The only unacceptable thing here really is the fact that you would blame ArenaNet for your own faults.
So, lets say that ever single part of the Living Story was group only would we still be having this discussion?
The living story have utilized more or less every single part of the PvE world.
Personal story, meta-events, events and now dungeon. It shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone at this point. Sure, you will have to do something that you might not like to see the end of the story, but keep in mind that people that want to group up have been more or less completely left out most of the game.
It is after all more or less impossible to find someone that want to join you in your personal story instances, most events don’t scale well for big group of people and so on.
So that I can play on my own when I want to, and I can play with others when I want to, in the same game. The majority of the time in GW2 you can even do that within the same content.
Playing a multiplayer game =/= wanting to cuddle up with everyone 24/7.
So.. having 8 (well 9 with the temporary dungeon here) means "cuddle up with everyone 24/7?
As for the whole game those 8/9 dungeons is about 5% of the whole game, so I don’t see how that would require cuddle up with everyone 24/7 tbh.
AC =/= part of personal story, it’s the story of Destiny’s Edge. My personal story can continue without me ever touching AC or any dungeon. But it can’t end without doing Arah story mode, which is a group activity. Why is personal story all of a sudden a group’s story? Also a lot of people face difficulty finding groups for certain dungeons, even though they are willing to play with groups. Isn’t it preventing them from playing a certain content they wish to play? If there was an option to play them solo, with scaling, they’d atleast be able to do it when they’re not able to find a group.
You missed my point.
I simple stated why it would be more or less impossible to scale it down to solo, since it requires team-work.
You seemed to imply that you would want it to scale in group-size, but if it does REQUIRE team-work scaling it will be impossible. That was what I was trying to say.
No, I am denying that dungeons are always such an awesome experience for everyone and that everything is oh so awesome as a group. What would it take away from you if the dungeon would scale down so it could be soloed? Or is it, that most people would run solo if they are not forced.
I do not mind 5 people dungeons in a game, but I am very disappointed it is supposed to be the end of the living story, because that is cutting me off from that experience.
Based on the description of the dungeon it actually seems like you need more people since teamwork is REQUIRED (much like how it is impossible to do Ghost Eater in AC on your own after the patch), so how would you do that solo?
Ah, sorry, I think you misread me. I’m wondering if any of the guild missions locked behind bounties actually require large amounts of guild members; things like Rush, Trek and Puzzle.
I suspect they don’t.
The bounty can be done quite easily with around 10 people (one group per target on tier 1).
Trek can probably be done with less if you use Dulfy to find the points.
Rush will require more than bounty I would say, since they are quite long and require 15 completions (you can complete it several times with the same character, but you only have 30 minutes) and often requires some people escorting the runners.
The rest our guild haven’t unlocked yet so can’t say how many they would require.
LFG – F&F, speedrun, 80+ only, no noobs – when this appears for the first time, tell me how much people cooperate and how awesomely they communicate.
So because a small group of people are elitists and don’t do stuff for the sake of doing it but only for rewards they should remove all grouping? Or am I misunderstanding you?
We already see these kind of LFGs for the other dungeons, and yet it is still very possible to get a normal laid back group as well. Why would this be any different?
The blog has been lost sadly.
I am however quite sure that what they did refer to was the skill challenges.
It is temporary, we do not know for how long it will stay, but it will get removed when Flame and Frost is over.
So you are simply assuming/demanding/wanting to be able to do every single thing in a MMO on your own, without ever having to talk or cooperate with other people?
Why would you even play a MMO in that case?
No, there were alternatives, like a WORLD GROUP EVENT!
This is the kind of ‘multiplayer’ activity many of us who hate instances do enjoy, it doesn’t require’ grouping up’ with jerks who abuse you if you make a mistake, but it does create exciting content that clearly isn’t possible to do as a soloable activity.
So, making the whole fight completely pointless because it goes down without any threat at all of losing it? I don’t know if you have actually done the other world events, but none of those are actually showing anything good.
People simply pop up, hit the boss, get the loot and then WP to the next one.
Completely worthless way to tell a story unless it is a One-time event.
So you’ve created an instance that only highly skilled hardcore instance dwellers can complete.
So you’ve seen the large number of players, like me, who are upset we can’t finish the Personal Story because it’s a forced-group event and gone entirely in the direction of making Living Story even MORE elite.
Really? Is that what you mean, because that’s what you just said?
Next time you add new content kitten say up-front if it’s going to need forced-grouping to complete, so those of use who don’t want to endure PUGs don’t get our hopes up.
Alright then. I’ll say it right now:
Guild Wars 2 is a MMO. Assuming you will be able to solo every single thing they add is extremely naive and will most likely never be the case.
So, now you can skip everything for the chance that there will be group content is very high.
Where? I just checked online, and didn’t find any recipes for guns and bows. It was only melee -shrug- if there is then kitten, point me in the direction!
You are looking at Weaponsmith, Pistols, Rifles and Bows are made by Huntsman

Is it 100% confirmed limited time?
Or will the story part be limited, dungeon to stay forever?
