Oh, how is things going with Living Story S2?
Since you quite clearly seems to be fully aware about how their systems work one would have to assume that you are actually working at ArenaNet.
You don’t have to be part of the company in order to understand that the systems are different.
Or are you really suggesting that a game that is fully instanced with no player to player interaction in the vast majority of maps is identical to a system where more or less every single map is shared among everyone?
(Cute of you to find a week (or something) old post by me and re-posting it here though )
Only thing Anet care is how much money they make, and how many people still play their game.
they don’t really care if forum are spam with how shallow the game, as long as those person dont’ quit (yet).
we vote with our wallet and online time. that’s apparently what anet cares.
OMG a company cares about how much money they make! How dare they?!?
Is this really a surprise for anyone?
Companies are mainly made in order to make money. Of course making money will have a high priority.
How do you think the game would survive (and develop) if they didn’t have any money to spend on it?
How would you suggest they fill the gap in revenue from removing the skins though?

@Arena Net, can you please give us Districts like in Guild Wars when we had districts for guilds and communites to meet up in. We had it in Guild Wars we need it in Guild Wars 2 !
I am rather sure they would have already done that if it was so easy.
But we have to keep in mind that the server systems are completely different between the two games and districts might very well not be possible at this time.
They could do that if they really wanted too, simply by altering the ratio directly.
Of course they COULD, but why WOULD they?
How do you think these forums would react if they did something like that?
Ok let me explain something that you may have overlooked. How does a city spend money on a festival, when the entire city has been destroyed? In real life there would not be any money used on a festival, when rebuilding and clean up should take the priority. If they have a festival now it would be weird… It should be postponed, since no amount of clean up has even been started yet.
And why assume it MUST happen in Lion’s Arch?
Besides we know for a fact that we WILL start rebuilding Lion’s Arch with this update, and as such it is fully possible that they have the festival taking place there in order to motivate the workers and all people effected by the destruction of Lion’s arch.
The answer must be no…
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/prepare-for-the-festival-of-the-four-winds/
Why?
Just because we get this (earlier than Dragon Bash no less) doesn’t mean we won’t get Dragon Bash.
I don’t think there’ll be any living story content with this update. I think this is just to give us something to chew on. Else, why introduce them out of sequence. Queen’s gauntlet was june last year, and Zephyr was august (I think). I doubt there’ll be new bosses, they don’t even have time to be on the forums, why would they have time to balance test new bosses? I do wonder if there’ll be new achievements. Probably not.
They did say something about there being new stuff though, and hints towards S2.
Maybe we will, and maybe we won’t.
We probably won’t know until May 27th at the earliest.
Or stick with 5% worse Exotics. I’m thinking character stats would get significant boosts to lessen the impact of gear.
However, I would be all for new gear too, but I know a lot of you wouldn’t.
But if Ascended gear is equal to lvl 90, that would mean that the exotic gear would still be 10 levels + those 5% worse, and the difference between a lvl 80 exotic and a lvl 70 exotic is rather massive.
I had a crazy idea that Ascended could be the equivalent of level 90 gear. Maybe the 80-90 experience just improves your character in some way (Traits, stats, whatever) so that you’re more powerful. Maybe mobs at higher levels have increased probability of dropping a pre-cursor or something.
So basically force people to get Ascended gear in order to do the higher level areas?
Did I say anything about new gear? :0
How useful would lvl 80 gear be at lvl 90?
Not really—seems to be another recycle.
And yet it is something people have wanted since last time it was around.
And to be fair the thread seems to be more about the silence and lack of updates, and now we got updates and thus most people should be happy.
Of course, typical forumite reaction.
1: Demand that x returns.
2: x returns.
3: Complain about x returning.
And here we have it: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/prepare-for-the-festival-of-the-four-winds/
Happy now? ^^
Aye, really nice. And it is more or less what people have been asking for while we wait for Living Story S2 (I would think that this might very well be tied into it in some way or form though).
People complaining about them just re-releasing old stuff in 3…2…1…
Having the same fractals every level is by design.
If they didn’t have it like that it would basically end up requiring you to grind Agony Resist in order to experience some content in the game, which they most likely never will add.

