It’s sooo much better for me it’s amazing, I don’t understand why others are having different results o.o
For me its far more inconsistent with enemies and allies (and even siege) appearing then disappearing. The performance is also far worse, the lag in large battle is the worst its ever been and I upgraded my video card just before the change.
The problem isn’t that Anet is listening. The problem is their response time. They needed to be using insider knowledge to govern instead of reacting to player’s reactions.
What was drastically needed weeks ago in such a changing environment could potentially be the worst action in this week’s environment.
Yep this has been my contention all along. The action they’re taking this week should have been taken a month ago. The issues of a month ago about unbalanced matchups have improved and next week if all was normal they would just about be fully resolved.
There is no disconnection. With all the transfers & last minute transfers many tiers
are totally loop sided ( 3 tiers where the leading server has more points than the other 2 combined ).
These matchups this week are nothing on the unbalanced matchups of a month ago and would be sorted out in another week.
What makes you think the higher levels are supposed to drop the same stuff as the lower levels only with ascended gear on top of that?
That would be OK if we received the same proportion of rare/exotic/ascended loot overall with the chance slowly moving to ascended as we get higher but it seems we don’t. The drop in chance for rares doesn’t match the increase in chance for ascended.
Maybe leaving SoR which was heavily bandwagoned for a less populated one could help also.
Edit: didn’t mean original post to sound catty.
There has been feedback from others on lower tier servers that queues are also happening there. Anet appear to have decreased the pop limit and this may have exacerbated the issues with the inconcistency in the queueing. Plus even on the higher tiers the queues are far far longer than they were when free transfers stopped.
Voted. For me atm it’s worse. Now enemies, friendlies and also siege weapons and npc (commander npc) appear and disappear randomly from my screen… Also this happens in big scale battles but also in small scale one. That’s really confusing.
Same its worse, at least before there was some consistency.
A new official statement would be nice!!
They’ve given you plenty of official statements. The queues are the result of a large number of people transferring to a small subset of servers. Hell, they even referenced this fact as one of the reasons they did the ranking reset.
As has been stated before the OTT queues didn’t start until this reset, a week after free transfers stopped. And its not only the top tier servers experiencing the problem.
Related to the OTT queues is also the problem of inconsistent populations between servers on the 1 map which has received no comment whatsoever.
Technical issue is most servers have gained a couple hundred people, top tier probably upwards of a thousand if not more, new match ups, more people playing in anticipation of PvP patch. Did you expect to gain all these people and not have an issue? Have you forgotten the multi hour queues at release and in beta? Those servers everyone fled? No queue, no issue.
Have you forgotten this is the second week since free transfers stopped. The queues last week were not nearly as bad.
Every person I see complaining about long queues are in tiers 1-3.
No they aren’t have a read of some of these threads.
Super long queues on SOS as well but that may be expected.
The amount of QQing on this thread is ridiculous. It seems like everyone is saying “I transferred to a Tier 1/2/3 server so I could be in Tier 1/2/3! Now I won’t be in Tier 1/2/3 anymore! WAHHHHH!!!”
Er no, that is a complete mischaracterisation of the argument. Which is it will create completely unbalanced matchups for the next 3-4 weeks probably.
I’ll ask this for what feels like the thousandth time. For what aspect of this game are you required to grind? I’m seriously feeling like I’m talking to a bunch of five year old children who don’t know the meaning of the words they’re using.
BiS stats (or close to it) is a requirement for a lot of people to ensure they are optimally geared to be sure they can clear content with a minimum of wipes, you might not deem it as a requirement but thats a matter of opinion.
True, cant wait till they let you get them with badges.
They won’t, simply because too many players will have a store of badges and they won’t want players being able to buy a full set immediately with a stockpile of badges and/or karma.
Its not necessarily about being rewarded its about having goals and objectives.
Yes they made WvW more fun, anet should have simply changed the buff from the orbs. They took the easy way out.
