@Straegen Yeah the combat log is extremely buggy. According to the combat log Ive been killed by <1k damage many times instantly where there is no possible fall damage to factor in.
pet attacks (except mesmer) doesnt show in logs. So you coulda been steamrolled by a MM necro or BM ranger and the pet damage would not show.
I recall on one occasion getting two hit by one of a rangers birds. It seemed so strange as I was running alot of toughness and 13k hp. The ranger was waiting at my spawn and added me to party and his immediate words were “WTF”. I was like “yeah I just got two hit by your pet lol”. He went on to say he guessed it was a bug of some kind etc etc.
But the main class I have issues with is thieves who only deal like one auto attack. Like literally in the combat log it will show one wildstrike of 900 damage and Im dead. No thieves guild. No nothing. Just randomly dead before a fight even begun. I suspect that its a latency thing tbh as I have a 200+ ping to NA servers and when it is really laggy it can get above 400.
I have around 1500 ranks about now. Ive had about 6 rings. All trash though because farmed fractals for my rings. Even with 8 classes, rings aren’t hard to come by as long as you enjoy fractals. The best thing I got from a rank up chest was ascended Angchu armor (Toughness, Power, critical damage) which was very useful. Best drops I have had is chaos gun (Quip precursor, dropped from a player) and an ascended armor chest (dropped from a tower keep lord) that wasn’t the stats I want for anything. I had an ascended weapon drop as well but my account was hacked the next day and they had to reset my account which lost me around 50 WvW levels, the ascended weapon and 2x 10 Agony resist. I also had purchased collectables expansion to 1000 slots and after the reset I couldn’t repurchase them so now Im locked permanantly at 250 per stack and TP won’t let me buy more because I have already theoretically purchased the maximum.
On a side note, I thought you were one of those hardcore players, Fuzzionx, with thousands of WvW levels? Or is that just one of your classes?
I play about 8 to 14 hours per week. Got RL stuff to do.Only 1 toon
So its confirmed, ascended Armour drops as well?
Yeah you can get armor from rank up chests, I assume drops as well. Yeah I have 5k hours played which is an average of over 10 hours a day as I didn’t start till 2 months after the game released. Have a full time job. My doctor says I am an insomniac, he aint kidding :p

The AoE, particularly the fields produced, are what give this game a unique combat mechanic over most other games. I run into various guilds, I won’t name names, but when it comes down to it the fighting is not pretty and its very disorganized when you get down to this skirmish style of play. AoE gives the combat structure and rewards organization. The downside is it also helps with blobbing.
Worse case scenario, maybe melee tank isnt your thing, some love magic, and that might be your hidden talent.
My gear was the same when I first started in WvW, except that I went with longbow / rifle at first. I managed to hang in the back and die closer to the end than the beginning of most fights. I picked off a few kills here and there and sometimes managed to land pin down and stop a target from getting away while others finished them off.
But, other than when burning down champs with the rifle, it felt like a super cheese build, and I felt like I was adding almost nothing to most fights. I also had zero chance of beating anyone that actually engaged me (which, to be fair, is not really any different now).
If your running a rifle in a zerg/guild, its pretty much a cheese build. The only reason for running a rifle is to assassinate enemy eles, but that isn’t really widespread because warriors can bring so much more to the table with other weapon sets.

Small scale fights yeah it will help. Large groups no. In all honesty if your not good and your looking to get good, the best option is to play alot of WvW. Try to find some pub commanders who are willing to share and learn. As you get better, try to find a WvW centric guild. I personally feel that the best way to truly get good at WvW is to start with small scale fights, preferably solo roaming. It will teach you alot of the core fundamentals that alot of zerglings and guildies just never figured out.
I’m personally loving the new addition of TC to T1. They seem to always come out and fight rain, hail or shine. Unlike SOR in so many ways.
Rapid Fire isn’t an instant shot skill… it’s a bloody four-and-a-half seconds long channel.
It’s possible to get 48k with Signet of the Wild buff and chewing signets to fuel Beastmaster’s Might, but that requires several contingencies:
1. The Ranger is incredibly glass, running Zerker w/ Scholars.
2. The Ranger must chew all of his/her utilities and elite in order to facilitate a single burst.
3. The build involves speccing 30 points into some of the worst traitlines regarding personal sustain (Marksmanship and Skirmishing).
4. The attack is incredibly choreographed. If you can’t see the “Attack of Opportunity” or 9 Insta-Stacks of Might, no one can help you learn. And let’s not forget… a simple dodge or constant left-to-right side strafing would allow you to avoid most, if not ALL, of the arrow projectiles.
