Question from a non-WvWer, are team colors supposed to be rotated during season 1 or some servers have set colors? (like Maguuma being red all 4 rounds)

They did the colors according to who was ranked highest coming into leagues. The schedule here shows the color plan:

JQ was ranked 1st going into leagues so they are green every week. SOR was ranked second and is green in every week they are not matched with JQ. BG was ranked 3rd and is green in the one week they are not matched with SOR or JQ etc etc

Green = highest rank, Blue = Second highest rank and Red = lowest rank in a matchup.

I have to say I was a little intrigued about the 5 portal events achievement in my daily. My understanding is these events last approximately 45minutes and you have to get to each one early (~10minutes) to ensure you get in. So to do the one achievement for that day, you had to commit ~5hours to it. I immediately dismissed it as insanity. But the reality is thakittens a negative experience for players to get time gated to such an extreme and to fail to “achieve and achievement”. Anet really needs to learn from this. They need to promote positive experiences in their game, not negative ones.

I believe they should remove AC from the game until they either deal with the zoom hackers or they redesign the AC so the zoom hackers aren’t instant I wins in fights.

I have a thief and I really would like to adapt my build to a zerg build. My issue is I already require over a years worth of laurels for my 7 other chars, so its a long time before I can try building a zerg thief. I see a fair few things that they can contribute to a zerg. But the fact of the matter is there is nothing a thief can do in a zerg that I don’t think another class can do better. So I chose to have this as a low priority when I can just switch characters depending on what is needed at the time.

IMHO. As players in NA the only thing we can do is go more towards the EU meta. Break your groups up into 15-20 and spread out across the map. I know it doesn’t help defend against a giant zerg attacking a particular keep/tower, but it does have the effect of breaking up the other teams zerg a little to defend multiple attacks. Rally to defend spread out to attack. All we can do if ANET doesn’t change things.

I’ve seen this happen in T1 NA as well. It works for a bit. But it always spirals back to the mega zerg. Why? Because that’s what wins. Players want to win. The game design needs to change to give players the incentive to spread out. Unless Anet does something about this fact there is nothing that can be done.

From what I have seen and the attention WvW gets, it feels like Anet never thought of the possibility that WvW would get the dedicated loyal PvP base of players that it did. But now it feels like they don’t even care. Given PvE, sPvP and WvW it feels like WvW will draw the short straw every single time. Example? They integrate WvW achievements into the standard daily whist sPvP gets a separate daily. Sure WvW is intended to be closely related to PvE. But come on. We need some independence from PvE. There is a large dedicated base of WvW players here. We are not PvE players. PvE player can go jump into WvW sure, but they can do the same with sPvP. WvW does not equal PvE!

All I see is a lot of people pointing out how flawed the APs are. And they are. They should have been properly assessed BEFORE they integrated the new reward system, because now they are committed to there flawed APs.

Ive only seen one person thus far complain about the rewards associated with it. Im sure seeing a lot of people jump to conclusions that people are complaining about rewards. As far as I can see, 99.99% of people with a gripe about what Anet has done couldn’t care less about the rewards and are only dissatisfied with Anet not rethinking the APs.

I think the major reason for farming nerfs to specific areas is because of botting that eventuates there that they can’t detect so they just nerf the spot instead.

Totally in favour of this. I know the original reason they removed it was because bots were farming karma/XP by following yaks around. But this really is an important task we should have people doing 24/7. Getting yak deliveries more safely and 33% quicker is a huge benefit to a server, but not rewarding the effort a player makes in doing this is totally wrong.

I was watching videos online, and I think this video of a D/P thief shows how much they can contribute to a zerg:

Something a lot of players forget is that quick, targeted kills are really useful in a group vs. group environment. Compare it to what happens when you don’t use targeted kills, then suddenly that enemy necromancer has rooted everyone and inflicted torment, that elementalist throws down so many water fields that you can’t do any good damage, or that mesmer throw down time warp and their team proceeds to just mess you up.

