Yeah but barely anyone plays engineer.
Rather low priority, maybe in a few patches.
PvE progression content and engineer nerfs in a single patch?
lol GG.
Think its time to put down this game.
the worst thing about it is the raider-guild mentality.
everything becomes a case of “what gear do you have?” before anyone would talk to you. you’re considered a good/bad player based on your gearscore. you end up not being able to see half the game’s content without investing your soul into a group of easily irritated people who take the concept of “game” too seriously. you find yourself not bothering with the little things in the world as you end up pursuing only those things which guarantee you loot formatted for your class. ragequitting gets more common. no one likes anyone else because everyone’s too determined to get their loot NOW so they can get into the next raid with “not noobs”.
ugh. the whole idea makes me cringe. i was so glad when gw2 seemed to be saying it would pretty much be the antithesis of this. i thought: at last. a game where gamers looking for challenges and fun can gather. a holy grail, i guess.
while i don’t think this power creeping is the end of the game, it’s pretty much telling me this will be another mmo in which my wife and i’ll be locked out of endgame. again.
Which, would be an MASSIVE exaggeration on your part.
Number 1 – Asc really aren’t that much different than Exotic gears.Their stat APPEARS to be better, but you would still end up getting more stat bonus with matching runes on your exotic then ASC because these armors only have infusioin slot.
The agony debuff is designed so people only experience it after repeating the new dungeon.
Everything about this entire fiasco has been over exaggerated on the GW1 purist’s part it would seem like the end of day of GW2 if you have only been looking at the forum and not playing the actual game.
Please do some research before you post in the future, bolded part is entirely false.
I didn’t play gw1, I came to this game as it was marketed as a PvP game.
What do I get? Watered down DAoC RvR and a new tier of loot 3 months in?
kitten that kitten.
I don’t think I’m going to like the answers to those questions.
Yes forcing people to socialise in an MMO is so archaic.
How is improving on WvW a hard concept.
It has a larger following than the WoW people who want a second job and arenaNet is succesfully going to cull a good chunk of their WvW population with this patch.
This decision makes 0 sense whatsoever.
And @ OP, you can change server readily, check back every few hours.
I know for a fact that over 250 people transferred from darkhaven to blackgate within the last 3 days.
Guess what for? It’s not dungeons I’ll tell you that much.
With so many people upset about the same thing it becomes difficult to keep the forum in order. I wonder though, if they had not merged all the threads, what % of threads would be people unhappy with the idea of Ascended gear. Quite a lot I imagine
Just goes to show listening to people posting on forums is a terrible way to get “feedback” on your game. The amount of “feedback” they are getting now shows what a terrible idea this was, yet for the past 8 weeks there were soooo many threads asking for exactly this type of thing.
Before Ascended gear: Nothing wrong with game, everyone quite happy and playing it. Only a few idiot WoW kiddies moaning about “progression” when they finished the game by playing it 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for 2 months. The community largely ignores them, Arenanet… Listens to them??
After Ascended gear: NO. WE DO NOT WANT THIS. Everyone who never normally posts on the forum comes along and rages. Hopefully, Arenanet… Listens to us??
Why every MMO developer insists on killing their child to appease the lord of themepark MMO’s is beyond me.
What the kitten?
People were complaining, that there was no real endgame, and nothing to go for after hitting 80 and exotics. No superb items to grind for. Now it’s a problem, that you dont get max gear automatically? I ask again.
What the kitten?
Some people were, a minority.
Most of these people went back to WoW thankfully.
A lot of the playerbase realised that hold on a second, this was marketed as a PvP game, maybe, just maybe PvP is the end game?
mind=blown.
DAoC was also filled with zergs.
Yeah, it had other options though.
This game doesn’t.
Why can’t MMO’s just improve upon the PvP MMO’s of 10 years ago.
WvW only boring because its an unpolished zerg fest atm.
If ArenaNet spent less time adding progression PvE content and more time polishing their current content this game would be in great shape right now.
Uh oh…you used facts. Prepare to be lambasted over the furnace of irrationality.
Another fact is these Mathmagics are based on the pic of one pink ring, we don´t even know if it´s attributes are actually finalized.
Statistics, do you speak it Muthakitten?
You are a shining example of a furnace of irrationality.
You think they going to make this ring have better stats than exo and all of the others the same as exo?
You think they would have released this blog if they didn’t intend on implementing it?