After that they willl be back to being so stuffed up for several (up to 10) resets that it will again not be fun in WvW and our casual PvX players will simply stay away. Alot will not only stay away from WvW but GW2 altogether ………….Maybe even permanently !!!!
Yes I’d really like a response from anet on the fact that this is a probable effect of the proposed reset and that there will likely be unbalanced matchups for 2-4 weeks while the system gets back to equilibrium, which is too long. Honestly I don’t think anet realise how long a week really is and the effect on players.
Last night my son and I were in WvW in EB as a two man party. He logged out of the game entirely to go to bed ( I know for a fact that he did) but his dot still showed on the map where he had been when he quit. His dot went away when I left our party, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the game does not properly recognize when a player simply logs out of the game instead of leaving WvW first. Maybe it only happens when a player is in a party or maybe it happens all the time, but it’s pretty certain that something is messed up with how ANet manages player queues in WvW.
I’ve noticed the same thing so it sounds logical that this is an explanation for map, pops being less than what they should be. These dynamic adjustments are a recipe for disaster because anets programming simply isn’t that good. Multiple game systems that rely on some sort of dynamic adjustment are clearly bugged in some fashion, not just WvW maps.
I know on TC I’ve queued for 45 minutes to get in to WvW and had a friend queue up after I did, wait 10 minutes and get in. To me, that’s very strange, why would anyone who queued after someone else, get in before them?
This issue was meant to be fixed but is still there. I’ve had the same thing happen to me and its one thing that does make me wonder about whether there is an issue with the maximum population actually being on the map.
What I’ve been seeing the past couple-few nights on TCBL doesn’t jive with what I’ve seen on TCBL for the past several months. I’m looking at TC’s side. SoR doesn’t come into it (aside from its holdings, which actually gives TCers fewer places to be spread out at).
Having a 20 minute queue, and then only being able to muster 20-or-so folks for Break Outs at the Citadel is pretty dang peculiar.
I’m on SOS and used to be on YB and have noticed something similar on both servers. Last night on SOS borderlands we appeared to be clearly outnumbered by JQ but there was a queu to get on.
I need exotic. Why? It is called STATS. If you didn’t know exotic has better stats no comment.
I’d refer you to the wiki but I’m a bit lazy.Aaaaaaaand you’ve (unsurprisingly) once again failed to respond to the most important issue at hand. In what aspect of the game can I not participate unless I’m wearing exotic armor? I’m BEGGING you to answer that question. You won’t, because you can’t. To do so destroys the entire premise of your argument.
If you’re good enough you can presumably use all whites.
Greater stats give you a better chance of success at whatever you’re doing in the game so yes there is a need there.
none, I won’t be going back there.
You’re once again ignoring the key point to this whole discussion. Want vs need. You want a full set of exotic armor. You do not need a full set of exotic armor. Let me ask you this; what can you do in a 70 gold set of exotic armor that I cannot do in a 5 gold set of rare armor?
For significantly increased stats there is a definite need there.
I think you’re missing the word “REQUIRE” from the OP. There is a grind, but it’s completely optional
In other messages I’ve said its optional, the issue is there is virtually nothing tangible to achieve at level 80 except for going for the shinies.
Ah so now the argument shifts! It’s “BUT THERE’S NO ENDGAME!”.
And now you know why all those other MMOs are carrot chasers. Because otherwise, people blow through the existing content too fast and whine that there is nothing left to do.
So devs make content that takes a bit more time (with albeit some repetition) and people whine “BUT THAT’S GRINDING!”.
IE, if you don’t like the game, stop playing, don’t whine about the genre.
Only argument shifting is by you. I didn’t say anything about no endgame.
As for why I’m still playing the base game play is good, I like world vs world, there is no competition at the moment, and I am in great guilds with great guildies that elevate the game. But if TESO was out I’d be off like a shot.
So where are the laurel vendors?

