Anyone else feel that the RNG is not random?

After going through 2 RNG bullkitten trying to get a specific skin and failing on both I’m starting to think whatever seed they are using in thier RNG algorithm is not producing very random results. Why do I think this you might ask? It become I’m getting the exact same items over and over again. Every time I do fractals my end chest 90% of the time if I get a ring, I get the barbed signet, not any of the other 20 rings. I also have a guildy who has gotten 6 fractal swords without getting any other fractal weapon. Just using the odds of 1/22 chance to get the sword if you RNG hits a fractal weapons, those odds are 1 in 100 million, and that is ignore the “5-15%” chance to get a fractal weapon drop. I have also witnessed to opening world boss chests and getting two of the exact same rare. With all the possibility of type and state and skin, I find such an occurrence extremely improbable and it has actually happen multiple times.

Has anyone else felt their drops are not feel very random.

After the fact happened it makes no sense to calculate the so called odds. The odds that your friend got 6 fractal swords is actually 100%, since you just told me so.

Improbable things happen.

Or check youtube for Derren Brown tossing heads 10 consecutive times.

Or more personal … the chance that you are Shadowmoon.7986 and I’m marnick.4305, is one in 100,000,000 or about the chance of one person getting 6 fractal swords. And yet it happened.

Screenshots do look darker than actual gameplay, that is why I use fraps instead. I also have a 32in LED LCD smart tv, but i can clearly tell that screenshots from game just turn out dark and bland when done with the in game option. Fraps does not look the same.

I can take a screenshot made using the “ingame” method and put it right next to the game running in windowed mode, and it looks exactly the same. I just double checked to be sure, actually.

Screenshot with in game option, then use fraps, see the difference.

If fraps gives a different result, then it’s not accurate. The in game option gives the exact image of what you actually see on your screen.

No, it doesn’t, that is the problem. Fraps overlay takes exactly what i see on screen, always has. In game screen is much different and does not look the same.

Calibrate your game. Those screenshots look horrible.

Getting Frustrated & Disappointed With GW2

The sheer ignorance … it hurts.

What to do at 80? How about having fun. That means doing the dungeons I like, event chains I like and the WvW I like. I hardly if ever repeat content on a daily basis but instead cater to what I feel like doing. That keeps me going for the time being.

I never expected this game to support a hardcore 8 hours a day 7/7 playstyle. That’s exactly why I bought this game …

But it does support hardcore playstyle, through FOTM and gear grind. And maybe that’s fun for some players?

Being hardcore for me simply isn’t an option, regardless of whether I want to because I want other things more. A life without a job, without a girlfriend, without sport and without friends isn’t fun for me. If you have even one of those, playing hardcore is no longer an option. And while all of that could be optional to some, to me it isn’t. Therefor, hardcore gaming is impossible for me.

Okay now you’re just being prejudice towards gamers as a whole….

False. I said I’m not one of those gamers who expect to play 8 hours a day, 7 days in 7. I also stated that it’s not my thing because doing so is incompatible with a real life. I won’t force anyone to have a life, that’s your own choice. I do, however, want to state that playing 8 hours a day isn’t possible if you have a regular life. That’s a physical fact.

Whether you define a regular, normal life as fun is another discussion entirely, one I will not start here. I’m against the norm too but that doesn’t make playing hardcore the default alternative.

I’m not sure why people think a game should entertain them for 2000 hours in a row at launch?

The same thing that was in GW1, or even in rpg like Diablo. Hold a carrot on a stick to the players.

I’ve seen people get burnt out on GW1 prophecies in weeks! It didn’t have a whole lot of content. My top 20 GVG guild died in less than 2 months.
The game I played for thousands of hours only existed after nightfall. In total I played about 2000 hours of GW1, which was enough to exhaust all content in 4 games, 50/50 GWAMM.

Weakest profession in the game, funny, Necro and Warrior would like to say hello to you on ALL of your points. They are the two most broken (trait, ability and utility wise) out of every class in the game, while rangers currently remain one of the strongest bunkers with little to no effort required. You have a PASSIVE pet that has MORE stats than a human can possibly get for no draw backs or downsides (i’ll refer you to GW1 where having a pet required a skill in order to even have the pet with you, which is how it needs to be in GW2). Please, ranger weakest profession? go read the necro/warrior forums and then do try and make this thread with a straight face.

Warrior is already the #1 profession in the game, outDPS all other professions by a significant amount. To state that warriors are in a bad state, saying so with a straight face, is beyond ignorant.

Warriors were buffed +100% on their already overpowered build last update. Seriously … Yes I’m talking strictly PVE, some people want a hint of balance in there too but alas …

PvE isn’t what the game is balanced around, and to be honest, who really cares if someone is imbalanced in PvE,

Let me repeat. Beyond ignorant. Some people want a hint of balance in PVE too.

