The rewards are abysmal. I try to do it a couple of times a week. I would honestly do them everyday if it wasn’t for the rewards. Unless you get lucky and get a few exotics which you manage to salvage insignias from your losing alot of gold running fractals.

Its kind of sad tbh. I really like fractals.

What are you doing that karma is an issue? I can’t seem to get mine lower than 8mil before I get bored of clicking and next thing I know it’s back up to 9mil.

Just my opinion , but I think they need to sort ascended mats 1st before considering EoL’s.

At one stage I was above 20 million karma. Shortly after the karma rework/nerf I probably did a stupid thing and started blowing my karma on karma armor to throw in the forge to convert to linen scrap etc. Then I made a few more legendaries etc and it started to add up.

WvW players is mean?

Yes it is normal. A single player can lose a fight by rallying dozens of players and undo an entire groups efforts. It’s considered poor form to play on uplevels with a group who wishes to not have uplevels with them. That said, nothing is stopping him from at least trying to find a group who is happy to play with uplevels. Its currently accepted by the majority that EoTM is ok for uplevels, although it kittenes me off greatly.

Have you considered that maybe you should start talking to the dozens of players that couldn’t last longer than an uplevel?

Ive never noticed said situation. Probably partly because I won’t play with uplevels. But I will keep it in mind if I ever see the situation. Generally if I am disappointed with the disorganization or casual nature of a group I am with I will break off and roam solo or try to find an organized group that takes WvW seriously.

When people say “use Soldier’s” in WvW, it’s more for simplicity. You will be in the ballpark in terms of stats for where you want to be, but not finely tweaked for optimization. Soldier’s builds are more to get you to a certain level in both survivability and damage output. But you will find most organized guild builds either do not have soldier’s gear at all or have less than 50% soldier’s gear. It’s also to compensate for a lack of composition and other negative things that come with being a PUG in WvW.

I cannot really comment more in-depth because I don’t even know what class your running. But I do think this site should help you with some guidance:

http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki

Lol metabattle tells you to run soldiers for wvw and zerk for pve for every “meta” build they have. I hear metabattle is like pvxwiki from gw1, it advertises the “best” setups in the game, but really the metas are only the best on the website. Any good gw1 player will agree that pvx wiki builds SUUUUUUUCKED! I’ve also heard many people who are up there say that DnT releases their builds to mislead people intentionally – take that as you will.

I don’t think the builds are there to intentionally mislead people. I know of one of the “administrators” there. I don’t know them well. But let’s just say I know their “real” opinions on builds. Part of the problem with the WvW meta builds is NA is garbage. Even the best guilds are garbage. And from what I know metabattle is run by NA players. So if you play in NA, how wrong can you go by NA standards?

one good method of gold/hr is to sell an arah path, it takes ~40min to solo (with practice) and you make about 25g. I was talking with a buyer and apparently there’s a shortage of sellers recently—so less competition if you were to sell around peak time. This use to be my main source of income when I was farming for my last legendary, along with dungeon runs and playing the TP I would make like 40-50g a day.

O_O there are repeat customers to arah sellers? why???
let’s say they pay 5g, they get 3g back. maybe 60s from the tokens. maybe 50s from loot, because I’m pretty sure the seller doesn’t allow them to get the boss chest, so it’s only the dungeon completion chest. still, that’s a 1g loss every time. why would they pay for that? I was under the impression they were paying for dungeon path completion achievement, which is not repeatable.

I payed for about 10 paths. About 5 of them were because I needed dungeon completion, but with dungeon completion you have to do all paths on the same character so I ended up having to do it more often. I blew those tokens and ended up making a legendary and theres no way you will catch me running arah.

And Arah has some of the best looking armor. Now theres also the new achievements which require you to unlock all the arah armor and weapons.

And each path is 60 tokens which can be converted into ~2 globs and a chance at inscription. Or roll for a pre in the forge?

Did I mention I hate running arah?

What they need to do is remove the need for scouting at all. Yes I just said that. Players should not have to physically scout. It is BS that people who play a video game for enjoyment should have to spend hours and hours sitting at a defensive structure waiting to see if enemy come. If you disagree with me, I’m calling you a masochist. Scouting structures should be automated in some way, whether it be by upgrades to structures or some other sorts.

