Q6 : would you like 50 thieves like him on an borderland vs enemy zergs ?
How will you respond?

50 thieves vs 50 warriors… or d/d eles.. or ( insert here ).

Id take the 50 warriors TBH.

I’d say 50 eles. They are the current most op class. They did receive an sPvP nerf, but they should still be mostly intact in WvW.

50 warriors would destroy the 50 thiefs… perma AoE stun! how insane would that thing be… there are a few videos of just a few hammer warriors breaking zergs…
you can even add some diversity… get like 10 hammer warriors for cc, 10 riffle warriors for some 1shoting, and 30 double axe warriors for the aoe destruction… Imagine the buffs going on! the dmg! the CC!! that would be crazy…

I have self crafted yellow MF set that goes as (all rare):
– Explorer Armor set: 6×3% MF
with 3 runes of pirate: 20% MF
3 opal orbs: 3×3% MF
– Wayfarer acessory set with opal orbs: 6×6% MF
- Explorer weapons with opal orbs: 2×6% MF
- Raspberry-Peach bars or other (depends on mats I get): 30% (?) MF
Total is around 120% MF with some extra guild buff that Im not sure, or ocasional banner.

I use this only for open world events, as its too much of a burden in dungeons.
You can feel the difference. I mostly only get blues from trash… most of the times is green and yellows…

The best part is to take it off.
When you get the real power of your main set it just feels soooooo nice…

I’ve been using the yellow MF set as it was relatively cheap to make, but I have been considering to make an exotic one… wondering if the increase in atributes is worth it, since MF wont change…

There was a certain ‘adjustment’ to the game where it holds down your right click, and fixes your cursor just above your avatar’s head.

It made GW2 handle like a true action MMO as it should’ve been. But Anet took action against that reddit post. I saw the vid. It was just a simple tweak with autohotkey.

I guess Anet wants us to play it our way, their way.

Many people including myself have been requesting this as a build-in option.

The Koreans and Chinese pretty much have it spot on as to how the action genre should be played. Titles like Dragonnest, C9, Blade and Soul. But the lack of open world content entirely prevents it from being a serious player. And those are F2P.

That minor tweak is what would push GW2’s fight experience through the roof. And even better an option to switch it off changing your experience entirely. It’s a gold nugget in the rut.

This would be very nice, if ranged combat worked without a target…
I always shoot on my foot if I dont pick some target…

Better outmanned buffs. LOL ^^

I think the current outmanned buff was designed to bring more people to the map without offering them an advantage on stats.

The buffs it gives shows that the idea was more to be like “hey, no one is on that map, if I go there I can get more coin/karma/loot!”.

Many people suggest a different buff, giving raw stat increases to those with smaller numbers. Although I agree that the current one is not really bringing people to the maps to fight back (sometimes brings lowbies to the map to get some extra xp), I dont think just changing to raw stats would make it better.
What you would mostly likely have is some people looking for outmanned buff to improve their builds to extremes… outmanned shatter/confusion Mes? outmanned BS thief? outmanned hammer warrior?

I think the breaking event is more on the right direction. Some events with free siege, free supply, some protection, etc. What it needs is a bit of work to be more customizable by who is starting it, and some different events…

Stop the undercutting -_-

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: lLobo.7960

lLobo.7960

I offer some insight as to why you occasionally see large undercuts:

One tactic I use from time to time in lower volume markets is to “burn the market”.

When a given item cycle’s profit margin grows too small, and I decide that it is no longer worth the time to work with these items, I will calculate my break-even point.

I’ll then accumulate a mass of the item(s) and list large amounts (relative to the estimated supply) of the item at the break-even point for several days. This is often a very large undercut, as I’m not interested in the profit so much as making sure no one else profits.

What this does is ensure anyone that undercuts me is doing so at a loss, and anyone who tries to sell at a profit will have their items stuck. I will be breaking more or less even.

What do I have to gain from this? The more people I drive away from this market, the better it becomes for me. The entire reason the margin shrinks is others try to profit, raising the demands for the mats/forge requisites/etc. The vigilant market watchers will simply mark their spreadsheets and just keep an eye out. I can do nothing about that. The majority will turn to other markets.

With this, I’m occasionally able to restore higher profitability to certain market lines i’m interested in, once enough people have given up and turned elsewhere.

Certain requirements are:
- Relatively unknown crafting / forging line.
- Medium to low trade volume. The high volume items tend to already swing to their natural equilibrium.

