Anything can happen, it depends on the determination and creativity of the developers as well as support from the community. I played LoL since near end of it’s beta. I would have never guessed it’d be as hugely popular as it is today. That is entirely because of the two factors I’ve stated.

I think the people saying “Oh definitely not, cause reasons” don’t really see how much a game can develop in a years time with an entire development team behind it. Or they’re just upset with how PvP currently is. I don’t really like it that much either, but I have every bit of confidence in Anet.

PvP and HotM needs a good amount of work Imo, but it can definitely happen. GW2 already has the player base.

A good chunk of the PvP players have left this game already.

Yes, it is doable, but extremely unlikely, the amount of resources it would take to make SPvP e-sport viable would be insane.

Other MMOs with far tighter balance, far larger following and far more resources have failed at entering the esports scene, its not exactly easy.

If Anet manages to do it, hats off to them, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

Not a chance lol.

Is there any chance you will elaborate?

I, for one, am interested in what your reasoning is for your opinion.

SPvP isn’t very popular because the majority do not find it fun to play.

If the majority do not find it fun to play how is it supposed to be fun to watch?

well ya they only have “capture the point” at the moment since release and after five years of development they could not predict that only having one style (capture the point) of Spvp would not be popular?

did something happen that they haven’t told us about their goal to be an e-sport? has the goal to be an e-sport been abandoned?

Even if they add more gamemodes and such, the game still won’t be fun to watch because the combat is so shallow as it stands at the moment.

There is little in the way of spectator value in this game.

Engineer generally > Thief 1v1, good thieves are annoying and you wont kill them, but they wont kill you either unless you slip up.

Yeah, you have been up against bad rifle warriors. Even with the ideal spec (basically anything that doesn’t use rifles or grenades) its going to be an extremely tough fight.

Basically any class that can keep us at mid/long range for any length of time will demolish us, but this game is balanced around rock/paper/scissors mentality. If you are a condi engi and you run into a necro just save yourself the effort and sit down and die, likewise if a thief jumps you, well he shouldn’t have jumped you lol.

I exaggerated a bit on the warrior vs engi matchup, if the engi uses any variation of pistols then its in the engineers favor if the warrior spams skill while confused, but against a good warrior you still shouldn’t win unless you outplay him something fierce. But if its a rifle engi vs rifle warrior and the warrior loses, well kitten that’s one horrible warrior.

This is from my experience in TPvP and roaming WvW from about 1.5 months ago. IE before engi kits got nerfed into the ground.

actually in retrospect engi vs thief isn’t that one sided either. Pro thieves will dodge supply drop and if that happens or if you miss it for whatever reason, its a downhill fight for you (assuming they have thieves guild elite)

first off i said a smart engineer will beat a thief, not a stupid engineer playing the typical meta builds, second rifle warrior over a rifle engineer lol what a joke, now the only way a rifle warrior is gonna beat a rifle engineer is if he has massive damage and gets lucky, meaning that skilled rifle warrior verses a skilled rifle engineer has got nothing, its a simple dodge dodge knock back blunderbuss jump shot net shoot in the back till hes dead, and that’s with out using any utility skills.

3rd getting kitted ……really lol, id like to explain that to ya but clearly you don’t know how to play the engineer to its best potential, and for the last thing why are you relying on 1 skill supply drop to take out a thief most good thief’s i face do dodge it, nice one good on them, here let me show you some of the sick cc i have, o wait u went invisible doesn’t stop me from shooting you.

and finally if u have so much ways of explaining why a engineer fails in these areas please go out with you engineer fraps some kitten and prove that the engineer is under par, till then you clearly dont know what your doing with the engineer and therefore are not a skilled player

p.s grenade kits are better then they were before stop rolling with the meta and u will see why

You tell me I’m a bad engineer.

Then you tell me you knock back a class that has better ranged firepower than you.

You also tell me you use nothing but rifle skills to kill a rifle warrior.

On thieves, I don’t rely on supply drop to kill them, missing supply drop and being up against a thief with TG up isn’t an easy fight, that’s all I was saying, you seem to be getting awfully defensive for someone that feels as though the class is in a fine place.

