They should have at least given LB a ~10% damage increase and upped the flight speed of all arrows by 50%. And maybe a 5% damage increase to GS. Given how lackluster the LB is, it wouldn’t break anything. Add 5% move speed to SOH, and more passive toughness to SOS. Throw us a bone here, please.

A warrior doesn’t have a pet. Of cos in a vacuum without the pet and other stuff he’s going to do more damage than you.
Ranger already has a long ranged weapon (Longbow). The other side is filled in by Shortbow. So theres no real need for rifle here, except to complicate things. Granted, LB is terrible, but I don’t see them adding in rifle anytime soon—they have a ton of more important things to fix. Maybe in a future expansion? I wouldnt expect anything though.

If you want to be a WoW clone, do it right, or the people who wants it to be WoW will just leave it anyway.Don’t mince words, say it straight out: You’re adding a new tier of gear because you want people to farm something, and have something to do in the game.
Even if you can do it “right”, there is no way you can win WoW by “out-wowing” them. WoW has been doing it for freaking 9 years already. Look at SWTOR. The WoW crowd would just burn though all the content and leave again for their main game. Selling out your own principles to try to retain a fickle group? never a good decision.

This has obviously been planned for a while, so why hasn’t it been mentioned in any of the recent interviews? I’m sorry, but dropping the news of sweeping game changes a few days before a patch launches just isn’t acceptable in my eyes. Communication is important and we need to know exactly what is on the table for the immediate future.
Why would they tell us? obviously they want us to buy gems for fine transmute stones for our exotic armour. If people knew, they wouldn’t have bothered. Now lets move on to ascended!

I stopped playing WoW because I was sick of constantly having to grind new gear just to keep up with the crowd and for access to new content. It isn’t fun, when a game becomes like a job. After 2 years of hardcore raiding I finally called it quits. I’ve had enough.
I really loved GW2 because of the promise there would be no more of this rubbish. That content will scale horizontally, that people will play because it is fun, not because they feel like they have to. Isn’t that why most of us are here? We were wooed by this truly revolutionary idea, that there would be NO gear treadmill. Where everyone would be equal, and where skill, not gear would take precedence. Whats this rubbish of “you have to get this new gear to go all the way in this new dungeon” Thats gated content. Why have agony at all? Why even have the new tier at all? Why not a dungeon that gets progressively harder as you go further, but anyone can attempt with any gear?
There are lots of things that need fixing. Buggy/boring dungeons. SPVP balance. Class balance. Broken level scaling. Guesting. Instead you guys have to add this new tier rubbish? I’ve spent over 40+ hours, over 10 days, running dungeons to get my full exotic set, and an addtional 10+g for accessories. I’ve bought a set of fine stones just to transmute them. Gee thanks, ANET. Well at least I didn’t karma farm for my exotic armours. Can you imagine how those people who karma farmed for their gear must be feeling right now? All that grind for nothing. If I wanted a game like this I would have stayed in WoW, tyvm. You cannot out-wow WoW.

I think the prices are okay, its a long term thing for people to work towards. If you want cheaper theres always T1 and T2. But yes, T3 should be bumped to exotic and come with superior runes, to reflect their quality.
Why not? more things to do besides the usual grind are always welcome. Plus it’ll encourage people to visit maps they don’t usually go to.
I really wish there is an option to turn off particle effects or something. When I run into the zerg my fps just drops to like 2 and it becomes like microsoft powerpoint.
They do need to buff LB and GS damage. These are lackluster and limits the number of viable builds we can do. LB is just…I love the traited range, but the damage and rate of fire is terrible. I can doze off using it. Until they boost it considerably I’m sticking with the SB.
Kill shot kinda sucks in PVP anyway. Its so obvious, once you see the warrior kneel down, just wait ~ 1 second and dodge roll. There, his burst skill that would hit for ~8k damage just missed. The only way you can reliably hit with it is in very messy situations/ with CC
No problem. One minor thing, do note you can only switch to a server that isnt “FULL”. If it says “FULL”, you’ll have to wait for off peak hours to transfer.
don’t waste your tokens exchanging for them, they are only ~20c on the TP. Not sure about the “400 token” one. It should be a bug.
Server transfer is still free afaik. But you’re limited to one switch per week.

OP, do you gather materials? mining/gathering/chopping…those things give you a lot of exp, and you can easily do those while running around.