Well, Anet, if you say so.
I am playing in the Guild Wars 2 China mainland sever. That I want to ask is, what is the VIP membership in China mainland sever now? Or you will release this service to NA/EU server?
Dare you?
They have made it very clear that the VIP system is made specifically for the Chinese version of the game.
It was added due to it being more or less expected over there.
This is stupid, I was about to create a new account but I cannot as I am already using the email address on this account!!!
Do Anet actually want to make money from this game?
Security.
If you have multiple accounts on the same email you would:
1: Be unable to know which account is getting signed into, since you are using the email to login.
2: Lose access to both of your accounts if someone compromised your email account.
This might have worked, if we totally ignored the fact that the races are far from equal when it comes to number of players.
The charr side for one would be extremely outnumbered more or less at all times based on the latest stats I read.
Another thing to keep in mind is that it would very much go against the whole underlying thread of the game. The races working together.
oh look a fanboy with power of predicting the future, ok that is new.
its your guess based of this or that, which is worthless to me, well except for halloween and winters day which was pretty obvious.
could you please let anet talk for themselves they do not need you to defend them.
You wanted to hear what was coming during 2014. Those three things are all confirmed to be coming during 2014, so they should be exactly the kind of answer that you want.
But I suppose it doesn’t matter what people say, seeing as you seems to be hating for the sake of hating more than anything else.
It was indeed rather nice.
Sadly you can’t replay it at this time. There are however guides and stuff that would tell you what happened.
one of the reasons they wont release LS2 before china is because of the spoilers, if we are ahead then china players already know whats coming, particularly if they want to make it mysterious with lore and story like scarlet story.
that being said. almost most of people here asking for state of the game announcement which is about major future plans, it also good for china to know whats coming in 2014 on top of the original game they are getting it might even boost selling both in china and na/eu if the stuffs are good.
its the silence that people are angry about. many are not even asking for content now. again its not about content its about information like any other mmos out there.
Living Story Season 2, which will most likely bring us towards Maguuma.
Halloween 2014.
Wintersday 2014.
Those things are coming this year.
Happy now?
This is a generalization and assumption, our client is not going to get an influx of players. The Asian market is going to be playing on an entirely different client separate from ours.
True enough, but that still doesn’t change the fact that there WILL be an influx of players which WILL mean more money which is good for everyone.
You are aware that a new piece of the map is very far from a “little thing” right? It would most likely take months to create it, if it was going to be anything other than Southsun, which most people seems to hate.
Saying that removing the ritual because it is a fantasy world is rather silly as well. There are extremely many different fantasy worlds and styles.
I can’t wave a stick in GW2 and shout Avada Kedavra and instantly kill anyone for example, same as how I can put on a magic ring and go invisible in Game of Thrones.
You are overall either completely ignoring, or simply don’t understand, how much work a new map would take.
1: That is not what I said. And the dwarves quite clearly DOES exist in the game, and they might very well belong. But having them playable as more or less every single other MMO isn’t really needed.
2: The Destroyers ARE minions of Primordus, the Great Destroyer was a Champion (akin to the Shatterer, Claw of Jormag and Tequatl). Destroyers are created by and follow Primordus or one of its champions.
3: Hm, then I missunderstood all that talk about adding a new race to the game (there already is at least one dwarf that does play a rather large part in the game).
4: The gods of Cantha that we helped weren’t really gods. The gods they have are the same as Tyria, the entities we did help however was envoys, and I doubt they have the power to reverse godlike beings (the Great Dwarf) power. We were never turned into gods. We got the blessing of the Five Gods, nothing more, nothing less. The only one being turned into a god (and that was permanent) was Kormir.
It was not a mortal Dwarf transformation, it was bestowed upon them by the Great Dwarf, which is basically (as far as we know) a god itself.
New content is nice, but why not make it new content, rather than trying to shoehorn in something from GW1 that clearly goes against what was told in Guild Wars 1?
There is a difference between absolute lack of grinding (that would basically mean log in, do everything one time and have every single thing in the game) and lack of MANDATORY grind.
The game have no MANDATORY grind, since you can access and complete every single piece of content in the game without grinding anything.