This is one the thing that really bugs me about this game. They say they don’t want us grinding, and have implemented code, under the weak guise of controlling bots, to punish us for grinding. However, many of the the craftable items in the game, legendaries being the worst, require so much materials, and ultra rare material, that if you don’t grind for it, you’ll never get it. 500 badges of honor? 500 dungeon tokens? 77 mystic clovers? Countless amounts of ecto? No…none of this is grind at all. In all the ~400 casual hours I’ve played this game, I rarely farm…if ever, I have 100% PvE map completion and have NEVER had a lodestone or a core drop of any kind…ever!! Really?
They say they don’t want us to grind, AND punish us for it, while at the same time building extreme grind in to the acquisition of most the desirable items/materials in the game. The hypocrisy of this is just astounding.
Yep this contradiction has been raised many times yet they clearly won’t do anything about it. Its not just legendaries even farming to craft normal level 80 exotics becomes a grind. As others have said the latest patch makes it clear that the system is working as intended and Anet are just unwilling to admit it.

GW2 set out to be different and it is. Without grinding, you can have pretty much every slot with BiS items, some even right at the very moment you ding 80 for the first time.
No you can’t.
The fact that the grind isn’t as bad as some other games doesn’t mean there is no grind.
I don’t think they’ve ever deemed it as a bug, read the stickied thread at the top about sharing loot drop behaviour. They pretty much haven’t even acknowledged there’s a problem.
And loot drops from open world events haven’t improved for me since the patch.
First order of business remove diminishing returns
I think only Sword and bow are useful… The axe can be outplayed by many class weapons skills, the lighting hammer isn’t reliable and idk what the shield actually is good for.
Shield has a pull so you can pull enemies off walls.
It’s a lot of fun imo. If you have karma to spend the invader gear is great and makes you pretty op. it’s basically what ever lvl u buy it at so I’ve been upgrading it every 10 levels. As for money, well my main had lots so I can’t say if its realistic to make it monetarily, but the fun is well worth it.
He would be better off buying greens every 10 levels or so. The invader armor is overpriced IMHO even at low levels whereas greens are really cheap. Plus that way you save your karma to get an orr set at 80.
The game still has more grind than it should have.
However, the OP is, as others have mentioned, wrong. ArenaNet had to add a system that punishes grind, so grinders wouldn’t have more gold than casual players and thus add inflation to the game; and they did add such a system, seen as DR.
Actually no DR means more items on the TP means no or less inflation. The TP has ridiculous inflation, abyss dye for over 22 gold!! And DR was supposedly implemented to combat botters anyway.
DR in effect adds to grind because it makes farming activities into more of a grind than they would otherwise be.
Clearly the chests are bugged (what a surprise). I’ve had chests with white loot in them.
I am a huge critic of Anet and some of there practices, but i am far from delusional, most of the perceived grind is just player’s complaining about legendaries (which are not needed to be competitive with others).
Not really as someone stated on page 1 most of the endgame PvE goals are largely cosmetic hence the complaints about grind, even the goal of world completion is a grind given the repetitive nature of the heart quests. Then there’s fractals and ascended gear which is an undeniable grind. Yes you can just ‘play the game’ without grind but most players want some sort of goal.
I mainly WvW as such I want the most appropriately statted gear possible for my toons. Getting that is a grind because the karma armour is restricted in terms of stats, and the low drop rates and DR make farming for crafting mats for the perfect set a grind.
No. I want more horizontal progression in terms of more weapon skills either by expanding the number of weapons each class can wield or by introducing a deck building aspect to weapon skills allowing us to pick and choose weapon skills.
Hopefully this helps some of you feel a little better about why we’re doing this. We really think this is going to be better for the game in the long run, even if it may be a bit bumpy until we have a couple matches completed post-reset.
Thanks for your response but you should address the issue that a number of people have raised about blowouts in a low tier causing the winning server in that low tier to be ranked in T1 the following week especially given that the T1 match will not be a blow out.
