Well, see, they can’t have you making money. That would go totally against their anti-grind philosophy, you see. That’s also why they capped World Boss chests to one per day. They’ve said they don’t want players repeating events over and over to farm them.
Of course, what this perspective fails to understand is that there’s nothing inherently wrong with people farming if it’s something they enjoy doing. I, for example, like killing the Shatterer, but now that he doesn’t properly reward me, I don’t waste time killing him at all any more.
I actually like the way open world loot works now, I can farm each dragon on alts I can go to each events that spawns a chest and get similar loot from each, I can farm higher level areas and get reasonable drops…… Dungeons are also great being able to farm them on alts now. WvW is also much better for loot. The odd one out is fractals.
WvW ranks & abilities are character based. The best way to think of this system is as alternative/extended character progression.
This seems short sighted given previous games experience with similar issues. You force players into only using minimal characters which then leads to the game becoming stale for them far sooner.
Open world chest reward loot is better now. Everyone out of FotM and into open world.
Why not simply make everything the same?
The community backlash probably stunned them, since they did not expect anything of the sort. (Apparently, they were under the assumption that nobody played in guilds with less than 10-15 active people during weekends.)
This has been their problem with every single major patch so far, they lack the foresight or the resources to properly predict the ramifications of the content and the lack of testing means there is far less opportunity to pick up on these issues.
I agree with the OP fractal loot is now the worst in the game, the only reason to run them is for ascended items.
As a hardcore farmer who would spend hours upon hours running shelt/pen, the event has turned from the steady 5g/h farm into one less than half of that.
Mileage varies, I like the new system and with the better chances of good loot it has encouraged me to farm CS more. I make plenty of gold doing it, and the fights are more enjoyable. IMHO its the best recent change they’ve made to the game.

I think once ANet responds, small guilds will need to accept that guild missions are for larger guilds.
Maybe so but don’t attach BiS items to them then with a grind attached to the alternate means of obtaining them. Or put in place a guild alliance system. Its remarkably stupid how many good systems GW1 had which weren’t replicated in GW2.

