Every leaderboard tracking a video games’ stats is utterly biased and useless.
It’s not a welcome feature by any stretch of the imagination and is just taking up work force and bandwidth as far as I’m concerned. Not even common sports and leagues are able to maintain a performance based leaderboard, what makes you think a team of mere developers are going to do it?
Top scorer comes to mind. Most penalty saves. Those are two standard statistics for every soccer player.

It takes me less time to finish the new dailies than it takes for my fiancée to watch her 20 minutes daily soap opera. I don’t see the problem.
Which you can record and watch at another time if it so happens you were not capable of watching the show at a specific day. Not possible here.
I don’t see the problem. 5 silver, 4.5k karma, a laurel and a coin. Boohoo big deal if I miss one of those. I rarely finish more than 4 dailies a week anyways. Yesterday I got my first pristine fractal ring. If you play casual, you’ll really appreciate the pacing of this game.

Stepping back into video games, there are a lot of games which lack “levels” rigidly defined. Upthread I acknowledged Monster Hunter by Capcom. However there aren’t many RPGs I’ve played where level is irrelevant entirely. (Not “none” but “not many”.) At least one took the other route and said “the level counter has four digits, have fun”.
Most single player games don’t have levels. Fable is a very good example where you still have progress but no real levels.
And full circle . . . sit down with a notebook sometime and try to figure out how to do an MMO with no levels but a clear progression system. It’s not as easy as it sounds, or there would be tons more on the market. I don’t just mean “running right now” I mean created at all.
Ye I’ve done after my first WoW burnout. I basically came to the conclusion that instead of level > gear grind I would basically make it all into shallow gear progression. In GW2 terms I would make the rare > exotic > ascended steps meaningful, as in taking about 2 hour day per item per step.
Secondly, I would lump most stats together in one item, which has the most clear way to improve, so people would get meaningful stats after improving that one item, this item should be relatively easy to get, in one 8 hour day. Other items would be incremental improvements instead of build defining.
This has the added benefit only one new item, with a relatively easy path, would be required to make a completely new build.
GW2 also has the skill challenges, which by itself would have been enough as a levelling mechanic, by making those skill challenges reward the 70 trait points.
This would also make true on the “our entire game is endgame” promise. Right off the bat in Queensdale, you’re building your main weapon, which could be a sword for a warrior, ring for an elementalist or circlet for necromancer. That one item defines your character. Seems far more heroic to me.
Levels are to pve what capture points are to spvp, a horribly broken mechanic that somehow comes back every time.

I agree, and I’m not sure what we’re discussing now… What you’ve done is point out the problem with levels in GW2, not the original function of levels in D&D. Part of the problem you’ve shown is with the high numbers in modern games (level 80 etc.) I mentioned that in my first reply – it’s another reason these high numbers are bad IMO.
Well to make the circle to DnD which basically invented levels… it was used because it’s too much work to change relevant attributes after every levels. Because of that, it was lumped together as “experience”, making the changing of sheets a once-a-day instead of once-a-battle thing. Since videogames aren’t based on pen and paper, the only really valid argument in favor of levels as a gating mechanism disappears.

If the other team doesn’t organize a counter-squad, they deserve to be picked off one by one. It is a very legitimate tactic in a warlike environment to cut off reinforcements. Mind your supply lines, more than one general learned that on the road to Moscow.

Capes? where are the capes?
Capes are hidden behind bombs. Since GW2 lost all it’s miners to sergeants, we can’t have nice drapes anymore