Grenade damage reduced 30%

in Engineer

Posted by: nofo.8469

nofo.8469

Uhhh I am wearing full zerkers + all zerker trinkets + 30 in explosives + 30 in tool and i am only doing around 1.1 – 1.2k dmg per grenade WITH no.2 and no.4 skills only. The auto only crits for around 900 and im pretty sure other classes can do a lot more damage with full zerkers / glass cannon. All the grenades actually have to hit as well to get full damage.

where are we going with this. 900 × 3 grenades is 2.7k. are 2.7k auto attack crits bad? are 3.6k shrapnel grenades on a 5 second cd bad? are 7k grenade barrages bad? how bout easy 15k bursts when we dump our toolbelt on someone with some static discharge?

of course other classes can do more damage. grenades are a 1500 range weapon. grenade auto attack is on par with fireball and longbow.

engi’s have some problems, but grenade damage isnt bad. i think arguing that grenades have trouble hitting their target to do their intended damage is much stronger than trying to argue the damage itself is bad.

Grenade damage isn’t bad.

Compared to the rest of our options, this doesn’t say much though.

Grenade is a 1500 range weapon and it does almost 0 damage at that range. Its effective range against players is about the same as blunderbuss. PvE its a bit different but don’t pull the 1500 range argument it makes you sound rather stupid.

Even if your opponent stands still there would be no high DPS grenade centric builds.

Given you want to play TPvP the opponents there generally have a vague idea what they are doing. (unless you are unpaid pugging in which case its pretty random)

You are better off focusing on point defense or playing another class tbh.

I have an engineer since the beginning of the game and haven’t rolled another profession except spvp, and i fare better then the most since confronted many in spvp and wvw but most of you guys are right about the damage.
Have the developers roll an engineer on spvp and wvw and have them bashed to pieces,(trust me they will get frustrated just like any of us),then i believe next day we will see a spike in damage and traits. I believe developers play the game but i don’t think they play pvp as much as any of us.

Remember there’s only like 2 people on class balance. Odds that they play engineer on a regular basis is rather low.

tPvP is where it counts

you could’ve left it at that. you are judging the entire class based on a single facet. i concede, after having long been in demand for great bunker-ness, stability and blind, engineers are no longer part of the tpvp meta. outside of that, engineers are doing great.

though i would hardly call the amount of people who think crying on the forums results in class changes “few.”

Oh come on you seriously think this class is optimal in PvE or WvW either?

WvW doesn’t really matter I guess because its just a PvD zergfest and hopping on a ballista or cart will make you optimal.

But PvE? ahahhahaha.

No.

Grenade damage reduced 30%

in Engineer

Posted by: nofo.8469

nofo.8469

A completely needed damage reduction? Maybe in sPvP or PvE, but not in WvW.

My grenades now do around 1000 damage normal / 1900 critical. The Elementalist I started after the Dec 14th update does 2000 damage normal / 5000 critical.

The only thing overpowered about grenades is that they are so small you can’t see them coming, unlike fireball which is hard to miss.

are we comparing apples to oranges or what exactly? you are only seeing 1900 crits? 1 grenade can crit for 800-900 damage, = 2400-2700 crits when all 3 hit. thats with only +50% crit damage, so we could easily push that much higher.

anyway, as for the elementalist: what skill are you seeing 5k crits with? cause i wont buy for a second that you are seeing 5k’s with fireball. that kind of damage is limited to only a handfull of abilities, and only when full glass:
-meteor
-lightning surge
-ice spike
-arcane blast / wave
-dragons tooth
-phoenix
-fire grab
-blazing speed
-churning earth

not a single one of those are direct comparisons to spammable 1500 range grenades, and all but the arcane skills and lightning surge have a reasonable chance to miss. not that it really matters, since there are so many other factors (that they can be strung together with lightning strike on attunement swap for exceedingly brutal burst).

anyway. engi’s have problems. grenade damage isnt one of them.

The odds of all 3 hitting, let alone critting is extremely low in everything outside of PvE.

No, it needed a re-design, there shouldn’t be a kit that does superior damage at every possible range to anything else we have.

If they nerfed or redesigned grenades to give the class more variety in terms of damage dealing specs I would be ecstatic, but as it stands all they did was nerf it into the ground and call it a day.