Also another observation in the whole Ascended gear: It doesn’t matter how much an increase it is. Hyper competitive PvP player like myself will grind for it anyway since it can be use in WvW.
then you’ll get laughed at because with the information we have available (now), ascended armor (when its available) can’t be slotted with runes nor can ascended weapons be slotted with sigils. we don’t know what the infusions will do, but, likely, it’ll simply add a resistance to the new agony mechanic, thus, making ascended gear obsolete for anywhere, but, the new dungeon with the information we have available currently.
note: this is going off what information we currently have. even then, you don’t need agony resistance to do the fractal, only to continue doing the dungeon the further down you go. plus, we don’t even know how its applied. it could be dodge-able/reflectable, etc..
I don’t know what information you have but you either can’t do simple math or haven’t seen the ring comparison screenshot.
Just a couple of observations:
1) Your maths used Full geared (ie armour, weapon, accessories) but at the moment Ascended gears only come in backpack and accessories. So the 8% is most likely right.2) I don’t know if there is any DR in combat so how the 26% increase you quoted may not necessary translated into 26% increase in combat performance.
Also another observation in the whole Ascended gear: It doesn’t matter how much an increase it is. Hyper competitive PvP player like myself will grind for it anyway since it can be use in WvW.
They stated in the blog they intended on adding more ascended items.
As a competitive WvW player I will too, but I would rather not have to.
If they don’t start fleshing out WvW soon or if I have to do too much dungeon crawling to WvW competitively then I am out, along with many others.
I have 5 sets of exotic gear so I can match how I want to play with my builds. I love that it just has different stats and none are really more powerful then the other allowing me to play how I want to play. Adding gear progression is a horrible idea because it was marketed to us as something that would not happen and not to mention its a small step into other games like wow with every expansion needing new armor, weapons and everything else to do a new dungeon. GW1 did not have a gear progress and that is what I loved about it. In gw1 I spent time getting skills and such compared to armor that is how i looked at it.
I have spent my time getting my self armor and other things besides some legendary weapon that does not fit my necro in anyway shape or form.
Yeah I spent around 30g on item sets for every different spec my char could have, because I enjoyed playing them in different situations.
Come this patch they are going to get replaced.
If I was aware this game would be like WoW or Diablo 3 with gear being replaced every few months then I would not have spent that 30g, nor would I have purchased this game.
Gotta love companies that say whatever they can to get sales these days; even blatant lies.
“I’d like to respond to concerns players have raised about ascended items. Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.
Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill."
You heard it here first folks.
It’s not a gear treadmill!
It’s progression!
Oh, but you don’t have to be 26% more powerful!
lol @ how many people took this post literally.
Sarcasm folks.
On topic though, yes progression style PvE content does not belong in guild wars keep that kitten in PvE MMO’s please.
(edited by nofo.8469)
Not close to e-sport material atm.
MMO’s don’t really make good e-sports anyway.
I hope Engineer get’s alot of changes in functionality i.e. Flamethrower not being the ‘’big damage’’ weapon they wanted it to be. Rifle not quite a ’’shotgun’’ nor a ‘’long distance wep’’.
I just want them to re-evaluate the Engi and then my friends im soooo going to transmute my Dungeon set from my Thief to my low level Engineer.
(I’m sick of nerfbat and pigeonholed BS, BP)
Thank you for speaking my mind. I thought I was the only one who noticed.
The dps for cond damage has become completely useless and if i wanted to play a rifle slinger i would have rolled a warrior.
FT is horrible. Burning shouldn’t be the only damage dealer for condition damage players. It’s like they hate the scout classes or something i dunno. This isn’t the only class they are having issues with. Speccing and gearing cond damage in the other two leather wearers doesn’t work either. You’re dead before you can do anything significant. (in PVE i mean)
Not sure about rangers but I know thief DB spam spec works well in PvE and PvP.
On topic though I doubt we’ll see sweeping changes to class but we can hope for some serious love to a few of our kits (looking at toolkit here)
Expecting a lot of bugfixes though.
kitten bro thats some pretty extreme analysis.
Odd. That part of your post isn’t showing in your actual post, but it is in the quote box. But yea that might’ve been a tad overkill XD
I think everyone knows that hipfiring isn’t realistic by now, shouldn’t hold much weight in a fantasy MMO still.
Disagree. Realism arguments shouldn’t hold weight regarding fantasy aspects of the game, or when said realism would take away from the gameplay. repeats the spiel in the second paragraph of my third post here[/i]
There are fantasy aspects of the rifles in game; as another poster pointed out, propelling yourself across the room or firing a net are not exactly realistic… but for the most part, tyrian rifles are so similar to RL ones, that requesting they be handled in a similar fashion as RL rifles seems reasonable to me (emphasis on ‘to me’ as that statement is obviously extremely subjective).