These items are almost exclusively in the middle tier, and are almost always equipment.
Popular things like ectoplasms, crafting materials and such have no way of being suppressed in this way.

So you are the one selling mid-lvl yellow gear for half price… hummm

Counter Stealth

First, such skills would basically only be usefull on WvW. Or are skelks worth all that traiting/util slots?

Second, as said above, it would be great umbalanced to have all clases able to counter one class “unique mechanic” (yea, engis and mes can also stealth, but you got the point)

With that in mind maybe a option is more in the Wv mechanics and the march update…
Maybe set mortars/catas to shoot gliter dust, an aoe that applies the revealed debuff to everything in the area (a bit like poison from trebs)
Set scout npcs to have a detection radius where they can attack (but not just reveal) stealthed players

Howver I am on a mission to figure out how I can do it.

I have the same lag problem here where I am, the way I found to counter it was to go d/p so I can land the stealthing combos. I still miss a lot of BS due to lag (players are not where they show on my side) but as you can still get in stealth without hitting anyone you have better chances to survive. You aer going to need more ini regen, so changing the traits in critical strikes for acrobatics (for the 4 ini/10sec) and using the ini regen signet might help. Get berserker gear on place of valk to rebuild the lost prec, since you get vit from trait points anyway…

Regarding consumables in WvW

I hope that after removing the consumables they implement some env. weapons on WvW. Boulders around quary, planks around lumbermill, etc..

Maybe hyleks can give you poison buff for 10min and so on…

The main problem with bundles seems to be how easy it is to spam it or to have a lot of people using in a group. If you have just a env. weapon, it takes time to pick up, cant be spammed or used by 10+ people at the same time, but still provides some tactical use and “fun”.

I run a similar setup, but with more tanky traits (0/15/30/25/0), with 4ini every 10secs (trait and sigil) plus ini on crits and stealth I can span P/W nearly non-stop.

I usually go in with inf-strike, steal (to get the stealth f1) spam pistol whip until I need a cond remove or stun break, use the return from inf-strike to remove burn/bleed/stun and go back in with another inf strike. I can usually stand toe-to-toe with any boss on CoF using this. I add a few dodges here and there to increase dmg and get might stacks too.

In cases where there are many adds I drop caldrops for the extra heal ticks (sig malice).

It was actually from the dead enemy player we just killed, and he started to smack talk in /p… I droped group after that just to recieve a lot of tells telling me to leave map and all the crap about hunting me down and so on…

I don’t want to refit my warrior with the rifle build because my own thief has 2 legendaries on him, but I think I’m going to start considering it.

Just do it… Its really funny on big fights (real zergs, not the spread out 10v10 that we see on the videos up here) and you dont need much gear to get big numbers… some yellow set is already going to give you a lot of fun… mix knights/zerkers and find a zerg to follow… You might even kill some perma-stealth thief that got in the way…

Try doing this with kill shot:

http://youtu.be/jHOpACoX4ic

Solo vs zerg, uninterrupted footage, kills 30+ by chaining backstabs and stealthed stomps without getting killed once – again, ALL of it while utterly surrounded by hostile players.

Thieves who compare kill shot builds with backstab builds have no clue how to play a thief properly.

The difference in actual gameplay viability and killing ability in any situation is night and day.

This can hardly be called a zerg…
Its impressive how most of the players stand still and dont use a single AoE or just autoattack around, knowing the thief is there.

BS Thief and KS Warrior are 2 glass canons builds with very good results in diferent scenarios.

BS Thief is good on 1v1, against solo or small group of roamers.
On (true) zergs or good groups you cant get a kill as downed players will be ressed to fast for you to down them (unless you have haste, but you dont have 6 utilities slots). Most of the true GC BS builds, get in, kill someone and get out for the next 45secs or risk to be dead.
Need to be aware of retaliation and aegis buffs

KS warrior is good on a zerg, against other zerg and sieges.
The more crowded the players are the more you are going to take down.
Can get the combo ready out of reach (wall, behind zerg, etc), down a line of players with KS and finish them with volley, no need to go there.
Extra kills if people crowd on the downed one to ress it.
Repeat every 5-8secs
Bonus group buffs.
Need to take care with reflection walls.

Both are hard to counter on their ideal scenarios but are mostly going all for the kill, if a few things go bad they are dead.
I personaly get more bags with the warrior, but I think its becouse T1 has more zergs than small skirmishes.