As for thieves and their stealth mechanic, it’s no venue of modern discovery to understand how broken stealth is in WvW compared to sPvP. I think the advent of the Dire stat and Perplexity Rune shows the developers sheer callousness toward class balance in WvW.
Oh so its a Rangers rapid fire. I guess we should definitely nerf rangers then.
If it’s not released before season 2, it’s not getting released till may.
If it’s not released by season 2. I’m going to go play ESO and drop GW2 for good.
Outnumbered improves rewards, not fighting ability…
It’s probably meant to attract people to the zone to take advantage of it. But when you get enough people, it vanishes. So there’s no reason to stick in the zone anymore.
I sort of wonder what the point is.A small or moderate % bonus to max health or all stats or something would probably be the way to go…
I wouldn’t like it. It would just give me an advantage over other roamers that I came across. And I don’t want to win fights simply because of a statistical advantage provided to me because I happen to be on a map where I have outnumbered.
Highest damage output I have dealt myself is thief using whirling axes (steal from warrior) which did 32k damage. From any pistol skill from rapid fire Ive never seen more than around 15k. And I run full glass thief with PP. Im sure your making up the 48k. Its not even possible for a character to have this much HP even running full sentinels and applied fortitude meaning its pretty much impossible.
Honeymooon from SoR was 4250+ about a month ago. He doesn’t really talk but he’s the highest I know of.
Rank 4250…that’s insane! Is GW2 his full-time hobby/day job?
has to be, cuz it’s not possible otherwise. 4244 ranks (excluding 1-5) is over 21 million wxp. thats 2100 flipping SM, 350k player kills that all gave 60 wxp each which isn’t likely, and so on.. the guy has to play at least 10-12 hours a day. i saw a gold footman the other day in EotM.
How sure are we thats legit. I recall an Anet dev recently saying nobody had currently passed 3000 ranks, about a month back.
There are no decent guilds in NA.
It will probably be around the same time they fix the server lag and introduce precursor scavenger hunt. Don’t waste your time on this game because Anet is not.
Will I get compensation for all the PvE players that wasted my time and lost my server points whilst going after their meta achievements?
Just so you know, I run PP DD thief and I can roll permanant stealth. Its not limited to only DP thief. If you change blinding powder to a dark field instead of a smoke field Im not sure if I can still run permanant stealth. If you feel like PP needs a buff, than the change regarding blinding powder would actually be a nerf to my PP build.
I seen it. The quote I placed above is from the same thread.
This is actually a good thing. If you take a look at what happened in EU, many of the strongest guilds in the top servers left to other servers due to PvE players taking up queues and not allowing players who actually play WvW to get in. Giving PvE players a place to play means actual WvW guilds can get in and do what they do best. But at the same time this doesn’t apply to everyone. And in all honesty they should just remove rewards from WvW altogether so real WvW guilds and players can play the game the way it was intended instead of this Karma Train BS we are getting now.
from www.gw2wvw.net where this has been discussed, anet was affected as well.
You might have missed this bit:
“working with the network operations center at our hosting company we have determined the DDoS attack that took down our TeamSpeak and data center was aimed directly at our server not somewhere above it. The amount of traffic certainly spilled out above us though as layer 3 struggled to keep up.
Null routing our IP address mitigated the attack which is still on going… so we know for sure we were directly targeted and not bystanders hit in some other attack."
Anet have their own seperate servers, so whatever is effecting Anet is a seperate entity.
i love how sor and jq came down too but because bg is down, you say it must be one of us doing it. kitten and gtfo lol
Maybe you should read what I said again.
Why are you even continuing with “CDI” threats that pertain to WvW? I’m honestly curious because the other two accomplished NOTHING. We will say we like and dislike blah blah blah and the team will answer with more Blah blah blah and then the thread will be promptly ignored as usual.
Still waiting on transfer costs based on server ranks not over all populations.
Still waiting on anyone of the suggestion made for commander tag to be used.Sorry Chris but maybe you guys should follow through with at least something from the previous discussions before starting another.
I’m sure you will fool more people into thinking our opinion concerns your team with this thread though.
My thoughts exactly.
DDOS is possible. What Katripper has mentioned above is the most common scenario though. But if you are on Blackgate at present, their teamspeak is specifically being DDOS’d and it is taking down other servers in their cloud. Their community forums are also getting DDOS’d which is using a seperate server. Chances are its a bad apple from SOR or JQ or who knows, maybe even BG. All we know for sure at present is that this is one of the most extreme cases of DDOS I have ever seen and I have seen alot of DDOS going down.
