Rather unlikely, seeing as the event itself is not the same (lore-wise). Scarlet is dead. Lion’s Arch is destroyed.

The main reason for this release (in-lore) is that they want to help (in the case of the Zephyrites) rebuild Lion’s Arch and motivate (in the case of the Gauntlet) them.

There might be NPCs talking a bit about it (the biconics seems to be present in this patch), but other than that it would most likely simple be as for us when the game was released and all those stuff had already happened (foefire, dragonbrand, rising of Orr and so on).

I’m still confused as to why the one pick deserves to get it’s own special drops. The others don’t get anything, so this one is pretty much just a better version of the other infinite use picks.

And the reaction to it is most likely why none of the others did get anything special.
ArenaNet did a test run to see how it was received. People didn’t like it, so they didn’t add it to the other new tools.

Hello Fellow GW2 players

I was part of the beta testing, and i believed that despite a few shortcomings this mmo had great potential. However it has not changed since, and after a week of playing with friends, i could clearly see that this game did not quite live up to the hype. Now i am not sure what it’s missing (i am no amazing game developer), but i think many of us here in this thread can agree that GW2 is missing something.

I get that you don’t like the game, but why do people like you have to blatantly lie when you complain about the game?
People would take you much more seriously if you actually grounded your statements in actual facts rather than just lying in order to make things appear worse than they are.

Actually, their silence is 100% the result of them not being able to follow through on what they tell us … not the fact that we are foolish enough to believe what they tell us and are unhappy when we find out how foolish we were. The ONLY reason for not telling your customers what you have planned, either in the form of new content or fixes for old content, is the tacit acknowledgement that you aren’t proficient enough to properly scope the task or perform it (assuming competition isn’t the issue, which in this case it isn’t). There’s too much to gain marketing-wise by being visibly responsive if you actually are confident you can make things happen.

That is one way to see it of course.
Another one would be that they are actually changing things if they find out it wouldn’t work or if they find something that would work better.
But every single time they have announced something and don’t release it exactly as it was (due to those things coming up) or when it was supposed to be released (again due to those things) these forums explodes shouting about being lied to and so on.

If the people on these forums would grow up a bit and accept the fact that things can change without shouting about being lied to, I am sure ArenaNet would start being more open about it again.

- new legendaries weapons/ new legendary trinket
- precursor crafting?

They didn’t promise us that.
They had PLANS to add that last year, but quite long before last year was over they made it very clear that those plans would most likely be postponed.

And since then we have also been told that they have been postponed while they work on the new reward system.

But I suppose selective reading makes for a better complaint?

Yes yes gw2 is living but is it truly “Living”, I wondered why cant the mobs be like AI mobs where they can strategize; for example if there is 2 eles and 2 guards the AI mobs would recognise the eles as weaker and fokus on them or mybe fokus on the person with the lowest gear. Just basicly making the mobs smarter for a more challenging pve.

Actually they already do.
They do have an AI that does take several factors into consideration, including max health, current health, damage, toughness and armor.

I remember back during GW2s beta. Then we had more or less exactly the same posts on other forums but with GW2 instead of WildStar.

And when the next big MMO (most likely EverQuest Next) gets into open beta we will see the same on the Wildstar forums and so on.

The point of this thread actually is that it would be great if A-Net would have filled the gap until China is ready with something exiting and rediscovering a little part of the map.
It just got out of control when these Sci-Fi teens told me the Dwarfs never left Shiverpeaks and how it is absolutely impossible to have living Dwarfs as NPC’s even having the Great Dwarf still around and how they don’t belong into a blade n’ plate fantasy game while Borgs and Star Ships do

But the thing is we are using actual CONFIRMED INFORMATION to base our comments on. You simply assume everything that was said about them during GW1 and GW2 (and between) is incorrect, just because it would fit your world better.

With the same logic we can also start to claim that the Gods are actually Quaggan and the Elder Dragons are their pets and everything we do in the game is actually a story being told at a Hylek school.