One detail I think most overlook.
Most of those videos of Thiefvs"Zerg" are not really glass-cannon thiefs. Mostly are balanced builds with 30 in shadow arts for the full use of stealth (like 30 water eles).
If they do that much dmg, the targets are probably upleveled and/or undergeared or full Glass Canons.
I think if stealth is changed to increase revealed debuff or even remove from combat, the number of pure GC thiefs will increase as the window for a kill will be only the first attack.

Excepting the fact that we can see said warrior, see the long cast time shots and dodge them or move out of range.

Again, except that Wv3 is a mostly group PvP scenario, and so, im my experience, no one pays attention to the tiny asura kneeling down at 1200 away.
In the XvX battles that I go with my rifle warrior I only get my killshots dodged by luck (target dodged something else right at the moment) and if thats the case, there is no loss in adrenaline and no full CD to wait for the next one.

Thief and Mesmer stealth duo vs keep.

in WvW

Posted by: lLobo.7960

lLobo.7960

I love it when thief players defend their profession with most ridiculous comparisons and use the term “learn 2 play”.

Stealth is utterly broken, especially in WvWvW. Stealth = unfun for all those who are not using it. WvWvW would be better with the stealth and teleportation mechanisms completely removed or reworked.

GW2 has game mechanisms similar to FPS game. Now imagine a FPS game, where there are several professions. One profession, let’s call it infiltrator, can become invisible when he wants and no enemy action can reveal him from invisibility. Even if infiltrator walks into a cloud of smoke or enters water or enemy makes him bleed like hell, infiltrator is still invisible. And enemy with a rifle cannot even target him. While he is invisible the rifle bullets just don’t hit him even if you guess his exact location. He also does huge damage, his attacks are blindingly fast and he can teleport as well, move 50% faster while being invisible. Then we have another profession, let’s call it soldier, who has better armor, higher health, but his high damage attacks are slowly telegraphed and very easily dodged. Would this game be balanced? Hell NO.

You can still hit players in stealth.
Your channeled skills still hit (provided LoS and range) even if you loose target
Thief stealth can be countered with blocks/aegis/reflects/retaliation and a series of other working game mechanics.
You can take a thief out of stealth most of the time, mesmers and engis do all the time…

All in all, you should “acquire better knowledge to improve your strategies when performing on the game”, since you dont like l2p

Who bursts more than a rogue using cnd and BS? I usually see a fully geared rogue hit me for 12-15k with those two alone with steal adding another 2.5-5k depending on crits. A kill shot does only about 12k to me and a shatter usually hits me for around 10-12k

A rifle warrior, traited for ir (as a bs thief is traited for it) can hit up to more than 20k kill shots from 1500 range every 5-8secs followed by a volley of 10-15k from 1200 range. And still have more health and armor than the GC BS thief. Ah, and pierce, so if someone is on the way they are dead too…
Ah, and as a channel skill, it takes people down even if they try to go on stealth/teleport.

12k kill shot is from some group buffed balanced warrior that got the riffle as a secondary weapon.

I have a riffle warrior, and on big battles its a lot of fun. And a lot of bags.
And it has much bigger burst and sustained dps than my thief. And have group buffs!
No, it doesnt have stealth, it has range, much better tool on big group fights and sieges in Wv3.
[edit] and as far as animation hints go…. on a group of 20 people fighting, no one pays attention on the tiny assura kneeling 1200 away.

If you are talking about PvE, then I think you need both.
There are moments where its better to melee and moments where is better to range.
Its like complaining that AoE is not as good as ST against single target bosses.

Each encounter has its tricks. I always bring different sets of melee and range weps to change according to the situation. Same goes for utilities.

I myself find melee mostly better against non-defiant mobs, as you can blind/daze/stun them so much. Difiant, depending on their attack mechanics you have to stay range or just time you melee burst against their own bursts.

Like someone said a while ago, you need to know yourself and know your opponent and then you can beat the kitten out of them… or something like that.

What's wrong with crafting

in Crafting

Posted by: lLobo.7960

lLobo.7960

Sry, but I have to disagree.

For work reasons I couldnt play the game on the first 3 months after release, so I only recently started lvling up my crafters (and seems I lost great opportunities with this). I had looked into crafting a lot during betas, but had no idea how the market was by now.

In beta I loved the craft system, as it was not too time consuming or grindy like other mmos.

Yes, at first I was thinking like you. Crafting would be pointless and not profitable. But I was wrong.
The guides in Saladon.net are a good source to check how much stuff you need to get to the next tier, but the prices are very much wrong.

