@ maha its not as simple as just waiting out a fire field and camping on a sword. Its about taking advantage of might stacking as well.

and if you watch the videos #1 and #2 which I did myself you’d see that i take full advantage of the might stacking without your build.

so what is your point?

just upload a video of you killing some boss that there are condi solos already present of and if you get a faster time then we’ll see if we can beat it or if your build really is #1 legit

@ maha The build would be faster than those condi videos. Since your adrinaline gain is so much higher you can lay more fire fields than that and the cool down of the bow skills mean u can use them more frequently

The whole point is that you camp sw/sw and only go lb when the burning has almost expired. so…. there’s no need to lay down more fire fields.

And the healing makes it so you can practically face tank a lot of attacks that you would normally dodge.

or you can just spend 0.75s dodging or blocking and start attacking again.

For that spider fight. Cleaning Ire and shake it off would of allowed you to clear the immobilize and you could of applied more dps otherwise etc.

i’m pretty sure you didn’t even watch the video. i switched to 0/30/20/0/20 to take cleansing ire to cleanse the immobilise. the one time I didn’t is that I was an idiot and used flurry to cleanse and used it too early so the immob was instantly reapplied.

if your build would be faster, feel free to post a faster vid and then i can try beat it.

How are my arguments useless when you’re the one saying things like “retal is a brainless boon” and “can we finally remove retal damage from blurred frenzy”?

Your “arguments” are completely self-centred and show complete disregard for actual skill balance just because you want to be able to make yourself invuln for 2.5 seconds with no consequence. One thing you may have noticed is that a lot of classes have evades/invulnerabilities with long cooldowns – blurred frenzy doesn’t, so taking retaliation damage I feel is a perfectly reasonable trade-off.

If everyone would do what you just said you would have a game with 10% of the current population.

The current dungeon meta is hostile towards mesmers so I rarely play mine with the guild anymore. So what I did, is when I do actually run with them I play a class actually worth taking. I still play the game, for the record. Hyperbole doesn’t help your side of the argument, you’re honestly just looking silly at this point.

People pulling mobs on to me while I solo a boss to pop a waypoint, people who get angry at other party members for failing a skip when all four of them are dead on the floor, people pressuring others to run meta when I create groups with no requirements. Having a Mesmer call 3 other people in the group casual for not knowing how Brie works despite admitting they were new was honestly just sad. The guy was being smug despite being a GS Mesmer and having to use the boat skip because chaining stealth is too hard apparently.

ANet wanted specific roles for classes; your role is portals, veils, projectile reflection, condition cleansing, boon stripping, quickness, pulls and ranged pressure in WvW. Just because you dislike that doesn’t mean the game is broken in any way.

Projectile reflection is useless and only deals more damage to yourself by retaliation than you apply to them.
Veils and portals are both out of combat skills. It doesnt affect in combat gameplay.
Boon stripping is mostly only possible with null field, but most of all with shatter. You can’t shatter if you die cause of retal damage.
The aoe condition cleanse on mesmer requires you to stay really close to your guys and is really poor compared to the other classes such as guardian and warrior. Also most ppl run -condition duration food. Cleansing is not that needed.
You have 1 pull on a very long cooldown. It’s not even close to being as good as any CC a warrior can do.
Our ranged preasure is like eh…. 0? It’s also multi-hitting like blurred frenzy so you will get melted by blurred frenzy as it is 9 hits of retal every 1.5 sec.
The quickness is very static and is nerfed by 50% so it makes no sense

Another thing, of all things you listed, 7 of those are either elites or utilities. Since when do we have so many slots?

If you take a bar of veil, null field, blink and time warp you have access to six of the things I mentioned. And sure, most people take lemongrass food but that’s why condis can just take koi cakes to nullify the condition reduction. So what I’m seeing so far is that mesmers have roles – niche roles – but you dislike them and aren’t willing to pay any attention to retaliation so you want blurred frenzy buffed. Here what I recommend – stop suiciding yourself and actually try picking your targets.

A giant AOE like lupi’s that does massive damage I don’t think you should be able to reflect it back considering how much damage is being reflected. How ever basic shots I do think are ok to be reflected back. Perhaps it shouldn’t reflect 100% of the damage it does if it were to be something similar to that aoe. Perhaps i was too harsh in being so blunt about it.

Considering you need to be in a pretty optimised party to get “massive damage”, I think it’s fine. In a pug or solo setting you’re not going to be getting massive amounts of reflects most of the time, and if you’re missing banners and/or fury then the reflects might not even crit and will be weaker as well.

