As for the Reward progress (I assume you talk about the tracks?) they won’t fill more than that outside of Solo and Team-queue, which is by design. Not a bug.
And yet, now you can use them in combat, which was not possible before.
They are a company, they need to make money. And one could assume that making them usable in combat actually took some kind of time and effort, and thus it did cost them money to change it.
Would you rather have them unusable in combat?
So yeah, now guild missions. Why have 500 slots for a guild when a “MEGAserver” will only hold 150ish people.
Ridiculous…
To be fair that have been the case since release.
You couldn’t fit 500 players into one map before either. So not really a MegaServer issue.
already 29 pages and no statement from ANet.
Yes:
Although we’re excited that you have more players than ever to explore the open world of Guild Wars 2 with, our work is not yet complete. Our megaserver team will continue to monitor the performance of the technology on live and evaluate your feedback. We will continue to tweak and update the way the system works until it is providing even better megaservice!

Oh, Do you want one actual advantage over the people that don’t buy them?
The people that buy them can get their runes back and re-sell/use them.
Which is not really an unobtainable advantage.
I could get those runes by simply playing the game and selling them.
P2W would require it to actually give you an actual advantage over people that don’t buy them though. Which is not the case.
Everyone can just buy the exact same things in-game (the runes).
Spend less time trolling posts and more time looking up info.
Context is a rather important thing.
I might have been unclear of course, but at least in my eyes that comment rather clearly referred to the schedule of bosses BEFORE the change.
But I suppose liking the game is not okay on these forums, and thus everything I post is trolling.
Why do you want Anet to tweak (in other words reduce) the numbers, while megaserver white knights’ only argument is “crowded maps yuppie” ? It would be the funniest move if ANet decides to reduce player numbers in a map now =)
I don’t really think anyone would be against tweaking the numbers slightly lower to be honest.
Clearly there are issues with having too many people on a map as well, and everyone understands that, including ArenaNet.
According to Anet’s statement at the beginning of the year about feature patches and living story ones, we should actually expect to get a new living story update on Tuesday the 29th.
Not really.
What they did say was: Living Story Season 1 Finale —- Break —-- Feature Patch —-- Break —- Living Story Season 2 start.
They never said anything at all about starting with the 2 week release schedule directly after Feature patch.
Here’s a thought: find a fix for those poor people while not messing up the game for everyone else.
Alright, give us a solution like that.
How would it work so that both sides would be content?
What about merging servers with the lowest population together first to reach a decent ammount of people instead of merging everyone randomly?
Just saying.
Because of WvW.
In order to merge servers in GW2 currently you need to merge them three at a time.
What if there isn’t three servers that have that little population? Or what if one of the servers is a German server?
And the fact remains that even those very high servers still had plenty of more or less empty areas, merging servers wouldn’t really address that issue
Question is: Am I less important? I play on a low-populated server and you could guest if you wanted more people around. I’m not totaly against the mega-server but your argument goes in both directions.
Of course not.
But that is the issue. Who are we to decide which group is more important?
Hi my dear Anet!!!! need more evidence that megaserver was bad idea???? forget the megaserver, it is quite simple: “we were wrong, sorry. We will back to the previous server method”.
Think of the players (customers) and dont destroy the game
What about those players that have been complaining about empty maps for almost two years then?
Should they not think of them? Why are you more important than those people?
A bit slow on the uptake as well.
Seeing as this has basically been the case since release more or less.
Only that the schedule was not posted directly by ArenaNet.
Because
1: They are on a break (which they told us repeatedly that they would be).
2: They are going to release the game in China in a month or so, so they have their hands full with that.
3: The NA/EU and Chinese versions of the game with Living Story and such is going to be synced, so it is unlikely that they will release anything from LS S2 before release in China.
I didn`t say that now did I? Granted, it is official word, but there`s no comment on them making significant changes, or at least, no comment on making changes to the system significant enough to overcome the core problems inherent in the new system, and that is what I`ve been looking for.
Yes you did.
You stated that there were no official word, which is incorrect, and you know it.
They won’t give us details until they have decided what to try next, otherwise people will you shout and whine about being lied to if they figure out that it is not a good solution.
I already knew of this, and quite frankly, I`m assuming this is a pure PR spin attempt. Something this divorced from reality surely must be.
So an official word is not an official word just because it doesn’t say what you want it to say?
They basically said that they know about issues, and are working to fix them.
What more do you want to hear?
Had you complained as much if that bug happened in WvW and they fixed it during the Tournament tomorrow?
It was a rather major bug, and those should be fixed asap. Especially when they have a tournament going tomorrow.
I`ve waited long enough, the lack of official word is as good as coming out and saying that although they are aware of the legion of issues with this feature, there are no plans to significantly change it.

So they should rather have been completely silent instead then?
Oh, but wait, when they were that was wrong as well.
Kitten if they do, kitten if they don’t.
NO, read the post directly prior to yours… Continuing to “roll out” these changes while we had already began turning blue in the face from our complaining, and THEN that blog post on top of it. HUGE slap in the face!