Nobody mentioned frostgorge sound champ farming? It has changed a bit recently, but the current path is Coil watch – trio – wurm – drake – troll. That is around 20-25 champs at coil watch + 6 so around 30 champ bags for about 20-25 minutes or around 90 champ bags an hour. For an average run on coiled watch I also get an average of about 6-8 rares and 1 exotic (often named). It’s easily 20 gold per hour. Part of it will be in material but W/E.

I’m currently in the same boat as you though. I would recommend you do multiple things in those 4-6 hours. I have set dungeon paths I do each day + a 1 hour node farm path + frost gorge sound farm + edge of the mists (mostly for karma). If you just do one of those they will do your head in tbh. Better to break up the monotony and experience more of the game whilst maximising profits from your activities.

How long to get first precursor

What I find strange is that I can farm for 5 hours and buy the cheapest precursor on the TP or I can farm for 75 hours to buy the most expensive precursor on the TP, yet in 8000 hours of gameplay I have only had two drop (one from wvw and one from mystic forge). There seems to be this massive disparity in terms of how many drop and how much they cost. Demand cannot be that low because I see people with legendaries all the time and I am always in discussion with people in the process of making one or more. Something just doesn’t seem right to me. If I can grind the gold to buy a precursor between 5 and 75 hours, depending on which one, how can I go an average of 4000 hours between acquiring one by means other than the tp?

OK will do this. Originally I was thinking about selling blues and green. But quite frankly, in most cases I think I would be losing alot of gold in the long run not salvaging it since the majority of blues/greens sell too low for what they yield from salvaging. My biggest problem is my bank full of bloodstone dust and no karma leaving me with not much storage space :p

Its mostly down to rewards. I did capture this stuff quite frequently in the past. But WvW is not rewarding as it is so going about doing the things that are not personally rewarding at all is just a joke. For a while I tried to get a balance between zerging/running with guilds and roaming to contribute the small objectives, but you just end up broke and having a bad taste in your mouth…

The other thing is, there are alot of people out there who lack the confidence and/or skills and knowledge to roam and to potentially take on multiple enemies solo. In NA I would say the large majority of players have little to no experience in solo roaming. As someone who has solo roamed in the past its common place to run into the same people over and over again and rare to run into someone whom I haven’t fought before.

Outside maybe T1, is there actually a time where any 3 servers are on at the same time outside the first 4 hours of reset? Or should a weeklong match be decided by those 4 hours because at any given time, 1 of the servers is asleep?

3 people can take a tower, the week wouldn’t be decided by the first four hours on reset, there are always people playing, they just are not noticeable because one of the servers will always have more coverage.
If a three person team takes a tower the way things are now, they will most likely not increase their servers score, because it will immediately be flipped back by the server with the most coverage. If that 3 person team received points/recognition that they took an objective IMO it would better represent their effort and successful captures.

Less of an all or nothing approach to scoring.

Go play EOTM. Matchups are different every week with different players, guilds, commanders etc etc.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, EOTM is exactly the same no matter the week, either you have a zerg, karma farming, or you don’t. No more fun in EOTM then there was doing the Queensdale champ train.

Sounds like you need to join a real WvW guild. There are some awesome tagless guild raids in EoTM.

In the past, there were guilds that claimed they could do it. Have they all moved on or decayed or was that never really true?

I played on BG during the golden days of GW2, and I personally never seen one.

Several guilds were capable of it. On BG, it was KnT and ND, AoI on reset. TC had CERN. JQ had SF, SG, WvW, old school FoO and ATM. None of them can do that now and some of them are no longer around.

Pretty sure IRON from SOR in their prime (pre season 1) pulled it off a couple of times.

or not rewarded at all. These individuals become sample cases and spotlights for experiences that maybe shouldn’t exist.

This is me…NOT REWARDED AT ALL

Its one of the reasons I do not play GW2 much any more…my steam catalogue of games plus Diablo 3 are FAR, FAR MORE REWARDING. I feel any time I spend playing GW2 to be a utter and complete waste, with zero forward progression for anyone of my characters. The only exceptions are fractals, where you go up ranks and WvW ranks, where you can build your ranks and get a regular chest reward too.

