Condition Damage vs Condition Duration

in Players Helping Players

maddoctor.2738

well ONE stack of bleeding adds 1 pulse per second, but each additonal stack adds one more tick per second, and well 1 stack of bleeding is useless, you need AT LEAST 10-15+ before bleeding become worthwile

Each stack will have a duration for example 3.2seconds so each stack won’t deal more damage if your +condition duration doesn’t exceed 1 second.

If that’s true, then Burning is completely useless, 8 stacks of bleeding equal burning damage at 0 condition damage, 6 stacks of bleeding equal burning damage at 850+ condition damage, and Burning doesn’t even stack

Edit: getting back to my question though I was wondering if theres an area of the achievement list that is fun/easy to complete for a good amount of points? Besides pvp im not tapping into that ‘goldmine’ yet

I like Jumping puzzles so I already did all of them while doing my 100% exploration, this gives 440 points.
If you like exploration you can try the Explorable achievements as they are numerous, fun and give lots of points, there are mini dungeons to do, hidden places to find and more. Those are nice 500+ points, it depends then if you want to do all the Dungeon paths and get a Legendary weapon.
Boss achievements are fun, there are achievements for all the starter area bosses, the 3 dragon lieutenants and one extra in Bloodtide coast, overall they can also be fun to do, the dragons can be rewarding if you are lucky.
Hero achievements are probably the best way to get lots of points while doing something unique and fun. Basically, you have to make one character of each race and see all their storylines up to level 30, it’s not hard or time consuming by any means and it is fun (if you like the story). Then pick three of those characters, enter a different Order and do their storyline too, there a lot more points while “doing something”.
You shouldn’t even “try” the Slayer and Weapon Master achievements, they will come natually as you do the others.

I don’t know, I mean, even if they are going to implement it I wouldn’t expect it until maybe the 1st expansion is released. Also, if they do implement dueling into this game, there will be a LOT of nerfs based off of it.

I can already hear the QQ

If they add dueling it should be completely optional, no “dueling messages/requests” if you don’t want etc it shouldn’t affect the game in any way and the devs should simply ignore any QQ that comes from it. There is already enough nerfing because of sPVP in the game, coming from people who can’t think how a change will affect PVE…

Condition Damage vs Condition Duration

As a rule of thumb, which is better for Bleed? For Burn? And for Poison? Thanks.

Bleeding deals damage each second so calculate your +Duration to give a full second for it to be worth it. Bleeds have higher duration so I’d say going for damage is more important than duration, even without duration extention you can keep a lot of bleed stacks.

Burning is affected differently by condition duration because each application stack. If you deal 2.5 seconds of Burning with your attacks you will deal damage 5 times 2,5+2,5=5 If you have a reliant way to spam Burning (with auto attack for example) you can stack duration with small increases e.g assuming that each application deals 2.2 second of burning: 2.2 → 4.4 → 6.6 → 8.8 → 11 so after 5 uses you get an “extra” 1 tick of damage. Just see if you can keep your foe perma-burning for it to be worth it, if you can’t condition duration isn’t a good choice, if you can, go for it.

Poison is best used with duration extention, as most often a party will need poison to reduce healing instead of dealing damage

I’m using a Noble’s set and that’s a “heroic” look for sure. Not as flashy as some others but I don’t want flashy, I’m looking for some better red options though

Do these dc problems happen to people that don’t dc often? I’ve ran with my team several times and it has only happened once to someone who actually has an ongoing internet problem even outside of fractals. I was starting to think that the dc problem is on the players’ end, but I could be wrong.

I’ve done around 75 Fractals and never had a single DC, same with my team of “regulars”. However, when I grouped with people who already had connection issues they DCed in Fractals too, as it was bound to happen. Although in lots of cases it’s a client issue, it’s not always, as Anet used to have lots of routing issues in the past (especially in the first month) so it could either still be a routing issue or a client issue, or both.

Another question, I know I am sorry, but does GW2 suffer from what other MMOs have and that is influxes of too many of one class. Cause I see a guardian every time I turn around. I assume no since thee “Role” things is done away with so it wouldn’t matter if a group was all the same class. Well that’s what I am hoping for.

