Your build link is broken. It says “bad link”
Just thought I should let you know.
You need to copy and paste the link, the forum has a problem with some urls.
I think at that point there will be only 3 or 4 servers populated and most people will simply leave the game.
I can easily see WvW reducing to only a few servers.
The point that you’re missing is that the waypoint method of defense is a lame, unfun gimmick that happens to improve the ability to defend a keep.
So thats a gimmick but presumably you feel that knocking on a keep/tower door to contest it then leave when you’re not actually sieging it yet isn’t a gimmick.
To Mike Ferguson if you’re still monitoring this thread what do you feel about those sort of actions from attackers?
Keep in mind that Friday evening is Saturday afternoon for East Asia and Australia. So seeing a few more of them on at reset isn’t unprecedented.
Reset is at 11.00 am Australian eastern daylight saving time, so yes almost afternoon :-).
I think Fractals broke Tyria by creating a separate effectively unrelated world with its own progression path and better gear.
- Want to explore, like story, and don’t mind having a less powerful character? Play in Tyria.
- Want to keep increasing the power of your character? Leave Tyria and go to the Fractals (or spend your time working the TP).
This is true but its more than that, its the fact that rewards in tyria overall are significantly less than in fractals.
Not trying to brag here but if anyone came up DB pending more NA transfers would be the best canidate.. Simple enough we have the Oceanic coverage to handle it. Our Oceanic guilds do have experience in higher tiers, I am pretty sure they will enjoy the challenge again. We still lack NA coverage though our NA crew is used to being double teamed hard during this time as it is the best strategy for the servers facing us. Yaks would do well as well but lack the Oceanic coverage (and this is harder to get through transfers). DB is where it belongs at the moment.
YB was in T3 for 3 or so weeks and competed well.
How is that a “tactical decision” when DB can clearly outnumber both servers combined during off peak hours?
Their asian pop is irrelevant at that point, its a smart tactical decision because they obviously only have enough NA pop to properly deal with 3 BL on reset and they don’t want to spread themselves thinly.
Yak’s Bend doesn’t seem to have much effort in their WvW scene and relied on Maguuma being bad and Ehmry Bay being ganked.
Ehmry Bay gets double-teamed by everybody.
Oh please stop with the pity party given ebay were the benefit of DBs focus on YB last week, allowing you to focus on us as well and keep us down. BTW I fought on ebay BL on reset and just on that BL YB was often beset by both ebay and DB.

The real issue keeps getting lost here.
This entire issue is very selective. Some people have it, some people don’t, it comes and goes for some and seems to be permanently on for others.
Which is most probably because they have a complex DR system with bugs. IF they’ve dealt with the majority of botting there is no need for DR and they should get rid of it and simply tweak overall drop rates to manipulate the market, stop trying to individualise these systems.
Did this patch somehow only affect the connectivity of your server but not the other two?
I’ve seen it happen, maybe there can be delays in a server reconnecting. The OP is right though it can have huge implications for the server that can’t get back in.
I would also like to know i placed multiple sieges in our keep built them came back 20 mins and 10 acs and 2 catapults despawned. Yet some of the siege i built remained
Its been said that siege placed on the ground doesn’t despawn.
tis ok mag will be back up in this tier in place of YB with in a couple of weeks imo
Why would you want that?
What happened to Yaks Bend? They were more competitive last week when it was EB, Magumma, and YB.
Go EB!
1. DB nullifies our main advantage, the same thing happened with YB/DB/Mag 2 weeks ago.
2. Our downturn this week appeared to correspond with the working week with significant numbers probably returning to work after xmas.
You realize that players dictate what price the stuff on the trading post is, not ANet, right?
You realise people buy the runes using gold bought from gems thus driving up the price right.
For me, it’s not the TP that is the problem but rather the addition of real money trading. A gold TP could simply be an efficient mechanism for trading valuable items that you have no use for or to realize the fruits of your farming/crafting. .
