This is guild wars 2. I have a lot of GW1 nostalgia, and I do want to see a ton of GW1 lore implemented. Some things, however, are not on my prio list. The original dances are part of the not important things.

What I find amusing is that everyone just goes along with the idea that there should even be a need to farm, instead of mechanics being implemented to naturally have players acquire what they need through normal game play.
People farm because Anet wants people to farm. Keeps people in game.
HUH! Are you serious? Just the opposite is true.
Really? What would you like to put forth to support your statement? There have been no statements from anet that say they are against normal farming (quite the opposite), there are mechanics in game that support the idea of farming, there is a complete stat for armor that supports farming. The only thing negative instituted in game is DR and from the statements directly from anet devs it’s in there to directly fight bots, not normal farmers.
Then why has EVERY farming spot been nerfed to little and even NO DROPS in all farmed areas(except CoF that is) and please don’t say because of botters that plain ludicrous. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Anti-farm_code and http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/ArenaNet:Developer_updates/20070420
I haven’t heard of a single farming spot being closed. I have seen and heard them fix bugs that people were using to farm unlimited spawns. There is nothing to support anyone saying they are getting zero drops. I’m sure they get plenty of drops, just not exactly what they want.
Thanks for your two links to Guild Wars 1, which have absolutely nothing to do with this game. Plus I looked at both of those a while back during another topic. If you follow the link sources to where the developers actually comment, they blatantly say they have nothing against farmers, and they want people to be able to farm.
Edit: Farming is not standing in one place with a macro, as far as I’m concerned that needs to be removed from the game.
No farming spots were closed only nerfed in the way of drops have been dialed way back or cut off, have you checked out the Pent/Shelter area in the past 2-3 weeks as compared to lets say 2 months ago? If so you can’t miss the FACT that known mobs that used to drop loot no longer do.
The two links are indeed from GW and if done there(albeit minamally there) it has very evidently been carried over to GW2 with a vengeance and I blame that part on NCsoft not ANET. There was a statement made by ANET that farming was to be discouraged.
I agree the standing in one place with actions using macros is just wrong, this I don’t do when farming, I am all over the world map in efforts to not be hit by the DR.How little you know. DR has been a part of Guild Wars since 3 months after release. I’ve seen your type of posts 7 years ago in GW1 threads about DR. Nothing new to see here.
If you thought you could farm in an a.net game, you were clearly wrong. Go play any other NCsoft game. In lineage and aion you can farm to your heart’s content. In Guild Wars, you can’t. That’s a good thing imho.Get a grip. You’ve got no idea what you’re talking about. Vayne may have forgotten a lot about GW1, but my memory for that game is almost encyclopedic.
I never said anything about there being no DR in Guild Wars and I was a farming fool with 13 mules all maxed in gold as well as my bank all from farming. Man, what are you on? Show me ONE POST you mentioned. You haven’t got a clue of who I am. Encyclopedic GW memory, yeah right, step slowly away from whatever your indulging in because it is scrambling your brain. Have a great day.
And yet, just playing the game usually turned out to be more effective than farming. Funny isn’t it.
Actually I don’t farm because it scrambles my brain. I can’t do it for any longer than it takes to master the build (10 seconds) It’s boring, not fun and silly. That’s not why I play games. I’d rather do engaging content, which, by definition, farming is not.

I think it’s more what players are use to, this genre has evolved so much and players today are far less forgiving as they were in the past, when the expectations of things common, like in this example an advance release on patch notes aren’t done in the same timely manner as one is come to expect from titles of similiar genres one tends to think why? and their answer was something like things can change until the last minute? that to me is just saying the content isn’t in a readily released state, it’s not really a good way to work in my opinion though.
They should finalise the release, send out the notes and spend the remaining time polishing.
And that’s exactly why notes are only released once the patch is released.

Casual, friendly, stale and soon…i fear what comes next for Guild Wars 2 and all the players who still put hope within this game.
Phrased as if casual and friendly are dirty words. Way to insult 80% of the entire gaming population.
Why aren’t there any challenging dungeon?
Aray, fotm30+, HotW, CoE
Why aren’t there any challenging jumping puzzles?
Obsidian sanctum, clock tower, skipping stones
Why aren’t there any challenging events?
Temple events, guild bounty tier 3
It’s not that this content isn’t challenging … in fact, a lot of the content takes a while to master, because they require intelligence (a rare good may I add, only 50% of the population has an IQ higher than 100). However, once you beat it, you’ve mastered it.
And that’s the whole clue … It isn’t artificially hard because of gear gating behind timesink raids, but rather because you’ll have to learn to beat content. But mastering content is a one time thing, and that’s what you’re complaining about. That’s a brilliant design.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
To each his own. While some playstyles are objectively slower to execute, that doesn’t necessarily need to have an impact on overall play speed. In pve it usually doesn’t matter at all except for specific content.
How about a foul-mouth title for every censored word in chat, that’s sticky too. Oh wait, that’s a rightful ban.