I have played 1,500-2,000 hrs of GW2, NEVER HAD A PRECURSOR DROP, you should be ashamed of yourself John Smith for such a crap reward system.

2Add secondary reward mechanisms (ie. token based system) alongside the primary RNG system; allow progress to be made even when you don’t get the result you want.

This is the reward system I most like…just set a price on something and I will collect the tokens and pick my own reward. Don’t make it a secondary reward system, scrap RNG completely and just have all rewards token based.

Ocassionally, often during festivals you have the tokens, collect reward from the vendor, that’s when I personally play GW2 the most, because I actually have a reason to play the game, a goal…

1500-2000 hours without a precursor drop is a common them among most players. My first precursor drop (which was from WvW) was after I had played over 4500 hours on my MAIN account. The second precursor drop (which was from the mystic forge) was after my MAIN account had over 5500 hours racked up. And I have a few alt accounts with about 2500 hours up in total with no precursor drop.

Ive had two precursor drops. The first one (QUIP in WvW) was the same day I transferred to SFR on EU from BG on NA. The second one (DUSK from MF) was right after I had come back from a 6 month break from the game. I also notice a regular increase in rares and exotics if I take a break from the game for a few days. I believe Johns belief is just a belief and there is something working here in the background that he is not aware of. Either way, we will never know, because Anet would never release that information.

I just want magic find to make a difference.

Magic find makes a huge difference.

I think he meant a meaningful difference. I’m sure across the board there are noticeable differences, but as a single player I don’t notice anything.
It sucks when you use magic find booster, birthday booster and food etc. to boost your magic find and not run into a single exotic.
I’ve ran down entire 24 hour birthday boosters without a single exotic drop.

That’s simply a perception issue … that only a player can change. Birthday booster didn’t guarantee exotic drops. It’s the same argument that JS referred to as this clustering phenomenon. Based on other players experiences AND the confirmation from JS, MF does work.

He only said it does makes a huge difference. But how does it make a huge difference? Most of the farming these days involves opening guaranteed chests from participation in a specific event where magic find has no bearing on what comes out of said chest. Magic find used to make a huge difference, I have no doubt about that. But I really have to disagree that it makes a huge difference these days because of the simple fact that your getting most of your loot from champion bags, dungeon chests, boss chests etc. So yeah, it still makes a difference. But I disagree that it makes “a huge difference” because of the way the game has been evolved with champion farming when thats not how the game used to work.

Well its your own choice to go champ farming and make your primary goal boxes that arent affected by mf.
Champ farming is actually not a very good way of getting lots of loot or gold. IF you opt to farm lots of mobs (or players in wvw), you will most certainly have better loot and more gold and mf is friend there.
Because so many people do champ trains, you wont get ahead of them in your earnings, either, if you also do it.
Gold rewards from dungeons might have been nice the first 6 months after they got introduced but due to inflation they lost alot of value by now.

I do what I think benefits me the most. The way I see it the top farming methods are:

1. FGS champ farm 15-20g per hour
2. Dungeons 10-15g per hour
3. Node farming ~10g per hour
4. EoTM (more for the karma)
5. BLK farming pre NPE rework ~15g per hour
6. Orr Temple runs 5-10g per hour
7. Boss farming ~8g per hour
8. Drytop event farming ~10g per hour

With all these “farming method” the primary loot is not effected by magic find. With all of these “farming methods”, simply being in a party will have a larger effect on your end rewards than the 308% account bound magic find, 50% magic find from a booster, 40% magic find from food, 100% magic find from a birthday booster, magic find infusion combined with a magic find banner 15% (533% magic find). Even simply running a berserker/high damage build has a larger effect because it increases your chances of getting credit. You say its my choice to do farming methods that do not utilize magic find to its maximum potential. But is it? I certainly wouldn’t be doing these things if I didn’t think the end result was worse. Who’s choice is it really? Who really has control of what I do? Or am I missing something. Which farming methods do you think maximize the utilization of magic find to its greatest effect and can yield better results than the ones I have mentioned above?