Was a grenade change needed? Absolutely. Was this it? God no this is quite possibly the most braindead kneejerk reaction I have seen from a developer in regard to balance in a very long time.

As a roleplayer (although not in this game), I feel obligated to point out that using tells or party chat is both common sense and common courtesy. This game has a T rating, and the content is actually extremely tame for a T rating. Expecting everyone who plays it to be okay with mature topics is unreasonable. They are considered “mature” or “touchy” topics by society in general for a reason, whether you are personally bothered or not.

I also feel obligated to point out that GW2 is a horrible platform for roleplaying anyway. There are so many other things hindering your experience that focusing on this one is laughable.

And I know that it has become popular to whine, cry, and kick your feet when you are offended in this day and age…like when you hear something on the radio that you find offensive and decide to try and get them thrown off the air.

But, and bare with me here…there’s this thing people used to have called ‘common sense’. And what you do when you don’t like something is you ignore it or go where you don’t have to hear/see it. In the radio example that would be to simply change the station. In the game it’s for you to go where the RPers aren’t. Usually they are in taverns and such, so…don’t hang out at a tavern. Problem solved.

I don’t know why we’ve gotten to this point in our lives, but you do not have the right to not be offended. Arenanet, however, can choose to run things that way if they wish. And if they do, then they’ll suffer the consequences of such oppressive, PC-friendly garbage.

Here’s the thing: I’m not offended by these topics. I have good reason to believe I’m actually far more desensitized to them than most people. And I recognize that. There are plenty of venues online and even offline to roleplay my angsty character concept with a depraved past. Why should I insist on using a game that bills itself as family friendly for that? To do so would be hurting both myself (because I’d be restricted by the TOS or risk infractions) and members of the community (who bought the game specifically because it was family-friendly.)

You had the option to read the TOS before you bought the game. If you have an issue with the notion of political correctness, then you probably shouldn’t have supported a company who enforces it. People who create media aim for certain ratings because that’s what sells.

This.

Although I don’t roleplay often myself, I have done it in previous games and it can definitely be lots of fun sometimes.

But this is a company that can and will temp ban people for using any expletives in game, it sucks for anyone over the age of 14 that isn’t overly sensitive not just you roleplayers.

Saying that though, the only advice I can give is if you are going to roleplay anything that is even remotely mature do it in a place that’s fairly isolated where the odds of some prudes finding you are rather low.

i played +2k hours gw1, i played +4k hours wow, i quitted gw2 after 40hours, anet must copy gw1, copy wow, or make it a sandbox mmorpg, if gw2 stay in the mid it will fail.

Don’t need another wow, dont need another GW1 and sandboxes have yet to succeed, sadly.

Ever heard of EVE?

That’s not a sandbox, that’s an economy simulator that consists of being AFK for months while leveling skills.
Care to tell me what end game in EVE might be?

PvP.

EVE gameplay isn’t my cup of tea either but saying its not a sandbox = lol.

Games like SB and UO were also successful sandboxes for their time.

Last I checked if you went AFK for months in EVE your skills would actually go down.

Even though I don’t particularly like EVE, the designers know what they want to do with the game and it has clear direction. It has a clear target audience (people who like sandbox PvP MMO and don’t mind sci fi spreadsheets)

I can’t say the same for this game, it needs direction. If they want to push it as an E-sport, why is SPvP so barebones and why do half the classes have at least 3 broken traits/abilities, where are my spectators, SPvP isn’t fun to play let alone watch.

If they want it to be a server competitive WvW game why is it a PvD zerg fest with no reward for yourself, your guild or your server, where are the leaderboards?

If they want it to be a PvE game, why is the group coordination so shallow, where is the content, why are classes horrendously balanced for PvE, where is the loot, why are the fights so repetitive, honestly I’m not sure what I prefer, “progression” content or grinding fractals, both are bad in my eyes but I’m not much of a PvEer.

This is a great exploration game and was worth my $60, but I’m not going to pretend it excels at anything in the MMO market.

@OP Engineer is a very fun class and I am glad you are enjoying it.

But as for playstyle, you seem to be trying to out DPS your opponents and that is the wrong mentality to have for an engineer, you should be trying to outlast your opponent by controlling him with things like zone denial (bombs) and knockbacks.