Dagger storm is not “a good tanking ability” unless the zerg is completely horrid. Sure, that’s often the case. But most of us play with the frame of mind that the opponents we are going to face are of decent quality and play as such, otherwise you will get schooled. People should always pay their opponents respect, not just in this game, for this very reason. Underestimating an opponent is in this game, just like everywhere else, a common way to lose a fight.

I find it funny how Thieves blindly defend there class thinking that Perma Stealth, obscene damage, BS combat movement and ridiculous boons is perfectly fine thing to have and how its a “L2P” issue

No seriously, He was going into stealth and coming out with like 6 different boons and doing it EVERY 3 seconds meaning they were either refreshed or replaced. I watched him fighting some people for a good 2-3mins he didnt have ANY time out of stealth where he didnt have like 6 boons on himself.

Mostly Fury, Protection, saw a few Swiftness in there as well as Aegis and some others

Are you a Mesmer? If not, did he have a sword?

World vs World Incentive in Solo.

If your new to the game, your better off joining a zerg and learning the basics before you start roaming solo.

Titles for killing players do come in the form of Ultimate Dominator. Getting this as a solo player, however, will be extremely time consuming. Only a few players have it so far. The quickest way to do it would be in an organized guild fighting large zergs. Running solo you kill less often.

There is no leaderboard for kills.

You can earn ranks from doing a lot of things in WvW. Basically just look at World XP on the wiki to explain how and you gain ranks and a reward chest for each rank. As a solo player I find I level quicker as I don’t mess around and go directly from one objective to the next. In a zerg there will be points, like ZvZ, where you will be earning more WXP but in the long run solo is quicker (although small group would be fastest if the group is disciplined).

@supernovae I believe the larger map thing would work, but IIRC, I read somewhere someone saying the maps as they are now are as big as they will ever get. I believe it was a dev. Could be wrong tho.

Not really. My main is a thief. But if I could only play one, it wouldn’t be thief. Id probably go for a Warrior. With a Warrior Ive always preferred Norn. I don’t care about order.

One thing that has become apparent to me is when you add in jumping abilities to a jumping puzzle type scenario, this game really is ruined for players like me with bad latency. Prior to this event I was ok with what I have to deal with on a daily basis. Now I am on the “give us Oceanic servers bandwagon” in a big way.

The same goes with sanctum sprint. That event looks amazing. But I wouldn’t know due to falling off ledges from latency all the time. It really peeves me off tbh.

I’ve been wondering about the events, in particular the event of Sanctum Sprint.
As I was participating in these events for the achievement, someone said to us “Plz winner leave no winner x2 leave plz stop winner x2 stupid noob fsxk i need acheivnmtnz” or something along those lines.

Now, seeing someone whine like this just made me want to beat him more, troll him more. But I was wondering what the general consensus was: Should we just people who want to win… win?

And is there some sort of expectation that “winner” should “leave plz no winner x2” nowadays?

As someone who personally abdicates their wins, I say that no, there should be no expectation that you do the same.

If someone chooses to abdicate their victory, that is fine. But you should not have that forced on you. You should not give up your victory unless it is your choice. This is still a race after all.

Nice to see you guys have had some luck and nice to know there are some good people out there. I have a lot of latency issues in the event so winning is near impossible for me unless someone hands it to me. But all Im seeing is the same people winning every single time.

Its a latency issue. Anyone saying otherwise has no clue what they are talking about. They need to do what League of Legends did and get a third region of servers for Asia/Oceanic. Or they need to stop making stuff that only lucky players can play without lagging off cliffs everytime they need to jump.

Be aware, killing fast also means dieing fast. If your new to WvW you might want to start with something more safe. Most players starting out in WvW run with a zerg and build more survivability to start off with whilst getting a feel for the gameplay and then theory craft and customize builds to how they play.