Yeah this is correct its not the TP in isolation, its the combination with rmt.
The problem u will have for the most part is. Winner moves up and gets blown away. Loser drops down and blows away that tier.
Servers move down now and still blow away the tier below and servers moving up now don’t necessarily get blown away eg. Dragonbrand.
Just imagine a tier 1 server drops to tier 2 and a tier 3 server goes up to tier 2. They will most likely not stand a chance
Tarnished Coast moved to Tier 2 and competed and has stayed there. IOJ didn’t blow tier 3 away.
This game is so beholden to the TP, that its slowly becoming not fun to me anymore. Blizzard made this mistake with Diablo 3. ArenaNet seems to want to follow in its footsteps. Sad thing is even Blizzard realized (maybe too late for most) that loot needed to be fun and rewarding, it is not anymore in GW2.
I hate you Trading Post. You are ruining a game i loved.
I largely agree, its at the point now where I prefer subscription based games to F2P because the devs won’t need to be so beholden to the TP and RMT. Before the game was out I thought arenanet would be able to control it but they can’t.
Join a WvW guild and roll with them in WvW. I’m sustaining myself now largely through levelling alts up through WvW.
Frankly i am shocked by the responses happening in the forums. Everyone is going crazy, moaning about endgame or WvW or Spvp.
Game has been out since August. Give it time. YOUR NOT PAYING A SUB!!!!, just come back once they started adding in new features.
Take WoW for instance.
At launch it had nothing compared to what it has now. It didn’t even have PvP at launch.
You can’t compare an mmo of several years ago to an mmo now. GW2 has to compete with WOW in its current incarnation.
As for giving them time if TESO was out or Bioware had improved swtor or possibly even if Darkfall2 had released I wouldn’t be playing GW2 now. They are lucky that they’re in a spot without all that much competition. MMOs devs no matter if they’re free to play or not need to be more agile in responding to issues. or teh market will move, it happened with swtor.
As for the criticism itself arenanet has largely dug a hole for itself.
So many tiers have so many good close battles going on even this week. I think the system is working well and a system that didn’t account for margin of victory would be a lot more dull than the current system.
Yes sometimes there are blowouts and sometimes servers stay in the same tier for too long despite winning or losing consistently but I think a better solution would be to increase the amount of rating gained and lost instead of going to a generic system like the one stated.
Blowouts aren’t the problem any more, the problem with the current matching system is static tiers for a number of weeks. We only really needed the scoring system to establish initial rankings, its not need now that server pops are more stable, and indeed from all reports the glicko system wasn’t designed to work in a system like WvW is now.
What would be the problem with winning sever going up losing going down? There may be a yo yo effect from week to week but at least there would be more variety.
WvW (mainly levelling alts thru WvW now), farm the rich ori node, do dungeons and fractals 2-3 times a week., do a dragon when the urge strikes me.

I’d like to at least see a comment from arenanet on where they feel the matching process is.
There is no INTENTIONAL double team. DB focused on you because you were in 2nd. Now that your in 3rd we are TRYING to focus on suppressing EB.
Well you weren’t 9-12 hours ago. YB slipped to clear 3rd 48 or so hours ago. 9-12 hours ago we were still losing ground to ebay but the DB focus was still all on YB.
Not complaining, just asking the question, it seemed strange to me at that stage that you would focus on the server in last place rather than 2nd.
deleted double post

Give some credit to EB too not like they are not helping in your little alliance. Maybe YB should of not turned down offer from EB to go 2v1 against DB this week so could of made up for NA morning DB capping. But alas some thought it was cheesy to do this and EB then went to DB to work with. Oh well suck is nature of WvWvW.
What offer?
The problem is really the worst of the players coming to the forums to whine, and others being too puppy to actually debate.