You seems to be under the impression that the dwarves simply fight leftovers down there.
That is not the case. They are directly fighting the minions of an Elder Dragon (Primordus) and they will keep coming as long as said Elder Dragon is active.
It has also been made very clear that the transformation is permanent.
They are stuck in that form until they are killed.
The very first sentence you post is also the exact reason why we don’t have playable dwarves. Because more or less every other game does, and why must all games be identical when it comes to the races?
You also show rather clearly that you have no clue whatsoever about how development work, and seems to be under the impression that they could just put a fully playable race into the game with a few hours work.
The reason for why we don’t get any long-term information is the fault of these forums.
As soon as ArenaNet says anything about something people here will take that as an absolute set in stone promise and will spam, threaten and hate on ArenaNet if something changes.
We already know what is coming.
Living Story Season 2.
We also know where we are headed, Maguuma.
Well since ANet is sitting on the entire S1 Living World, I doubt that us in the none Chinese regions can wait until China has experienced the entire S1 (which took us over a year), unless they rush it out in China. I’m actually hoping that they don’t sync them up, otherwise either we wait a long time for new content or China loses a large chunk of Living World. Unless they make S1 permanent in both regions… wink wink or at the very least allow us to reply it in some manner.
Unless something have changed the Chinese version won’t have S1, they will start the game at the current point, which means a destroyed LA.
And thus they are syncing them up by making them start at our current point.
Think about it like how we never saw the creation of the Dragonbrand or the Foefire. It is a part of the history of the world, but we as players never experienced it directly.
Yes, that’s how it works. You start with investment. Otherwise GW2 would never been born.
In this case they risk losing NA/EU customers by diverting resources. It sends a bad message to the player base.
There is a rather big difference between making an investment before a product is released and when a product is expanding however.
They might lose a couple of NA/EU customers (entitled people that feel the need to have constant updates about everything) but at the same time most likely gaining a much larger group of new customers.
Another thing to keep in mind is that ArenaNet does not hold the money. NCSoft does, and for NCSoft the current priority (and rightly so) is to focus on getting a as close to perfect launch as possible in the largest MMO market in the world.
Not sure why the payers outside of china have to sit on our hands while china ramps up. I would have expected a new revenue stream to have additional staff to support it.
So you suggest that they hire a bunch of staff with a revenue stream that they don’t actually have until they have launched it, to help launching it?
For the love of god, Buy more employees. More people= job will be done faster. = Profit!
I am rather sure that slavery is illegal in most parts of the world.
Aside from that adding more people doesn’t automatically mean things gets done faster. Not everyone can do everything, and every new person they hire will need to learn the code and so on before they can start working, which takes time from both the new employee and the ones having to mentor said employee.
Talk about blatant lie. I followed the game closely on GWGuru & while people always complained about both stories, GW1 had no where near the complaints that the LS got, and the ones that it did get were not even in the same realm of severity.
And Abbadon? bull. It wasn’t even remotely close to Scarlet. & even with base logic she doesn’t fit into the game as well as Abbadon. She has way WAY more holes.
Oh, looks like we had two completely different versions of Guru and GW1 then, because I very much remember people complaining quite a bit about the story. But then again, rose-tinted glasses does tend to make things look better than they actually were.
And yet people very much disliked that the same evil was behind more or less every single thing in all three campaigns.
How often do people run the raids/dungeons in outland (burning crusade) in WoW?
I’d assume not much because why bother when you can do the newest one.
Which was exactly my point.
They go F2P or Freemium because its more profitable, not because it increases the quality of the game.
Rather they go F2P or Freemium because they couldn’t retain enough players with the sub-model due to lack of quality of the game. If the main reason is that it is more profitable they would just go with that model from the start.
Not getting an anoouncement today does really mean we won’t be getting any new content until June at the least. They always do a preview two weeks before meaning the earliest new patch would be June 3rd. Bummer.
Actually most of the time we got the preview one week before the content.
Week 1: Preview of content A
Week 2: Content A
Week 3: Preview of content B
Week 4: Content B
And so on.
Based on your behavior in this very thread I find it rather hard to “take your side” of the argument to be honest.
You do give of an aura of hostility.