How ever that nerf means nothing since it’s required to melee lupi now so it still reflects a ton of damage back while every one takes nothing.

Assumption #1 – people are meleeing
Assumption #2 – it’s a mesmer using reflect
Assumption #3 – people are still alive
Assumption #4 – the mesmer knows what to reflect
Assumption #5 – the reflect class has close to maximum critical chance (banner of discipline, fury, spotter)
Assumption #6 – a lot of vulnerability has been applied prior to the AOE

These are pretty huge assumptions to make in most groups. The fact of the matter is, the projectiles being reflectable is a non-issue and can’t even be fully utilised in 99% of groups.

so I was talking to Dub yesterday about condition soloing, and it had me thinking – if you’re using a condition build with rabid gear you’re tankier which means you can soak more boss hits, one of your condition weapons might be ranged, and conditions are always ticking even if you’re trying to evade a boss which means you never really lose damage uptime whereas with a power build if you’re trying to get away from damage you’re basically doing zero during that time. Also in the case of warrior, the might stacking is absolutely insane which means it doesn’t even matter that you don’t have a forceful greatsword equivalent.

when I was looking at my condition ticks too, when I had torment, burning and was reaching the bleed cap I had basically bypassed the berserker DPS I was capable of in that same solo setting.

now bearing this fact in mind – pugging. I don’t want to promote a generation of players rocking condi builds in pugs saying “hey this guy said it was good kitten you zerker elitists and then ragequitting their group” – but the DPS is on par with direct damage. since pugs normally do pretty bad damage, they’ll be using power builds if they go for a “tanky” build and their condition application is probably going to be all just as a side effect of them mashing skills rather than intentionally applying them – may it even be worth it going condi in a pug? you’ll basically be doing solo DPS, which is on par with your berserker DPS, except … you have more survivability.

also – condi is hella fun to play after playing power for so long.

30/30/0/0/10 for organised groups; I use 30/20/0/20/0 for solo Lupicus or pugs since warden reflects are kind of a big deal in phase 3 since the fight is drawn out but if you’re in a proper group you’ll most likely burst him to 30-35% with feedback, people will just dodge the first spray and then you’ll have a feedback up for a second one if he does it.

When it comes to using wardens on Lupicus, they reflect some of the phase 2 projectiles but will die every time to splash damage, so don’t try to sit in the reflect radius – but in phase 3 if you sit directly in your warden and he sprays, you won’t be touched and you’ll get a bunch of reflects.

As I posted earlier on the suggestion forum I think the real problem is that the current retaliation design and implementation is broken.

Retaliation’s point is to discourage landing lots of fast hits. Clearly it’s doing its job and its implementation isn’t broken just because you don’t like it.

Yes maybe we should shut ourselves off from everything that is broken in this game and just watch how this game of bugs will continue dying while everyone is pretending there’s nothing to worry about.

It’s not broken at all, you just want to be able to use blurred frenzy in ZvZ but don’t like that you just obliterate yourself through retaliation if you do it. How about rather than calling the game broken, full of bugs and dying and any other hyperbole you can think of, you take a second, think “maybe I need to adapt my playstyle” and when you’re up against a zerg you don’t suicide yourself with retaliation next time?

Run Arah p2 in 20 minutes, get 5 champ bags4 boss chests, 3.31g and 26 tokens.

OR

Run the pavilion boss event for 8 minutes, get 6 (?) champ bags and some karma.

6 champ bags? What? Those champions never dropped bags just the reward bag at the end and that has 2 bags in it not 6 and it takes much much longer than 8 minutes.

I’m offering the comparison of basically the most ideal blitz reward and time so as opposed to just doing Arah p2. Most of the time it takes a lot longer, so yeah it’s more like 30 minutes for 2 champ bags.

And once again rT show their inability to offer actual proof by uploading a bad run where ranged classes suicided themselves on Belka’s shield, where a ranger didn’t even make the skip to abomination, where scholar buff was poorly maintained in general, a completely unremarkable Lupicus, a disaster at Alphard, a sketchy skip to Brie with low stealth uptime and an average Brie.

You’ve argued relentlessly with Guang for pages and pages and pages on end, so when he says “run this comp and tell me how it goes”, kitten well you should take it seriously and get a good, solid video of it out so that we can all get a good gauge of how well the composition performs, not a run where people are faceplanting all over the place and making silly mistakes.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think an engi fits in a p2 speed clear composition myself, but if you want to prove that, don’t post a bad video and then go hurrr lol guang ur wrong and sit there brofisting each other, it’s sad, pathetic and you should all be ashamed of yourselves for the complete joke that you’ve all turned this thread in to- and bloody well not the funny type, it’s embarrassing to read.