If there is anyone else out there like me, while reading it you almost if not literally said “YEA-RIGHT” out loud when you read the “and evaluate your feedback” part of that blog entry! More like, continue to ignore your feedback and do what we want any kitten ways…
But what else can they say?
I would say it is a rather massive step that they actually more or less admits that it is not working optimally at the moment, and that they will keep working on it.
If they ignored the feedback they would simply have either not posted a blog-post at all, or if they did, not kept working on the system, since in that case they would assume that the system was flawless.
It is quite funny that people complain about that blog-post when it says exactly what (I assume) you have been demanding since release of the mega-server
We’re pleased to announce that now all PvE maps and the Heart of the Mists have been moved over to megaserver technology!
I would say this is a very clear indication that they are still tweaking and working on the system and listening to feedback.
Isn’t that exactly what you have been demanding?
If you don’t care about losing characters you can simply delete all of them, which will allow you to transfer for free.
Well, and here you are approaching the core of the problems with the megaserver implementation. It should work as mentioned above. It doesn’t, and can’t work that way.
Yes it should.
But with today’s technology (and most likely any technology in the foreseeable future) it will never be possible to have an unlimited amount of data in the same space.
The thing is though that this isn’t a new issue, this existed in more or less exactly the same form long before MegaServers were added.
There are currently two choices:
1: Have empty maps which makes stuff impossible to do in many cases.
2: Have megaservers with many people, which might cause issues.
They had the first for about two years, and people have been demanding something else more or less as long. Now they are trying the second choice. Simple as that.
Give it time, and I am certain many of the issues people have will be dealt with.
There is a rather big difference between player knowledge and character knowledge.
Technically our characters doesn’t even know about DSD (it is implied that it exists in the game, but only very obscure and most likely not possible for in-universe characters to figure out it is an ED), but the players does.
You seem to be talking about character knowledge.
And that is basically: Someone in Tyria gave them that name, and as such, people call it by that name.
Same way as we call massive storms different names in the real world.
There should be a 100% chance to be on a map with players from the realm the players chose (often paying to transfer to).
100% chance to be with players in the guild they currently represent.
100% chance to be with players in their squad.
100% chance to be with the players in their party.
What if the map is full?
Should they disconnect someone already on the map?
Exactly.
They haven’t even started working on content.
I keep saying this and no one believes me.
I find it extremely unlikely that they have not started working on the content yet.
They have even outright stated that they have the ending for season 2, which would suggest that they have very much started working on it (and started working on stuff involves brainstorming, writing and stuff like that as well, not just straight coding).
Yeah of course you also watch the last 10 minutes of a movie before you start watching the second movie.
It’s just not right. The first living story hasn’t really ended.
That is a rather flawed analog.
A more fitting one would be to watch Star Wars Episode V before watching I-III.
The first living story ended with the destruction of Lion’s Arch, the death of Scarlet and the awakening of Mordremoth.
It is not really unusual for stories that are part of bigger ones to end that way.
I think the fact that they had to implement megaservers to fill all the empty space has already proved you wrong,
Ah yes, of course.
I am not that good at math, but I am rather sure that 0+0+0+0+0+0+0 is still 0, no matter how many of them you add together.
And wouldn’t all those statements about “almost everyone packing up” after every single update basically mean that there is about 0 people on each server?
Anyone who was around after the final Scarlet event can tell you that the population took a nose dive. After this last fiasco with the town clothes and the megaserver I can only imagine it is even worse.
Just like after Update [insert any name here]?
For some reason everyone seems to pack up and leave after every single patch. And yet the game is still full of people.
1: In 1079 AE (currently it is 1327 AE in GW2)
2: I would assume around 1072 AE when most of them were destroyed.
Yes they do.
You have to keep in mind however that someone actually need to investigate the logs and such. They can’t just blindly ban people because of reports.
It is also rather unlikely that a first offense (if not extreme) would end with a permanent ban, but rather with a few days suspension.
They have to repair lion’s arch. Or do you think they want the
chinese to visit the destroyed city?
Why not?
It is part of the history of the world.
Just like the Dragonbrand for us when we started playing.

2-3 months?! that would not be a good strategy. You don’t get people used to a 2 week content cycle then without warning delay everything for 2-3 months.
Its not like we have progression content to do, Unless you’re into pvp. But that’s all about re-doing old content.
you can tell by this post and others on the first page people are asking for more.
Yeah, that would have a point. IF it was without warning.
They did however REPEATEDLY state that there would be breaks before the Feature Patch and after the Feature Patch.
It is also very possible that they will just delay the asian LS and run them on a different patch compared to EU. Similar to what usually happens when asian MMOs come to EU.
They are used to playing a certain way and as such, patchnotes for the “same” patch can have major differences between the regions.
No, they have made it rather clear that the games will be synced, and as such they can’t really delay the LS like that.
The main problem is that we have nothing left from that living story besides a few skins.