Once you have control of the fight it should be a victory, getting control is the hard part.

Only other advice I can think of is always take a stunbreaker with you in PvP. You will need it to survive warrior burst if you can’t dodge it or any bass venom thieves that remain.

As for contributing to fights, in small scale fights try to protect your ranged people, your skills don’t synergise very well with what you have, but they do synergise very well with what other people have. IE having a ton of knockbacks on a primarily short range character isn’t particularly useful to you, it would be more useful to say a ranger in your group.

As for zerg fighting, it doesn’t matter, healing fields and grenades are what I used to do when forced to do it. If they stack drop a supply drop on them for lols.

there was to much to read so excuse me if i repeat some thing that has already been talked about

First of ive been playing engi since i started which was a good 3 months ago, now i pritty much only play WvW and most of that time is spent solo roaming, apart from the more often then not getting stomped by zergs, engineers easily hold there own and they dont take a high amount of skill to play its simply getting your combos right not mashing buttons like a idiot, and lets face it theres a counter for everything and engineers are more then versatile to have a counter for everything and ive proven this time and time again, and to that nofo.8469 guy who said.

Engineer is fine in most 1v1 situations with people that can’t kite you. So to the people that say they can stomp noob thieves or w/e, no kitten. See how you fare against oh I don’t know, a good rifle warrior or something.

im genna be totally honest here and say that skilled thieves are pritty easy to beat for a smart engineer unless ure running the sd/grenade build then its just hilarious to fight thieves, and please find a skilled rifle warrior for me face the ones ive versed so far must be terrible players because rifle warriors fail so hard verses my engineer

What GW2 lacks in: Endgame

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nofo.8469

nofo.8469

The endgame.. what does that even mean?

If you refer to content well as we all know content gets chewed through faster than developers can create it. When you do get new content and you chew through it, it then gets toss aside and no longer counts as this “endgame.”

Is it repeatable content? There is a share of repeatable content available to us. Activities, World vs World, Monetary Wealth Acquisition(there is a title for that), Helping your Guild, Dungeon Running, Fractals, Venting rage on poor defenseless rabbits and other tiny defenseless animals.

Your rant doesn’t give any actual solid suggestions on what you are actually after in this elusive “endgame.” Content? More Mechanic-Driven Dungeons? More Fractals? More Lands to Explore? More Dynamic Events?

Really what GuildWars2 lacks isn’t endgame, its player influenced content. Whether this be player created quests, guild halls, player housing, or Player-Made Jumping Puzzles, Guild- We need something that we can share with everyone else and in the process create our own endless content.

Well, personally I was expecting WvW with some depth, or GvG combat, anything like that.

It was the only endgame I could think of them implementing given that its a F2P game and their resources are limited compared to pay per month games.

But yeah, now they went down the fractal track they basically gotta keep releasing new PvE content to keep people hooked and they currently don’t have the resources to do so and they know it all too well, hence the push for the gem store.

Suggestions? Make gem store items more appealing rather than destroying the rest of your game to force people to use it, you already alienated your PvP playerbase so that’s about the only option you have left.

Then once you have improved your income from the game release addictive new content. Classes/Dungeons/Seasonal RNG money spikes/zones etc etc.

Lack of communication during holidays

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nofo.8469

All I’m saying, is that the communication here has been terrible, and there’s really no good reason for it that we’ve seen or heard (I’m all ears if someone would like to correct me on that). You cite things like hours in the day; then explain why Trion publishes such an amazing product in Rift and yet manages to maintain a solid and open line of communication with their playerbase? I’m not making it up. As I said, you can go right to their site, and see who has what job title, and how often they’ve been posting. It’s not a “specialized team” of people who interface with the community (although they have those, too- their CM James “Elrar” is awesome); it’s the actual class leads and content designers and developers.

Firstly I wasn’t directly addressing you with my post, I was addressing the whole thread. Sorry if that quote seemed to imply I was directly critiquing you, I just found that quote to be particularly ridiculous.

Secondly you seemed to ignore half of this point… The point made was you either cut into the developers development time or their personal time.