So here’s what I recommend.

Get serious, get five people willing to bring their A-game and post a smooth p2 run with the Guang composition. This doesn’t mean perfect, just smooth. Then we can analyse the parts where an engineer is insufficient and where X class would have been better, and we can also analyse the bonuses an engineer brought and why it was better for them to be there than Y class.

This is just my opinion, not that of Death and Taxes as a whole.

There is a DPS/control/support trinity, it’s just 99% of players are too ignorant to realise it.

In that case, the question that needs to be addressed is “why is ranged play inferior to melee range?” Having a class of players who the game favours mechanically over every other build is a sign of a badly balanced (at best) game, or a broken game (at worse). If there is absolutely no area of the game where melee characters cannot outperform ranged characters, what point is there in even having ranged options? ANet might as well just delete bows/rifles/pistols/staff/scepters and be done with it, the same way they just removed underwater combat from PvP.

The point is that ranged weapons come with less risk, that is why they exist in this game. This means your casuals and newbies can do content, while your experienced players can rightfully cut through it with melee weapons because they’re familiar enough with it.

Risk/reward

People are too quick to call things broken, but the risk/reward of melee vs. range is something that’s present in like every RPG ever, it’s not broken at all.

Eh, some of the Guild Bounty bosses can do stuff like that. It’s not exactly new.

For open world, whatever. I mean you have people being instantly killed there and everyone ranges, anyway. For dungeons though, no, things like that are not needed at all.

And I see nothing wrong with having bosses where attempting to use melee is almost impossible. We have bosses that are flat out immune to ranged attacks. Or that going ranged on them will result in the boss using extremely dangerous attacks that could wipe the party. If one side can have it, why not the other?

The whole point of anti-ranged mechanics is to force people out of their comfort zone. Melee is already risky enough that there doesn’t need to be specifically anti-melee mechanics besides the threat of being dealt damage.

If this ends up in groups with 5 Warriors using the tactics you mentioned for speed clearing, and you dislike that thought, then don’t join speed clear/PUG groups. The speed-clearers can kill the boss in under 30 seconds, while a PUG may take 3 mins; that’s really no different to what we’re seeing between speed-clear and PUG dungeon groups now.

I dislike it because it stagnates class diversity and encourages you to just brute force fights. Or you just go five staff ele and range it since staff eles at (close) range are insanely good damage. PbAoE conditions to discourage melee is honestly a terrible idea.

And what about bosses where one player needs to be at a distance for mechanical reasons? (e.g. the lever puller in Dredge fractal, or the fan monkey in Uncategorised) Are those players sitting at range not contributing just because they’re using a ranged weapon to deal what damage they can from their spot?

Players don’t need to be at a distance for either of those fights, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

You drop the lever in dredge, drop down and melee the boss with the group and kill it. With Old Tom, you run in, put either an earth elemental, bear pet or untraited wardens in front of the party and burst it within those ~10 seconds.

Well, in their defense, it’s not all that intuitive.

Sure, people posting on this forum might have some idea that Personal Defense options are just sort of these unspoken deadzones in PvE character building. But it’s not like the game itself does anything to make it clear those options are PvP only.

Imagine how confusing that is for somebody new?

And before anybody pulls the Meta card on me. This would also be true even in the ideal scenario where the Support/Control/DPS trinity existed. Because personal defense doesn’t seemingly have anymore relevancy on those two lost roles than it does DPS.

A support/DPS/control trinity already exists.

It’s just control is restricted by defiant to stop bad players from smashing CC skills off of cooldown, support isn’t gear reliant and DPS is something all classes can apply.

That was so absurd in that fractal run that must not be named. I’ve never seen it happen. Made me cringe.

It honestly amazes me that we can stack in the middle of the fire fields, get the seal down to like 5% then wipe, everyone wants to stack in the other corner instead, we wipe three times in a row and nobody even thinks for one second that you know what, maybe going in the middle isn’t that bad.

Inexperience doesn’t make me angry, but by god, unwillingness to learn does. And then Sir Pugsalot calling us both elitists, that was just gg.

I initially wanted to record an afk solo just for the hell of it so I resetted @ the bone wall and then ran to where the video starts and then began recording but I must have been a pleb and done something wrong because she just functioned normally.

so if there’s anything “off” in the video that’s probably it. It didn’t really change anything though, wardens still spawned badly and exploded on fire fields, I still got knocked in to barrels etc. etc.

On p2 solos I run behind the bone wall to stop her teleports but I can do it legit too, hence the video.