If node farming is something you enjoy you should try to make some paths. I have been recently testing some paths myself and found you can actually gather over 10 gold worth of materials in 1 hour.

Alternatively you can go to frostgorge sound and do the champ farm there. Currently they do: coil even – trio champ – champ wurm – champ drake – champ troll and then back to coil. Not sure on how long that takes tbh (maybe 40 minutes – will have to time it) but you get around 20 champ bags from coil, 4 from trio and 3 from the others so you get around 27 champ bags per lap and coil also drops alot of rares/exotics/black lion keys etc. The champ bags have stuff like genesis (got this this morning and sold it for 45 gold). Dungeons are a good consistent way to make coin, but I honestly think FGS champ farm yields more.

If your looking for legendaries, might wanna check out edge of the mists and fractals as well, as these are the best places to farm karma. I recently finished making 3 legendaries and Im making another 3 at the same time and its amazing how much karma you need. Karma used to be easy to come by but its alot harder now.

I didn’t realise when I first came back. But EOTM has completely sucked a huge amount of players out of WvW. The rewards across the board are better. There is short term matches. There is regular karma trains to attract casuals. There are casuals that attract organized guilds to come farm. From the numbers I am personally seeing, if you count “EOTM” as a part of “WvW” than I honestly thing WvW actually has more players then ever. The problem is EOTM is just supposed to be a side show for when WvW map caps are reached…

I got 8 giant eyes which I sold for around 4g a piece. They certainly seem like they would be a pain to spot farm.

And just to point out this has been happening to me alot the last couple of days.

Not to mention the fact that alot of the significant drops these days are from chests that are not effected by magic find when you open them (IE champ bags, boss chests).

From my experience, whenever I join a group with “exp” advertised, it usually means the group is not experienced and are looking to learn from players who are. I tend to avoid joining parties with “exp” advertised because it often, but not always, results in joining a party that I either have to teach or carry or I have a host who doesn’t know what he is doing and blames everyone else when he’s doing the wrong thing.

Roaming on T1 is extremely boring and disappointing these days. A small scale fight seems to be 1 or 2 players trying their hardest to bait you into a 1v10. It never used to be like that, not in T1. Ive solo roamed there and in most tiers for a long time. These days people can’t handle fighting 1v1, 1v2 or 1v3(even in their favor). Everything is bait and try to get a ridiculously uneven fight in their favor. So, basically, T1 is now full of scrub wannabe roamers who are garbage. The sad thing is I know of some of the ones on Blackgate (Im from BG) and they are really horrible bad players and they have this reputation among BG players as being good but their are facepalm bad. There are some pretty good large scale guild on BG (by NA standards not EU standards), but there are no good roamers…. all you will learn there is how to run from 10 players etc etc yada yada. The same thing seems to be happening on JQ. Its hard to get a 1v1, 1v2 or 1v3 these days.

Nope. U’ve got no PvE gear in PvP, which is cool, while in WvW u can use ur PvE gear, stats, consumable things, and build. Also low lvls dies in the 2 seconds ;D So it cant be the same thing.
Also…
100 people can smash 10, while in PvP u’ve got clearly defined number of players.
Also…
U’ve got the ability to join as a spectator, and ability to create ur own arena, team etc etc…

I like to play WvW occasionally, but simply prefer PvP.
Ofc u can say that PvP sucks, but IMO it’s still better than WvW, and PvP from other MMORPG’s.
I do not know another mmorpg, which creates a PvP in the MOBA style.

True. But I have often wondered why. Like…. I don’t have much of an interest in sPvP in this game and if I had an interest in a MOBA style PvP I would definitely play a different game. The combat mechanics are pretty god-awful for MOBA style PvP. I actually picked up this game from a MOBA style because I wanted to play a casual game for a while. That soon lost my interest, but WvW in its uniqueness (from my perspective), is what kept me here.

As a pug I must admit Im interested in joining a dungeon guild myself as I don’t like that as a pug I regularly have to carry terrible players through dungeons who don’t care that they are terrible because at the end of the dungeon they still get the same reward that you do.