The last crafter I’ve leveled was my tailor and from lvl ~100 to 400 I made 5g with it (thats not taking into account the stuff I did at 400).
You will need some upfront cash to start, but its nothing you cant get by a single set of exp (full paths) dungeon runs.

The thing you gotta understand is that you will need to study the market. You wont have a profit making anything you want. You might have to cover the costs of the earlier tier (blue itens) with the profit from later tier (green/yellows) and you will need to be patient with buy-orders and selling lists.

Also, the addition of karma jugs made it possible to have craft alts. I transfered all my jugs to crafting alts so they can get the recipes and mats they need.

If you have a constant supply of basic materials (main or alts) its even better!!

So crafting can be profitable, but not just by doing standart itens. Like many things in this game, to be actually good at it you need to put some extra though and effort on it. Or you can just use it to make your gear cheaper…

tl:dr: I used to think crafting was bad, after I started looking deeper into it, I found you can actually get profits if you think a bit harder and now I like crafting.

Another legendary topic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lLobo.7960

lLobo.7960

They do go for a legendary price on TP…

Jokes aside, I don’t mind people using coin to buy legendaries. If you want to spend that much on some skin, go for it. If you want to buy gems and make it into coin and spend more than 1k usd on a weapon skin, well… you should think of better ways to spend your money, but anyway…

Nothing against adding some epic quest to get the legendary or precursors also, maybe they will even do it in the future… But it will take a few days to have videos on youtube showing a easy(er) way to kill that mob, or do that encounter, or w/e. And then people will complain. Or its going to be really hard, and people will complain. Or it will be too grindy and people will complain…

I really dont plan going for one of those weapons. Just playing the game for now and having some fun with it… If I ever come around the amount of coin to get one and have nothing else to do with it… Maybe. But other than that, I’m just happy that I can still do any content without people demanding me to bring a legendary weapon or 2.

Its not a carrot on that stick, its just a cookie. Its tasty, for sure, but its no carrot.

What is a “fair fight”?

I think its fair that the server with the best organization and bigger population interested in going in wvw should win.

What are you going to do?
Block the other 2 servers from getting into WvW if there is no one from your server to defend your keeps?
Limit the number of players based on the numbers the other 2 servers can put in the field?

I dont think those are “fair” to the people that live in other timezones and still want to go in WvW and take some keeps.

If you take the map on a day, and come back the next day and its all taken from you. Take it back. If there was nothing else to take you would probably be here complaining that there is nothing to do anyway.

No, I don’t think the fights are balanced right now. But I don’t see a “fair” way to balance it. Unless players are willing to go and transfer from top servers to servers that are constantly loossing. But looking at this forums I think the trend would be the other way around.

Allowing “guesting” in loosing servers in WvW?
So then the zerg on t1 can go to t8 server raid the whole thing and leave?

Allow guilds to transfer from High tiers to low tiers for free/cheaper?
So big guilds help a server get to t1/2 just to leave him there to get smashed and go to another t8?

I really think people should stop just mindless complaining about how “unfair” WvW is and try to come up with better ways to improve it. But take in mind that there are other players out there, and be it the ones that are in a high rank server becouse they just want to win, or in a low tier one becouse they just want to roam and do small fights or PvDoor, they all have the right to play their game too.

No, its not pointless.

There are still people around the starter areas, even more now with the change to daily achievments.

Posted by: lLobo.7960

There are no racial stats.
You get some racial utility/heal/elite skills, but they are mostly fun/fluff stuff and hardly superior than what you get by class (due to efficacy or CD)…

With that in mind,

Assura are nice, they are small, get a retaliation buff and can summon golens. And you are all more ninja jumping around all the time.
Charr are nice with the ash-legion lore/story and all. Plus you get extra pistol, or a bazooca if you just want blow stuff with style.
Sylvary look awesome in the dark with the right collors, and the mushroom head looks like Samurai Jack’s hat. Nice fluff if you are going sword and dress in white robes.
Humans look cool, and you can get the noble/spy story arc that fits nice (My thief is a noble from lions arch, of a family of spies, he is also a jeweler and an active TP broker. I just love it)

1) Can’t stop the clones effectively. Most of the time its difficult to kill them due to culling/chasing down the real mesmer. I personally can’t drop 4-5k damage into the clones to get rid of them quickly, even if I could see them
2) Unless you are specifically looking for it in the mess of conditions that appear 4-7 at a time fighting in small group fights, you won’t really see it until after you’ve swung or used a utility.
3) It takes you out of the fight and turns you into a non-combatant. Once you have that many stacks of confusion and are out of cleansing you basically have to try to escape combat while avoiding direct damage from the d/d eles/thieves.
4) to say that a condition mesmer doesn’t have any other damage is pretty short sighted. Staff with Sword/Scepter/Focus/Torch puts out a lot of extra non-clone conditions/utility/support/damage.