Also, invest at least 10 points into beastmastery. Really helps your pet survive, and with a bear you can let it tank pretty strong monsters.

Day and Night time should have equal lengths imo. It doesnt make sense for them to be different. Some places are very beautiful at night.
I think the dungeon idea is pretty good. That way people can have variety in their choice of dungeons. It gets boring running a particular dungeon for the 20th time. Of cos, the amount of tokens needed for each piece of gear would have to be adjusted. Certain paths should be tweaked as well, especially those buggy/super lengthy ones.
SPVP needs more maps with different mechanics. (like capture the flag, etc). Also some of the maps are too cramped, like Capricorn. There is also no reward for defending a node, which leads to everyone just taking nodes and then immediately running off.
I disagree with dungeons being too hard. The learning curve for some of them is a bit steep, but after the 1st few runs it gets really, really easy. It also helps a lot to get appropriate gear and know where to stand. Sometimes I can even alt tab and chat on msn while running a dungeon.
You don’t have to buy fine transmutation stones (for lvl 80 items) with real money, you can just convert using in-game gold via the black lion trading panel. I have a stash of 20+ fine stones and I didn’t spend a single real life penny. If you’re lucky you can also get black lion keys from drops/map completion and use them to open chests for a chance at getting transmutation stones. The basic transmutation stones are pretty plentiful too.

I usually see teams of all guardians and bunkers.
The guardians and bunkers are there to counter burst builds, and the worst offender in ‘burst builds’ are the thieves. So, to solve the bunker issue, you have to solve the burst issue 1st, which is the upcoming nerf.

I love Rata Sum, its banks, TP, crafting stations are all very well centralised. I only go to LA because its free.
A pet is part and parcel of the ranger, an extension of him. Either you accept the whole thing or go reroll another class. ANET will never implement stowing pets to give you buffs, that will be them shooting themselves in the foot.
except in a 2 v 2 the healer and the bunker will probably > you. Weeee guardian knockdowns!
You see, adding healers will just add a whole bunch of mess to pvp. If you like dedicated heal bots so much, this isnt the game for you.
WoW is not the only game to have ever existed, see daoc’s interrupt system.
Without healers and effective crowd control burst wins. I think its reasonable to say the downed state system was put in place to deal with the fallout from removing healers.

what system? dedicated targeted healers in pvp only serve to prolong the fight/slow things down. We already have self healing. If you’ve played PVP in WOW Cata you will know what I’m talking about. 5 min long fights are such a pain, everyone spamming healing.
Healers are not the answer, tweaking of burst and bunkers are. The most fun thing about PVP in this game is the fast pace and the fluidity of the combat system. Furthermore, GW2 wants to be as far away from the holy trinity as possible.
Healers are NOT the answer. Why play with skill when you have a pocket healer?

No, just no. Why would you undermine the whole class mechanic? that would be like a mesmer saying “no I don’t want clones or phantasms…just give me all the raw damage”
Have your pet on passive and only send it out smartly/ redraw it using swap/F3. I’ve not ran into aggro problems of any kind even when doing dungeons, you just have to play/control smart and not treat the pet like some automatic robot. I do agree the pet’s animation(inability to attack on the go) needs a little work, but once that gets fixed rangers will be perfectly fine.
IF it gets fixed… IF not, im stuck with a pet that gives me trouble,i wanted a ranger not a tamer, i hafta constantly look at its hp heal if its low and swap if its about to die and press f2 for its skill, its like taking care of a baby lol
Try using a ranged pet like a spider or devourer, they don’t require as much attention since they aren’t in the front line taking heat. Or get a tanky pet like a bear. It doesn’t require that much attention anyway…heal when its low, swap when its dying, etc etc…If I didn’t have a pet to manage it’ll be quite boring, tbh
Well think about it this way….the damage the pet is taking is the damage you would otherwise be eating—-so its actually helping you out a lot. When your pet is defeated and you have to go ‘solo’, you’d notice its a lot harder.
hmmm not really that hard to solo.. cuz its mostly DE’s so there are many people around… what im try to say is they made rangers to pair with their pets, its like the pets is roughly 30-40% of your pairs output damage? (correct me if im wrong ) but it wouldn’t matter much if the pets them selves don’t work properly..
i see a monster press f1 the pet runs pass the monster the monster comes to me i end up bein the damage taker so id dodge/roll while attacking, so the monster would follow me hence the pet would have a hard time following and hitting the monster maybe get 2-3 hits in
Let the pet hit the monster 1st. If you shoot it before the pet hits the monster will most likely go after you instead. This could also happen if you deal too much damage relative to your pet, thereby drawing aggro to yourself. Do you have any points in beastmastery?

