People aren’t taking into consideration everything they’re working on alongside this

A lot of the arguments are “well, x boss in y dungeon does z, which makes it harder.”

However, remember the devs will be balancing fights around the fact that you can’t waypoint zerg anymore.

I know they’ve said that but based on what Colin said waypoint zerging wasn’t intended in the first place therefore the encounters as they are were not balanced with that in mind.

You are going to severely nerf AoE? well then just remove the double dagger weapons setup for Elementalist, as it will be totally useless after the nerf.

What about staff eles, its even more aoe oriented. How are we meant to attack single mobs with anything but aoe when our better abilities are all aoes.

This was an issue brought up by spvp players and a very valid one at that. Currently it is impossible to ress an ally with the amount of dmg wells, cluster bomb, etc. do and thus aoe dmg should be lowered a bit.

If its valid for sPVP make the change to sPVP only. They can do that.

Anyone else think these statements are hilariously contradictory?

Course they are and reducing the effectiveness of aoe will make zerging even more prominent. They state there have been complaints about aoe spamming. Well I haven’t seen 1. If its in SPVP then change the balance for SPVP only, they can do that.

No waypoint rez use in dungeons until the whole party wipes. It seemed pretty clear to me, though I don’t know if maybe I missed something? It’s to prevent people from just WPing as soon as they die and running at the boss mindlessly without any actual tactic. Party wipe >WP > regroup is what they’re going for.

There’s already a cost for this in terms of repair costs so it does reward better players as it is. COlin says that they don;t want people to play like this but its PvE what does it matter, especially given there’s an inbuilt cost to bad players as it is. And what about revive orbs I presume players will still be able to use those. I bet the gem shop will see an uptick in terms of those sales.

The logical endpoint of this change will be more dungeon elitism in terms of what groups are looking for.

Which aoe has the same opportunity cost as a powerful single target skill say on a staff ele? Meteor shower has a long cooldown and cast time it costs way more than any single target spells the class has. Same with churning earth on D/D.

They also said they want to discourage zerging in WvW, well making aoe less effective will only lead to more zergs.

I don’t get all the QQ. A NERF to AoE does not mean that your 20k crit will turn into a 2k crit it more will be more like from 20k to 15k which probablx still is to much.

Name 1 aoe spec that is overall more powerful than a single target spec. I’m talking in terms of overall damage. There isn’t one, staff ele is demonstrably inferior to D/D.

I’ve got a staff ele, the aoe is primarily an area denial tool than a damage tool, because its too easy to avoid the damage, that is why it isn’t that strong.

I have not really heard anybody complaining about how hard hitting elementalists are just complaining of their mobility/survivability.

Exactly they implied there had been complaints about aoe classes being too powerful when I doubt I’ve seen one, indeed if anything its the opposite.

You might see that as a good thing but actually that is going to cause the newer players not wanting to do dungeon runs. and more so, no one will take newer players.
You recall the people asking to see your rank in HA in gw1? guess what, this is Anet now implementing that.

ie. more elitism, seriously they do not think these changes through to the logical conclusion. Just like with the fractals /ascended gear patch.

Just like their are single target skills that do absurd damage, the same goes for AOE. Both need nerfed and who is to say the single target ones are getting nerfed as well. Why should some AOE skills literally do more damage than a single target melee attacks? The answer is they shouldn’t thus the nerf.

Of course they do more damage thats the idea. If the issue is that too many aoes can be spammed in a short time then they should cost more like increasing the cooldown, not changing the damage. But the classes affected should receive a buff in another area to compensate.

They implied that there are people complaining about aoe spam, I haven’t seen many if any complaints about it. The complaints are more around the 5 character limit and then there are complaints about the overall weakness of aoe specs like staff eles.

Seriously, I thought you had already made decisions about ascended gear being made available by February in all areas of the game including WvW. This sounds like you haven’t actually made a decision about including ascended gear in WvW. To introduce full ascended gear sets to other areas but not WvW would be a huge mistake.