You see lots of Guardians around because at the moment they are the best prof to play if you want to get more used to the combat system. With a Guardian (and Warrior) you can achieve what other profs achieve without worrying much, even by simply standing still. Of course where it matters, high end PVE-Dungeons-PVP-WvW the Guardian needs to be like all other profs, it’s only the simple everyday PVE grinding/farming/mining that they have it a bit easier than others.

and some features to put a little bit more competitive spice in the pve realm, because as it is a lot of player quit because they feel they cant “shine” (actually only your fractal level is worthy of bragging about right now in term of raw skills in pve)

Given the number of exploits/bugs and the usage of revive orbs in Fractals, even your Fractal level isn’t worth bragging about :P

As for other potentially “worth bragging for” things someone might do in the game:
Legendaries can be bought with real money… yeah nothing worth bragging about them. No skill required even without real money, just an endless grind/farm.
Full <dungeon name> set, isn’t worth either, it means you farmed one super easy path 100 times or, in the case of Arah, killed the first boss in path3 a few hundred times.

The only “title” PVE-wise that is worth displaying/acquiring (in my opinion) is the Dungeon Master, if it was character bound instead of account even better. Of course someone might argue that one that has it was “carried” by his friends, true, but I can’t think of anything other worth bragging about.

3. Reduce DR. I understand you want people to play on all paths, but some paths have some really annoying dungeon mechanics…Some paths are just better than others.

Then the answer isn’t to reduce DR but make harder paths more rewarding, and even higher reward for doing all of them, and even higher reward for doing all dungeons on all paths. People grinding a single path because “it is easy” has to stop, but DR isn’t the answer, for incentive to run the others is the answer

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

maddoctor.2738

While everyone posting here is missing the skill system, and who can blame them, Guild Wars 1 had the best skill system ever, I want to add something slightly different:

Mob skillbars. In Guild Wars 1 all mobs were using the exact same skills available to players, same attack speed, same moving speed, ~same damage (at same levels), ~same healing etc, in Guild Wars 2, just like in most MMORPGs, and even lots of single player RPGs as well, the mobs are using some different skills, they have more hit points, FAR reduced attack speed and more damage (for example Veterans/Champions). Also, there was full skill synergy in Guild Wars 1, the combo system is very lacking in Guild Wars 2, they need to expand upon it. It is important to note that in Guild Wars 1 you didn’t have a 8-skill skillbar, you had 64, 8 per character in a 8-man team with FULL synergy among them, it’s wrong to say that in Guild Wars 1 you had just 8 skills. In Guild Wars 2 there is absolutely no party building required.

The system in Guild Wars 1 allowed Arenanet to create challenging encounters without adding 1-shot kill abilities, super damage red circles, without increasing damage, without increasing hit points. Instead, all they had to do to make an encounter difficult was to add “meta” skillbars on mobs. Just like what they did in Slaver’s Exile or any of the Guild Wars Beyond content, “pro” builds so players were occasionally fighting mirror builds of themselves.

The system also allowed the inclusion of pve-only skills, that “forced” players to earn reputation points to make them more powerful. Some of those pve-only skills were seriously overpowered and could tip the balance when fighting in Hard Mode. And so we come to the second missing point in Guild Wars 2:

Reputation. The various factions in the game were giving benefits when fighting in their respective zones, while also improving the power of certain pve-only skills. The reputation system increased the replayability, depth and of course longevity of the game. It tied in perfectly with Hard Mode, Vanquishing and finishing those Handbooks for reputation, which required the player to complete either all story steps or all dungeons, or at least a great number of them.

They removed that perfect system and instead on focusing on doing ALL dungeons players are “forced” by the system to farm a single dungeon for the looks/gear they want (how lame is that?) unless they want the Dungeon Master’s title. In Guild Wars 1 there was good reason to do all dungeons and repeat ALL missions, something that is solely missing in Guild Wars 2 were players are required to jump farm/grind specific places.

Secondary objectives, all missions had some kind of a secondary or optional objective. Those added an extra layer of depth, difficulty and replayability. Also, in a game with full npc teams, they made it essential for players to group up and do content together, who remembers the mission in the jungle or the desert in Prophecies? Some of the secondaries were extremely hard with henchmen (not so with heroes though)… These objectives gave an extra, important incentive to go back and redo missions.

Also, very recently I created a Charr and played with a group of friends up to the level 10 personal story quest. Let me tell you that a group of 5 has a different experience than soloing, Anet did an excellent job at scaling the personal story quests with more players but nobody will see it, nobody will see how epic Battle of Claw Island is with 5 players, nobody will fight the Mouth of Zhaitan with 5 players, that has little in diffirence than a dungeon boss etc. There is potential to turn some PS quests in missions, like in Guild Wars 1, along with secondary objectives, replayability, why not add Hard Mode and reputation books to them as well.