The dungeon itself will be available for a limited amount of time, as it is tied to the ongoing story. The possibility of revisiting the content is not out of the question, however. It just becomes a matter of determining where and when it makes sense to do so.
Errm…it wouldn’t surprise me if ascended weapons and/or armour were the rewards in the new dungeon.
We all know ascended weapons/armour are coming at some point this year…
Probably cost tokens (another additional currency), you will need to run dungeon so many times till you have enough tokens…viola new ascended greatsword…
It makes sense with the storyline too, with the dredge/molten legion guys having access to, ‘new’ technology…
It would be extremely stupid though. Since the dungeon is limited time only.
They can’t really lock people out from getting the BiS things by completely removing the means of getting it.
From MMORPG.COM
“The dungeon is also geared towards replayability. There are a variety of different enemies that will change randomly and subtly. There are differences in the groups you’ll face, and even in the voiceover dialog within the dungeon itself to make sure it’s not exactly the same time and again. There are also, of course, lots of unique rewards to the Molten Weapons Facility dungeon. As the story itself progresses through the end of April and into May, players will notices that the entrances to the dungeon itself will change (to signify that players are storming in and destroying these facilities). When the story comes to its crescendo, the final location of the dungeon and its entrance for repeated play will be set.”
I don’t see the dungeon being temporary. Until ANet says otherwise, that’s going to be my assumption.
They have already confirmed that it will get removed when Flame and Frost is over.

I didn’t say they don’t earn a load of cash, they most likely do but ArenaNet/NcSoft and their community would benefit more if they sold them directly for gems.
RNG works for in-game loot from npcs and chests, not from in the gem store, not if you want to make a good deal.
How do you know that they would benefit more from selling them directly?
There are already people spending loads of $ on the chests, most likely way more money than they would have gained from selling the items directly.
Rather hard to discuss without any real numbers though, but since ArenaNet actually have these numbers I will assume that they know what they are doing.
How would they earn less money? i bet their sales would increase by a 1000 times or more.
There’s very few who want to risk real cash on RNG when you might not even get a ticket for a weapon skin.
The fact that they keep adding limited time things to the chests would prove otherwise though.
If they didn’t earn loads of money from it, why would they keep doing it instead of selling the skins outright?
Aw, that is a shame.
Thanks for clarifying.
The Molten Weapon Facility dungeon will be available as soon as the Flame and Frost: Retribution release is live.
You will not need to have done any living story content to enter the dungeon, but if you want the achievement for completing it, you will need to finish the Hero’s Aid achievement (complete Rox and Braham’s stories) first.
I think you are misunderstanding the question. We want to know if it will be permanent or if it will go away when Flame and Frost is over?
I don’t mind the temporary content, but when it comes at the exclusion of permanent content then it is a problem.
Flame & Frost is not permanent content though.
I’m sure that Massively’s article is probably right, since it is a Living Story piece, which means it won’t stay around permanently (which I kinda hate). IIRC they’ve said that any LS content is going to be one time only, which sucks for future players. And if thats true, they need to make it available ASAP so that the most number of players get a chance to play it.
It is actually because it is from Massively’s article that I am questioning it. It wouldn’t be the first time Massively posted incorrect information.
Seriously A-net – I set all the graphics settings during WvWvW to the lowest possible, and STILL the amount of Lag you get in big Zerg fights, or anything over 10 players or so, is just ridiculous.
Based on this part of your statement you clearly need a better computer.
I thought you mean The Hatchery and that norny place whatever its called.
I solo’d them both. Next time you need to be more specific.
The thread is about Flame and Frost ENDING with a 5-man instance.
Flame and Frost did NOT end with the patch in March.
I read the dungeon will be available for a limited time only :/
Indeed, some sources says that it will be limited time only, while others do not. So until we have a confirmation from ArenaNet we don’t really know ^^
Indeed, I am wondering about this aswell.
Guru says nothing about it being limited-timed while Massively does.
A official response would be awesome.
While custom Arenas and such sounds awesome, this what I quoted might be it’s downfall.
It is quite interesting that people seems to react on that since we have known more or less since they mentioned Custom Arenas the first time that it WOULD cost to rent them.
The instance can be solo’d. You get boosted to lvl 80 and its pretty easy. I solo’d it with lvl 80 ranger, thief, warrior and lvl 60 elementalist.
Im sure I could solo it with my lvl 52 engineer.
Oh, so you managed to solo something that have not yet been released?
I guess now we know why there were no dungeon updates in the last patch.
It is not the dungeon-team working on this one though.
It does indeed sound quite awesome.
What I do wonder however is if this will be permanent or get removed when F&F is over?
Based on the guru-info there is nothing about it being removed, but Massively state that it is time-limited.
have none of you guys or gals looked around ? there has been some info, and it seems big, gw2 guru has most of the details with a preview.
Spvp, WvW, PvE
New Dungeon
New Gear
New Flame and frost with new gear
New Gem store stuff (Rox’s quiver included)
New Guild Missions addedNew WvW toys
some more WvW Changes
Arrow cart completely updated
Custom Arena’s (BETA)just go searh abit.