So, yes, GW2 is a fantasy game as a whole, but we’re not talking about the game as a whole, we’re talking about a very specific aspect of the game (firing a rifle), and that aspect does not fall into the category of ‘fantasy’. Rather, it is a simulation (of firing a rifle IRL), but currently is is a simulation of what not to do, and that is unacceptable for really any profession, but especially for the engineer.
But saying that, anything that detracts from immersion and looks stupid to a lot of people should be considered as a possible flaw.
On that note, please delete the quaggan!! (jk, of course :P)
In all seriousness though, you are correct; I’d be surprised is this change isn’t made eventually just out of popular demand (assuming we’re not a vocal minority; I have no idea where the community as a whole stands on the matter – I can only speak for myself).
Hard to say whether or not we are a minority, my guess is the majority of people don’t really care either way.
Part of my post was trying to get a feel for the amount of people that are vehemently against changing rifle animation in any way.
Yeah I guess you are right about fantasy needing some basis in reality, so the argument is worth something.
Mostly preference, and I know from reading these forums for awhile that there is a mixture of people who hate the hip shot animation, a lot who don’t care, and a few that seem to love it.
Ah, the participation trophy generation.
People want something to gain and lose from WvW.
If anything you are arguing in favor of the trophy generation where “everyone is a winner.”
lol zerging shouldn’t be stopped, casuals need to play too.
Saying that though, GvG needs to become something of importance in this game as does some form of ranking for people and guilds.
Needs more competition outside of which commander can lead the zerg the best. Don’t take that as mocking as I have mad respect for the ammount of patience it would take to achieve this.
I can’t say too much just yet, but we’re doing some work related to rewards and character progression in WvW even now. It will be a little while before we’re ready to talk about more details though. Rewards, progression, and incentives for play are hot topics around the office. We all care about this stuff and once we have some more details hammered out we’ll let you all know what we’re up to.
This post makes me extremely happy.
Gated gear in a PvP game.
Joy, can’t wait.
WoW with no monthly fee? Yes! I can’t wait!
Haltus, I can see your point (I’m not against or for this idea), but you know you can look at it in the different way too. For example, engineers are renowned for their intellect and ingenuity and therefore can use a special type of ammo (which they’ve invented) which does not kick like all others and therefore can shoot from hip and faster, while warriors have to use regular ammo which kicks like horse.
I’m not saying that it meant to be that way, but you can always find a reason why it is one way and not other or why it should be the other way and not the current one. It’s just matter of opinion.
Certainly not impossible, in that Tryia physics might not be reflective of RL physics; but like the blunderbuss argument, I’d say that’s a pretty huge stretch.
What we do know about the engineer’s rifle ammo:
1) They use cartridge ammunition; bullet, powder, and primer are all contained by a casing, making the 4 components one single unit. This is opposed to having to pour the powder into the gun; then inserting the projectile; then igniting the powder with a flint or something.
2) When fired, bullets move at speeds comparable to those fired from RL firearms. (very, very fast).
How do we know this?
1) If you fire a rifle while standing on a hard surface such as stone or metal, you will hear the casing hit the ground immediately after firing.
2) When fired, the rifle makes the iconic ‘bang’ that RL guns do. This sound occurs because of the bullet traveling faster than the speed of sound.
Why is this important?
1) The design and mechanics of Tyrian firearms are modeled after RL firearms to an extent that we can reasonably assume that the only difference are polygons.
2) If the bullet is propelled out of one end of the gun with a great amount of force; the gun itself will be propelled in the opposite direction with equal force. Since the mass of a firearm is much greater than the mass of the bullet it fires; and because the surface area of the butt of the firearm which contacts the shooter is much greater than the surface area of the bullet which contacts the target; the gun moving one direction has much less potential to cause damage to things like flesh and bone than does the bullet traveling in the other direction – BUT the force of the gun moving, recoil, is still enough to cause discomfort or minor damage even when used correctly (refer to the ‘bruised shoulder’ incident mentioned in a previous post); so, when used incorrectly, such as firing from the hip, the only things there to absorb the force of the recoil are the hand gripping the forestock of the firearm (not a noteworthy amount of force absorption) and the trigger finger of the other hand, when the trigger guard snaps back against it. The most likely results of that are that are the hand holding the forestock moving back a bit, or not moving at all as the forestock slips through it; and the trigger finger and nearby body parts such as the hand and wrist being broken/dislocated/at the very least, struck hard enough to cause considerable discomfort (compare to hitting your thumb with a hammer).