Personally I already think the arenanet devs go above and beyond with the work they put out for us. Cutting into their personal time to answer many of the sensationalist player grievances would be detrimental to their well being. I’m sure they already do work over time at times to try and fit as much as they can into each patch. This is their creation and they clearly take pride in their work.

This is a true dichotomy… You can either cut into development time or you cut into their personal time. Either one is detrimental to the game as a whole and the net benefits are debatable.
Rift puts out content at a much slower rate than arenanet have been doing and personally I’d say its lower quality. However that is merely my opinion, what is not is that you cannot compare these two situations as equal as they are not.

Rifts player communication wasn’t always as it is today and it has been out considerably longer than gw2. The development team obviously had to make time in their work schedule to do these things, which means time they are not working on the game.

In time I am sure better communication will be achieved, the expectation that its there from the start of an mmorpgs release is basically expecting far too much.

Expecting communication when the developers make drastic changes seemingly at random isn’t asking too much imho.

If this game was static, I would understand the lack of communication, but the devs are clearly making great efforts to evolve the game which is admirable.

Some players often have a lot of investment in the content of the game or their class, seeing it change so drastically without even a “hey, this is our goal with this content, if you have any suggestions or feedback we would love to hear it.” Something like that, even if it was shallow and they had no intention of listening to feedback would go a long way.

What do you think is overall the best profession, and why?

thing with communication is….anet has to be careful with the wording and the exact meaning behind each statement they make, because they are considered OFFICIAL posts.

if something was said that wasn’t completely true and someone(probably a ton) of players found out(which has happened) imagine the amount of flak the devs come under.

Hi, thinking of rolling an engineer. Need some…advice :p

1. I guess stacking condition is pretty useful?
2. What are pretty good leveling builds? Not looking for OP, or “Whats the best”, just something where it will be interesting.
3. What race and sex are you? This is a big question mark for me. I already think carrying a pack of goodies on my back is..goofy. And the only classes I can logically see being engineers are Charr and Asura, however cliché. However, Asura are too small for me, where I wont see their gear. And Im not fond of running on all fours! I dont want to be human, kind of sick of them. Sylvari..just dont go with engineer in my opinion…Norn either.
4. How are engineers leveling? Difficult? Boring? Interesting? More rotational based like an elementalist, or does it completely dynamically change during the fight..from fight to fight. Will I be pulling my hair out from difficulty or frustration? Are there many bugs?
5. How are engineers at max level, in say fractals? I love having engis in dungeons, but I see very few in fractals these days. Why?

You don’t see many engineers in fractals because:

1) the class is definitely one of the less/least popular.

2) engineers are.. far from optimal for fractal progression.

I used to run in a regular fractal group, and 2 of the members had engineers. They never brought them simply because they didn’t offer anything useful that other classes couldn’t, while doing much less damage.

This was before our main source of damage was nerfed into the ground.

The class is fun to play and level, but if you are after high end fractal progression I wouldn’t main engineer, still worth leveling though IMO.

Kitten is a very apt term for the people who report others for swearing.

To the folks saying swearing is immature or whatever, no. The only time in my life I remember when people actually got worked up about swearing is K-4th grade.

There are kids in this game, and the filter is automatically in place for them I get that, but if you are a fully functioning adult and you get worked up over a few swear words holy kitten.

Engineer is fine in most 1v1 situations with people that can’t kite you. So to the people that say they can stomp noob thieves or w/e, no kitten. See how you fare against oh I don’t know, a good rifle warrior or something.

Engineers are ok in SPvP because people are forced to fight on points, and the class strength is knocking people back which is very helpful for controlling points.

Now, more on the class strength, knocking people back is borderline useless in PvE and in WvW actually hurts you against any class that has ranged capability because our effective range is extremely short.

Strengths

Large ammounts of CC.
Fun to play – don’t see many people that see engineer is boring to play.

Weaknesses

Garbage damage. Anyone that tries to argue this hasn’t played other classes. Even my mesmer is a DPS powerhouse in comparison for gods sake.
Only short range class which survivability comes from knocking people away from us.

The level 80 areas are impossible to solo. I think that this is part of their “anti-bot” strategy. It sucks because I solo alot to since I prefer open world over dungeons but I don’t think it is going to change. It is well documented that Anet expects players to party all the time. There are rewards (additional drop rates) for being in a party as well. No room for “lone wolves” in GW2!