It is possible that they have fixed that, they have a different structure on the Personal Story at least.
They are being syncronized.
But delaying it would suggest they actually had plans to release it before the game was released in China, which is most likely not the case.
China will start the game after the destruction of Lion’s Arch, and will be at the same place as we are right now. Future releases will be released with just a couple of hours difference (think I read something about 16 somewhere).
How is it not obvious by now that this was not a good update, and it needs to either be a top priority to amend it heavily, or else it needs to be removed from the game until they can come up with a better option.
Oh, how is things going with Living Story S2?
Since you quite clearly seems to be fully aware about what they have as top priority one would have to assume that you are actually working at ArenaNet.
Just a clarification. They haven’t just added every 2 weeks. They’ve added AND removed every 2 weeks. There’s a big difference.
Not really relevant though, since they must have added stuff in order to be able to remove it, right?
And quite a bit of stuff did stay for at least 4 weeks for that matter.
Feel free to make that ’’huge list" of new content we had
I will start,
New Heal, and useless Antioxin heal, Fractals, Southsun cove.
So, we have gotten all those things the poster claimed we didn’t?’
Thanks for proving my point.
I think the main issue would be bloating up the world.
If they keep releasing new stuff every two weeks and never remove it, sooner or later the world will just be a massive mess due to massively amount of content that people don’t even bother doing after the first month.
If [insert thing here]was open people would play it for a month, then they would come here and demand something new because “[insert thing here] is so boring!”.
PvE didn’t offer a lot contend related since release. There are no new areas to explore, no new storys to experience, no new skills… nothing. The game basically didn’t change since release.
This is actually blatant lying.
We have gotten new area(s), we have gotten new stories and new skills.
So basically nothing that you claimed is actually true.
People seems to assume that subs automatically makes a game awesome.
Actual fact on the other hand would suggest otherwise.
There are very few sub-based games that are successful.
If the work that went into creating the Tower of Nightmares, the Queen’s Gauntlet, the battle of LA, SAB etc. had resulted in a tower we could actually still explore, LA having something to do, the Gauntlet still being around, and SAB not being arbitrarily turned off and on, then that would have been awesome. Heck, even the living story stuff that’s still playable is largely locked behind getting lucky in fractals.
And how awesome would those things be after we have had them for 6 months and they are more or less abandoned because people have moved on to the next cool thing?
That is something people are overlooking. They always shout about stuff being permanent, and yet stuff that actually is permanent (in more or less every game) is usually abandoned quite fast after the novelty wears off.
It is extremely unlikely that any directly Elder Dragon related stuff will be temporary.
It is rather possible that they will do something like the Personal Story for the other Dragons as well, rather than just temporary events.
So you’re saying temporary content is “more or less exactly like” permanent content? If I create a new character in just about any other MMO ever made tomorrow I can still experience all the expansion content. If I create a new character for this game today I’ll never be able to experience all the Living Story content I missed. I don’t know about you, but to me that’s not even close to “exactly the same”.
Can’t you at least read what you quote before answering?
The post I made talked about how stuff added with expansions are played a couple of days after release and then forgotten, which the poster I quoted seems to assume was something specific to the Living Story.
People only did it the first few days of release, max. Just to get achievement points or w/e flavor of the month skin.
You mean basically more or less exactly like expansions and such as well?
People run the content a few days and then they leave it alone for a year or so until the next expansion is released.
To begin with, we’ve decided to extend the duration of the tournament to nine weeks total, so the competition will run from March 28 through May 30
From the newer post.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/get-ready-for-wvw-spring-tournament-2014/
So here’s an assumption so take it for what its worth. Beta for us lasted about 3 months then the game went live. I imagine we in the EU/US will get started on our next living story thing sometime in the next month or two. So will the Chinese pop in smack dab in the middle of some new story arch? They wouldnt make us wait till the Chinese launch to see the next chapter of Living Story would they?
There is a rather major difference though.
The game is already released elsewhere and as such an open beta doesn’t need to be as long as when the game is first released.
We will test updates for China and once they are polished they will be released there. We are pretty much the unofficial test server at this point.
Yeah, they are going to be able to polish super-much stuff in those 16 or so hours between the two releases