Portals are hardly an overwhelming tactic any more. I only see them used in select situations.
Amount of neccessery influence is obviously favouring big guilds. But that’s not the reason to blame developers for. They choose what kind of content they create and for whom is it avalaible. It’s your choice that you chose a playstyle that is hindering your possibilities of playing. And truth is, noone is forbiding anything to anyone. Small guilds will get there, but it will take them several months instead just a few. It’s fair.
If this was in the beginning of the game you might have a point but it isn’t so you don’t. As the situation stands now it is inequitable coupled with the issues that are now arising with multiple guilds going after the 1 target, its close to mind boggling how bad the implementation is. They really really really need a test server.
There isn’t even a friendly guild to guild environment anymore. Everyone want a piece of the pie and noone wants anyone else to get it. So much fun!
Which goes against their mechanics of players helping other players. Hope you raised a support ticket.
SoS is a bit of a wildcard here, though they seem to be holding their own in T2 against 2 very strong servers so I suspect they’ll be too strong for the current T3 as well.
Ideally the gaps between each tier shouldn’t be as big as they are now such that occasional tier movements don’t immediately create blowout matches, but transfers lulz
SOS is now clearly too weak for current T2 and will replace either TC or FA in T3 in time.
With the changes in loot drops the game is far far better, crafting can be done at a decent pace. I’ve still got lots of complaints about ascended items, WvW and such though.
I did that event 3 times today and it wasn’t hard in any of them.
Well, at least I can say there’s been nothing tempting in the gem store other than account upgrades. I admit, I did expect Tera level of pumping out fabulous cosmetic items though. Even the 3 combat armor skins they have are disappointing compared to some of the ones available in GW1.
This is what I don’t get about the Gem Store, instead of putting items in it that we might actually be tempted to buy they’re prepared to compromise the game itself to funnel players towards buying gems via RMT. Its a very poor practice.
These issues would not exist if the game had a basic design much closer to guild wars 1, where you reached max level (20) very quickly, and then the majority of your character progression was essentially hunting for upgrades in a wide variety of equally leveled zones and/or unlocking new areas by progressing through core story zones.
The reason I bring it up is not to cry over spilled milk, but because I wonder whether ANET has really learned their lesson.
I agree with the point about being closer to GW1. As for learning their lesson this patch shows they aren’t, the same mistakes have been made throughout the games life to date.
What do you people want? You want the BEST gear in the game for a legion of alts in a matter of weeks? Please explain how that makes sense?
Well its what their manifesto stated, something that attracted a large number of people to the game, and in most mmos you can get it quickly if you’re prepared to grind for it. As some have said recently anet have done the whole vertical progression thing really badly.
We are planning to add more stat sets and appearance options that can be purchased with badges in the March update. We’re still working on the full list so I don’t want to dive into details yet, but it is something we’re working on.
A word of advice it should not be at similar prices to the invaders gear because that is way too expensive and doesn’t reflect the badge drop rate of the majority of players.
Pretty much no MMO ships with PvE, WvW and sPvP out of the box. Those that have, suffered bugs well beyond what ANet currently has. ANet could have kept WvW out of the game until the first major expansion but they didn’t and I for one am glad.
Culling affects the whole game not just WvW, and its not a bug its a fundamental design flaw that as the previous poster said never should have made it to launch.
To get 36.5k it’s as simple as getting the entire guild to devote half an hour of their time into running CoF 1 for a week if 3 runs generates 1g/person in a 10 man guild. Spend even more time in other dungeons, and that process only goes faster. This isn’t much compared to what lengths some people go to get what they want in game.
If you’re expecting to be able to do things just as easily in small guilds compared to big guilds, then that just sounds like entitlement. It’s completely practical, and even if it takes longer, it’s nothing close to what people are moaning about.
People throw around the word entitlement far too easily. This is an issue of inequity, sure small guilds can do what you say but large guilds don’t so why should smaller guilds just to have access? It is fundamentally inequitable and as has already been shown that leads to resentment. It is not entitlement to criticise such an issue.

does Anet really want to reduce w3 to 3 groups from 100 players, occuppying 50 square meters and only seeing 10 % of the players while not being able to pick up the loot fast enough at the same time ?

If you want to spent months earning gear it should be distinguished by LOOKS, not stats. He made that very very clear, just nobody in his team is listening to him. He must be locked in the basement somewhere.
In the reddit ama Mike O’Brien stated that the direction of the game with ascended gear did not violate the manifesto. So he’s as much to blame as anybody, maybe moreso given his position of power.
You can always buy the influence. slowly and surely

What if someone isn’t in a guild and doesn’t want to be? What if someone is in a small guild and has to take a long period of time to actually accomplish the missions? Why should they be forced to pay a much higher prices for these items or take far longer then those in a larger guild that can run the missions pretty much immediately? I find it amazing that you don’t realise by now how this sort of thing divides the community.
You probably wonder why this forum gets so toxic well this is a perfect example why.

Until release, the game is in the hands of a lead developer who has in their head the target customers of the game and a set of principles — the contract with the players, as it were — and in a hands on way imposes that on the entire development process. At release the game is handed to a live team which, not having had enough contact with the original lead dev (or worse thinking he acted out of ego) have not internalized who the customers are that must be retained, and what principles must never be violated if those customers’ trust is to be maintained.
Good analysis, in terms of the above it arguably happened with anet’s original manifesto and what the game has become. However it seems even the lead developers are now saying that the manifesto was never violated, its not just the live team.
Anet is kitten lucky that they’ve had a rather large window with very little competition unlike say swtor.

So non members do not get the opportunity to get the ascended earrings?
you only need 5 events out of all of them. So you can still do it all in WvW
Out of that list 3 can be done in WvW, 4 if you still have skill points to get, not 5.

