Which Heavy Class is Better Suited for WvW?

If you absolutely want to use a GS:

On zergs:
– Guardian has a good AoE pull with the GS, that (with tanky build) can make it usefull to get some of the frontline enemies to you and your friends to finish.
– Warrior with GS is more mobile and with higher dps. Its great to finish off low/downed oponents and chase runners.

But you should see what:
– best fits your aesthetical/playstile needs
– best fits your group/guild needs

In the end, depends a lot on what you plan to do (run solo, small groups, zerg, etc) and who are you going with.

All in all they are both good in WvW

Where do you farm your gold?

I have a nice little plot of land in the farms located in the Gendarran Fields were I plant my gold seeds and then harvest the gold from the crops once they’ve matured. Takes a lot of hard work and dedication but it’s worth it in the end.

I think Orr is much fertile soil for gold farming. Must be all that organic matter and deep-sea nutrients brought by the last uprising…
CoF also gives good harvests, maybe the heat helps those nice gold seed grow more shinny!

PvE Rifle Warrior Build Final Tweaks

I’ve been running a rifle warrior on wvw (and sometimes dungeons for the extra xp, gold and gear) for a while and here are my opinions on this:

With crack shot and bow aoe field you get a lot of crit hits, and with Furious this gets your adrenaline pool to fill up almost instantly. Going for Quick Bursts is the best option.

Banner of discipline is great to get that 10% crit dmg buff, and you can pick up the banner for a fury and swiftness buff (and a little sprint skill). Also, the banner can be used to get 2 blast combos (on summon and banner #5) on your bow combo field for area might.

As I run asura, I use the racial skill to get a poison field, this gives you some good poison combo projectiles for a bit of extra cond dmg and healing debuff.

crit food is your best friend…

I have to disagree a bit about the “Elementalist only have one viable build” stuff.
There are many variations (more dmg, more defense) of that build, there are some other condition/bunker builds using signets and the staff glass cannon.

What I think its the “problem” here is that Daphoenix and some other users have done such a good job explaining that one build and the weapon set and strategies that it requires/work better with, that most of new eles go for that and dont even bother to look further. Its a great build, its fun and can be very good, but its not “the only viable build”.

You can argue, maybe, that its the “most viable build” we have, but not the only.

Great to know the staff is increasing and that new stuff (with more testing and polishing) is comming to the game.

To all the haters… Take a chill-pill, go do some sPvP or PvE if you are so mad with WvW, the game has a lot to offer… Make an alt or w/e

If you dont like any of it, take a break untill march or july, there is nothing wrong with it, its not like we pay a monthly-fee.

Last time I played a ranger you could unsummon the pet, having no pet active at all…
Did they change that? Or people are complaining about the pet just to have something to complain about?

This is why most JQ’s commanders have a good following and are respected by the community. PuG’s will always be a factor in WvW. how you choose to treat them and interact with them can mean the difference between winning and losing. Many people are willing to learn, our commanders are willing to teach.

I’ve never been in any other server, so Idk about other commanders, but this is very much true. I’ve had a lot of fun with nearly every commander in JQ.

Great fights last night (midle east time) in SoS and SoR Bl.
No queues on any Bl and about 5min only to EB.
It was a lot of fun and some good 5 lvls on the way!

I play on JQ and when I get on wvw sat/sun it always seems to be outnumbered. And its not just raw numbers, its guilds and organization, lack of commanders, etc. Seems weekends WvW on JQ are more of casuals and pugs. At least its my impression

During the week there is always more commanders around and seems to me the fights are more even.

But then again, I"m living in Saudi Arabia at the moment, so weekend here is on thursday/friday, and thats when I have more than a couple hours to play.
Maybe what SoS and SoR need is more arabic coverage? =]

Anyway… Great fights so far… looking forward to get my toon to lvl 80 and beeing able to do real dmg to more than 1 person at a time! heheheh

tl/dr: Make AoE and cleave skills affect more targets but deal less dmg to each target for each extra target it hits.

Here are some suggestions/thoughts to AoE/cleave dmg skills.
The text is a bit raw, as there is a lot to think about when calculating how much dmg something should put out, and of course each skill has a particularity (requirements of activation, channeling, self cc, fields, etc) that should also be taken into account. But I think some overall aspects of AoE/Cleave attacks should be thought for the upcomming changes.

Also I’m writing this without knowing what exactly Anet is doing, so I just want to give a bit of thought to maybe help them in what (I belive) might be a good direction.
Construtive comments are welcome…

First, I think we all agree that an AoE skill should have less single-target dmg than a single-target skill on small fights (3 targets ?). This is without considering the other costs/benefits of each particular skill. So a simple aoe burst should do (on a single target) about 1/3 of the dmg of a ST simple burst skill. In this way, against 1-2 opponents its better to burst them individualy while with more than 3 oponents its better to aoe. Again, this is not considering other costs/effects by each ability, enemy distribution, etc.

Second, dmg/effect ratio – The bigger the area, the smaller the dmg per target. If you have a big area AoE it should, potentialy, do less dmg than a small area AoE. This should consider only the base skill area, not the one increased by traits.