Real WvW guilds don’t care about rewards. What is your PvE guild bothering with WvW for? Go farm Frostgorge if your here for carrots.
Account bound WXP.
Some things change. An example. LB/Hammer is fast becoming a first pick among guilds. Also many builds depend on composition. To give and example here, in NA most guilds are built for survivability and use war banner for rallying. But in EU many guilds build alot more DPS heavy and focus down states for rallying and use signet instead of banner. There is no one meta that all should follow. Its dependent on an entire groups composition.
Yes. But I think some changes should be made first. And not before account bound WXP.
The truth is that WvW is the most profitable way to farm now. Thats an issue for core WvW players. We don’t want it to be the case because it attracts the wrong kind of players with the wrong kind of attitudes.
Yeah unfortunately things are starting to make sense. I got that vibe something was up when Anet was asked what the point in EoTM was and they said they didn’t really know. Then gave us some small reasons for such a large development and told us to see how it goes…
I really dislike the EOTM map. I find it difficult to stay in it longer than 20 minutes.
I like pvp maps and I like PvE maps… I find the 2 meshed together is an unplayable abomination.
What purpose does the EOTM map serve?
Queues are not an issue anywhere.
We had an EBG map and 3 borderlands maps that aren’t used much.
EOTM pulls people from an already mostly deserted WvW to make it even more deserted. EOTM in itself offers no incentive to do anything for your server. Why are there towers and keeps in EOTM? Why the need to break down gates? Why even have gates? Who cares if the enemy takes everything you own in EOTM, there is zero reward for winning and zero punishment for losing. Taking points gives Wxp, for people who don’t even go into the actual WvW maps. The whole map just seems dumb and unnecessary and did nothing but destroy WvW on a lot of servers.
This is pretty much how I feel. I have nobody to fight with. EoTM has broken the only game mode I am here to play. I still understand how some people are excited about EoTM and thats cool. But if the one game mode I am here to play is now empty, what is the point in playing this game anymore? If I have to wait months hoping that Anet will change something I don’t know what I am supposed to do :/ Thrown so many thousands of dollars into gems to buy ascended since its introduction so I could stay on top of the gold game and have all the gear and theory craft new builds and now this. They remove the bulk of the population from the one game mode I enjoy and Im left with nothing to do.
A new trainee burnt the initial batch and that is out the back now. The second batch he made he had the recipe wrong so now we have all this raisin bread we don’t want.
Tell me I am being dramatic. I really hope I am. But from what I am seeing, EoTM is soon to replace WvW leaving only small portions of coverage in WvW that will find themselves with nothing to do but PvDoor/karma train. I really want to be wrong about this. But it seems like the one reason, the one game mode I play GW2 for, just got destroyed.
Collaborative development is just a way to give people a place to complain logically in a nice manner and waste our time. The issues are pretty clear and the possible solutions are abundant and many of them simple.
There is a section for this class balance discussion now.
Me and GW2 (WvW) is like a love-hate relationship.. I’ve already quit a couple of times because the whole “mass-epic-scale” is not my cup of tea. I like organised fights (not sPvP where crowd control matters more than actually wiping a group of players).
I know WvW was intended to be blobby fights.. but
1) Up until today, the engine can still not handle this
2) I personally don’t see how spamming 1 and running is a blob is skillful, all you need is the appropriate gear, build.. and you basically spam most of your skills. It’s nothing like GW1 PvP was like, the game I still praise upon this very day.. I guess it wasn’t casual enough. Casual means a bigger playerbase, naturally means more cash.. and I’m kinda sad GW2 choose that path, pvp-wise. PvE wise this game is the best game I’ve played by far. PvP it is a tragedy.
3) WvW still plays like PvE, it is SO forgiving if you run with higher numbers than your opponents, mass rally, quick ressing (cmon now, two guys can pick you up in like a second)WvW today, no one cares about points anymore, good guilds only care about wiping blobs and having “good” fights, that is a sad evolution but it happens because your work is being wiped regardless. If servers were more balanced, it would be about the points again, you’d fight with even equipment..
All of this is my own opinion, btw.