At least some of of what I listed is not really up for debate:
- Ascended items are clearly against their original manifesto
- Loot drops from the open world and DEs are significantly less than fractals or dungeons
- class balance is still poor
- they are moving very slowly to fix issues eg. culling
etc etc
EB took over second place today and has now built a substantial lead on YB. I must say that is unexpected. Will EB suffer from a double team the next 2 and half days due to new position. It should be interesting.
Given that as I type the DB has taken over most of the YB area of EB and their zerg is attacking YBBL as I type I’d say not.
I’d ask the same question that was asked of ebay 2 days ago why are DB seemingly concentrating solely on YB.
OK just looked at the wiki and there are others like Jon Peters and Eric Flannum who worked on GW1.
Who are the GW1 devs who are still there? Jon Peters?
Basically no one, if that wasn’t blatantly apparent.
Not even Jon Peters?
When you:
- are perceived as breaking promises and core ideals
- having poor class balance which is getting worse
- release content patch after content patch with more and more bugs
- are perceived as not moving fast enough in improving the game and fixing issues
- appear to be funnelling players towards buying gems
- have one of the more unrewarding games around
- are perceived as screwing with players via anti player practices like DR
- are perceived generally as providing poor live support
then there will be negativety.
Could it be that the engine GW2 uses just cannot handle so many players due to bad programming?
Of course it is, its bad design and bad programming.
When we are at it-when did Colin join ANet? He is not in the Faction credits. Maybe when work on GW2 started? Cuz I sure as hell don’t remember him from GW1-he just jumped out of nowhere and started talking nonsense. “We took everything you loved about GW1 and made it 3x better”-how would you know that Colin? Hell, I started playing before you arrived(at least I think so).
On topic: I feel GW1 within GW2. Faintly, but it is there. Sadly, it feels Like today’s ANet is totally different ANet from the GW1 heyday. Shame…
Who are the GW1 devs who are still there? Jon Peters?
I’ve put up with a lot of bugs like that for a while but the Giver’s items feel like a final gigantic slap to the face. It’s not that I want to use these items badly but for that issue to have entered the game, it could only mean there was ZERO testing done on it in the first place. And when the problem has surfaced they make an equally similar ZERO effort to acknowledge it. This is not professional integrity.
Its pretty clear that the review and QA processes at anet are virtually non-existant. Seems to me that they lack the resources to properly support an mmo of this scale.
I expect anet to address this in the upcoming jan/feb updates by adding more incentives to run around Orr.
I dunno if I can see them doing it because the only think that would save it for a large number of people is to restore the drop rates and/or stop the DR. Given that anet refuse to acknowledge any problem exists I can’t see them doing anything along those lines.
Good for them, it was a bs reason for a perma-ban in the first place. I’d still be kitten for the hundreds of hours I lost since some of the players I know that got banned were pretty loyal and active with over 1000 hours logged on their accounts.
At least they got their money back tho.
I’m curious, they must have made hundreds of gold to get banned from what I understand, did they think they were exploiting?
The saddest thing for me is that the zone is incredibly detailed and ripe for exploration. Many times as I was sprinting/swimming toward a quest point or a roundabout route to the next waypoint, I would notice (as i was being clubbed to death by risen) how tragically beautiful the zone actually was, how much detail went into the creation of it’s decay and corruption, and how it’s too bad hardly anyone will ever see most of it anymore.
This ties in with the complaint about arenanet having built this beautiful world and are now seemingly trying to shoehorn people away from it into instances. The majority of complaints seem to relate to there being not enough players around, so either entice players back or adjust the enemies in the zone to reflect the actual number of players who are there.
On the day after i returned, I did Claw, Teq and Shatterer , 2 golds from Claw, 2 golds from Teq, 1 gold and 3 greens from Shatterer. DR is clearly in place on the chests or anything else you do once you activate it by farming
just my humble opinion, as i can verify it.
I don’t farm much (mainly do WvW, dungeons and fractals) so DR of that type shouldn’t hit me, however when I do decide to do one of the dragons I get mainly blues, if I get a yellow its usually one of those useless crests. The whole jormag chain every time I do it I get virtually nothing apart from the chest now.