Engi: overal +30% dps buff
Warrior: -50% damage nerf across the board
Guardian: boon nerf to be on par with engi/ele
Ranger: bow speed buff
Ele: health buff
Necro: dps buff
Mesmer: is fine as it is
thief: stealth must be a shimmer instead of full invisibility.
Overall changes:
- combo field buff
- pet inherit master stats
- personal debuff stacks

Don’t bother, i’ve made multiple threads and posted in multiple forums begging the devs to please give us an explanation on how guild comms are supposed to function. They have completely ignored the issue. I don’t think they actually thought about it much before they implemented it and they are now scrambling to come up with some reasonable explanation as to why we should grind 6 weeks for 1 item.
If it required near-constant play for 6 weeks straight, grind would have been the right word. Given that it requires 15 minutes a week, grind is a dishonest term for the argument your trying to make. I’m giving you a second chance.

I guess I should ask more directly… how does gear tell you that I am built for group play?
If your gear contains an inkling of MF, you’re not built for group play.
That’s just one example, others really depend on your class.
That leads directly tho the only two things necessary on a /inspect:
- MF
- AR
all others are not relevant and lead to elitism.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
If that particular gear is destroying diversity – then yes, that’s what I said. Except for the warrior part.
When there is an optimal gear setup there will be no diversity among people who know how to play and want to extract the maximum of their class’ potential. There will always be an optimal gear setup.
Except that finding a group of elitists takes far longer than it takes for a group of people to complete the content with less popular builds.
Not to mention the lack of drama by not going with elitists. It’s pretty refreshing.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
It’s just beyond me as to why it has to be a last minute thing.
It’s perfectly logical to me, but that’s probably because I’m an oldskool gamer back when notes literally came with the patch exe itself.
Some people cry for a PTS, others whine for early notes. I think notes just have to come with the patch itself. In the end, it’s still up for change until the second it goes live.

Because builds don’t equal skill. And in PVe, even if my build isn’t a “standard” build, it works quite well for me.
In Guild Wars 1, people used to ask me to ping my build, after which they wouldn’t accept me in their groups. So I’d go solo the content with heroes, come back and wave at them, trying to build their group.
A lot more people out there think they have a clue than actually have one.
Same. It’s so funny to see people looking for elitist groups only. We wanted to do COF123 with guildies and needed one more. A mesmer begged for invite and when he saw engi, ranger, necro and guardian, he left. He was still there after our 3 runs.

Events such as the Queensdale troll have to be explicitly triggered by a player or it just won’t happen. A lot of events are part of a chain, which is why it’s called “dynamic” because chains can go both ways.
The big clue is to surf event chains: once you complete an event, stay around for a minute. More often than not, a new one will start. They can really take you around a zone in a big trek, sometimes completing multiple hearts in the process.

Also if there aren’t a significant amount of players that like loot farming, why are games like Diablo 1, 2 and 3, Borderlands 1 and 2, Torchlight 1 and 2 Titan Quest, Skyrim and a plethora of others so popular and they are VERY popular games..
In Diablo 1, 2, and 3, Torchlight 1 and 2, farming was not happening the way you describe it. You weren’t staying on the same spot, killing the same respawning mobs over and over and over. If you wanted to do that, you had to restart the game and fight your way to the same mobs.
Furthermore, the diablo series was known for farming. Torchlight is a diablo clone so I imagine that to be a hardcore farm game too. Guild Wars is known for its LACK of farming. That’s what the entire game series has been about for over 7 years. People who don’t know that have only themselves to blame. It’s not like this information wasn’t available before launch …

Given that GW2 is the only MMO that’s compatible with having a real life, literally the only one, and given that there’s a huge portion of the population that has both a job and kids, GW2 is here to stay. There’s just no other MMO currently on the market that caters to people with responsibilities on that scale.
It’s the kind of people who have half an hour to play if they’re lucky. In GW2 that’s enough to get a laurel and make meaningful progress. In other games you don’t even have a group yet.
Oh no trust me there are far far better ones designed just for that purpose with better economies and better rewards where it doesn’t take 16 months to gear the highest gear. I’m playing them right now as we speak. That’s the other thing, the economy is the absolute worst in this game compared to every other game I’ve ever played, Nowhere else have I ever seen a steady inflation in prices by hundreds of a percent continuously due to loot being terribly restricted to the point of craziness.
Both ectoplasm and precursors are lower than ever before. Where is this inflation you’re talking about. Oh right that’s a lie.
Facts don’t lie. The economy in this game is very stable. Furthermore, getting the full exotic takes a week after 80, or a month if you need/want ascended kitten.
When you no longer have rewards for playing what’s the point if you’re not an RPer? That’s what games are for, to give the feeling that only a carrot on a stick can fulfill. Even with the insignificant rewards from the minigames in these types of mmos.
Cosmetics work just as well, and for an MMO it’s the superior model imho. The perpetual carrot-on-a-stick gear grind is for people who need games to prove their worth, but that’s not me. I’ve got nothing to prove, especially not in videogames.
Normal people just want a game to have fun. I’m fine with playing 16 months for that elusive legendary which doesn’t give me a stat boost. But stat grind … I shudder at the mere thought.