I agree, but with one exception. You see, there alot of guilds that claim they only care about fights. The truth is they are mediocre guilds who play in their own optimal conditions. The driving force behind not fighting in your optimal conditions is PPT. You get strategically placed in a situation where you have to fight if you want that PPT. The truly good guilds in this game are both in it for the fights and the PPT.
whole lot of whining in this thread.. “We got bored of winning” “JQ has too much oceanic” “we’re in it for the fights” “we proved ourselves in season 1”.. really? These all sound like excuses from a server losing their place as number 1. The only real difference between this week and last week is that SoR is tanking it. It’s easy to say your server is tanking the match once you are losing. I don’t buy it as an excuse though. I’ve played wvw every night for months now and I haven’t seen any considerable changes in the turnout from week to week. BG may have won season 1 by recruiting a bunch of mercenary guilds that left once the season was over, but this weeks match shows who the real #1 server is. This week is basically a 1v1 between JQ and BG. No help nor possible complaints of a 2v1 from either side. Come up with whatever excuse you want, the match up numbers don’t lie.
Its true. JQ has more numbers and better coverage than BG.
EoTM is not WvW. It is a more casual game mode that will replace WvW if no changes are made.
lol. how is it not wvw? just because you don’t like it?
Pretty much. I think we both know thats how logic works on these forums.
What I have found thus far is you go in with a guild. Farms pugs and bad players. Full cap the map and get bored. There is no defending and no point in doing so because any organized force will wipe the map just like my guild and other guilds I raid with do. Something we rarely achieve in WvW. Because the people in WvW are organized and fight for PPT. EoTM is just a casuals/PvE/PvX zone. Good farming though.
Well EotM is going to be the best spot for WvW eventually since the population is balanced, guilds are the main focus not servers, you can play for the entire match’s length and the best part of all: it has the chance to finally bring competitive matchups. Honestly it just needs guilds to hop in there so there are more organized groups
From what Ive seen, Ive only raided with 5 different guilds on my server in EoTM so far. I haven’t said anything, but in each raid multiple people have started complaining that EoTM is boring PvDoor. I don’t really see it being more competitive. I see it becoming more casual.
EoTM is not WvW. It is a more casual game mode that will replace WvW if no changes are made.
Sword? I hope not. Im running into alot of necros these days who can drop just about every condition in the game on you in maybe 5 seconds. I literally just have to run away before I melt. How are people dealing with so many conditions?
Yeah fighting for your server is pretty much out now. EoTM marked the death of competitive WvW as we know it. Now it is about hopping from one map or to one instance/overflow and farming. Can’t get enough farming on the map or you actually have opposition? Time to jump maps or instances/overflow again to rub some more doors.
SOR imploded. Has been a long time coming. Having played there for a while I’m not surprised they imploded, but I am surprised it took so long. The community never had a common goal or voice. There was never unity so to speak. If you go to JQ or BG things are very different. There is always a common attitude. EoTM came at a good time for them. Its given them an escape from WvW where they can play a similar PvE/PvP hybrid format. And the players in EoTM are pretty terrible so its nice farming and for the SOR players who must be low on it, a good morale booster.
Thanks for the answers
Do these work “correctly”. Healing rain provides regen but also clears a condition every 3 seconds. Combined with cleansing water, I presume it would clear two conditions immediately, then 1 every 3 seconds?
EoTM is just a place for your guild to go when you got wiped one or two times and need a morale boost so you go stack an instance and farm terrible players.
Screenshot or it didn’t happen.
The top 3 tiers are alot more balanced in EU. I think the key reason this can’t be achieved in NA is because Oceanics and Sea guilds opt to play on NA servers because of better pings. That said, in all honesty if EU is a representation of “balanced top 3 tiers” than I don’t want balance. There are a few things I just did not like about gameplay in EU that I think were a biproduct of the balance. The only big plus EU has is that there are many more decent and better guilds that play there.
So essentially, the only way I see to “balance NA” is to provide Oceanic/Sea servers and get those players playing in that region however they can rather then have them opting to play in NA regardless.
Interesting, can you elaborate a bit on what byproduct things about gameplay in EU due to balance that you don’t like?
In order to fill the huge coverage gap during in Oceanic and early Sea (and I guess late NA as well) float commanders were running a single pug group (float team) that would cover 4 maps. PPT lead was gained by who could PvDoor the quickest. Fights over objectives were alot less rare than Oceanic NA. Paper keeps were alot more common, because there wasn’t enough players to scout and run a reasonable size force. It was just more efficient to cap it, grab supply and move along. WvW was not a PvP area in primetime Oceanic, but rather a forced karma train.
I don’t know if that makes it clear? For some that might sound like a good thing. But for me its quite bad. I like fights and attacking and defending upgraded defences. Not face rubbing doors. But nothing is upgraded all that often because coverage gaps pretty much means its going to get flipped overnight…several times :p

I don’t think stability is really an argument here. Its a counter to one of the many things that this skill can do, which also has its own counter (boon stripping) and has reasonable limitations unlike ES.