Immobolize and WvW, never to be fixed

So I walk through my portal into my keep tonight that is under attack. I find 5 enemy players and one more on a catapult. The players are camping the portal. I am immediately immobilized. No problem, I cleanse with a shout. I am immediately immobilized again. Ok I have to move back towards the portal, so I use another shout to cleanse. I am immediately immobilized again. Last shout, fingers crossed. I am immediately immobilized again, for 35 seconds. I’m in trouble. I have two choices that come immediately to mind. I can burn all my utility skills, that is (since I have already burnt most of them trying to counter the conditions), signet of resolve and renewed focus. But the animations for neither signet of resolve or renewed focus work, apparently because I am mid air and/or I can’t move or turn. So I could always drop a light field and whirling wrath on it and hope I cleanse it. But I cannot use skills, again probably because I am mid air and/or cannot move. RIP me.

Node farming guide?

Does anyone know of any of these? I mean running from one node to the next farming them, with specifics such as paths? I recently did a 1 hour run precisely and found that I can make over 10 gold an hour doing this (by selling anything I gathered at lowest seller -1 copper, vendoring anything I couldn’t make a profit from). Its a nice stress free way to farm. No fighting, just running from one node to the next. But it would be a bit tiring to work out various paths that are worth it and those that aren’t.

Scoring Discussion

If even a small percentage of the suggestions in this thread and the previous thread go ahead and be implemented, you might as well just delete WvW now and keep EoTM. The discussions in these threads are pushing towards killing WvW and that is what will happen. To quote something said on Teamspeak recently from a well known commander from a well known guild, “I have no intention of being involved in this discussion thread. If Anet want to kill the game mode than that’s on them.” Tread lightly. That’s my only suggestion.

28 hours for 37 maps fully completed. I’m going to call hacks.

So I listed my guild catapult on the TP

Did you close and re-open your BLTP?

Unless you’re using the API, or a standard web browser you’re not going to be able to refresh fast enough to see how many things were bought at any given purchase (and that doesn’t account for multiple people buying at the same time).

Your question has been answered, so I suggest we leave this thread to die.

Mid week, guild catas won’t have that high a turnover. The only time you would see that high amount purchased is pre-reset. And with the way you produce catas (24 hours per guild production slot), you wouldn’t be getting 50 odd listed all at once within a few minutes. Just take a look at them or try listing 50 for yourself. It takes a long time for 50 to clear on the TP. I can list the lowest price and it could sit there for 12 hours without being undercut and not sell. There is something up with the TP.

I lost to a Ranger

I used to find Necro and Mesmer most difficult classes to fight. But now it’s ranger. I always test a Necro or Mesmer before I fully commit. If they have a decent dualing build and I can’t finish them quickly then I will run away. But rangers aren’t worth testing because their damage output is so high I cannot run away. There are still alot of bad rangers getting around though. Its just you don’t know until its too late.

What I do find gamebreaking about them is when they pick you out of a zerg and lock onto you. It seems to happen to me too often, im guessing because Im mithril rank and they are looking to kill the higher ranks in the group. And once they lock on your pretty much taking fast 2.5k+ autos from 2000 range on your heavy and your burning all your cooldowns just dealing with that damage. Pretty much a death sentence.

sniper working as intended.

Tell the guardians in your zerg to drop a wall of reflection behind you, or equip shield with missile deflection trait and watch said ranger destroy itself pretty quickly.
It’s often quite hard to notice the reflect inbetween all the particle effects and the hectic movement inside a zerg.

So spec out my utility and weapon skills specifically to deal with rangers, something I don’t have to do with any other class. OK. Nah I will just roll a ranger.

Tips to Surviving in WvW for Beginners

Sentinel’s and nomad’s are terrible armor sets for WvW.

I came back to the game recently. When I quit I completely stripped my account and donated all my gold. When I came back I immediately geared my guardian with full PVT because its a cheap place to start. Eventually I will trade it out with a balance of knights/soldiers and theory craft tweak it from there. PVT is not the best but its a good starting point.

Bank and Bag Expansions

I don’t like that there are caps. You should be able to buy as many as you want regardless of the current scenario. My main account got hacked last year and Anet never returned my bank collections size when my account was restored. So I cannot even buy them again because I am capped on something I don’t own. Ive sent in support tickets but some 10-12months later, no fix, no reply.