In Lord of the Rings, after almost 80 years of combat experience, Aragorn is almost killed by, of all things, a worg. A typical mob for a lvl1 zone in many games. That’s how it should be.
Firstly, that (horrid) scene was added by Peter Jackson. It’s not in the books, and doesn’t belong in the story except as a pretty arrogant director fabrication. Secondly, just because wargs in “many games” are Level 1 mobs doesn’t mean anything. In LoTR they were always nasty and dangerous beasts capable of ripping anyone apart, so it doesn’t translate at all.
Wargs by definition are ferocious, nasty and dangerous beasts, yet in virtually no campaign setting will you find any above level 5. A DnD warg is challenge rating 2, a dire warg maybe 4 if you push his stats a bit.
Don’t forget that “commoners” in games are usually implied to be far less powerful than any lvl1 character, who’s already exceptional by birth. Even most adventurers never pass lvl5 and by lvl 10 in dnd or lvl50 in GW2 you’re considered almost godlike.
Even if you don’t accept the scene in the movie, it still shows a creature that most experienced adventurers would have a lot of trouble with. It is such a ferocious lvl2 animal, that even Aragorn has a problem with it. Now tell me why that isn’t accurate, regardless of the books.
When is the last time you grappled an alligator or lion? Same level of ferocity, same level in MMO games. Last time I checked, Queensdale had quite a few alligators.
If you’re going to put Tolkien wargs into the MMO setting, they would be high level mobs. It doesn’t affect your point, but it’s a bad example. Your point has already been addressed more than once in posts above (tl;dr many people disagree for various good reasons, but we get why you say that).
As I’ve pointed out, a lvl5 animal is already pretty high all things considered, and since a warg is not supernatural, it wouldn’t require a very high level. That’s why warg-like creatures can be found in any zone, starting at lvl1, despite being ferocious and dangerous things.
Only thing I’m saying is, regardless of experience, dangerous creature remains dangerous. After years of experience, even big game hunters wouldn’t consider catching a mere lion easy. For Jef Geeraerts (RL writer), that was still a big achievement.

1. Don’t downgrade my level and allow me to one-shot lower level mobs. In this way, I would actually feel more powerful as I leveled and would feel like my work is being rewarded.
No. If anything, the more you downgrade, the more serious the effect should be, so as not to trivialize content. Keeping the whole world relevant is important, one-shot lower level mobs is terrible old mmo design that needs to disappear forever.

Yeah unfortunately I have a full bank of fractal relics with nothing really useful to spend them on anymore, and they still keep piling up as I farm for the bloody essences, 250 for an essence does sound good.
I would recommend converting them to skill points. 50 skill points make for a mystic weapon which earns you a nice bit of gold. 150 skill points makes you the anomaly which is a very expensive weapon.

I made this suggestion before launch, considering how elitists in WoW discriminate on achievement scores. I’ve seen what this can do to a community. Even in GW2 I’ve seen the first 3000+ lfm posts. Given that dailies are equivalent to /age, this was always a problem waiting to explode.
Time to remove daily/monthly from the achievement equation.

I want to ask OP to come with me at dredge part to show me how to survive at lvl 38-40 without stealth or cheats.
also without dying on switches and obviously without mechanics not accessible to all profession (i.e. stealth that is a far worse abuse used there we all know why).
Then we can proceed to try cliffside Killing both room (its doable).
Lets do it and just post here the result
You can PM me….
If you don t accept or we fail (i won t be a burden for sure) i ask you to stop with this nonesense…dredge is already one of the most annoying fractals…..
Rewards have been nerfed and frankly sounds like what happened to AC of some players complaining that a lvl 35 dungeon was too easy………If you can’t do it legit than you don’t deserve to do it at all. What will you do on those when they do get fixed? Whine about not being able to do it anymore? Using exploits is preventing people to learn encounters and improve their skill. You are actually hurting the playerbase by doing it in the long run. So instead of justifying your exploit use why don’t you learn and improve yourself instead.
as said stop talking and show you can
Or maybe you cannot…..More Facts less words…the forum is already to full of Forum-pros that fails in game.
Being one of the most dedicated fotm palyers you won t convince me of this nonsense.
I think OP and all Others complaining just use different EXPLOITS they don t even know are such…or are on a low level and cannot understand how its not possible tanking 5-20 mobs dealing 10.000 each attack standing still on platforms.
Prove me wrong or stop complaining….
P.S: about hurting playerbase…
I want to thank people like you for friends leaving….
They were casual players who liked to run some dungeons sometimes…..TO HAVE FUN !
after they “revamped” AC due to players like you they just drop being because they saw another low level activity taken away from them.So think who is hurting playerbase between us WHO self entitle to say people how to play the game without possibly the proper knowledge….or people explaining why people use workaround to PROBLEMATIC and unfun parts…
Considering rewards also.
This post is almost unintelligible. But the conclusion is fairly obvious. The problem aren’t casuals but rather the self-proclaimed pros. Every time a “hardcore” leaves the game, it becomes a little bit better.

