problem is not who want to play spvp solo, problem is who want to play t pvp solo.
if you have an ally nearby he can res you before stomp goes through.
if you don’t have an ally nearby, this whole discussion is pointless because you werent gonna get back up anyway even if you could stop his 1st stomp.

hey OP here is an idea for a companion engi to a 100b warrior:
rifle, utility: elixir gun & net turret
so you have rifle which is best cc weapon in game with immob spam. can coordinate to use 100b often on targets. elixir gun has fumigate which applies poison, vulnerability, and removes up to 5 conditions from allies, applies weakness on auto atk (great condi for mitigating dmg), and has super elixir which he can throw under his warrior and removes 1 condi when it lands, plus heals on impact, plus heals over 10 seconds, plus is a light combo field. then you have net turret which makes sure the enemy is not going anywhere while your warrior spams 100b on them. so, all-in-all, this is a pretty good idea I think.

Yes I agree, orb should have its own skills. It should in fact be a regular bundle item (in addition to the slows and drop on tele, etc). I don’t agree that the person’s utilities should be blocked however. Would be interesting to see what skills they could have on the orb.
warrior + ele synergizes well
why? when i say rifle engineer i imagine them in voip 3..2..1 and engi immobilizes target and warrior uses 100b. what does ele offer?
I think that is actually the “official” reply about mist form. It’s opportunity cost. The ele used up his utility slot for mist form instead of some other skill, then he used it offensively to get his stomp off on the first try, so now he has to deal with not having it for its recharge duration.
To turn the question around, why does it matter so much if he’s invulnerable? Were you alone? Did you think if you interrupted him once you would live? If you were not alone, then I can only say I hope your team was able to take him out afterwards. Eles are OP these days anyway, they are way too hard to kill.

You know what I find annoying in spvp? Downed state in general. Without it the game would’ve been much better and i don’t know why anet insists and doesn’t remove it completely for spvp. No one would be complaining about stealth/invulnerability stomps if there was no downs.

many times people who are not new want to try out a new build, but don’t want their rating affected, so they can go unranked solo.
in this way new players have a clear path to play with less zerg and less heat from better players. in hotjoin it is just a mass chaos.
later when custom arenas are done, it would be great to have ability to join cool player-maintained servers with different rules, and create semi-communities in this way. but now, hotjoin is pointless and it is a bad experience for new players.

I still do not get why you all hate RTL so much. The movement skills of Ranger, Warrior and Greatsword or whatever class are getting you just as far in the same amount of time.

dejay, it is fair to say not all profession should be equal, and that ele need mobility to survive as glass cannon.
maybe your solution is best, but i feel that part of the skill of playing glass cannon should be assessing the situation before engaging and deciding if it’s worth it. if you can just rtl and disengage from all situations, then there is no reason to think twice before engaging. also, this would easily solve the orb problem without resorting to special-case rules for specific skills.
And yes, it is a teleport skill as it brings you from one place to other instantly. It doesn’t give swiftness, it takes you where you want to go in a flash. You can even cross gaps with it – something that other teleport skills can’t even do.

There is no ‘join solo queue’ option. There is a ‘join solo’ queue option. The patch didn’t add solo queue, it just added a button to make it more convenient to queue up by yourself, but you still get matched against everyone else playing tpvp, including premades.
Remove something from the game that should never have been implemented, and add a convenience button for something that already exists.

They said they want to avoid people gaming the system. They probably don’t want people learning what specific actions raise or lower the number and by how much.

In charr pve noob land there is this vista on top of a super tall tower. the only way to get it is to get inside of a huge cannon on the ground that is shooting cows and you get shot to the top. how about a 1v1 up there, with the cannon throwing insta-death cows at you guys??

Perhaps the platform is not quite large enough, make small size adjustment by adding wooden floor extensions to make it look like the building is under construction.

Another one inspired by fractals (i actually like fractals, they’re well designed.) it’s middle of a blizzard and there is 1 campfire. If you get out of the near area there is obviously the cold*, but also a boss on a cliff above you (creepy evil guy that wants to see ppl fight like in mortal combat) that casts a freeze spell. Red ring on the ground, you can dodge it, but not forever. Your opponent can capitalize on this and spike u while you’re frozen (stun breaker can get you out of it too). Maybe as an added cool-factor there are dozens of wolves in the distance that are watching, and if you go even further you get insta-killed by a boss wolf or something.
- in pve fractal there is this blizzard map where you have to be near a heat source, or you start taking more and more cold dmg.