Maybe you should check the time when the posts where made?
All posts in this thread was made BEFORE that information was posted on those other sites
Hmm, will this dungeon be time-limited or permanent?
Guru says nothing about time-limited, massively say that it will be time-limited.
Any word from ArenaNet which one it is? ^^
Guru aswell.
PvP: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/82600-details-on-upcoming-custom-arenas-spectator-mode/
Looks nice.
You can’t (yet)
Brahams story is over for now (will come more in the patch coming April 30th)
Deja vu
One of the main problems with this would be all the angry reports made that would waste resources.
Someone gets owned by another player and he decides to report him for cheating. That would require ArenaNet to waste resources on investigating someone that have done nothing wrong.
I am also really disappointing on this change because mainly I play WvW from UK with my friends on NA.
But not only that, all this means the is that WvW QUEUE will be be much longer…… Resetting the time for the West Coast doesn’t guarantee that they will be able to play. All it does is reduced your chance of getting in after reset as everyone will be fighting to get in.
Yes i know life is not fair but look at everything before your make your changes..
So, how would you suggest they made it fair? There will ALWAYS be people that will get negatively effected, no matter what they do. (That is of course unless they make the reset personal for every single player in the game, and that would never work)
Why would you buy 131 chests? that’s alot of money. Why can’t they sell tickets in the gem store for a given amount of gems and that’s it.
Because they would earn less money that way?
That was because bots where escorting the dollys, but why would a bot need Wxp?
Not only bots.
Quite a few regular players did it as well, since it was a rather easy and somewhat risk-free way to get loads of karma, xp and money.
Extremely unlikely that we will get Guild Halls, especially since the last we heard about that was that they are not actively working on them.
I am expecting the end of the Flame & Frost storyline and the introduction of our nemesis and a teaser for the upcoming Living Story branch.
They changed the rewards for escorting Dolyaks about a month or so after release, simply because people ignored most of the other things and just escorted dollys to get nice rewards.
You do know that there already are crafts that can make Bows, Pistols and Rifles right?
I am rather sure they never announced plans like that (they did have plans for a mobile application of some sorts but don’t think they ever specified what it would include) but the plans for the mobile application is most likely on ice for now.
Offline (with the true meaning of the word) would never work for this btw, since you need to connect to the servers in order to do the stuff listed ^^
Actually, one of my disappointments in WvW is that it feels so “detached” from the rest of the game. I mean, for instance, what does owning a castle have anything to do with the Elder Dragons? There’s 0 connection to it all. Why are servers even fighting? There’s no purpose, it’s there for the sake of having that particular RvR mechanic. It would be a lot better if they connect WvW to a certain lore in the game and work new contents based off that. There should be a connection or even story behind each tower or keep or anything that would make players feel that they are part of the lore still. Right now, WvW does feel a separate game already…and I think it’s one of its flaws at the moment. But I feel ANET will do something about it in the future, it’s an obvious opportunity that they can improve on later on.
As far as I understand it the Mist Wars are simply training for the hardships to come (fights against the Dragons) and the reason they can’t effect it is that most (all?) Elder Dragons can’t enter the Mists.
Because 180 Precision would increase your critical chance by about 8% and that is quite a bit.
I found the post and edited my original statement. It was SIX, that is 6, days ago. An eternity for a fruit fly and a mere instant in the world of software development.
We do not know the amount of people involved in the server team, but lets say it is 10 people, just to have a number.
If those 10 people focused everything on this issue it is fully possible to solve it within that time. It was about 32 hours (if they work 8 hours a day and don’t work on weekends) and in that time 10 people can come up with and test quite a few things.
Thanks for this.
Now just a week after the decision to change everyone’s reset time a solution has been found.
I was going to pull a Jon Stewart. You know how he loves to take old video of some <fill in the blank> and play it against the most recent comments by same dumdum in which the 2 vidz are completely diametrically opposed.
I can not do that because the post in question has been deleted. Now if I am incorrect and am my memory is false I apologize but I distinctly recall a post whose gist was as follows:
DevonCarver:
I talked to our server guys and they said it can not be done. The take-away from this is . . . measure twice, cut once!
It is however still fully possible that it was entirely correct at the time Devon made that post (it was quite some time ago after all), and that they did manage to find a solution for it just a day or two ago.
Instead of splitting the server times… I’m still wondering why the day of week wasn’t changed… Why not move to a Saturday where all of us can get on early? No matter what part of the world you live in. It would be Sunday for some and Saturday for the rest… changing times isn’t solving the issue… please just change the day.
So.. those that can only play on weekend should lost half (or more) of their WvW time then?
And the ArenaNet team should be forced to work every single Saturday?
true but the important time is the 5-7 hours after rest not just rest
But apparently that was not possible either (based on the thread started after they changed the reset timers) since there would be hour-long queues if you weren’t there the second reset happened.
they could have changed it back to the old reset time for NA
And yet with that time there were people complaining about having to rush home from work in order to make it in time for reset, so clearly that wasn’t good for everyone either.
I wonder if ArenaNet are every going to make a change where people will not complain about something..