It doesn’t have to be perfectly balanced, but it shouldn’t be as outrageous as it is currently either. The +100% signet buff was a PVE insult to every player who doesn’t like melee.

So please … split skills. Split every single trait and skill if necessary. I’m intelligent enough to learn both.

I would very much like to see my Norn guardian in a similar piece of swimwear, maillots, bandeaus etc. Whilst it’s a cosmetic item it would be far more desirable to enjoy the beaches of Southsun in appropriate attire as opposed to doing so in my Norn leather underwear. ;-) If this is not on the agenda for cosmetic items please consider it. Thank you.

I kinda agree, but I wonder if her kittenjob was done with magic or asura technology, because that’s not what natural kittens look like in a bikini top.

Everyone loves to hate on CEOs for some reason..

I would reason to say that’s b/c once a company gets to the level where a CEO is needed that company becomes more based around profits and efficiency than anything else. That includes not benefiting employees if it comes in any conflict with maximizing profits. While an employees might not receive a bonus on which they rely in slow times (or even laid off), you can bet your bottom dollar the CEO will get a large one, that tbh they don’t really need. Ofc there are exceptions, but for the most part…business as usual.

And that’s why I work for a company that’s not on the stock market. In the company I work for, everyone gets a bonus when profits are high. “Everyone” also means including interns and cleaning staff.

Furthermore, why do you presume it’s up to you to decide whether that CEO needs the bonus or not… Who gave you that right?

I love these amateur “graphics mods” these days.
They increase constrast to hilariously exaggerated levels, to the point the game looks like a cartoon, and call it “The Ultimate Super Mega kitten zor Hax of L33tskillz Graphix skillzors!”.

Agreed, most of the screenshots are over-saturated and quite ugly… people should learn to calibrate their monitor instead of using third party “mods”.
The only positive benefit I can see from that thing is the new anti-aliasing modes.

If only they’d look at these ugly screenshots on another computer … I sometimes wonder if these people see a yellow forum with orange banner or something …

If your old CRT is playing tricks on you … a brand new LCD panel doesn’t need to cost more than 100 euros these days.

It’s no different in real life when the average person complains about bankers/CEOs making millions, or when a corporation turns a profit. They’re just jealous that they don’t make that much money and instead of doing something about it, they just complain.

Or it could be that people just generally dislike greedy parasites who try to make money off the hard work of others and don’t produce or contribute anything to society themselves.

Hey you can’t blame certain people for exploiting the stupidity of others. Those so-called parasites only exist because people don’t know how to handle their money. Furthermore, a whole lot of those people you brand as greedy parasites actually contribute a lot to society, and are justly rewarded for it. A CEO giving a job to several thousand people has a honest right to earn a few million euros a year.

In-game it’s just because people don’t take the time and effort to properly price their goods on the TP. There’s intelligent people combing the gold that’s being wasted on the TP. I can’t and won’t blame them. Take this bag thing for example. Someone has to buy them and convert them into materials. If this “flipper” didn’t buy them, there’d be millions of bags sitting there at vendor price, which would be stupid. On the other hand, material prices would be through the roof which is equally silly. People selling bags are effectively paying flippers to convert those into materials. As such, they provide a valuable service to bag sellers and material buyers.

I wouldn’t expect “serious” changes. I’d expect some changes, a bit each month, until it’s done. Changing everything at once often leads to more problems than doing it a bit at a time.

Do you really expect forum posters to understand that? To forum people “balance” means “buff my profession and nerf all others”.

In my case it’s “buff my profession to match the most beloved” which happens to be warriors, in PVE btw.

That’s easy actually. Change deep strike to -20% signet cooldown and split signets for PVP with a 50% nerf (undoing the previous overbalance patch). That would bring warriors in line with other professions again.

T6 Dust Crisis

marnick.4305

As I have recently run out of my own supply of t6 dust this thread caught my eye. I have not farmed too extensively anywhere but I do have a simple question.

Sure the stationary location farming spots have been nerfed to be less effective than before, but can you not just farm the zone by moving around and still loot the dusts?

I see outrage because of a “spot” or two are not worth it anymore, but I can’t believe that dust is completely unobtainable anymore unless those spots become active again.

The problem is, that the answer to everything is : go farm CoF Path 1 .. and nobody seems to notice that there drops no dust .. and the more people that farm CoF the higher the prices of dust will go until it is maybe as high that you can earn the same money with farming in Orr than with doin CoF.

Problem solved? Supply and demand is really a beautiful thing. Rising dust prices will entice people to play Orr more.

Gem prices

in Black Lion Trading Co

In Europe tax is deducted from the sales price, so for 10€ in sales, A.net only gets about 8€. In US it’s the other way around, tax is added to the sales price, so for buying 10$ worth of gems, you actually pay 12$.