Therefore, again barring the possibility that Tyrian physics are not reflective of our own (things like the speed of sound, for example, may be different in Tyria than it is IRL… however, this is never established in lore, so I see no reason to take such possibility into account), we can infer that the ammo used by engineers not different to a noteworthy degree than the ammo we use IRL; that things like recoil are just as much present in Tyria as they are IRL; and that firing such a weapon from the hip would be just as bad an idea in Tyria as it is IRL, hence our request for the animation/ability name to be changed to the more logical shoulder-fire.
And all that isn’t taking into account the loss of accuracy when firing from the hip vs using the sights/scope, which is reason enough not to fire from the hip.
…and holy kitten I think I just set a new personal record for over-analyzing a videogame
I think everyone knows that hipfiring isn’t realistic by now, shouldn’t hold much weight in a fantasy MMO still.
But saying that, anything that detracts from immersion and looks stupid to a lot of people should be considered as a possible flaw.
Out of all the pro hipfire people, would you guys actually mind if the engineer fired the rifle/shotgun/blunderbuss whatever in a less stylised manner?
Grenades or pistols are generally the best way.
If you are good at aiming grenades they do more burst then any other weapon engi has access to and as such are the best at reaching the required damage threshold for loot.
If I said, “baby I love you and want to be with you”
And her response was “Yeah k bro, how about you be my slave for another few years then maybe.” Then I would be like ok kitten this kitten.
Um, she’s his queen. He’s well and truly aware of that. He respects her rank and her importance to Kryta, rather than just viewing her as a hot chick he’s infatuated with. Whatever their romantic relationship (whether mutual or one-sided – and if she really wanted to acknowledge their romance, she would marry him surely, unless she’s holding out for a politically advantageous match) – anyway, whatever their romantic relationship, he works for her.
Why is he a ‘beta male’ because he doesn’t consider the fact that she’s a woman he likes to overrule the fact that she’s Queen of Kryta? If a king’s mistress stopped obeying his commands or started treating him informally in front of the court, would you not raise eyebrows? Rank before gender. It’s not that hard. Logan’s infatuated with Jennah and will bend over backwards for her, but more to the point, she out-ranks him.
I won’t go out of my way to defend Destiny’s Edge or the writing thereof, but they are meant to be thoroughly flawed characters. They are meant to be heroes rendered completely ineffective by their own conflicts (so yes, teenage drama). That’s where we come in, all fresh-faced and rational.
If a guy bends over backwards for a female and she shows nothing in return and he continues to do so then he is a chump.
They don’t have a romantic relationship, in basically every scene he’s like “omg jenna I will do anything for you” and her response is “Ok, good puppy. Here’s a pat on the head now go do some errand for me.”
This is not the personality type of a leader, warrior or great man by any standard, this is the personality type of a sniveling worm.
He is a beta by every definition.
In my opinion all five of the Destinys edge crew are like members of a crappy teenage reality tv drama.
Not one of them has any common sense or maturity during the (badly written) story to make having them along anything other than obnoxious. I’m outright happy when they die during those runs, just upset I can’t kill ’em myself.
I swear if I could’ve joined Zhaitan I would’ve. Between they whiney kittens in DE and Trahearnes dull character I would’ve enjoyed working against Tyria quite nicely. Oh well..
ikr.
I would love to pledge myself to zhaitan so I can kill these little mewing kittens myself.
I have a girlfriend I love.
If I said, “baby I love you and want to be with you”
And her response was “Yeah k bro, how about you be my slave for another few years then maybe.” Then I would be like ok kitten this kitten.
When does the game state he is her BF?
He barely has a place in the story after Treehern shows up.
He isn’t badly written.
He is an extremely well written chump.
Well I guess you can put it that way. I thought he was poorly written because real heroic men don’t act like that.
He’s a beta male through and through, yet his role is like the best warrior and leader humanity has to offer?
This is what confuses me.
I have a girlfriend I love.
If I said, “baby I love you and want to be with you”
And her response was “Yeah k bro, how about you be my slave for another few years then maybe.” Then I would be like ok kitten this kitten.
When does the game state he is her BF?

He is an extremely well written chump.