Im actually interested to see how they “nerf” the AOE’s. Elementalist being the clear target, just deals ton of damage with staff, but other AOE’s like necro staff AOE’s apply bleeds/transfer conditions and that is really all they do in a condition build. Even if you smacked all AOE damage hard, that would have little effect on a condition necromancer. Also Epidemic does not damage whatsoever, but has a huge AOE impact if the target is bleeding heavily.

And yet staff eles are not as strong as D/D eles. This would nerf them more.

That is just utter silliness. WvW has a 5 character restriction on aoe how is it too strong or gaming the system? WvW is arguably too zergy as it it is, this stands to make it even worse. Is this what anet wants?

Such changes should be given very very careful consideration and buffs given in other areas for specs like staff eles to compensate. I’d also want to see hard evidence of what they consider players gaming the system with aoes.

Except its not strong in WvW with the 5 character restriction. Besides whilst they can balance for sPVP separately I don’t think they can for WvW only which has the same balance as the PVE side.

On the face of it this proposed change is just utterly ridiculous especially for specs like staff eles that are nothing but aoe. Like the poster above me stated the effect on WvW will just be greater zerging, as it is the restriction of damage to only 5 people leads to more zerging this will just make it worst.

Anet if this is a change for sPVP please do it for sPVP only and I’d want to see iron clad justifications for making the change in PvE and WvW.

I’ve seen many players complaining about server recruitment in this forum so I’d like to address that.

FA is not a bandwagon server trying to recruit even more people. This is our 9th week in T3 and we have not come in 1st place during any of those weeks. Our fairweathers have long gone and we have lost some guilds throughout our stay in this tier. We are still here fighting because we love this level of competition and it would be a shame if we dropped. T1/T2 isn’t even being discussed. We just want to become more competitive in this tier which won’t be possible if we don’t recruit to get our population back in line with our opponents.

If they do this I want to see an ironclad justification and evidence from the devs about why they feel its needed and buffs in other areas for classes affect ie. staff eles.

AOEs like meteor show are more about area control than damage if an opponent is too stupid to get caught in the middle of it then tough luck.

From latest Live Stream from Arena Net we can say for sure that AoE dmg will be nerfed so ….. I can throw away my Staff Dps Ele.
Really – AoE dmg is so OP?? Maybe at WvW it is possible but what else left for me in PvE?

What did they say about it exactly? If they do nerf it staff eles better receive buffs in other areas to compensate.

DAOC had a similar system in its mid to-later development I think, where if you healed your team mates, rezzed, temporarily buffed them etc, it would award you some xp/realm points for doing so.

IIRC swtor did too if it led to a kill.

Just on the level 80 thing, when you enter wvw you get scaled to 80 from whatever level you were. However, you will likely be no match for an actual level 80 with exotic gear. Get your guy up to 80, gear him out and come back into wvw. The difference will be night and day.

Funny thing is because of the way they do upscaling you’re better off being below 80 if you’re still in greens. Look to have your exotic set ready by the time you hit 80.

With guesting, your characters can play on any world where you have friends—with certain restrictions. For instance, you will not be able to participate in WvW while guesting.

Clearly states you’ll be able to play on any world you have friends on. The restrictions refer to certain features being unavailable (WvW), not that the worlds you can guest on will be restricted.

No, it does not state that clearly. The certain restrictions still pertain to the “any world” part of the statement. They gave an example of one of the restrictions, not all of them.

They should have stated it as another restriction, it doesn’t really hint at guesting not being available between regions. By using WvW as an example it implies the restrictions they are talking about relates to the content not on servers themselves. This should have been communicated much sooner.

This intriguing little snippet of info came up in the last thread we had about this topic, and coupled with the acknowledgment that they have live teams constantly monitoring each zone, it’s players, rewards, etc,

If thats the case why are there still blatant botters? On my server last night apparently there was a large group in Frostgorge.

And one thing that I found interesting in that quote from Robert Hrouda is that he referred to farmers not botters.

Find a guild/party, get on TS, work as a group and you’ll have a lot of fun!

I couldn’t agree with this more. It makes a huge difference to be on voice comms for WvW even if you’re just listening.