Probably even harder for the key turners… Oh god, could you imagine key turning, not dodging and using a 2 button mouse?
In WoW I could. In fact I did while watching TV shows on the second screen, or actually farming with my 55 monk (hb+ps is every 8 seconds which is enough to cast 3 shadow bolts. The 1.5s rooted cast is enought to cast hb+ps)
In GW2 … that’s not really possible.

The whole point of the unique rings is that min-maxing your stats would require 100 passion flowers for a versatile infusion. This tiers up the gear progression:
1/ Exotic
2/ ascended + versatile simple infusions
3/ ascended + 1 defensive + 1 offensive infusion. Probably one stat isn’t 100% perfect for you
4/ ascended + 2 identical infusions. Perfect min-max. Requires 1 versatile
I don’t think that’s bad. The RNG however can/should be worked with.

Levels are redundant at all. In MMOs it is claimed that you have to grow into your character, getting an instant max level makes you somehow a bad player because you don’t know your class. Yet when I first learned chess, I was told the rules about all pieces and thrown right into the action. With counter-strike I can buy the AK and AWP in the first game I play. Why is this somehow not possible in MMO games?
The only reason I can make up, is that MMO players are somehow very bad gamers overall and require exponentially more practice than FPS or chess players. I don’t believe that and therefor levels have to go.
Im not gonna argue with you there seeing as how many Pugs ive been with wipe at kholer in AC despite his level of ease.
You’re not arguing because you know I’m right. Kholer is like a chess puzzle involving castling or en passant. It can take a while to figure out such puzzles even though you know all the rules. I never die on Kholer anymore, but the first few times were really difficult. You should help newbies instead of looking down at them.

Depends on what you need it for
- quick levelling? Buy gems > crafting materials > levels
- help with missions > wiki
- help farming items? buy gems > buy items
- help gathering influence for guild? buy gems > buy the house a round of drinks
- need tips for dungeons? wiki
Frankly, there’s nothing in the guides that won’t work better by either going to the wiki or buying gems. The only real boon to the guide is having it offline, ie in the bus or in class.

Logitech G600
it is awesome
all others will bow before it eventuallyConsidering the G600 is basically Logitech stealing Razer’s design, I’d much rather use the original than the clone. By using a G600 you actually bowed before Razer, not Logitech.
Except the clone is so much superior than the original.
1. The mouse allows for other grip style instead of a claw grip.
2. The buttons are shaped differently so the learning cycle is so much faster. There’s zero need to put learning stickers on the buttons because the feel of it tells you what button is.
3. The mouse wheel has left and right tilt
4. There’s a ring finger button that can be used as a modifier key. If you map it as ctrl and push the face 1 button, it becomes ctrl + 1. There’s also a separate mode button that’ll change the mouse to 3 different new set of macros. That’s easily 5 to 6 times the number of mapping you can do vs the naga.
5. Multi color profile on the mouse is standard
6. It’s better built the thumb button paint does not rub off after 6 months. There’s no double click issue like the naga.
7. Doesn’t require a logon razer profile to use it.
All your points are invalid for following reasons:
1. Never had any problems with grip on the Naga. Maybe that’s me.
2. Didn’t use the learning stickers, Naga layout is pretty good. I don’t even know why they were in the box, apart from Naga being the first ever mouse to have so many buttons. Maybe to counter one-button mac users or something.
3. OK kinda valid but I actually don’t use my mouse wheel at all except for zooming
4. I’m playing GW2, not WoW
5. Being pretty is irrelevant for something that’s primarily a pointing device. While a Ferrari is red (and only red), it’s primary function is to drive fast.
6. All mice have button problems eventually, given the amount of clicks I do daily it’s a wonder any mouse survives more than a year. To stick that onto Razer is dishonest.
7. Playing Fable doesn’t require a Guild Wars acount to use. I don’t see how being logged in to use an MMO mouse is an issue. If you’re offline, you’re not using the mouse. If you’re playing the MMO you bought the mouse for, you’re online. What’s the problem?

My routine is to hunt a few big bosses (temple timer), do the daily and hit a few events. If I have the spare time, a fotm10 run. While it doesn’t give me huge income, it adds up steadily.
Check your bank, there’s probably a ton of crafting materials you won’t ever use, some of them can net you quite some money. Just selling the tier one gems and tokens gives me a few gold every few weeks. Once I’m done with crafting I’ll just sell out everything for a pile of gold. The value in there is about as much as my precursor.