His sword saladbowel of whatever it was called was pretty cool.
giving necro guardian abilities what a boss sword
Seriously this guy is the best the human race has to offer?
How long has he been friendzoned by Jenna?
How many times has he kittened out on this homies for this chick that has lead him on for what, his entire kittening life?
He comes across as having a really weak personality frame.
Yet he is the leader of the pact.
It just seems wrong on many levels.
Didn’t the Guild wars team say that they were making the game for both hardcore and casual players?
If so, then why are the casuals complaining so much when the hardcore players FINALLY get some meaningful content? In case you haven’t noticed, every single design decision in this game so far has been centered around making sure the casual players feel comfortable and pampered.
This game was designed for PvPers and vanity hunters.
They can create hardcore PvP or vanity content all they want.
Not to induce flame, only to talk about my outlook on the new gear.
I feel as though too many of us feel we know the statistics on GW2’s player base. (myself included, it’s weird how I feel like I can guess numbers and figures on the playerbase :P) I’ve seen way to many people calling out Anet on pandering to the “minority” or “1%” or what have you. The fact is, Anet knows WAY more about how people are spending their time in GW2.
Let’s not forget that their teams have built this entire game, and give credit where credit is due. These are gamers just like us who are trying to make the game as amazing as possible. They wouldn’t go “oh, there is 20% of our player base getting their end-gear and then not logging on as much, let’s cater to them”. They are doing what they can provide the MAJORITY of players with solid content to enjoy. They would never actively or obviously solicit to the minority and ignore the majority of players.
Now to the gear: it appears to only be jewelry in this latest patch, but the jewelry indicated shows a 4% increase. (I will say I see full ascended gear in the future, but rolling it out slowly like this seems like a nice way to ease us into the new system, and give us time to get use to it.) There is a bump in stats, no doubt, but let’s not be doomsayers. This does not mean we will have ascended 2 gear, or ascended 3 gear. All they have said is one more tier is being added. The best part I see, is that the most significant boost it provides is in the form of infusions or buffs. Doing it this way means that the most significant addition to gear is scenario based, not general world improvement. Could they have kept exotic level and just added infusion? Yes I’m sure they could. And I’m even more sure that’s exactly one of things they talked about in their meetings about adding something new to the gear in this game. Your voices in game and on the forums are not only heard, but advocated inside Anet offices. Why am I confident of that? Because they have proven with the game they created that they are gamers too, and want what’s best for our community!
And in my opinion, this idea is ingenious. Gear that is there for the “hardcore” players to grind for in the fractals dungeon, but not required. (Some worry this gear will be required in the future. Let’s keep in mind that the future is uncertain, and to the me the worse case scenerio is “lfg fractals, must be lvl 80 with asc/agony”.) This gear doesn’t seem to be necessary by any means for the other dungeons. I’ve run plenty of explorable dungeons in rare/exotic gear and done quite well with good clearing time. I don’t see 4% being the type of increase that the community will require of others to perform well in a dungeon. And more importantly, WE ARE THE COMMUNITY, and we decide whether we will end up shutting out lower geared players. (BTW, this is already possible, since there is already tier’s of gear, and some players demand lvl 80’s in exotic gear for dungeons already on occasion)
TL:DR
These changes are happening. Let’s not worry ourselves, and make the best out of this situation. Many people, such as myself, will enjoy this new gear. Of course, others will loath it. But let’s be a better community than MMO’s have seen in the past, and trust that Anet is doing what they think is best, and let’s choose to have a positive perception on this situation, rather than negative. No more doomsayers!
If it wasn’t required to be competitive in WvW I wouldn’t are what dungeon crawlers do.
But judging from the screenshot in the blog + some basic math yes it will be required outside of PvE. Which this game was marketed as a PvP game and ArenaNet said they would never pull something like this.
If this gear was only mandatory to be competitive in dungeons, I wouldn’t care, in fact I would be happy for you guys.
But when you guys start kittening with us PvP guys then no, we get frustrated.
people dont read lol, the gear will only be needed “in the new dungeon”
Did you even see the screenshot in the blog and do some basic math?
If you want to be competitive anywhere in this game you will be using ascended gear.
This change is implementing a gear grind for PvPers, which notoriously hate this kind of kitten.
Also this game was marketed as a PvP game, why the hell would any sane developer think putting a gear treadmill into a PvP game is a good idea.
C
and own choice – expand on WvW
Player opinions? What? Who needs that kitten?
WoW is successful lets mimic them get a piece of the pie.