But if that doesn’t dissuade you, heres some facts from my builds:

Warrior F1 Rifle can burst for ~24k

Thief (dual pistol) unload ability can burst a 2.8k armor spec for 8k (3 times in a row before requiring more initiative)

Also Thief steal on a warrior ability (whirling axe) Ive seen this do 32k damage although its melee range and risky to fully execute in some situations.

There are a lot of options. Most rifle warriors you run into are bad, but IMO warrior rifle isn’t necessarily so bad. Id opt for either warrior or thief if your looking for ranged burst and from what I can tell. But it really depends on playstyle. I mostly solo roam and play small scale fights and stay away from large fights. In large fights they won’t be your best options.

I’m not sure that the majority is complaining. I’ve seen no one in game say anything but positive stuff about the rewards. Granted, my server is TC so the community there is pretty mellow.

Yeah I haven’t seen anyone complain about it either, not the rewards anyways. My only gripe about it is they did not add weighting to AP according to difficulty and/or time spent achieving something, particularly with reference to a couple of the WvW ones that will take close to a decade to complete and worth the same AP as things you can do in an hour or two. Now that they have added this system it feels as though they have shown the intent of not rethinking them ever, going by what they have said in the past.

You can argue for or against it. Anet have been very strategic with achievement points, dailys, monthlys etc. They are hanging carrots out there to shape their customers. Nobody can dispute this. It is a clear fact. For one, I think it’s a smart way to save on development costs and to keep a large portion of players active in the game. But I feel somewhat exploited by them. But then that is something I’ve come to expect from game developers these days.

JP chests are locked for 24 hours for account. So you could farm 3 border JP’s for 6 bp’s and 3? bp’s from EB + the random amount of badges you can turn into 2-3 bp’s.

So thats like 12 bp’s per 24h with pretty large effort and chances to die multiple times while doing it. Even if the BP’s were sold roughly the same price as vendor, I don’t think it would be a efficient way to farm.

The greater source would be from levelling. We get one per level. I can average one rank per hour running the standard routes I take solo roaming. I spend around 60 hours a week in WvW, so that’s around 60 siege blueprints and 120badges for more blueprints a week plus Ill get BPs and badges from drops as well. For me the JP is close to being a waste of my time.

I’m actually quite surprised you would say that Yaro. Pretty much everyone I have ever spoken to about the topic has said skill lag favors numbers over skill. Your the first person I’ve ever seen who has said otherwise. Why do you think it is better for an organized smaller group?

The problem with this thread is that OP is only complaining and not providing any solution to the problem.

Then again, OP does know what a problem is. I just hope Anet devs would look at the QQ FROM BOTH SIDES and perhaps play a thief to know the difference between whakittens like on paper and how it REALLY works.

When will this class start being useful elsewhere anet???

The rewards are indeed disappointing. From the 2-3 PvP chests I received a load of skins… that I couldn’t use on my character. What’s even the point? Thanks.. for nothing I guess?

Hit deposit collectibles- it goes to you PvP locker and becomes account bound.
If you ever feel like playing PvP you have the stuff- if not, you never have to see or worry about it again.
You did get gold, bonuses, laurels, boosts, mystic stones yes? So it is hardly nothing.

What’s the best thing to do with the gear if you already have them in your PvP locker? Can we salvage them or something? Most of mine I can’t deposit as it appears you can only have one of a particular item. Not sure what I can do with them.

Also if you flip a lot, lodestones could be more profitable at any given point. I’ve seen them returning up to 25S per SP in the last week. But it fluctuates a lot and frequently. So if you go for the maximum profit you might put your sell listing in too late and end up with lodestones sitting on the market for a couple of weeks.

This market has a long way to go before I think we can deduce much from it. Seems there is a more steady demand for them than I thought there would be. But I think people who are trying to sell these for more than 20s/SP right now are dreaming and risking having siege stuck on the market and not selling for a long time. I’m staying out of this one until I have more data. I don’t like speculation.

If you’re selling siege you likely don’t care about wvw anyway… otherwise there’s a dozen commanders willing to take donations on your server I’m sure.