I realize that everyone has different ideas of what would be cool and such, but for me swimwear in GW2 is a waste of time.
The amount of effort to put swimwear in the game far exceeds it’s practical use. Sure, there are a few people who will buy the outfits and stand on the beach for a laugh, but in reality these “gimmicks” have a short life.
I am also personally against the idea of modern swimwear in the game. Whenever I go to Southsun Cove, and see tourists wearing modern style swim suits, it breaks immersion. It has been said a few times that IF swimwear was to be added, it should be old timey style.
Search for 1900’s – 1920’s swimwear in Google for an idea of what I mean. I think it would better fit the look and feel of GW2.
In the end though, I would like to see them put more effort into proper town clothing, and leave the modern swimsuit to Second Life
The 1400’s – 1500’s swimwear are the proper look for the era, however that would make southsun a naturist island. However some people can’t accept complete nudity in videogames, therefor swimwear has to be catered to the most narrow-minded …

I really hope ANET does consider more farms. Their vision in the manifesto was something to appeal to everyone, but right now they’re not really appealing much to hardcore group and solo farmers.
Removing farming really does cater to everyone. You think you want farming, but you really want no farming. Some people claim they really like working in a bottle factory, but in reality that’s not true. They like the income, not the job.
I’d much rather be paid for doing what I’d do anyways all day long, and that’s what I’d like in videogames too. In real life that’s not always possible, but please, don’t let videogames devolve into factory simulators.

The advantage of no sub for GW2 for my family, is it doesn’t cost us $60 a month to play. (yes we have 4 players in the home).
We don’t play standard F2P MMOs, because of the game breaking restrictions most of those impose
So for us GW2 B2P is perfect with no downside.
Edit: Also you can buy GW2 as a gift, unlike sub based MMOs : Here is a gift ,oh and btw you have to pay $15 a month
It’s 15 dollars a month. Yes 15 dollars lol.
Which is quite the amount. There’s not many things I’d sub 15 dollars a month for, unless they’re legally or de facto required. Videogames are not required.
People often make it seem like 15 euros a month is not a whole lot, and it isn’t. But it really is when you look at what it is: 180 euro’s a year. And that’s suddenly a whole lot of money for a videogame. Not that I don’t want to pay, but at least give me a choice and let me have something for it that’s not merely access rights.

This would have worked at lot better of utility meant more in this game. That was sort of supposed to be the idea. Those who have utility would have more value than those who don’t, and they sacrifice either armor or health or both for that. Mesmers are a reasonable example.
They’re great in all formats of the game but they have the lowest armor and the middle health. But not too many people complain about this because mesmers are pretty kitten ed handy to have around.
In order for the game to work “as intended”, other professions that have lower health/armor need to be made more “handy”.
Remove defiant as a mechanic in dungeons. Literally all that’s needed to fix this.
Other fixes would be nice too, like personal debuff stacks, buffing combos and tweaking with condition damage multipliers, but at the very least, defiant has to go.

The next biggest flaw is that any player with enough gold can corner an entire market and blow prices up into completely absurd numbers.
If there are 100 of a particular item available for 40 gold each, a player could easily come along and buy every last one of those items and relist them for 400 gold each.
You’re litereally saying it’s easy to have 4000 gold. If that’s so, how’s 400 gold an issue. It’s ten times as easy to get …
What happens next?
If the item is actually worth 40 gold, the person cornering the market will be undercut and lose his investment. If the item was actually worth 400 gold, the original people were selling it for far too few, basically scamming themselves. Eventually this would have happened anyways.
Cornering a market is only possible at the correct pricepoint for a particular item, otherwise people simply undercut you with big margins.

Sure that’s one way to look at it. But currently there’s a handful of MMOs on the market. All other MMOs cater to hardcore people primarily, while GW2 is the only one catering specifically to people with limited time.
So while people could differ in opinion, they should consequently differ in game too, instead of trying to destroy the game we all love by making it into a wow-clone.
