yaks bend is the official “older people” server. that big guild for old people is on yb (TOG).

TOG started on YB but are spread across all servers now. YB does however also have OTG, Old Timers Guild.

Main thing I guess was server links but even that was a way to avoid making major changes (the battlegroup proposal), beyond that yes they’ve made changes but its hardly been a priority.

3 out of 4 matches are ridiculous runaways this week.

The basic problem is population imbalance and a RNG system for match selection is complete kitten kitten.

I like the idea of having match variety. BUT having match variety will lead to gross mismatches if there is the current level of server imbalance.

We’re now at the opposite extreme of what used to happen, its ridiculous that Dragonbrand is in T1.

You need TC to come back from PvE.

TC players didnt go PVE. Multiple TC guilds left server already looking for more activity, some other players left game due to wvw being completely ignored by anet.

Not talking about compared to months ago, I’m talking about compared to just before the latest LS release hit. TC definitely had a lot more players in WvW before it was released.

When GW2 launched, I assume Anet wanted the game to be standing on three foundations: PvE, PvP and WvW.
Over time, it was clear that each “pillar” the game was resting on would not be the same size and of the same importance. WvW these days is not carrying the game forward. It is not in the state of attracting new players or holding veteran players. I think it is fair to ask whether WvW will still be considered a foundation of GW2, when Anet is delivering the expansion pack 2 (in perhaps half a year or early 2018?).

Its not a key pillar any more primarily due to anet actions and inaction.

I believe the initial design of the game had WvW as a key pillar. I think that changed when Colin Johanson was given overall control over the game around launch because he personally didn’t like WvW.

If anyone hasn’t watched Wooden Potatoes’ videos, he already had all the insights and other mats needed when the patch landed to turn them in for a legendary set, so for many diehard raiders, it’s a reward for what they’ve already done rather than giving them something more to work towards. In that vein, I’d like to just be able to merge ascended sets into one set that lets you swap stats between the stat sets you’ve already created, which saves inventory space and adds some convenience but not a new skin. Seems fair.

And what do you do after? What is there to work for with the raiders. There no new legendary set and we images that they are going to add in more raids what of that? Or was raids just a HoT thing and that it?

You cant keep raider playing though gear and legendary armor is the end all be all gear what next for them other then just simply moving to an mmorpg that is build for raiding and over all dose it better then gw2 ever could?

Yes that admission surprised me, what do they expect raiders to do once they have all 3 legendary armors, I would think all the raiders have 1 set and are already well on their way to a second. Its shortsighted.

To be worse based on Leakozaurus (guy who posted Ele and Guard skillbars) Holosmith isn’t even close to be completed. Previous itaration of Engineer’s elite spec was scrapped few weeks ago (doesn’t this sound like Scrapper, and his heat and fuel mechanics?). Holosmith is still owrk in progress.

I think most ppl are putting there hopes and dreams on CU more then any thing.

Camelot Unchained – been killing WvW so hard since people first said it was going to kill WvW 4 years ago its approaching negative death.

Tbh I am not so sure that CU will be anything “more” than a different game than GW2. Seems to be moving at a snail’s pace. Slower than other AAA MMO’s I’ve followed.

For one its not an AAA mmo, for another they are building an engine from scratch.

As it stands I won’t be buying the xpac. What would get me to buy it would be:
- for WvW to be redone into an alliance based system not a server based system.
- legendary armor to be made available via means other than raids
- grind for masteries and collections to be reduced.

I still really enjoy the game mode. I wish there were some new changes but there will always be a meta and some people won’t like it no matter what. Some people won’t like a new map no matter what. Some won’t be happy no matter how often Anet puts out messages. People are going to be unhappy no matter what. The game is getting older and older so the flare of many wvwer’s will die out, but it’s not totally due to lack of changes.

People are leaving WvW and the game… Anyone with a contact list over two years old knows this.

In a boring condition loving match right now, thought I’d give pvp a try. That game mode is just as worse. I can see why people find both wvw and pvp boring/frustrating. Both game modes just are not fun.

I think its more than wvw they don’t give a crap about Nikki, the entire game is getting really awful.

PvP has lost all the internal champions who gave a crap about it. WvW seemingly never had such champions after release maybe with the exception of Tyler Bearce. Both modes now have devs on them who don’t care one whit.

Interesting to note that according to the reddit AMA Tyler Bearce is now on the Living World team. The best WvW dev gets moved off WvW to the xpac and now to living world leaving WvW development to languish.

You can legitimately make that argument the moment polls were allowed. Effectively, players were allowed to decide their fate. So we get scoring (for the good/bad that does). So unsurprising…players voted for something to help them artificially win at the game more. Even though population coverage solutions would have helped in that regard, and then some.