It’s likely that bunker will continue to be necessary, but now you will also need to have your cc coordinated on keeping orb carrier occupied.
Actually, there is no need for a mechanism to prevent people from trolling. Set time-limit to 2 minutes. Go!
I see CC being king. Stability is clearly good. Any class with a push ability will bring it. Imagine the tension of being on the edge and waiting for that millisecond until your next dodge comes just before the enemy attempts to launch you. Games could last seconds, then you’re on to the next matchup.
Probably need to be some kinda central “thing” that you channel for secs that makes you win round. Force opponent to come to you if he keep running away. (actually that is probably not too great, but something can be found that might work as a mechanic to keep people from running away too much.)
Another scene to picture:
Asuran architecture. Pyramid. You’re at the top, walls at the edges. Very little room. There are 2-3 levels below you that you can go to. These are slightly larger, but have insta-kill traps. No walls at edges. Falling is insta-death. Lure your opponent into a trap below, or fight them above.
Yea Syko that’s what I want to see as well, but OP seems to be talking about class balance which is a different (and more difficult) issue to address.

Here is a simple idea for 1v1.
It is not new, and it is in fact very low-tech.
Picture a round area high up with sheer drop (like a plateau). It is not very big. Very sparse environment. Maybe a single tree, some boulders (of course there is environment in distance, but you can never get there). If you fall off the edge, you die. Whoever lives in under a few mins (5?) is the winner.
I know anet likes large maps with cool environment, but the spartan scene and simple mechanics will probably make people happy.

I haven’t played it at all, but it sounds like teams need to devote more attention to preventing orb score. Sounds good since it speeds up the boring conquest style.
You should start GW1 guild instead.
Honestly, i dont think PvP ever left Beta. there isn’t enough to even say its ever left it.
no rewards, no match making, no rating, still unbalanced, terrible maps, no custom arenas, no spectator mode, no competition.

Hello everyone, here are my proposed changes for how to fix pvp. I don’t think I will hear many disagreements from the players, but the dev team won’t like it because it basically means they’ve done everything wrong up until now.
First I want to say, I love you pvp dev team. You want this game to be good so badly, but through what I can only assume are poor decisions on your part and not enough programming muscle from the company, it’s not working out. There are probably half-finished project notes strewn about your offices for stuff like custom arenas (remember when those were priority #1?) and ladder and micro-transactions, etc etc. I have been watching since day 1, and I have said since then that what you need is: matchmaking. Now you guys are starting to do it, but the player count is so low, it has a high chance to fail (“Why do I fight high rank ppl all the time???” asks a rank 9).
I propose a drastic plan to stop the hemorrhaging player-base, and grow your mmr system so it actually works and people can start to come back.
- Temporarily Disable Hotjoin
- Temporarily Disable 3-Round Tournies
- Add Real Solo-Queue Tourny System
- Add Button on Screen When In Mists To “Join Solo Now”
Your player base is all over the place. Focus on your core. People want to play and not get stomped. Hotjoin is “OK” but it is diverting what few people you have away from where they are needed most. A solo queue can easily give what most players want: instant action. It has the added benefit of being likely to give players the game experience at their level. Newbies won’t be overwhelmed by zergs of rank 30+ thieves and eles. Ranks 30+ people will be able to play games that are challenging but not impossible to win. It should allow winners to continue playing for as long as they keep winning (perhaps cap it at 3, or 5, or 10). Sure, people can leave in the middle of the game, and that sucks for other people, but as soon as they lose they can get back in with a full team.
There is no point in having a 3 round tourny that will never pop because everyone is doing 1 round. Why on earth is it still in the game. You don’t have the player base to accommodate it. It is a cool idea, yes, but you should have it be a “special” event that people schedule time for, so that everyone is ready for it and can do it at the same time (Automated Tournies GW1).
In the future, there are other things that can help greatly. In terms of GW1, the game has taken a giant step backward wrt separate servers that splinter the pvp population. A LFG tool can help, but it is no substitute for logging into the mists to see it packed with people all looking for players to form teams. Consider that people form opinions immediately based on what they see. Little numbers in a LFG tool (which doesn’t even exist yet) can’t compare.
I repeat, you are losing players daily. Cut your loses, close the wound, and focus what players you have into a proper experience that they can tell their friends about.

yolo queue troll button does the same thing as you can normally do: create a roster by yourself and it will “sorta think about” putting you on team with other solo ppl, and “consider” putting you against other solo queuers.