Which zone is impossible to solo? I’m walking casually around all areas in Orr/Frostgorge without any problems… if anything they need to up the difficulty there, being an end-game zone and all.

Of course this happens afrer you learn your profession and start using “proper” builds. Once that happens and you get the hang of the zone AND your character you should be able to move around Orr while sleeping.

So let me get this straight, What you are saying is there are only cookie cutter builds that are viable and if you stray from those then you shouldnt be able to play the game? Excuse me, then why the build structure at all then? Why not lock everyone into a particular build and forgo the ability to customize your character at all. The fact that I can destroy a normal mob in mere seconds and can take on any veteran mob without worry of ever dying tells me that my build is pretty decent. Yet when it comes to risen and risen ONLY, do I have issues where I can die in mere seconds. My gear is decent, my weapons seem decent, nothing has changed from the entire rest of the game with the exception of the risen being stupidly over powered (which they have been the entire game as well). I watched an interview just earlier today where they talked about not changing the game at 80 (which I am only 78 right now) compared to how it was as you leveled, but that is exactly what they have done in these end zones. We are not even talking about dungeons or whatnot, just the open world.

That’s a problem with the game design.

But he is right, with a geared and properly specced 80 you should be able to fully explore all 80 zones solo without any problems, regardless of class.

I know, I have a thief

I also have an engineer, and if you want to do damage reroll something else because you are out of luck with that profession.

So if you turn off the profanity filter… and see profanity… knowing that you might be offended by the profanity… which you just purposefully exposed yourself to… shouldn’t you take some personal responsibility for that? o.O

Anyone who turns the filter off probably doesn’t care. The filter is there for those that don’t want to see it don’t have to. It’s presence does not mean you get the green light from Anet to say whatever you want.

No but its presence should deter fine upstanding gentlemen and ladies from sweating and trying to find the report button everytime someone drops the F bomb.

If someone is using racial slurs or actively harassing someone, sure. But if you get worked up over someone using an occasional expletive when you have the filter at your disposal you really need to harden up.

Given that he brings up the prisoners dilemma (a questionable structure outside of a paranoid baseline) i suspect the whole thing is rigged based on “neoclassical” economic thinking. Do ANet have an economist on staff to manage and structure the in-game economy?

Yes, John Smith is the Anet “resident economist”: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/john-smith-on-the-guild-wars-2-virtual-economy/

Am i the only one that thinks they are just trolling us with a generic name when in reality they don’t have an economist on staff?

Has Server Population Increased?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nofo.8469

nofo.8469

Slightly yes by 3% or so due to the game of the year awards and christmas. They did 15 days ago increase the server capacity that makes it seem like it as well.

But the truth is they have lost 65% of the population since the launch.
The locusts left in Sept.
WvW is stale in unless in T1 never a Q
Spvp and Tpvp are on total life support.
Then came Ascend gear – That lost 30% of the pop right there.
Now there is the loot downgrades the constant changing of the goal posts.
And frankly some of the worst management of a game from a design studio I have seen with the exception of TOR it is on par with Bioware right now.

Revenue is being squeezed out of every non dungeon player. For some reason Anet went against what they thought and put the best gear and loot in one place and made it available at one place and gated the content. They then went out and killed open world loot to force people to buy gems to keep up with the dungeon runners.

What you see now is up upswing for holidays about 10% pop increase (returning players not the 3% new accounts) for a few days then people exodus again as they see Anet hasnt fixed the issues they left about.
It was the same with Halloween.
The game is in trouble yes. No not critically yet but I do predict that with the epic new content in FEB that there will be a F2P announcement to bring in new accounts and increase the revenue stream as they have bled the non dungeon runners dry.

Open worlds are empty and barren and DE’s are solo or arent done. Really sad.
WvW – borderlands are always outmanned/breakout event constantly ready. Bad
– EB still manageable and fun at times but the only place to fight. Sad
Spvp -4 hours a day can you get a hot join match
Tpvp – dead – no one does them any more.
Dungeons – seems ok somewhat. Use the lfg site and map chat. Still non fractal is next to impossible to do.