As with most problems in wvw it comes down to culling. If I could see the mesmer clones rushing at me it would be excessively helpful. However having decoy/mirror image/dodge clone/mass invis/etc its really obnoxious. I was in the middle of an enemy zerg chasing down a giant norn mesmer when he popped mirror image with a dodge. The clones were there, however the 20+ enemies that were surrounding me immediately vanished. So…yea that was fun, but at least I kittening dodged the shatter combo!

If you are in group fights you need to act as a group. If the mesmer is focusing on you to apply confusion while the thief and d/d ele focus on you, they are doing a good coordinated job, where is your team while you are getting all the attention?
If you go on group fights and dont mind looking to your conditions then you are just btn-smashing and better have a guard or ele nearby on full heal/cleansing duty to keep you up.
Group fights are about knowing what is going on and how to better act as a group. I have lost count of how many people I’ve seen on WvW shoot themselfs dead on reflection/retaliation as they dont pay attention to anything but their own CD.

If the problem is culling, then why should confusion get nerfed? Asking for a nerf on something becouse something else is broken doesnt seem very balanced. Fix what is really broken.

D/D nerf?

Tell me some downsides to running dagger/dagger. Something I can take advantage of.

Very dependant on mobility and melee range, If you can keep range and chill/imo/cripple they cant do anything

Lot os survival comes from constant healing with sigil passive and this requires casting fast and non-stop. Constant stacking confusion is a big problem. Just dont burst stack as they can cleanse often.

As said by others, watch the att. dance.
– after water – burst
– during air – imob/cripple
– during fire – block/dodge
– during earth – interrupt/blind

No one told me that in years.

Its crazy OP.
We already have insane mobility and stealth utilities, this coupled with a weapon that criples, knockbacks, summon clones and pierce/burst? really?

So with this weapon, you can combo a steal-knockback-cripple-stealth-shadowstep away-pierce burst target…
yea.. no way.

I’m all for a rifle thief, but it has to give the thief no mobility and stealth (or invis/camuflage w/e you want to call it) something more balanced would be:
AA – slow RoF, range-dependant dmg
Stealth – High range-dependant dmg burst shot (4secs channel, not able to move) – maybe less dmg than killshot, with added bleed on crit and/or positional dmg/cond

  1. - weakness (cond) medium dmg shot (spammable cripple is way too op as criple stacks in duration)
  2. - small 2-3 sec burst, unable to move while channeling
  3. - some small explosive shot, or bleed/poison shot
  4. - quick daze/stun (no knockbacks to a class that already have a ton of teleports)

Looking for a new Laptop

Hi there.

I’m looking for a new laptop, as my current one is about 5 years old, with a broken fan and lagging a lot (4-8 fps on crowded lions arch and long time to load walls and floors)

I cannot go for a desktop, as I travel a lot to work and don’t even have a fixed address for the moment.

I’ve looked over some laptops and after considering paying more for a Razer Blade or going for a Asus G75VW-AS71, I decided to come over here to ask.

The Razer attrected me more, not only for the design, but for the extra batery duration (I could actually see a full movie during a trip) and the light weight and thin body (makes a difference when you need to carry it all the time on your back and still have some room for clothes).

The Asus is much cheaper but also double the weight and less batery life. But so much cheaper.

Also, it seems that nvidia is going to soon launch a new graphic board (GTX 680 ? ) and would be worth to wait a bit.
Same goes for the whole windows 8 and new touch-screen generation of laptops to come…

So, the question is,

Should I pay for a new laptop now (and what do you recomend) or wait a couple months for new hardware releases?

Get a riffle, keep superior range (dont stop running if they stealth) and use chain skills (#2, #3, #4, F1) before they go in stealth to get em even if you dont see. Get that knockback right and avoid C&D as much as you can to depleat their ini.

Its not easy, not a 100% win thing, but it can work if you make everything right.

When Chuck Norris enters a WvW map it all turns to green. (Chuck Norris is always green on WvW)

Chuck Norris wins all 1v1, 1v2, 1vX, but no one can see. Due to culling, Chuck Norris model is impossible to render, so everyone thinks its a GC Permastealth Thief and go cry on their foruns.