I don’t quite understand why people who can afford to throw 100g on a badge would need donations lol. Shouldn’t it be the other way around, commanders giving out siege to people who follow them?

As a general practice, most people leave it to the commander to place siege. I’ve seen it plenty of times before where if it goes any other way, there is just too much. Because the commander has supply check ability he can calculate how much should/can be expended so its better left in cmd hands, unless its an organized guild. So basically the commander uses 90% of the siege and others fill in with defensive stuff.

If the toon in any way could feel the backstab the thief should get revealed. This does not apply to blind since he simply missed the attack. So I do agree that block should trigger revealed.

Probably. And remove the Aegis. Although maybe I should think this through a little more, because it also automatically makes me think CnD should still grant stealth but the block stop the damage and vulnerability.

It would be nice if Anet introduced some in-game mechanics to deal with blobs, and beefed up their servers to handle the lag. But the far more viable solution is to somehow incentivize de-stacking the servers and spreading the hardcore WvW players out across all servers. Blobbing and lag won’t matter at that point.

Probably the only way to do it now is to bring back free transfers but then that may go the other way.

Once other games come out the problem will take care of itself because most of the major WvW guilds will leave the game.

Free transfers will promote further stacking in the top tiers. If they restricted it to medium servers, nothing will change in NA and it will destroy some of the top EU servers (like it did the last time). Free transfers are not the answer.

And yea, once the next big thing comes out, this problem will be over since no one will be playing anyway

Feels like the next big thing is a long way off right now. I used to be torn between multiple games that were being released around the same time. Now I just see a bunch of trash games with no real potential for longevity.

But yeah, free transfers would have the opposite effect and just make things worse.

It won’t let me thumbs up the OP, so I’ll do it IRL. This is pretty much why WvW is fail. Does Anet have eyes to see this and if so, will they ever bother doing anything about it? I have my doubts. They only want to integrate time sinks to keep people in the game, not to improve the game.

One thing I have learnt in this game. I used to give way to server loyalty and server pride. I felt this underlying burn out constantly. Then I decided I was going to play for myself and play where I enjoyed and to forget server loyalty and server pride and I have never been happier in WvW.

Even if the food buff was the best in the game which I don’t think it is at least not for most builds, I wouldn’t see it as pay to win. I’d just flip other stuff on the TP, buy gems with gold and then buy the cakes with gems.

@Pewintodo there are a few reasons EBs JP is unique from the borderlands. Firstly, EB is known as the common place for casuals to go. The borderlands are less friendly and you have to travel into areas the enemy usually are and the JPs themselves are a bit more time consuming / difficult. EB you can just WP to your keep from spawn and enter EBs JP in safety, unlike the BL’s.

I’m watching this. I have over 400 siege weapons and over 9k badges I may exchange for siege to sell on the TP. Im just a solo roamer so I have no use for much of it. I think there is going to be a huge abundance of very cheap siege and yes, I think siege is going to be very available and used more frequently. Right now from watching the prices on GW2Spidy, prices are all dropping. It could change, but I think its reflecting an oversupply of these items and prices will continue to drop. When there was only the JP, siege was tight. Now we have level 500s getting around with over 500 siege from levelling and random drops as well as JPs. Not to mention PvE players are going to want to farm the JP to make a profit.

Is it worth coming back?

It depends what kind of gamer you are whether its worth coming back or not. Yes the kept the ascended concept and added more jewel slots. Im expecting armor to be out later this year.

I think this game caters to casual players. If your one of them then maybe give the game a go again. But right now, if your a hardcore gamer, you have nothing but repetition and occasional updates in front of you with very minimal temporary content.

I’ve only had about 12 races so far. I’m pretty sure at least two of the players in that race were using speed hacks (standard warping tell). I don’t mind though. I got my wind catcher drop from a chest and it seems the worse I do in the race the better rewards I get from the chest. Players are taking it way to seriously, so I take my time so they have to wait for me hue hue.