Yes they come back from this but it will take a significant effort and they must listen to the community instead of trying to silence them. Most people here want the best game possible but when the devs constantly attack you as a player you wonder why bother.

Numbers / graphs to support this?

I would love to see ArenaNet release these stats actually, particularly the effect on the playerbase the lost shores patch had.

This game is lacking one thing for me, FFA

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nofo.8469

The only FFA games I have played are SB and DAoC (Mordred.) Granted on Mordred there was a ton of griefing and I can see why people didn’t like it. I’ll get to why that is in a moment.

But let’s talk about shadowbane for a minute, the community was basically 80% sociopaths yet in about 4 years of playing it I didn’t see unprovoked griefing once. As in not once did I see people camping noobs, in fact this is the only game I saw people actively defending noobs, there was this one nation which basically recruited all noobs and showed them the ropes and if anyone tried to take their city every vet e-thug nation on the server would come to defend them simply for what they did to the community.

The reason for this I feel is that Shadowbane was designed for FFA gameplay, griefing noobs was wasting your time and giving your guild/nation a bad reputation which meant a lot in that kind of game. The reason for this was if the server hated you, you would get completely wiped off the server and would have little to no chance of getting a foothold anywhere. Harsh? Yes but it made it the most personally-accountable community I had ever seen.

Whereas DAoC wasn’t designed for FFA gameplay at all because the game didn’t have much depth from a FFA perspective, the only reputation didn’t mean much because you didn’t have much to lose. The main benefit FFA MMO’s have is accountability, and games like DAoC didn’t capitalise on this much at all.

To all the people saying FFA games are horrible and bring out the worst in people, I pity you.

To all the people saying this game would be a good FFA game, no, it would not. It is not designed for it and the amount of work it would take to turn it into a good FFA game would be absurd.

If you want your FFA fix your only real hope is CCP as they seem to be the only ones that are willing or know how to design an MMO with FFA in mind.

Plenty of end game!

Dungeons – collect all dungeon sets, get Dungeon Master achievement
Fractals – see how high you can go, get Ascended gear
Level all crafting disciplines, you can learn all 8 on one character
Mini pets – collect them all
Achievements
Titles
Build a legendary weapon
Jumping Puzzles
WvW – join your server’s Teamspeak, help your server win!
sPvP & tPvP
Exploring, finding/triggering obscure events, open all mini-dungeons
Find and collect all the toys and shapeshifter items in game
Organize or join a raid to take the Temple of Lyssa in Malchor’s Leap
Get a couple friends and try to control the Jump puzzle in Eternal Battlegrounds (I’ve spent many a fine evening doing that, fun skirmishes & mesmer portal play)

I hit 80 months ago, haven’t run out of stuff to do yet

Most of the stuff you said there, i can’t consider it end-game, i consider it completing 100% a game, thats something you do on your playstation game for the max level difficulty or something, not in a mmorpg, i can’t consider getting all achivements, titles or collecting whatever is there to be collected endgame.

Collecting all pets or getting all crafting disciplines to 8, i consider it as grinding, and if i am playing a game to grind, i prefer to grind it for gear, not for mini pets collection.

Nothing about farming gold to get max level discpline is fun, you do it to get the proffesions you want and think are needed and thats it.

See, just cause World of Pandagrindcraft was your first MMO does NOT mean it’s the way MMOs have to be. They were different before and there have been different ones ever since. You don’t like it? Leave. No need for more wowbabby blabber anywhere outside Pandumpia.

Dude you talk about WoW like she cheated on you with your best friend or something.

Guildwars2 isn’t much different and will likely do the same to you, sorry to burst your bubble.

Engineer and post-patch - A retrospect.

This coming from a stubborn tourney engineer.

Engineer is only ok in SPvP because of the amount of knockbacks he has, nothing else.

Knockbacks are borderline useless in PvE, as such saying engineers are sub-par in PvE would be the understatement of the year. Those healing numbers you listed are not big, just saying. If healing power scaled better engineers would be fine healers, but as it stands at the moment stacking healing power is a terrible idea for any class, engineer included. Actually on tourney condition thieves its ok, but nothing else.

Engineer as a class is flawed, effective range is close to melee range yet our class strength is being able to knock targets away from us?

Troll class design right there. Still fun to play though.
