I’m actually on strike until they are fixed, because the lack of balancing and bug fixing is, quite frankly, embarrassing to me. I’m not quite sold on HoT.

AoE is definitely one of the strongest counters, but heavily overestimated on how easy it is to just cleave the minions. Burst AoE on long CDs, which is what Necros have, isn’t what counters MM, you have too much healing/defense, too many ways to counter their AoE. Bone Minions are just blown up before they die, Flesh Golem can be charged out of the AoE and won’t return until it’s done pulsing, and your other two minions are ranged.

Reaper is certainly stronger because of Greatsword, and the ability to use Gravedigger and general AoE. But wells are a really weak setup against MM, because of how easily you can avoid their effects and have maybe 1 ability forced onto CD (Flesh Golem, or a ranged minion), while they have 2+ forced, and now they have no burst to kill you.

The builds that would deal with MM really well are engis with kits, elementalist, Shout Reaper, and other builds that bring a ton of incidental AoE on really short CDs, not Wells necro with a massive CD burst that can be avoided really easily and then lack the kind of pressure needed to down the MM before their CDs are back.

BM/DM/SR Wellmancer vs MM goes completely in the other way in a straight up 1v1, from my experience. Unless I have never ever fought a decent MM (plausible) or I am better than I think (plausible). I have seen a MM successfully win a 2v1 against some teammates, then at another time I walked right over him.

I control where your minions go as much as you do and I’ll use them to heal myself. Position myself in a way that breaks LoS and I can pull all but the Wurm, and your Golem will just run into a wall trying to escape. My LF generation is better since I can take Spectral Armor and your minions will always attack me when I have it up. There’s basically nothing you have worth dodging besides Golem and Warhorn 4, and no condi pressure (my only weakness).

Do Wellmancers just throw down all their Wells at once against you? That’s pretty silly for an attrition fight.

This idea came from watching the Scrapper stream and how they virtually poop out fields, then I started thinking about Ele field spam and I realized there is no real counterplay. So, I’m proposing a single change to Well of Darkness…

Well of Darkness:
-Blind (3 seconds)
-Number of Targets: 5
-Duration: 5 seconds
-Radius 240
-Combo Field: Dark
-Range: 900
-Unblockable
-Prevents enemies from interacting with Combo Fields inside radius

Small change, but I think it’s in the right direction.

After watching it more closely I actually have a pretty simple solution to fighting your build:

Constant Poison, Weakness, and Cripple/Chill uptime. Trade his “tankiness” for some Weakness. Cripple would lessen the need for gap closers, the only fight you lost was because he got a Gravedigger off on you, funny because he pulled you with GS5 and followed up with… Autoattack??? Also breaking LoS would have changed things, he just stood out in the open and took whatever you had to give. Poison uptime is self-explanatory but Chillblains + RS4 after either your Staff2 or Sword2 would’ve done wonders. I’d also play around with baiting dodges against you, RS5 for the obvious animation → jump dodge to meet your dodge and then RS4.

That doesn’t even cover utilities or heals. His minions were basically useless except for some Knockdowns from Golem (which he didn’t follow up with anything but AA. sigh).

I’ll comment more later, but simply you played him all game and he used a poor build for going against a Well based Chrono. It actually worries me how long he held out considering how much better of a player you looked.

Since there are ways to make skills unblockable, we should also have ways of knocking people out of Evades, right?

I would like a Grandmaster that gives Thieves a 50% reduction on Reveal, but untraited Reveal gets a duration increase. Maybe if you have that fighting with an equally game-changing trait we can get Thieves out of this single purpose position they have. Besides the point maybe, but opinions like to be told.

Hi!

Sadly, I think that LB rangers will still be very difficult to deal with as a reaper.

Well at least we can get rid of their rapid fire burst while also gapclosing (Deaths charge being projectile destruction and all).

Maybe it’s just me, but I find Rangers super easy and Engies as a counter to my necro.

Necros are only good against bad DD eles. No serious DD ele is going to put high burn stacks onto a signet necro. They can outheal our dagger damage, and blind us faster than DS AA. The only way a necro can win against a DD ele is if that ele is bad.

You need to watch Nos kitten on top tier Cele Eles all day. Necro has the tools to beat the beast.

Erm, Supposedly, Nos did tests against Phantaram. It went 50/50. That suggests it’s not a direct counter. It has all the tools to match up to it, which is a little sad if you ask me.

Why is that sad to you?

I think he meant that it’s sad because the best build for taking on Ele’s is only 50/50.

Anyways, with an extra F5 and F6 it’s important to reduce cooldown on attunement swaps as a baseline so that people aren’t forced into particular rotations. Maybe Since Blinding Ashes is going to be baseline we can make a new Grandmaster with better passive play? Something like “When disabled/chilled/immobolized/looked at in a mean way, gain 150 Power for 5 seconds (5.01 second internal cooldown). Might is 10% more effective.”

