Guys the answer is right in front of you, it’s not complicated at all. To balance pvp means to affect the builds of pve players. Pve players currently fund the game. Ergo, don’t kitten with the revenue stream. Of course then the most obvious question is why don’t they split pve and pvp balance? I don’t know. I don’t buy the responses given that it’s to help not alienate pve players when they visit pvp… just guessing but I’d lean towards there not being enough programmers and qa staff to support what amounts to a near doubling of skills. Notice also how 2 years into the game there are only a handful of new skills.
I always thought it was to prevent something like what happen in guild wars 1, but I guess that seems to logical a reason for some.
and what was it that happened to gw1 that they are trying to prevent?

Is there any written communication about this new patch preview? Seeing people talking about skills and upcoming new gamemode..?
I think GW1 had even more customization than GW2 and that game was balanced amazingly.
GW1 had way less customization on the stats front. But a huge amount more in skill choices.
The comparison stops here.
And GW1’s balance was completely broken btw. It was ok until factions, then it got bad, and then it got even worse. Why? Because they added too many skills instead of making the old ones useful.
+ GW1 was a full scale cooperative game, everyone had a specific role, and GW2 went on a solo scale, which means that even though a good team with a lot of interactions is great to watch, just force them to split them up and if they are bad in 1v1 or 2v2, they’ll just lose.
TL;DR: don’t compare GW1 and GW2, the games are completely different, and GW1 was NOT well balanced.
there were times it was obviously imbalanced but they would eventually nerf OP stuff. The dervish one recently took them a long time to figure out and that was pretty bad, but we’re talking about a left over dev team on life support before gw2 launch and they still managed to gradually right the ship over the course of a few months. more than I can say about gw2.
Moderators are mostly consistent and fair. If I was running a game I wouldn’t want my official forums to be host to toxic posts either. Very bad for business. Then again, I wouldn’t have made a game like this…
Then again, who will trust you with 50+ million to build a game?
I’d have made the best stripper simulator on the market with that budget.
wooooo weeeee dis ere lot lookin fer BLOOD

rule out the most extreme builds – tone down the burstiest damage and soften the toughest bunkers, and thereby hopefully increase the skill required in the game and the number of viable builds.
Unless they do a 180 and make the base game be less bad in the coming year there’s no point even looking at an expansion. Pay money? For more of the same? No thanks. They’ve had time and time again with each update to show what’s important to them, and an expansion can only be a continuation of this game’s downward trajectory since launch.
You seem like you’d be fun at parties.
I don’t go to parties, they can’t handle me