There’s merit in this theory, but we have to remember dungeons and the like are instanced areas, so one would have to guess there’s a loot table for dungeons, whereas the world that people spawn out into has it’s own loot table. Considering there’s many more people out in the live world in any area at any given time, you’d think that there would be a much larger loot pool depending on where they were, level, etc. but I see a disparity between what drops in a dungeon for instance, and what people seem to be getting in the live world. I believe this is where the “permanent DR” scenario is coming in.
If this is the case why don’t they just say so? I personally don’t like such a system because its designed purely around the economy of the game and as players increase the number of exotics found per player would decrease thereby creating more demand and rising prices.
You are correct, in that the total number of items should increase as the player count increases which would make the economy more static.
Sorry, but you don’t get to just pretend that 16 hours of the day doesn’t exist in wvw.
It’s 24/7, nothing else.
You’re mistaking my comment for a complaint, its not, merely an observation and you will note that I am actually on YB. The server populations and demographics are what they are.
There’s this weird mentality on most servers that Americans are the only legitimate people. Oceanics I guess should just not play GW2 since they don’t have their own servers.
Thats a weird comment given that I am actually in Australia.
To be fair (And this honestly isn’t a troll post),
If two out of three servers in tier 4 don’t belong in tier 4, wouldn’t it make more sense that the third server belongs in tier 3 instead? o;
We’re talking about the NA coverage only. YB has excellent oceanic coverage which is why DB nullifies us.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
I disagree. I think DB NA prime is Tier 4. Maybe not the top of tier 4 but we are there.
I personally think its probably tier 5 but then again so probably is YB.
And to top it off, the reward is not worth the effort. You are rewarded a random lottery chest. So if I go in there and play my Mesmer, I expect to be able to get tokens or something to get Mesmer gear. No. I get a lottery chest that gives me random gear. Because I totally want heavy armor on my Mesmer. It is frustrating to say the least.
There is just no incentive to play it.
This, this is the big thing along with class balance and the culling in WvW, the sheer lack of reward for activities.
This happened because the original design of the traits was all traits being available at every level. They changed it after BWE1 or 2 without really doing the work they should have to make the tiered trait system work as it should.
The bottom line is, I am not really able to play the game the way I want to. In my 5 years in GW1, I could do this, because I had my henchmen and heroes. In the GW2 early, ‘rewarding" days, including beta weekends, lots of other players were there to level the playing field.
Now, because of what THIS thread is about, players seem to have become inwardly focussed (can’t blame them), leaving lowly (and new) players to fight their way through a very difficult, unrewarding world where the only way to advance, is to power level a toon and then live off dungeon-running to acquire whatever items they desire.
This is a really perceptive comment about the effect that the lack of rewards has on players and how they play. Its been said before but this is a remarkably unrewarding game and it has a psychological effect on a large number of players (not all) in terms of turning them off simply just playing the game.
Without ArenaNet coming out and clearing up how diminished returns work
Its becoming abundantly clear that arenanet needs to come out and do exactly this.
Guild tools, its silly that these were not simply just ported to GW2.
Flamethrower melts thieves.
Yep on my engy I look for thieves, especially those in daggerstorm, they are a great counter class. Take plenty of toughness so you can survive their burst then with the juggernaut trait and the flamethrower – thief melting time.
Watch, this will be like the Ranger Crossfire “fix.”
When this thread is long gone, the devs won’t give a kitten about it and keep the GCD on shatters.
Not to mention other supposedly temp fixes that are still in game. Its becoming a pattern, clearly they put such issues on a lower priority list to be fixed when they get time to.
And to the guy who says dye drops “regularly” in PvE: Your definition of “regularly” is certainly different from mine. I regularly get Porous Bones. I rarely get dye. Hell, I get yellows more often than I get dyes, and I hardly ever get yellows!
I’m exactly the same.