I would very strongly recommend against “game design” courses and instead go for more programming oriented stuff. Any programming course has games as example projects because they’re just so clear to make As such, anyone graduating in IT is expected to have basic knowledge of game design. A master in game design therefor shows a lot of redundancy (imho)

Fyrebrand, I do agree with most of your post, except I don’t have any respect for people with hangovers. I’ve done lanparties with friends, my fiancée doesn’t force me on her show. I would consider I have a pretty balanced life.
I’m pretty much a lifestyle gamer first and foremost, and that won’t change. The only thing that changes is my life, and reality dictates that the 10+ hours I used to spend on videogames aren’t realistic anymore. I do not mind I was hardcore when I could, I do not mind I’m not hardcore when real life takes priority.
On the other hand, a few free days and part of every bonus are spent on videogames in a year
Moderation is key, binging is sometimes fun but shouldn’t be a habit.

Yesterday I figured out the meaning of hardcore gaming.
In the evening, my fiancée told me she needed a few hours of sauna. I said sure, quit the game and we drove to the sauna.
Hardcore would have been to tell her I had to kill some dragon with some guys on the other side of the evening for 4 more hours.
How many of you would have told your significant others to stay home because of a videogame? This question is at the core of hardcore gaming, and why most GW2 players don’t want things like raids, trinity and the like. Even a Guild Bounty only takes half an hour for a skilled team.
Just out of sheer curiosity… does she not have a license? To me that time she is out enjoying her sauna is the more appropriate time to play, rather than when she is home.
Assumes I don’t like going to the sauna. Assumes a group of 4 random puggers is more important to me than my fiancée. Both times you’re wrong.

35 to 44 — 62k
45 to 54 — 64k
55 to 65 — 56kwhich of these groups do you think has the most disposable income? I think the 35 to 44 and the 45 to 54.

Meta gaming is the definition of hardcore :p If you just play the game you’re not very hardcore :p
Hardcore is going on forums, hardcore is researching things out of game. Hardcore players enable casuals with their teaching and help, generally, that seems to be the biggest use of these tools. Hardcore people write the wikis.
Hardcore is about dedication, a professional isn’t any less dedicated than an amateur. Money doesn’t come into this. Donations are very different to a salary.
Donations however aren’t any different from people buying your product.

Necro and Rangers are rare above level 45, but highly common at low levels. I see a lot of these classes (especially Ranger) at lower level but they drop off quite a bit at higher levels.
Engineers seem to be as rare as it gets at every level range.
My ranger had a severe drop in damage output around lvl 50, wasn’t funny. I’m currently 61 and done with him. He’s just a craft alt now.

Well you have to be pretty into a game to make the websites and machinimas etc that advertise and support the game.
Without gw2lfg for example there would be more frustrated people :p
Given that gw2lfg uses advertisement and accepts donations, this guy isn’t hardcore, he’s just doing his job. That’s the way I see it. People who work 9 to 5 aren’t hardcore, they’re doing a job.
The core gamers create the guilds and communities that make a game more than the sum of its parts imo. I think that’s why overly casual games are more “souless” to me
And yet gw2lfg is most enabling for the casuals who can’t spend hours shouting lfg in LA. While I do respect some of the larger guild and event leaders, I still don’t see those as particularly hardcore since most they do is meta-gaming. Again, many of those people accept donations.
To be hardcore, you should be playing the game itself for many hours, pursuing in-game goals, without any monetary payment. Like how Michael Jordan is just doing his job, while the kid on the field playing basketball for hours on end is hardcore. It’s a distinction but important imho.

Being a hardcore gamer usually means that set player / group of people play games for money , have sponsors , they live and breathe the games they play hence the notion “Play Hard , Go Pro” – MLG hint for ya’ll.
It’s a dying age for hardcore/pro gamers anyway since the community and the new generation wants everything served on a silver platter with no effort whatsoever you can call it “The Entitled Generation” if you will.
That’s like saying everyone who doesn’t play soccer like Beckhamm or Ronaldo is a casual football player. Everyone who doesn’t earn money like Michael Jordan to be a casual Basketball player and anyone not winning like Kasparov being a casual chess player. That’s just nonsense.
Most players never play for money nor have sponsorships. These players don’t want everything on a silver platter and neither are they entitled. The only thing they ask is to have achievable goals for the vast majority of players, and an even playing field in pvp.