The upcoming big patch is not a ‘content only’ patch, but rather a features only patch, so it probably will not have a new race or new maps.
Living Story Season Two may bring us a new map(s), with the introduction of a new Dragon, though.
They’re continuing with the living story? Really?
Gear may become skin unlocks to be reusable an infinite amount of times.
that’s really optimistic
They’ve been getting much more aggressive with infractions this past month
funding from a continually developed gw1 cash shop and another expansion would move things along. Gw2 could pay for gw1s continued development. Guild wars 1s continued progress could carry more over to gw2 progress through any sort of cross-game interaction…if gw1 gets upgraded to something like gw2, maybe more players would decide that they would want to play this new expansion and buy gw1 cash shop stuff. Stuff that relates more to gw1s world.
they don’t want anything to do with gw1, as far as they’re concerned it was a bad game since they changed everything in gw2
I to was fond of the Team Deathmatch arenas in GW1. I just dont think that mode would be very successful in GW2. The developers actually came on Grouch’s stream early on and said that they had tried 5v5 team deathmatch in GW2 and that fights normally came down to who ran in and blew their elites first.
monumental development oversight, cannot be understated.
GW1 Observer Mode was a fantastic system, if possible GW2 should really try to get the same thing asap – it may save the game.
it will never be added
I quit like… A month ago, Team High Warlord Sikari, me and my 5 minions of fury… still mess with the GW2 forums while I wait for Wildstar to come out, and hope it’s got decent updates and balance. Only time will tell, not getting my hope up but still pretty stoked.
So u basically changing 1 game broken by ncsoft on another game by ncsoft? Is it wise?
Even if wildstar was released in it’s current state and never got a update, it has far more pvp content than gw2 and a better proffession balance.
I remember this same line before guild wars 2 was released. I wonder how true that would be in the long run.
Trust me. Lvl 50 in current WS beta and 2k+ hours in gw2. WS has much more content
If nothing else, the combat looks much clearer
I’ll share my personnal opinion. Bringing pve/wvw players by integrating spvp more with the rest or something isn’t going to give people incentive to play it. At the moment, my team and I get at least three 500-0s per evening vs randoms everytime we teamQ. There were only 2 teams that were challenging to fight and are probably decimating randoms as well when not playing against each other/us. Being a pve/wvw more casual player and getting disemboweled by long time pvpers is NOT fun. Make the pvp so unique, interesting and balanced (aka better balance, game modes, less messy particles and stuff) that it would bring new people into the game, and THOSE people, coming FOR THE PVP would actually make the effort to get destroyed at first and then improve, etc etc. Trying to salvage your playerbase by changing the reward system as a main strategy to get spvp back on track is meant to fail.
absolutely
The pve rewards will be less than what a pve farmer could get, so those that chase shinies will not stay, and those that remain will still have to deal with spvp’s main problems. It’s like advertising for a restaurant and then serving spoilt food
edit: now that I think about it, gw2 has been 200% hype all day every day so it really doesn’t surprise me
(edited by milo.6942)
You mustn’t mention that game’s name, it is cursed
They don’t have to make sure there are more ppl playing PvP. They have to strengthen the Core-PvP-Players (a lot of them did quit already tho) and really make you feel rewarded for your time-investment and skilllevel.
I must say, if the developers were to occasionally admit their mistakes, I wouldn’t be bothered by said mistakes, because admitting them is simply the most honest and mature thing to do, which earns respect.
They don’t admit anything because they have no plans on changing
Evan you guys keep focusing on bring players in, but never on keeping them. You keep players with good balance and fun gameplay.
can you just split pve and pvp skills please
It’s no joke, but this is exactly the reason they won’t do small balance updates. And it’s what’s needed.
@Sensotix.4106
We didn’t promise anything, we shared our high level road-map plans.
This is why we don’t like sharing dates. I know you’re waiting on things, and the wait is driving me crazy too, but saying we made promises when we clearly did not does not help get the content out sooner.
If you want greater transparency, like I do, then you must accept that dates, features, and plans are not a static promise. Things can happen to shift priorities, dates, or designs, causing things to changed, be pushed back, or accelerated.
Please stop.
/personal rant
Did or did not promise is irrelevant. Transparency is irrelevant. Dates and priorities shifted around are irrelevant. You can keep all your dates and projects and everything you want hidden, as long as at the end of the day you bring quality updates that are worth the wait. The community is hardly at fault, and these threads will never stop. There are systematic problems in anet HQ that have created this situation, and the situation will remain until anet decides to transform all those "soon"s and hype into hard facts. The problem is with anet.
Thanks for posting. Don’t take this or any of these other posts so personally.
Guys, stop picking on Justin. He is always active on forum and actually gives us his opinion instead of some standard formatted messages.
/agree
Anyway, they obviously are working on improving PvP. Criticism is always good, but it should be more constructive than this.
/disagree