Pie in the sky sure tastes great, doesn’kitten The chances of attaining perfect balance in any MMO is virtually nil. And those chances are even smaller for Guild Wars 2, considering how little priority the developers have placed on balance.

Please re-read what I wrote.
I wrote nothing at all about perfect balance, since I am fully aware that such thing doesn’t exist.
What I did write was as balanced as possible, which is better than what it currently is.

I wasn’t the one counting them as new content. The person I discussed with was and I just used the same logic, since he/she/it wanted to use that logic at only part of the things added.

Some Mod will erase this, because it’s criticism and ANet can’t handle criticism.

I effin love GW2, my only gripe with it comes in content. I love how the game works, but the existing classes keep getting “Rebalances” but nothing added to them. we NEED new weapons, new attacks, new traits…. and more. We also NEED new classes in general. Its been almost two years now…. come on. The actual game though? most of us love it. The main reason people complain so much is that this game has the POTENTIAL to be the best MMO ever. period.

You are aware that adding new weapons and such would require even more rebalancing, right?
It is always better to get them as balanced as possible before adding more variables.

We where talking about account-bound vs character-bound. Not how you had to earn them. Yeah original planned way to earn them was pretty bad and that changed after a storm-load of negative feedback.

Account-bound dyes is worse then character-bound dyes?

The original system (finding seed, put seed in home-instance, wait for 24h or pay for gem-store item for instant growth) was worse than the system we had at release yes.
The release system made it fully possible to get every single dye without every spending any real money in a few weeks, while the BWE1 system would make that impossible, seeing as each dye took 24h or costed gems.

While nobody can say for sure it came from the marketing team (as they don’t tell that) it came right after they hired a new monetize person coming from a game infamous for it’s cash-shop approach. Whenever that link get’s posted the thread tents to get closed with some bad excuse so if you like to see the source google for “nexon buys arenanet monetize dyes” then it should end up pretty high.

No it didn’t.
Said person was hired March 2012.
The change to dyes were made in June 8th 2012.

That is 3 months. Not “right after”.
And people still seems to completely ignore the fact that the original system was even worse and was pushing you way more to the gem-store than the release version ever did.

One poster some time ago said something like this in another thread: “GW2 in its pre-release plans had dyes as account bound. Then, an opinion came, from a marketing division, to make them character bound.”

I suppose the same poster “forgot” to mention the fact that those account-bound dyes were much worse than the character bound system we had at release, right?

Cantha could happen. Remember that the emperor conquered the Luxons and the Kurzicks So it doesnt have to be a blend of cultures anymore. Also didnt they send most of the devs to the asia launch? Good time to go culture sniffing i say. You dont need to send a lot of people overseas for a launch just some important ones normally. And they did record music from a far away country. That could be chineese music. Chineese culture has a rich mythology to draw from. So you could make a Cantha that the asian playerbase doesnt find offensive. Besides they could always bounce ideas of the chineese distributor of what goes and doesnt go

It had nothing to do with the Kurzick and Luxons but rather the whole culture of Cantha, which takes inspiration from several asian cultures.

The Kurzick and Luxon weren’t really that asian to begin with.
Kurzick were basically Germans and Luxons were Greek.

There are a grand total of 2 instabilities that are “gear gating” (the same was already there in the form of unavoidable Jade Maw btw, but I suppose we ignore that). One at lvl 40 and the other at lvl 50.

Which still means a grand total of NINE instabilities that should be counted as new content (by your logic) seeing as every single one from lvl 31 to lvl 40 is fully possible to do without the gear gate.

You are correct, what I have been saying is erroneous: There has not been content addition since november two years ago. That’s because in the “Fractured” patch they removed more content than they added.

I might remember incorrectly, but I seem to recall they removing a grand total of nothing in the way of content with that patch, while adding 4 new fractals.

I am afraid I see no PvE content in the February patches.