Not sure what you’re smoking but…

Buff d/d ele pls. Make blinding ashes baseline. Reaper a threat pls nerf. We don’t like chill, need more burns . Also pls make Vampire runes baseline so we can use Hoelbrak. That’s all we want. Don’t worry we will not ask for stealth yet.

Ele needs 4th Utility slot since it doesn’t have two weapons. Engie doesn’t because kits are pretty much weapons.

Sits down at brainstorming session for engr spec… time goes by, decisions are being made, we settle on a hammer as the weapon.

dev1: ‘wat kinda skills could we use w/ a hammer’
dev2: ‘i dunno, thor kinda lightning be kool’
dev1+every1: ‘i lik it, we’ll fit dat in therr’

Yeah, I can see wanting to tie in some sort of ‘thor’ theme to capitalize on current movie success, but these aren’t really in line with Thor either. These are almost branching out from a more magical standpoint. I know Thor can summon lightning strikes, but most iterations I’ve seen (which are few, I admit) have him at least gesture towards the target with his hammer. Engie Hammer 5 just looks like a touchdown victory celebration.

In all honesty, the most galling thing is that these are just 2 skills. 2 skills that go AT THE END OF THE SKILL BAR. These could legitimately have been on the warhorn:

Air attunement WH 4:

Name: Storms Defense
Effect: Grant all nearby allies shocking aura and Aegis for 5s. on a 25s CD.

Air attunement WH5:

Name: Stormcaller
Effect: Call down a lightning strike on target foe dealing damage. It and nearby enemies are weakened for 4s. 35s CD

EDIT:

Alternate effect for “stormcaller”: Target takes dmg and is stunned for 1s, nearby enemies are dazed for 2s.

Engie Devs and Ele Devs sit down to have a discussion about how their elites are going. They both have the same ideas for their respective weapons and argue who gets to use the ideas. Spectral Armor is great as-is, but I definitely like the idea of more Retaliation. I think Necro could use more of the “want to be hit” traits like Retaliation and stats scaling inversely with health.

I started playing necro to learn its mechanics to better defend my main class and it really shocked me with how slow they are and how they get focused with very little escape options (pvp)

I like that you said this. Most people say how we “dont even need to dodge” or how it is just a reactionary class rather than one where you anticipate your enemies. I think this is not true, but at least holds some truth. We simply can’t afford to waste dodges, so we facetank hits until the important attacks come. It’s sometimes not so easy deciding whether or not an attack is worth a dodge, as opposed to some classes spamming dodges/evades/blinds.

The inability to disengage gets me really heated sometimes. I put a ton of effort into a team fight, res some teammates, and then they all just leave me to die in a 3v1.

Figured out how to fix thief!

New elite should be replaced with a signet:

Passive: Revealed no longer effects you
Active: Immunity for 8 seconds

Not sure why some classes get a press 1 button I can’t be hurt skill, but time to even the playing field imo :P

Golems are traditionally made of clay, and clay can lose structural strength when submerged. Necromancers, even Asura Necromancers, are purists, and prefer not to use stone and metal in their golems.

And for some reason I thought it was made out of flesh…

^ Um, that’s cool, but I think the subject of this thread is the animation of the auto-attack, not its function and usefulness. It looks terrible and is so underwhelming compared to how the old animation looked.

No it’s about everything wrong with Axe skill1. Just on top of the crappy functionality it no had a terrible animation as well. Its like a slap in the face.

A slap to the face would be more ferocious than the current animation.

I don’t get how the 5k hammer auto attacks, could have been done in pvp. Using Hammer bolt in HoT (both on trash mobs , and bosses) in full zeker gear, yield 1700-2500 damage attacks. (Never a single one above 3000), and here you guys are showing off 5000+ damage strikes. And yes I often had full might stacks to boot!

To me sounds like an exploitable damage bonus trait, that triggers to often, but that only pvp people use (like next attack after blocked attack is stronger, perhaps it’s bugged).

It’s a trait for whenever an attack gets blocked/evaded/missed, the next one does 50% extra damage. I can’t remember what line it was on, but that number almost certainly can go down to 20-25%. 50% is waaay high by any standard. Of course, I want a buff in another area as my off main will ABSOLUTELY be revenant with how fun she was. However, that damage coefficient was nuts. I would intentionally get my hammer auto blocked, then use hammer 2 to pump out about 7.6-8.2k. It was beautiful -

I just don’t get the idea behind using a passive to punish people for using active defenses.

Im really hoping for a specialization that adds a 6-10 set of skills that functions like Herald with with Life Force delpetion. Huge spikes in usefulness for faster depletion sounds like a good upkeep to me.

Utility in death shroud should just be base on the necromancer.

Naw see in PVP you need real skill, I mean, tossing on a condi amulet and copying a build from Meta battle doesn’t work, it’s not like you can play a condi guard and hit your shelter and let people kill themselves. PVP is where true skill lies. It’s always hard, it’s the true GW2 game. That’s why ANet does the e-sports stuff, and have you seen how successful it is? I mean, wow, like a thousand viewers! that’s so many people! Silly PVE noobs. Stacking and exploiting everything, they really should be ashamed of themselves.