As an oceanic player its because we have hardly any oceanic or asian population any more. The majority of players on during oceanic prime time seem to be NA players playing late, the fact that we skew older means most of them have jobs and can’t play late during the week. Its becoming a bit disheartening for those oceanics left.

You understand Kaineng is coming and they are another large asian server.

We look like getting IOJ next week and they have a large oceanic population.

Chat System Improvements?

  • Implementing different channels for guilds would be nice too. (Maybe have it so when a guild member speaks, their guild tag is included beside their name so you know whose talking from where)

For those guilds with over 500 members and hence more than 1 guild, the ability to link the guild chat for the mutiple guilds. This is a must, its really difficult for my guild.

The info on guilds is not detailed at all basically consisting of motherhood statements. Rather than stuff like guild missions anet should focus first on guild tools such as guild alliance chat (for guilds over the 500 limit) and guild management tools eg. showing when players last logged on.

Paid Transfers is not such a good idea. Why not just not allow people who transfer servers to play in WvW for one week. This would stop people from transferring for WvW purposes.

It means money for the company and share holders….that’s why.

This isn’t some new evil plot to make more money. This was the way it was in Beta and as it was always planned to be. They have been very kind and allowed free transfers for significantly longer then they originally planned. From what I remember the original plan was to stop free transfers 1 month after launch.

It is a way to make money though, but a reasonable one given they will be implementing guesting. Unless you want to change servers for WvW purposes you can just simply guest on another server. God knows I’ve got my complaints about anet but this isn’t one of them except the length of time its taken to implement.

Paid server transfer is a really bad idea. Why should we have to pay because Anet overlooked an obvious flaw in their game ? I’m new to the game and i picked my server because i thought it would have a good WvW population. Why should i / people new to the game be punished or have to pay to transfer because we have absolutely no way of knowing what servers are active WvW servers other than some ones " opinion " on a random forum ?

Um, look at the tiers, servers in the tiers 1-3 all have good WvW populations.

Mesmer interesting class but very boring to play least in my opinion. Greatsword is totally boring on a mesmer especially.

So don’t use a GS, on my mes I mainly use sword/torch and staff. Mes is really fun to play.

Anet understood this in PVE, as more people joined an event, it scaled up in difficulty with more mobs, more health on them, etc. A reward should be commensurate to the level of difficulty. If you are doing something incredibly easy the reward should be less.

Weight every point tic by the population of each server at each tic.

Last week I singlehandedly defended a keep (without guild buffs) against a group of 20-25 invaders who tried setting up two arrow carts.

No offence but you would only have been able to do that against dumb opponents.

I truly hope ncsoft or nexon come in and tutor/replace those who are making the decisions with someone who has a vision and will develop that vision with the community and stay on target and communicate with the players. That is the only way I see this game making it anywhere because it is right on track with Tor.

This is funny, its most probably because of ncsoft/nexon influence that the game is in the state its in.

But the cash shop IS pay to win. There might be bugger all in the gem store that I might buy other that slot upgrades and MAYBE instant repair canisters, but, and that is a huge BUT, you can convert those gems in to in-game gold, at which point you can buy pretty much anything in the game…including legendary weapons, if you so choose the spend that kind of coin. Isn’t this essentially the definition of pay to win?

No.

Pay to win is about obtaining an advantage over other players solely via the cash shop. Nothing in there at this stage gives a player an advantage over another player which isn’t also available via in game means.

This doesn’t mean the cash shop with RMT is a good thing though.

I mean, if people are supposed to be rewarded by “doing what they want to do” as Colin Johanson has stated, then why is ArenaNet letting people get far greater rewards than those of us actually playing the game (that can’t be bothered to keep constant track over what materials are going to increase in price from day-to-day)?

Players don’t get rewarded for doing what they want to do, except for maybe just playing the game. Everything beyond that has been made a tedious grind. Set a goal beyond getting your initial exotic set and it will take a grind because of all the anti-player mechanisms and nerfs anet have implemented. This is one of the most unrewarding games I’ve played and the statements from anet are completely contradictory to the reality of the game.