Unless “working on improving” means “90% smoke and mirrors and 10% casual player updates twice a year”
Allie Murlock says there will only be glory booster removal at 18th – big balance.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/March-18th-Glory-change-FAQ/firstDoes this mean there is no balance patch in march ? If yes RIP Gw2
It has been resting quite a while now
My daily treat is the sweet smell of nerd rage bread baking in the oven. Trolls are like butter on my gaming experience, making everything tasty and right.
Another confirmation that OP is correct. +1
I disagree that the orb needs to be a transform for equal play because its being viewed from the scope of only having one game mode. One day we might even get build templates.
am I so sick this makes no sense, or does this really make no sense
It’s a common pve-player misconception that having more stat choices would mean more build diversity. The limiting factors are actually core class mechanics and conquest.
Mesmers are getting some nice stuff.
Stay tuned.
I don’t play this game any more because you guys keep buffing the wrong things.
People come on don’t be like this. GW2 pvp is the very good. Every night I log, I join team/solo arena I’m team up with 2-3 thief’s or ele’s vs 2-3 hambow’s the effect is 100-500 for hambow, or something like this, or we get 4v5. My patience last 2-3 games at max and then I do ALT + F4, say kitten you to all games and do something useful like running, studding, meet new friends, new girls
So overall gw2 is good for yaa, as a game play it’s a joke
running, studding, new gf, balance patch coming soon™ all is vain
(edited by milo.6942)
They seemed to be held back by “other forces” within anet
I disagree with that.
If you’d seen Sacrx’ NDA leak you’d know how PvP was mismanaged from the ground up. How it was deemed that conquest style was the best form of PvP. How for the longest time the WvW team had to put their ideas through the PvP team and in spite of this WvW emerged more successful.
Then idk what else to say, hard to imagine there could be this much fail without some serious external mismanagement
I’m sick of the word ’’Soon’’
Anyway if the game isn’t fixed before Wildstar releases i’m out.
Save yourself some time…
This is actually a bit of an issue, it seems. Part of the barrier to PvP in this game is the awful “hotjoin” system that many players don’t realize is just for fun and not to be taken seriously at all. To them all of PvP is just hotjoin, and they don’t even realize the two queue systems that are in place exist at all.
We really do need an unrated queue with hidden MMR.
I been saying since beta to delete hotjoin, it is removing players from queues and it is worse game mode than tourny conquest. In anet’s eternal quest to cater to lowest-rung casuals they leave it in.
the simplest of lessons from gw1 are thrown away to be “different” and copy fps games, completely oblivious to what the game actually needs.
You’re taking GW2 PvP more seriously than the devs take it.
I always had an OK opinion of pvp devs, They seemed to be held back by “other forces” within anet
cry evertim a bro loses a bro
no mo bros no mo
/cry
fairly objective analysis of game +1
To prove why build diversity is awesome, I will show you the most dumb (yet funny^^) build ever. If you thought Firestorm warrior (as per the GW1 box example) was funny, you have seen nothing yet! Ladies and gentleman, I bring you Caveman Meteor Shower Warrior!!!! XD
hahahahaha that’s awesome
gw1 > gw2
edit: he always late to the hammer bash but w/e
Jesus what a kiss butt thread
lol kiss butt
I can’t imagine a world without god. To me that would be sad.
you don’t have to imagine
They’re trying too hard with all the animations.
Next one should be kept nice and simple, and should feature a huge eternal hero dishing out the good old ‘DO U EVEN LIFT’ & ‘UMAD BRO’ lines. It might even spurr a spark or two of competition, and that’s sth GW2 is always in a dire need of anyway! The Anet from 5 years ago would’ve done that, I’m certain.
All new visual effects and armors and weapons are trying too hard
This entire game is a try hard
I didn’t see anywhere what will happen to unspent glory. Will it disappear or converted to gold?
regards
Anet has a habit of making things disappear.
Especially their players…
amen
Maybe we have to quit this game?
there’s an idea
Speaking of vertical progression, did they go through with that sprocket pickaxe?
I didn’t see anywhere what will happen to unspent glory. Will it disappear or converted to gold?

Stop Sitting in LA all day
Stop trying to reach lvl 80 in one day
Stop making the game feel like work
Stop Champion Farming all your life (some ppl still haven’t been outside of Queensdale)
Stop trying to figure out the fastest way to get the best of everything with least effortImmerse yourself in an amazing world with every detail and every sound.
Enjoy exploring new areas and meeting characters instead of rushing to get it over with. If it feels like exhausting work, then take a break. You invested in Tyria to let you escape the real world sometimes and to live in a fantasy one. So enjoy everything the world has to offer.I’m writing this because I always meet people who are bored and sad. All they talk about is how they want legendary this and how they’re going to Champ Farm for 99 years to make x amount of money. These people don’t know how to enjoy the journey. I’m not saying everyone is this way You have to calm your mind and have fun when you play.
I get that you like the environments, we all do mate. It’s the rest that’s kitten.

…
- An increase in the overall effectiveness of the players’ characters (objectively provable; game effectiveness is determined by math; Ascended provides higher numbers)
I disagree with this because I think player ability and attitude plays as large, if not larger role in their character’s effectiveness.
lol /clapclap