Fashion Wars is the real GW2 skill mode. So many outfits and haircuts, I bet you don’t even updo.

Except the numbers weve been comparing have always been average sustained dps. If we had included Icebow burst in those comparisons ele would be quoted as 60k dps instead of 15-18k (which is just staff by the way). And necro would have been quoted as higher dps. But we dont. We compare sustained dps. Usually over 30 second periods or repeatable rotations. Even though in reality burst is more important currently. Ironically the sustained dps comparisons has lead us to pick the best comps for bursting as well.

Plus what i find hilarious is that warriors burst dps is exactly the same as their sustain dps. Its the one class that is almost completely constant regardless of encounter length. And then you compare it to necro burst and make claims as if the warrior was bursting and had the advantage. The numbers were severely skewed in the necros favour and they still lost to a phalanx build. Just proves that what we have been saying since the beginning was right all along.

Besides im sure weve told you this countless times before but the meta isnt about dps. 2 eles and a warrior is enough to completely cover dps. The main time saves come from utility and tactics. Which is why necro is excluded. Because they take a slot, dont buff like warrior and dont do as much sustained or burst damage as ele. And they certainly dont have utility like mesmer/thief/guard/engi. So really what are you trying to prove? Your reasons for why you get kicked from groups is completely false. Its nothing to do with damage.

And yes icebow is broken. But thats just beating a dead horse with a stick. Noone disagrees with that. And its almost always excluded from dps comparisons for obvious reasons. No idea what you were trying to achieve in this video other than spreading misinformation and riling up your blind followers.

My necro used to get focused really bad so I switched to the shortest, smallest possible asura with a slimming effect armor.

I use a below medium height Asura already, and typically I love taking Burning but this team had a particularly smart CC’ing Engie. He/she would wait for the Guard to pour Burning on me and then CC chain, then they would back off until the recharges were up and go again.

I have a whole carrion Engi build that’s built around that. I just bait cleanses, then do the condi bomb stun lock combo. 10 burns in a moa is truly hilarious.

I can still be at burn guard on the build because it’s got a decent amount of condi clear and blocks etc. d/d is hard to fight, but that’s a given.

when I play warrior it’s mostly clerics shouts for pvp, and that build has so much AOE and personal condi clear that I just laugh at condi builds.

I dont have to like you for it, but I can certainly respect the efficacy. :P

Seriously, I love that Engies keep me on my toes. There’s so much I have to keep track of, CC’s, bursts, transformation counters, blocks, Invulns… so much more fun than fighting the simple natured burst-bust of offensive Guards or the systematic sustain of eles.

Reaper has way, way, way, to high of dps to be as tanky as they are. Hands down Reaper was the best elite spec by far. The amount of damage that they can deal is absolutely ridiculous. Their only weakness at the moment is their lack of gap closers, and I can’t even imagine if you get stuck in melee range with one. The fact that you can stack 11 stacks of poison on someone with rs 4? Or that a shout for might can place 14-22 stacks of might on yourself? Or that gs3 into gs4 can take all/most of someone’s health? And all the while with two health bars to burn through like it’s nothing. I can’t honestly believe that Reapers will be let into the game without some serious tweaking.

As a side note, I like how people are complaining about a scythe, an insanely impractical combat weapon that has not once in history seen use on the battlefield as an effective weapon in the normal scythe configuration (only time it was used is as a makeshift polearm with the pointy end sticking straight out instead of a 90° angle) being “unrealistic” as it is magically conjured by someone shrouded in the life force of death.

Honestly, I laugh about that from time to time. I don’t bring it up in the forum, but a “weapon” designed to lowly cut crops by rotating in a non-aggressive manner is about the definition of “silly” to me.

As a Necro I love blocks. I have Wells, Marks, DS2, and Warhorn 4 that all go through them. It is time they are spending not attacking me, which means im less likely to be interrupted in a Heal and I can still damage them in that time.

Invulns on the other hand, are much shorter durations for Guardian. Engie, Ele, Mesmer all have more access to Invulns than guards do but your arguments dont seem to be about them. In fact, Engies have the best access to Invulns and blocks, but they are considered to be below Guardians in usefulness for some reason. Since the Invuln doesn’t count for capping a poing they can be exploited a little bit.

Herald is disgusting

What? This is a post complaining about herald being strong, but almost all of the things you complain about are shiro stance skills. Nearly everything you complain about is about the evades. And hammer is a well balanced weapon with slow hardhitting skills. Things like drop the hammer are quite easy to dodge and the hammer leaves you mostly helpless in melee range.

How is phase traversal any different from judge’s intervention? The mobility is much much weaker compared to a thief that has steal, shadowstep, and infiltrator’s arrow, its not even comparable.

And I’m not sure why you’re complaining about the shield breakbar when soft Ckittenerally blows it up and stuns the revenant with 25 stacks of vuln. Thats so much counterplay its not even worth using.

Hammer is fine

I can almost feel all the people deciding to be Rev mains after that.

Maybe instead of the scythe scaling down, the shrouded character should scale up.