As I said on the other thread about it, there should be a simple “flag” set, called “Duel”, default should obviously be OFF, and anyone who actually wants to duel would need to set it to ON, only an ON player can request a duel from another ON player, OFF players shouldn’t be bothered in any way by duel request spam.

If the duel takes place in a lower level area the level 80 will already be “adjusted” by the downscaling system, there is no reason to change his stats to his actual level if a duel is started.

Finally duels should never be allowed inside cities and incur no death penalty and/or repair cost.

Imagine bringing back Underworld and Fissure of Woe from Guild Wars 1, but not as dungeons but as true zones. Elite hardcore zones made for exploration and high level farming. Where most mobs are veteran level status. Where dynamic events reveal chests like in GW1 for the rarest crafting materials in the game.

Ideally it would be nice to see all realms of the 6 gods, but these 2 zones have a lot of history and nostalgia behind them.

In other words a zone like Mad King’s Labyrinth? Of course harder and more complex, but it should be doable. Of course having it as a “public” zone without restrictions would cause a lot of issues, lag most notably, but if they limited the amount of players and create overflows for it just like what happened in Mad King’s Labyrinth it could work as a mix between open world and dungeon

- Dueling System:
The devs are going to implement “rented” servers for sPVP where you can set your rules, for example making a match 1vs1. Dueling in the middle of nowhere doesn’t make much sense and if they ever do something like that it must be a “flag” to set if you duel, by default the flag is “off” and if anyone ever wants to duel set it to “on” and wait for someone that wants a duel, I don’t want duel request spam and I really don’t like dueling in the middle of nowhere, dueling in sPVP is fine, I always try to get 1vs1 fights anyway.

- Trading System:
The reason they won’t add that is because they want the fees from the TP, so I don’t see anyway to add direct trading. Also, it will lead to amazing spam of WTS/WTT/WTB all over LA which is ridiculous. We already have enough LFM spammers for Fractals.

- Following System:
If Elementalist skills like Ride the Lightning and Magnetic Grasp are an indication of how pathfinding works in this game, then I wouldn’t want to follow anyone anywhere. Now if they fixed their pathfinding issues why not.

Sigil in off-hand weapon

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: maddoctor.2738

maddoctor.2738

It occurs on a 30% chance when you use a skill/attack to hit the enemy. It occurs when using both mainhand and offhand weapons, but the mainhand sigil will try first.

Example: You have superior sigil of blood in mainhand and water in offhand.

When you attack, the rng will check if blood worked, then if it didn’t, it will check if water worked.

I was testing a Sigil of Fire in main hand and Sigil of Air in off-hand, they both have a 30% chance on critical to deal extra damage, but only my Sigil of Fire ever worked. You can only have one on-crit sigil active at a time, can’t have two of them, just like with a Sigil of Bloodlust and Sigil of Accuracy, you won’t get both benefits.

Also weapon swap sigils (like Energy) and on-crit sigils (like Fire) share their cooldown. To be perfectly sure use either a stat-increase sigil on your off-hand or a sigil of force.

Soft/Hard Caps

maddoctor.2738

I was following this thread, some interesting ideas on how to deal with condition damage “stacking” problem:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Bleed-Stack-Plan

Instead of removing the stack limit on Conditions, why not add a limit to all other stats? The two huge sides of build optimization at the moment are Burst damage and Toughness/Healing, the first to kill an opponent as fast as possible, the second to survive as much as possible, any other build just isn’t as “optimal”

There are lots of threads out here about people speccing heavily in defense and being near un-killable in PVP or players 1-shotting enemies. Granted all those builds have various disadvantages but their potency on those certain situations can’t be neglected. We also get various nerfs to skill power to compensate for stacking of healing and damage abilities.

What I’m proposing here is to add first a soft-cap on all stats and then a (much higher) hard-cap. This would keep all skills the same at reasonable levels of an attribute while reducing their effectiveness when a stat reaches higher amounts. This will be important in the game with the advent of Ascended gear, with more numbers in stats, will come more imbalances, instead of waiting for those 1-shot builds to appear, act now and reduce stat effectiveness.