None of the content can be replayed/revisited (tower, scarlett battle, etc). It’s a very bad strategy commercially to remove the content you make like it’s of no importance.
Oh I don’t know.
I seems to recall a rather big city with loads of stuff in in close to Gendarren Fields before the living story…
Aye, the main issue right now is that the basically only have one version of the maps on the servers, and as such the Personal Story is using that version, which doesn’t make much sense.
So just “having them use the old map” isn’t as easy as it sounds.
They have however commented on this issue and said that it will be explained/fixed in the future.
Basically every MMORPG requires you to pay for server change.
You can however guest for free, and with the new MegaServer the servers matters even less, unless you plan on WvW:ing, since all maps with are now combined across servers.
(edited by lordkrall.7241)
Sometime in the future.
I am under the impression that they simply added the information to the patch notes in order to inform people to hold on to their shards and other such stuff, in order to avoid the whole “buhuhu you never told me they could be used for trading!!!” (which we will most likely still see.
Sigh. Some people don’t get it. What people DEMAND and what people RECEIVE are not necessarily the same thing. People wanted a new WvW map, not a new KARMA train map.
I think the more correct statement would be: What people DEMAND and what people WANT are not necessarily the same thing.
What we got was exactly what was asked for. A new map and ways to play WvW while waiting for queue.
You might not like the way it was done, but it was exactly what people asked for.
Come on Anet, I think its time for a response, no update you have done, has caused such a backlash from your community, yet you allow it to continue, time to send in that PR team and talk to your community about how you are going to handle this going forward, because right now its a disaster on an unseen level in the 9 years ive play GW/GW2.
I assume you were not here in November 2012 then?
Most of the people I know quit when this patch went live. I have been trying out PvP but I don’t like the toxic PvP “community” this game has either. I will be leaving very soon if mega servers are not removed.
I seems to recall those people quitting after more or less every single update.
But I might confuse you with someone else.
I just don’t see what there is to enjoy about LS? Wasn’t one of the LS story arcs like a 5 minute conversation between two characters?
Just as how some people don’t see what there is to enjoy in raiding.
What is the difference?
Nope, the arcs are usually quite “meaty” and spans several releases.
There have of course been a couple of small releases, but they have contained quite a bit of very interesting and useful information, and other added stuff that was not specifically tied to Living Story.
I wonder how many times GW2 have been killed now.
Hating MegaServer is the “cool thing” right now. Just wait a few weeks and most people will have calmed down and will keep playing as usual, until the next thing to hate comes along (probably the lack of new LS or something like that).
Some people enjoy raiding. And it beats the 20 minutes of fluff content released by ANet on a biweekly basis, which is quickly taken away.
Do you really want more LS, OP? Even though it’s so disappointing and banal?
Isn’kitten bit ironic that you claim that those people are allowed to enjoy raiding but in the same post seems to imply that no one can enjoy the LS?
I remember back in the days when games got releases every third month or something at most.
For some reason everyone was okay with that, even though they paid every month for it.
It is rather unlikely that they will start Living Story Season 2 before the game is released in China, which should be sometime between middle of May and June.
We might very well have a blog post soonish, but as for the actual start I think we will have to wait some time.
Speaking of guesting…
Guesting was put in place so that players can test the waters of another server without transferring, or play on a server with their friends from another, or to simply complete some content.
Now that its all one server, am I correct in assuming that guesting has completely gone away? Since its one server, who cares about guesting anymore? Was that wasted development time, money, effort? Seems arenanet loves to tinker with crap on live servers for a while before realizing the error of their ways.
Guesting effects (or at least should) which MegaServer you end up on. So it is still relevant.
As for “wasted development time, money and effort”, wouldn’t that basically mean that they should never ever in any way or for ever evolve or change anything in the game? Since that would mean they “wasted” all those stuff when they made the original version of the thing, right?
I’m starting to dig the speculation that megaservers were never really about populating lower level areas and having people to play with.
It was about shutting down servers and saving a ton of money.
So instead of it being a feature, it was a cost-saving measure.
And yet it was something people have been shouting about for months.
But I suppose it could be a combination. Saving money is always good if possible.
A lot of people that are unhappy with megaservers are not posting about it, sadly. In my main guild of about seventy people, no one so far is happy about it and several have already left the game.
And the vast majority of those that are happy with them are not posting either, so I don’t really see that as a strong argument for most people disliking it.
They have posted rather much the last few days.
The problem is that people are spamming these forums so fast so that all threads with ArenaNet responses gets pushed down and thus it looks like they say nothing.
Another thing to keep in mind is that it is still just 8 in the morning over at the office, so most of them have likely not even gotten to work yet.
Yep, seems to be daily.
So is it safe to say that the majority of people are not huge fans of megaservers? Good intentions, bad idea?
Not really.
Not even everyone on these forums agree that it is bad.
These forums are a minority of the actual player-base, and based on what I have seen in game, there are not as many people there having issues with the MegaServer as there are here.