Before that however, yes, they were still designers. Yes, it takes more than posting a written document on a forum to be a game developer.

I’m not even talking about the poll driven methodology, I’m specifically referencing the point about game design for a viable, healthy long term game design. Many design elements in WvW are antithetical to that goal.

There is no wvw dev team. Therefore, posting ideas for a ‘better wvw’ is a pointless exercise- although some of the ideas at least have amusement value if nothing else.

I think the majority of us realise that. I suspect major WvW changes might come with the xpac but IMO tying WvW changes to xpacs is an extreme mistake. ESO does not do that except with balance changes. There needs to be a WvW team constantly developing it.

Returning to game, where is the OCX action (just t1?).

Im on maguuma and its pretty quiet in ocx (excluding weekends I guess).

Sox is on mag but only runs 3-4 nights a week now

1. Move to an alliance based system (server system does not work due to its inflexibility)
2. Reduce the effectiveness of siege against players.
3. Better gameplay balance
4. QOL items to encourage players to play, like leaderboards.
5. No aoe caps
6. Equal rewards with pvp and pve
7. Rewards track that simply rewards currencies, no kittening inventory fillers.
8. Squads restricted to 25 players or a method such that it will be optimal to have up tom 25 players and extremely sub optimal to have any players above that.
9. Greater rewards for taking defended structures and no, or very, little rewards for taking undefended structures. The number of defenders the greater the rewards.

BG is only T2 due to the RNG nature of the match up rolls, in terms of size its still a T1 server so no it shouldn’t open up. It was open not that long ago so you haven;t been waiting all that long.

And now another thread about issues with linkages is blocked as a matchup thread. So I take it we aren’t allowed to discuss specific linkages at all which is just going to far if you want to get honest feedback.

This is just more evidence that links need to be changed quicker than 2 months.

So I see comments about why a particular matchup has occurred are being closed as being match up threads. Are we not then allowed to discuss why some match ups have occurred or the matchmaking process itself?

Its factionally based rather than server based, this allows multiple campaigns with different rulesets, for instance 1 campaign is only for players not at max level, some campaigns run for 3 months, some run only for a week.

A campaign is run on 1 huge map much bigger than any of the WvW maps. The map is lattice based so each objective you take adjacent to your other objectives mean you can waypoint to it. If you take an objective behind enemy lines you can’t waypoint to it directly but you can set up mobile waypoints (which are bought like siege) for dead players to respawn at.

You have a home campaign but you can guest to other campaigns.

There is siege but there is no supply so you don’t build it, you just set it up and use it and it can get damaged and destroyed. Siege is much harder to use against individual players than WvW siege, its made to be used against objectives and other siege, as it should be. Siege is bought using gold or the pvp currency alliance points.

Combat is less fluid than GW2 and the combos are less easy to use. Combat is generally more chaotic than organised GW2. TTK is generally much shorter you have to really watch yourself and spec the right way.

Yes there is, ESO. Its RvR system is superior to WvW in fact. However its combat is not as fluid as GW2 though. On the plus side it has far more dev attention paid to it than WvW and has senior devs working directly on it.

What entitlement? To actual communication? Thats hardly unreasonable when the general perception is that anet is fiddling while WvW burns.

Gaile is female. Most of her posts are to the GW2 community in general. She likes frogs. Unfortunately, WvW does not have someone that talks to our community like Gaile does. She mains a ranger, one of a few classes that has been mostly unwanted in WvW.

EOTM is bascially an overflow (or used to be) for wvw.. If you were in que, you would goto EOTM to wait til your que popped for wvw.. if you didnt like pve.

EOTM should have been a literal overflow map for WvW but the big problem is it wasn’t and it became the main map for a lot of people, taking them away from WvW itself. Its one of the great mistakes in WvW development that anet has made.

Eotm has been there for quite awhile and it was a basically a beta test for new things to implement in WvW but now it just sits there and count toward servers populations. If you go in to Eotm all you see is K-trains and that doesn’t sound like beta test to me. SO why not get rid of it?

If there are players out there genuinely doing this and spending crazy money on keys, then Anet will feel validated through their sales metrics and have no incentive to change tactic, regardless of feedback.

I would hope that the company (which built a rep as a players company) actually has better ethics than that to not screw over players that much.

Agreed. GW2 needs to fix its gameplay issues more than anything. It lacks the staffing to do this kind of major overhaul in any reasonable amount of time, either.

Staffing issue or a project management issue? Anet have been shown in the past to be horribly inefficient in their processes.

I’d far far far rather a remastered version of GW1, its the superior game.