For example if a skill appears to be healing too much on certain builds, because it scales too well with Healing Power, nerfing the amount of healing gained by the skill isn’t optimal, because it becomes “overpowered” at higher levels of the stat, a reasonable amount won’t make it imbalanced, thus instead of nerfing the skill individually, nerf Healing Power, so at higher levels, more Healing Power is needed to increase it by 1 (soft cap) and a (higher) hard cap that nobody can surpass.

The system isn’t new to the game so not much “coding” should be required for this, because Precision is already using a similar mechanic to determine how much is needed for a 1% increase in Critical Chance, although it scales with character level, not Precision levels.

In conclusion, I believe a soft/hard cap is needed for all player stats, so stats can’t reach excessive numbers and make builds broken, nerfing individual skills will only make them useless, or a lot less viable, for those players who aren’t using an “optimized” build on them. Stacking of stats with Runes/Traits/Items/Food etc isn’t always good for balance, adding a soft/hard cap will make a thousand more builds more viable

An open discussion about fair punishment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maddoctor.2738

maddoctor.2738

However, I do agree that punishments should be lowerd to 2 strikes and you are out. Most of the player base I’d asume is below the age of 18 (and I doubt they visit the forums that often) and I bet there is a fair share of fairly young people that only heard about “that money making trick” and used it and ended up being banned. So, instead I would just have a notification pop up that pretty much states “look you did this, its a bug. you got a strike and we removed the gold. the strike will be removed in a month or two, but if you get caught again it can result in a perm. account ban”.

Let me ask you then how many strikes should a player who exploited the same bug a thousand times get and how many someone that did it once? Shouldn’t there be some difference in punishment between someone who abused the system for days and days and someone who did it just a couple of times to get enough ectos to buy the last exotic piece he was missing?

You are forgeting the fact that those who exploit and earn tons of gold don’t tend to keep that gold on themselves, their gold could’ve been translated in abyss dyes, or exotic equipment, or for the more serious exploiters precursors. Are you going to remove those items too? What about those who sold those items? What about items made with those ectos then sold? Will you take back the items too? What if someone bought with his hard-earned money a weapon that was made using “exploited ectos”. It’s not as easy as it seems to return everything to how it was before the exploiting began, it’s not as simple as taking back the gold.

An open discussion about fair punishment

Exploits

An exploit is a bug or glitch, and if the “specific” exploit is not noted in the TOS (terms of service), players should not be automatically banned. Punishment should be handled case by case. Bugs and glitches (exploitable) have always occurred in online games, and are considered by most a normal fun part of gameplay. Unless a player uses an exploit to make real life money, then this should not be an automatic bannable offensive.

There is one problem with that. Time. In the time they have before their case is “handled” these “exploiters” can move their profits somewhere else, how far should the developers go to search their logs as to where all those ectos end to? And then should they “take them back” or “remove the items created” as some suggestions appeared from time to time? What about those who bought those “exploited” ectos without exploiting themselves, should they also be compensated?

When the karma cultural weapon “exploit” first appeared Arenanet decided to disable the mail system before they could identify the “culprits”. Instead of punishing legitimate players, like that time, everyone lost the ability to use mail, including using the TPI, I believe the ban was necessary, if only it could stay for a finite period of time instead of a perma ban, until they can more accurately gauge how much the exploiting player affected anything, as you say, in a case by case scenario. But that in-depth analysis cannot happen while those offenders are still roaming about freely.

So yes to immediate ban, but a big no to perma ban, ban for as long as it takes to resolve each case separately.

I thought this wasn’t going to be a dungeon-only game… Maybe I was mistaken and “running only dungeons at 80” is what it had degraded too. Better, and more complex, more time consuming pre-events for all dungeons please. (Ok Arah can stay as it is)

Other games have an unstuck ability that moves your character back a bit to get it unstuck. You just type in /stuck and the game mechanic works like a charm.

I do not understand why GW2 does not have a similar in game command to help players out who get stuck in odd places.

Problem is when you are stuck in some “large” object that was recently destroyed, aka stuck in geometry, you aren’t “Stuck” so a /stuck command doesn’t work. You can move freely inside the space previously occupied by the object, you can use your skills etc you aren’t “stuck” in a meaningful way, some objects, like that Dredge turret or the big Inquest golem in Mount Maelstrom have huge hit boxes that for some obscure reason don’t disappear when they die, or at least they should “push” the player out when they die/destroyed so the player isn’t stuck inside

How is this racist when the idea now is to encourage people to play other races? you should look up the definition of racist.