I see a totally new permanent map. True, it is in WvW, but it is still content and it is still quite a bit of PvE. You claimed that there have been no content patch (which is false nonetheless due to all the temporary content since then) for six months.

Last “content patch” was 6 months ago, it is knows as the “Fractured” patch. Just writing this word makes me shiver. It is synonym with abuse of power, lies, deception and content removal.

Next patch will be in six months, logically, and it will probably be named “Mutilated”.

My might math might be a bit off, but I am rather sure that February (if we only count permanent content additions) is three months ago, not six. (Fractured wasn’t the last one)

It is not just content that takes up space.
There are also all the new features, possible future stuff and so on.

Another thing to keep in mind is that stuff might very well come back at a later time, such as Labyrinthine Cliffs is doing on Tuesday, and since they are fully aware about what they will bring back, there is no reason remove it from the live client.

Ugh, that’s what I thought. That’s just taking racial sensitivity too far, and I don’t know whether it’s China that’s demanded such removal or Arenanet that’s being paranoid about offending them. I don’t know, and I wish I did. Different cultures should be celebrated, not avoided.

The main issue is that Cantha is a combination of different asian cultures, and I don’t think China (or Japan for that matter) would like to be clumped together with each other, due to history and stuff like that.

The main reason (as far as we know) for no Cantha IS because of China more or less, so them joining the game might very well have the opposite effect than you wish.

And to be fair, GW2 is set in a fantasy world, so I really don’t see the need to represent all real-life people in it.

One thing you seems to be missing is the fact that the fight between the Great Dwarf and the Great Destroyer is a major part of the dwarven legend, which might very well suggest that the dwarves were specifically created in order to battle Primordus.

Which would basically mean that if the Great Dwarf could just create more dwarves at will he could just create a billion dwarves and destroy Primordus in a week. So why haven’t he?

what about deserters, a group of dwarfs who spit on tradition and left the siverpeak to build their own society.
so with that, not all dwarfs are turned to stone because there could be some who did not undergo the rite.

see, it works in lore, just think of a common situation and adjust it to fit a different world order.
it’s not the best way, not in the slightest, but it is a way that works.

As far as I understand the rite, they didn’t really have much choice in the matter.
They could resist it for a while, but sooner or later they would all turn to stone.
Ogden didn’t turn to stone until after Eye of the North (where most (all?) other did) after all, but he is stone now nonetheless.

your theory might be correct, if it wasnt proven wrong by almost every game made in the last 30 years, which built a product, and then sold it.

Now im not saying cash shop isnt an option, or not their chosen way to monetize, however to claim that one cant make money from selling a finished product is really unlikely since that is how most products are created.

I mean essentially the complaint is, the gem shop philosophy in its current incarnation, is effecting the games evolution in ways that dont appeal to the consumer.

And how many of those games were MMOs that got very frequent updates?

You can’t really compare lets say an single player RPG game that is released and then more or less done, with an MMO that constantly changes. The RPG studio can more or less shut down after their game is released because they no longer need to do any major work on it, whilst an MMO still need to maintain a rather large developer group in order to keep the game going.

I have never claimed they can’t make money.
I have claimed that they most likely can’t make ENOUGH money. That is a rather major difference.

I will be satisfied when someone comes with an actual working suggestion.
Relying on expansions alone is simply not realistic for GW2.

Microtransactions is more or less the only way to get money, when sales of the game itself drops, which it always does for all products.

The fact that people have claimed that the cash shop won’t work for long since release would suggest that it clearly works much better than people keep claiming.

IF they release expansions, that will be a large ball of income, but they still need another primary source between those releases, seeing as the time it takes to develop expansions still costs money.

The problem is that the zone where the Zephyrites hang out is more or less completely taken up by their airship.
Without that airship the map is first of all rather small and secondly more or less empty.

People complained rather much when Southsun was released because there were too little things there.
Now how would people react to a map that is very small and literally empty?