Seriously? How many threads have been raised about this already? The first monthly for laurels is February. This was known even last week.
A small tip is that shades do take condition damage. While it is far better to just go into the portal to damage them sometimes it isn’t an option so if you have aoe bleeds / epidemic just throw it out there to help all you can. Also staying clumped is asking for a full wipe. Try to stagger spread so only 1/4 of your group dies each time, and don’t forget swiftness for the run back!
Run back from where? Anchorage waypoint? Thats a long run.
Being there on my necromancer, I can say it was a truly awesome feeling even if the fight is borderline unfair. Actually that sort of made defeating him all the sweeter.
You just have to get lucky and watch the animation when he is casting and hope you dodge the correct way.
If its a matter of luck how is that fair?
I’m kinda embarrassed being part of this community right now. The vocal minority is showing an obscene level of disrespect to the developers.
How about anet respect the players more.
A simple system of “winner go to next tier” and “loser goes to a lower tier” would work. They can keep the total score of the year as a reference.
Yep, the perfect solution.
relax people…. this is only temporary… yes whichever servers blow out in the next match up will be in upper tiers in the week after that, but the situation will come back to where it is now after a month… we can wait a month can’t we ?
Actually if you’re on a server like YB for the past 3 weeks it has been nothing but blow outs against servers with lopsided populations so no its hardly fair to ask them to possibly go through another few weeks of being pummeled.
It seems ludicrous to do this given that next week the tiers will have stabilised with Kaineng finally moving into a bracket which properly reflects their population. This needed to be done a month ago but is redundant now.
If it is going to result in lopsided matches they need to shorten the matches again until the new ratings stablise/
Nice way to convert karma to gold (although they banned people for it earlier lol) and help lower lodestone prices.
God forbid they actually increase lodestone drop rates actually out in the world. Wouldn’t want to try and entice people back out into the world would they.
Honestly this just sounds like more RNG highjinks some people will get lucky, others won’t and will complain.
Does anyone else die a little inside to see ArenaNet chose to further solidify the further intrusive hand of RNG into the game? We finally get that use for karma we’ve all wanted, it’s just locked behind more RNG. Can’t they just price out the items for high karma costs rather than forcing us to gamble for everything? I just, man, it sucks.
I agree.

Some of regard having to do dailies 35 times to get BiS gear as a grind. Not a big one but still a grind.
I can’t believe the quality control is so bad at ANet that every single patch has so many bugs, many of which never truly get fixed.
Notice also that the game’s economy is so badly inflated that Abyss dye is now going for 22G+?
How the hell is that justifiable?
They’ve rolled back the combo killer daily achievement obviously they need to rollback this as well.
Look dude before you bust out your pitchforks and rally all the hillbillies around to attack Frankenstein take a deep breath and realize. That number #1 people like getting new gear in these types of games. #2 Dailies aren’t a treadmill, they happen naturally while you play the game.
25 underwater kills happen naturally?
If you don’t like crafting how does having to craft happen naturally?
Specifically having 10 combo kills happens naturally?
4 of 6 options are coming in a later patch…just be patient people. They said long ago that this patch was just setting up the systems that will be introduced.
They shouldn’t have changed it until they were ready to introduce the options then. This is very similar to what happened with other errrors in introducing new content eg. ascended gear.
Anet just don’t learn, its becoming a pattern. Patch it in when the full system is ready, not half of it.
Just confirmed they didn’t fix the glitch spots in Bay or Hills.
So what terrain glitches did they fix? Bizarre to fix some but not the 2 most prominent and abused glitches.
I hate that world transfers cost money now. I’m on a mostly dead server and I haven’t played this game for months because of it. New patch comes along, and now it costs money to transfer servers. Bleh.
They announced it in advance you had the opportunity to move.
Because the priest now has extra abilities?
Anet seems to have not tested this in normal gameplay with random people, and just used idealized scenarios and called it good. Some poor QC.
Yep which is just par for the course with anets testing.