Discrimination, why can’t my human like asura culture!

Because the human can’t wear Asuran clothes? It doesn’t make much sense for a race to wear clothes made for another race

I would love to see how a Norn would fit into tiny Asuran clothes

So if I’ve explored all of them already, I’ll need to roll throw-away alts just to complete the monthly?

Read the rest of the thread… you get the achievement by finding them, even if you’ve already done them before

Stuck in Geometry

Today I was at the Dredge fractal for a quick run. We got the gate path where you have to destroy a gate to proceed with torches, not the bombs. There are also some turrets just before that gate that need to be destroyed because they cause too much aoe.
I was playing my Guardian and attacked the middle turret with my Sword/Shield, once the turret was destroyed I was stuck in the geometry and couldn’t get out.

My party members tried to pull mobs near me to attack me but it didn’t work, I wasn’t getting any damage, there was absolutely no way to continue our run other than restarting…

I submitted bug reports in game and hope for a fix to this issue because it’s gamebreaking.

Anyone interested sign this on the suggestion forums:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/A-resign-command
it will solve soooo many issues, especially in Fractals.

A /resign command

Today I got stuck in geometry twice while doing Fractals, no way to die so we could restart from the nearest checkpoint so only way to progress was to restart, it was our second Fractal though. Similar issues, with players dying out of reach happen all the time, so I have a suggestion: add a /resign command so we can restart from a checkpoint without the need to suicide first and solve the issue of stuck players in geometry.

This is not arguable – the achievement is just simply stupid, I could think of 100 better ones in a minute. I’ve done all of the JP’s and revisiting them is by far the most pointless thing I could think of tbh. Events = profit (gold, karma), wvw kills (badges and fun), fractal (profit and fun anyway imo) etc…
Now JP’s = Massive 100% braindead waste of time, I’ve done them all and they are NOT fun the 2nd time you ‘discover them’ (lol what the kitten??)…
Truely shows how incompetent some people are, honestly…if I was trying my hardest to think of a really bad monthly achievement – I wouldn’t even come up with that, that takes some skills to make up smth that bad.

And Jps = fun too, that’s not arguable for lots of people. Maybe you don’t like them but others like them, you think WvW is fun, some think it isn’t, you think fractals, some don’t even go there, what YOU believe is not a fact or what everyone else believe as well.

There are worse monthly achievements, like doing Fractals yet again… how many times will they require doing Fractals for a monthly? Some variety is needed and something that is not what people do anyway.

You only need to find the jumping puzzle no need to finish it. You can get it even if you did it before

The rewards that I’m receiving from events, enemies, tasks, etc. aren’t up to par with gold sinks such as the heavy teleporting prices and armor repairs. I’ve been noticing that it’s sucking me dry.

I think that teleporting prices in areas that have been completed should be discounted, if not eliminated entirely. Same for armor repairs, although it’s not as expensive as teleporting as it’s not used as often.

What do y’all think?

I think goldsinks are very cheap in this game.

1) For repairs: don’t die that often… Adapt to the playstyle required by the game, learn/try new builds etc. Be creative and don’t just spam 1, learn how to dodge and how to play properly your profession and you shouldn’t die so often that gold sinks affect you.
2) For teleports: stop teleporting all the time. Learn the “shortcuts”, Heart of the Mists → Lion’s Arch for free, then from there port to any of the starter towns for free, there your costs will drop. Also, don’t teleport within the same zone, walk there, you will find events on the way, participate in them, that’s how the game will feel alive, and it is way more fun than teleporting to the nearest event all the time.

There, solutions to both problems and no gem purchase is needed.

In order to get the January month achievement you have to complete 30 JPs. In other words, if you already have them all, you are forced to do them again in order to get the achievement, is this some kind of a joke?

1. Monthly achievements are completely optional
2. You don’t need to complete any jumping puzzles for the achievement, just finding them is enough
3. Last I checked I had to do 7 fractals again and kill 50 enemies in WvW again to get my other monthlies, also I was “forced” to do those too, I don’t see why JPs should be any different

Achievements (monthly and daily) are currently the only way to “force” people to do a variety of things instead of their mindless farming/grinding or dungeons/events/ori… I see no reason for it to be removed