Even if one still had skill points to do in WvW a player can’t do 5 in WvW.
The OP is referring to the fact that you can’t do it all in WvW any more not even with the so called choice.
The ascended items that are apparently available via guild missions, are they drops or are they bought via these new commendations or whatever they are?
I think I know what happened. I’m thinking ‘some’ people couldn’t handle losing and lacked the intestinal fortitude to even bother fighting back, and instead went the easier, softer way and hopped to BG.
This is rather ironic considering why JQ are now no. 1.

The guilds that are transferring to BG aren’t even close to be fully transferred yet. MERC alone doesn’t even have 1/5 of their members yet.

And under this little scheme those of us still on SOS get shafted for a week. Well kitten that kitten. If BG lose in T1 for a week while getting used to the new guild, well boohoo.
This patch is as big a fail as the infamous Nov patch.
The influence requirements are ridiculous. Stop trying to turn what should be a fun time for the guild into a grind and poorly placed time sync.
I thought it’d be okay if I can participate with other people’s Guild Missions, it might have been fun with a little bit of reward (I wasn’t expecting the full reward as if I was in a Guild, but I expected a little something for my efforts). BUT NOW THEY SAY THERE ARE NO REWARDS FOR BYSTANDERS!? Even after saying they were!?!??!?!!!!

If you participated in the event to take the bounty down, you will immediately receive your personal reward for guild bounties for that week and your guild will receive completion credit for that target.
This makes it sound like any player participating will get 50 silver, the rare drops and a personal guild commendation, but only the guild that kicked the event off will receive a guild merit, correct?
No, you have have to be in the guild with a mission active. Sorry for the confusion, I wrote the whole thing from the perspective of someone who is trying to run a mission.
You’ll be rewarded — silver, XP and karma.
Don’t spend it all in one place.

Presumably the guild missions reward them via RNG, you guys still haven’t learned that there should be a reasonable alternative to RNG, this isn’t it.

Yes and then you see the cost in a game when the only grind was meant to be for cosmetics.
On the other side at launch it was promised that people that would put a lot of time in items would only get better LOOKING items and not items that have better STATS.
This, more going back on promises from anet. Another genius patch from anet that does nothing but anger large sections of the community.
Jade Quarry achieved something today. To the Commanders leading us and the soldiers sacrificing their lives to make it happen… it doesn’t make it any less of an achievement. We’re not bragging, or showing off… we’re patting one another on the back… because this was a team effort.. and there is no I in team.
Course you’re bragging, you’ve achieved nothing. At least half of SOS has gone, the other half have given up for the week given that we want to be in T2 as soon as possible. And SOR appear to be taking a rest in preparation for BGs arrival.
The only achievement you’re gaining is as arrogant braggarts with a total lack of class and humility.

There’s no point to even posting the score any more.
There are some updates missing from the notes. We are tracking down those, but some changes to the D/D and S/D ele build are in this patch despite not being in the notes.

As I said in the other thread, we play the game to have fun. WvW was not and has not been fun for a while now. Enjoy your complete lack of NA coverage and PvDooring Tier 3 keeps from breakout events.

The reason I chose to go with MERC: T1 wasn’t fun against a server with huge amounts of coverage where SoS had none.
I don’t get this unless you’re talking about wanting to win overall. JQ and SOR will still have a weakness in oceanic timezones when BG get top T1, you’re going to run roughshod over the JQ and SOR players on at that timezone just like you’ve been doing on SOS. Its not like SOS in the oceanic timezone is struggling.

People are too obsessed with winning. I’m 99% sure that Maguuma is about the same strength it always was, and yet a formerly average server is now T3.
You’re 100% wrong. Maguuma got a ton of transfers when they were last in T5 which took them up to T3.
The reddit interview with Mike Ferguson makes it pretty clear that the OP is 100% correct.