People won’t support it because the ranger is a pet class. A ranger is not called a sniper for good reasons. You want a ranged class with no pets, roll a warrior. They can use rifles and snipe.
Go try some jumping puzzles with a friend or w/e. Some of them are really hair pulling and challenging.
Just because you don’t like it doesnt mean they should remove it. Yes, you do get delvled, so whats the issue? just explore the whole zone as you would and don’t care so much about your level.
Removing exp from crafting and gathering will make this game grindy. We don’t need any more of that kind of mmo.
Take away the downstate and the game sucks because people would just burst you? So?
DAOC has be said to STILL be the best pvp mmo out there. DAOC was all about bursting and CC, that’s what made the combat so exciting. Being a rogue watching a duo run down the road and picking off the mage real fast so you can 1v1 the warrior was so fun!
You cannot do that in this game because of the downstate. It is difficult to impossible to win a 2v1 against even terrible players, because they keep rezing each other. This is basically equivalent to everyone having a heal bot.
They took away healers to kill the holy trinity, but downstate makes it almost a guarantee in every fight…
Wut? interrupt/CC the guy trying to ress, or just straight stomp the downed guy if they’re that terrible. You gonna be smart too, you know. You can even use quickness+stomp to get rid of the downed guy fast. 2 v 1 is still okay, the problem is when its a 3 v 1.

i would really really hate it if rangers got stealth, i choose ranger type classes because i do not like stealth mechanics and really think they have no place in MMOs in general. but i just thought i would voice my opinion here before all the OMG stealth would be awesome posts.

IMO it’s okay as long as it makes sense and is appropriate. Maybe not like true stealth? but a camouflage, faded into shadows thingy. If you’re a ranger you should know some things about hiding yourself and stalking prey.
I did 2 paths in HOTW yesterday, and I wasn’t wearing any sort of MF gear. Only a 26% buff from food. I got like 6, 7 rares. Then after I came out, Jormag was near dying. I swam over, tagged him, and in the chest was another 2 more rares.
Its because your character is standing in the sun. Morning/evening sunlight is golden, so this will of course affect the colours on your character.
I like the realism of the environment.
It’s harder to do it in this game, since the TP is game-wide. So you’d need a lot of capital to play.
I’ve completed all 3 Orr maps while soloing. Its annoying sometimes, but after a while you get used to it, and change your tactics, get appropriate gear, etc. Its actually fun if you have the correct mindset. Feels so good when you run through a swarm of them and you survive due to using the correct skills and dodging at the right time.
Also, dont waypoint to Lion’s Arch. Hit the PVP button, go to the Heart of The Mists, then use the portal over there to get into Lion’s Arch. Saves you a ton.
The problem i found today while having a little farm in Orr is if you don’t join a group from the spam messages all you get in drops is the amazing porous bones.

I was running around like a lunatic trying to tag mobs for some damage at Plinx event and the tunnel event’s but just couldn’t do it.
Single person versus 2 + groups = zero rewards in drops as far as i can see.
I eventually gave up of course and moved to wandering solo on another lower level map. { at least i wont get banned as a bot LOL }
If you’re doing solo, I wouldn’t recommend going Plinx , because its going to be frustrating due to the sheer amount of people. Going for a smaller event somewhere else on the map would reward you far, far more.
Yea, grouping with strangers when leveling is just awkwaaaard. I don’t like making small talk. I play to relax. But boss chests and loot are all personal, so there isn’t any absolute need to group up. You don’t need a party to fully participate in any event. Unless you hit end game and you want to eke out that little extra efficiency in farming. But of course, that’s everyone’s own decision.
It isnt. One nice thing about this game is that you can play any race any class you want. All races have all access to all the classes, which is a good step forward.There is no stat difference. Each race has its own unique racial skills for use in PVE. (in pvp everyone is equal). For norn you have animal forms, you can turn into a werebear, wereleopard, etc for short periods of time. I see huge norn guardians all the time.