Third, dmg/number of enemies affected – This is one of the main things. There should not be a limit on how many targets are hit, but the dmg on each target could be reduced the more targets are hit by it (including evades/blocks). This way, the more people inside an AoE area, the more overall dmg is done, but the less dmg is done to each target, balancing the usefullness of combined AoEs (you can actually hit everything inside) with its power (you cant wipe a whole zerg with a couple AoEs as a glass-cannon). The ratio of how the dmg scales with the number of hits its the main balance thing to achieve and should not be linear (doing only a tickle against a big wvw zerg) more like a 1/x curve.

Considering this it would be a scenario where you have to think if its better to use a single target skill to take foes one by one, use small AoE or big AoE. The bigger the effect the lower the dmg (per target), but more overall dmg spread out.

With cleaving dmg, a smiliar approach could be done, where the first target (the first hit or the target beeing focused on) gets the full dmg of the skill while others on the reach of the cleave get dmg reduced for each extra target.

With piercing attacks, similar, the full dmg goes to the first one in line hit and decrease dmg for each next one in the line of fire.

Splash attacks could be similar, but with full dmg on the impact target (the one beeing focused) and reduced dmg based on distance from the impact.

Just a bit food for thought for those working on the changes.

Jokes aside, great Idea!

I’d also add some small scale skirmishes for solo/small group,
something like the capture of road-guards and supply trains in WvW.

Also, add supply lines running through the area, that players need to protect against small undead commando groups attacking behind the front lines.

What apps are there so far that are usefull?

I use the GW2 field guide to quick check important things on an area or to find some missing POI for area completion.
Also good to check foods to use at each lvl…

I tried some cooking guides and such things but didnt like it.

Some good apps would be:
WvW scores
sPvP watchmode (how nice would be to watch some old or live spvp matchs)
Guild management (check how is guild research, change MotD, etc)
Black Lion App (Check market trends, your listings, etc, maybe eve sell from your bank!)

Try S/F bunker/condition signet/aura build. Its much harder to master than d/d but has HUGE bunker potential.

I use a mouse and nostromo.
Most comands in nostromo, keep the mouse to turn/jump/dodge
Siting on the couch with one in each side feels great….

Powerful Banners...not so powerful

I love my precision banner. It gives me crit dmg, crit chance and even a small mobility (swiftsness + dash).

My only problem is when someone steals it.
It really drives me nuts when I find a good spot to sniper the field, put my banner there and someone takes it away and goes running off with my crit dmg bonus.

Wish you could get your minipet to carry the banner for you. It would look great on my quaggan.

I use diferent key-settings for different classes/combos too.
For this I use the Razer Nostromo gamepad. It can save diferent key-setups (I think up to 12 or so). I recomend it.

With just the game I have no idea if its possible.

Make mounts work a bit like siege golens.

they have (maximun) +25% movement speed, replace the skills of the player (new skills based on mount type and class/wep, like the snowball-pvp weps), can be killed and used by other players when left around (owner can take others out of it and use again, like siege weps). Would give a nice variation to everyone, but not be “needed” as transport or anything. (Waypoints still the fastest way to get around). They should be also hard to turn around, making it bad for interiors.

And keep vanity mounts ( SB-fancy stuff) as city-clothing as they are now.

Might as well throw Banner of Discipline for another 10% crit damage.

That…

Running riffle warrior full bersek glass-canon build and getting multiple 12k+ dmg popping in a single well lined killshot against the zerg is funny. (Much better than backstab!)

And I’m not sure, but I feel that taking 10pts out of discipline and geting empower (bonus dmg per buff) is a good trade-off if you keep might+fury+swiftness all the time.
Still gotta test if the banner counts as a buff and other things…

If they ever implement mounts, I hope they:
- Make them no faster than swifteness, so its not mandatory for chasing people or to get away.
- Make it like environmental weapons (changing your skills), or even better, like the wintersday snowball-arena, where you get skills based on your mount/profession (no thiefs stealthing with mounts!!)
- Make it a bit like siege golens, where you get a mount and it stays there (not poping out of your inventory every time you need) and can be killed. (You should take good care of your pets!)

It creates a portal based on attunement, and gives those that go on it an aura based on the portal type.
Portal only usable by 5 travels – auras not stacking duration.

Whenever I have a wep with sigil of geomancy on me and cast a conjure weapon, the sigil fires off but I only get the weapon on the floor, none at my hands.

Anybody else can confirm this?

One way to keep the combo viability, but increase reaction time window would be to split backstab on a chain attack.

Shank-shiv-eviscerate
First attack does about 1/3 backstab dmg and inflict cripple (if this crits, next attack crits)
2nd attack does about 1/2 backstab dmg and drain endurance (if this attack crits, next attachk crits)
3rd attack does about 2/3 backsab dmg and bleeds
The dmg of all attacks is positional like BS

This would increase the dmg, add some other benefits on the attack, but greatly increase the reaction time an KT of the combo.

It would still be a great combo, and with about 3secs to complete it fully it would make a good chain for the duration of the revealed debuf.

Making sure the 2nd and 3rd attack crit if the first attack crit is necessary to not make the GM trait in critical strikes useless