I must say, it is extremely annoying buying stuff in the US, because you’re always paying more than what’s written on the label. But that doesn’t take away the bad taste gaming companies leave in my mouth by being so stupid with it. It should be pretty easy to split those prices and allow for fair comparisons.

After decking several alts in exotics, full arah etc etc … you’re surprised with a burn out? What did you expect?

My main has 5/6 ascended and no alt has full exotic.

That said, every game has a point like this, and it being 10 months in is nothing less than spectacular. I was burned out on GW1 in less than 3 months after release, it was only with expansions that it became a brilliant game.
Same vein, GW2 has a solid foundation and a very good core experience. Steady growth and expansions will make it into a pristine gem.

TL;DR: take a break, take some time. Everything gonna be alright. Don’t you lose it, remember to take … time out for fun.

What skills do you miss the original?

I meant in GW2, skills that have changed from their original form.

Grenades.

No profession should ever endure a 50% damage nerf on an entire skillset. That’s just cruel.

Catering to Casuals is Ruining GW2

Skinner Box nonsense …

Wish people would stop throwing that term around as if it automatically validates their argument.

What if it actually validates the argument? Are people allowed to use valid arguments? Like how wanting gear grind is textbook skinner box behaviour?

I do not agree with your assumption that casuals don’t pay for gems. In my experience, casuals pay far more than so called hardcore people and I will continue to do so.

In your experience of who? You? Well thats one customer ANet are making happy then I guess. Unless you somehow have have access to the bank accounts of everyone in the game that plays less than one hour a day of course.

I used to be fairly “hardcore” and occasionally spend cash…now I am “casual” because the game is so bad and I refuse to spend anything.

Great, thanks for the meaningless observation.

It’s quite logical that casuals will spend more in the gem shop. Many hard-core players have no very few commitments and can sink 30, 40 hours a week into a game. People with real life commitments that can play a couple of hours a day max are people that will feel they’re falling behind. Since many have a job, they could conceivably have extra money to spend on a hobby…and people do spend money on entertainment. That’s a proven fact.

So if this is your entertainment (and this game is far better for casual than hard core players anyway), you’re more likely to buy gems to get some gold, or buy stuff that makes the game fun for you.

Hard core players can farm gold to buy gems for certain things. That’s harder for casual players.

Vayne, your general assumptions are outrageous. “Casuals will spend more, thats a fact”. How do you know? Casuals might view this game as a pass-time hobby, something to do for an hour each night, and then log off, not taking the game too seriously. Thus, why would they spend money on it? If I am a casual, and I only play for a short period each night or every other night, why would I want to invest a lot of money in something that I spend little time on, and possibly care little about? Youre entire arguement is insane and infact contradicts logic.

Because casuals usually have a reason they can’t play more than an hour. That reason is a magical moneymaking thing called a job. While casuals would love to spend hours in game, they have to make do with spending gems instead.

As I said before, people tend to spend money on hobbies, especially if they don’t play them often. I do races 2 or 3 times a year yet bought a racebike for 400 euros. I do rally few times a year with a car that cost a few thousand euros to buy. I spend money in a game I can play an hour a day, 3 days a week. That’s just how people tend to spend money on hobbies.

T3 Norn Heavy was the biggest letdown ever. 119g down the drain and all I ended up using was the leggings. Urgh.

Didn’t you preview it first?

Oh I did. And I liked it. But then I saw how much better it looked as concept art and it started to bug the crap out of me to the point where I couldn’t wear it!

I understand the logic behind the argument that these materials are virtual and therefore cannot so called “run out”. However, if you remember a previous example, the exotic staff “Final Rest” was also a virtual item, and 7 months into the game, it could not be found.

I’m sure most of us who followed the Final Rest debacle fondly remember how Anet says it’s a rare drop and that’s why it’s not found yet. Lo and behold, one shady patch later, Final Rest started dropping like nobody’s business.

1. it was a confirmed rare drop on a bugged event chest
2. in that patch several changes were openly confirmed
2.1 behemoth event was fixed so it ran every 2 hours instead of never (!)
2.2 drop rates for exotics were buffed
2.3 at least rares were guaranteed

All that was doubly confirmed by Colin as the source of all those sudden Final Rest sta kitten .

There’s nothing shady about that …

Anything that allowed me to loot items automatically as I ran past definitely qualifies for ‘go ahead, take my money’ status. Anyone who does a lot of WvW will open their wallet without thinking twice for such an item.

i do alot of wvw and ive started leaving loot on the ground until quite some time after the battle, im guessing ive lost a bit doing this as i wouldnt want to be disturbed when trying to fight, i would 100% rip my debit card out of my wallet and buy this

That’s funny, a fellow guildie and I were discussing something like this earlier, I would be all for buying something to loot for me .

This

In fractals there are weapons dropping with the very simple name “axe”, “sword”, “scepter”. Some people like them for the short name, don’t ask me why but that’s why those whites sell and not weapons with more complex names.