I highly doubt any designer actually in touch with gaming made the asinine decision to implement something like this.
Straight up corporate greed.
Not even close, there were plenty of casuals in DAoC. Did they form gank groups? Not often, they zerged a lot.
Casuals should be able to play this game and have fun, but punishing people for doing anything other than rolling around as a giant zerg is rather absurd.
You’ve got me a bit wrong.
Two points – at the moment i can go solo/duo and do something useful and meet other soloers/duoers. With gank groups out there it will be as smart as soloing in macha.
Second – I’ve run a good share of amg pbaoe groups power leveling animists and twf-animist groups and i’d say that fighting them with casual zerg is rather boring and pointless. Sure things its extremely fun for 8 guys, but rather annoying for everyone else..
Yeah its true, I do this a lot too and its somewhat fun, spend more time running from zerg than anything but its all good. The idea with gank groups is you either form one yourself and have some epic fights or if you aren’t that type of player, just zerg it up.
Onto the animists haha, yeah they were fun and kinda brutal. This game doesn’t facilitate wiping zergs with 5-8 people though sadly. I know its because of accessibility and I’m not silly enough to think it would ever be implemented, and as such its not something to be concerned about.
Roaming gank groups will never destroy the zerg in this game, even if they removed the aoe cap I don’t see it happening often.
Do not get me wrong, I loved group action back in DAOC, but encouraging such gameplay essentially closes WWW for the casuals. The part that I love about gw2 – you do not have to have 4 other people with you to do something useful in www.
Not even close, there were plenty of casuals in DAoC. Did they form gank groups? Not often, they zerged a lot.
Casuals should be able to play this game and have fun, but punishing people for doing anything other than rolling around as a giant zerg is rather absurd.
Realm points are the answer, even if no abilities are implemented. Leaderboards for guilds and individuals along with titles would be enough to encourage people to seek lots of these points.
They could just increase item badge cost, give badges 100% drop rate, and the number depends on how much dmg your group did to target compared to others.
That’s a bandaid fix though, this game needs more.
I would also like to see more buffs affecting group and not just everyone around you. Encourages group play opposed to zerg play.
Also remove AoE cap, makes zerg stacking stupidly effective.
(edited by nofo.8469)
Seriously guys, if this wasn’t a new tier of gear that was set to replace exotics in everyway which is the impression most people seem to have.
Then arenanet would have said something by now, they would not let this misconception fester.
They did, in this news post https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
It’s not going to completely replace exotics, and the way it looks to me is that the only noticable effect will be when running that new dungeon in the harder modes. For all other aspects of the game it has just +2 of every stat without the posibility to choose the stats yourself because you can’t mod them except for the infusion thingies that only are effective in the dungeon.
If anything that post indicates they will replace exotics.
Assuming infusions are only useful in dungeons which it doesn’t state anywhere that is the case, but lets assume that for a minute and be optimistic.
Then in the example of that thread there is still a:
+5 power
+5 precision
+3% MF
Now let’s say MF is another stat, that translates to what, in an explorers set about 40 pts in another stat? Reason I’m using this example is that post blatantly states they intend on adding other ascended sets and I am sure they wont all be MF sets.
Then this is well over 300 stat points difference.
Pretty mandatory if you ask me, even if its all MF sets for whatever reason the stats will still be pretty much mandatory for competitive players.
This post indicates that ascended gear will replace exotics 100% for top end gear. Unless they listen to the community and withdraw their stupid notion this game should become a gear treadmill.
Seriously guys, if this wasn’t a new tier of gear that was set to replace exotics in everyway which is the impression most people seem to have.
Then arenanet would have said something by now, they would not let this misconception fester.
Unless they listen to the outrage this game will become WoW with some watered down RvR.
lol not about how real it looks.
It’s about how stupid it looks to some. Hip firing bothers a lot of people.
Wouldn’t be hard to edit animations. Would literally be a 5 minute change.
I don’t use rifles so I’m not fussed at the moment, but if there ever came a time I would want to use rifles it would certainly annoy me no end seeing my character shoot it like a kitten
but your feedback means so much.
clearly turning this game into a gear treadmill was a response to all this feedback they have been getting on how it would be an awesome idea.
Good post.
Yes you are absolutely right.
Regardless though, implementing any form of lengthy gear treadmill into a PvP game is a stupid idea from a design standpoint.
Basically arenaNet is telling the players that they are shifting the focus of the game away from WvW and SPvP and into PvE progression style dungeons.
Which is precisely why people bought this game, to get away from that kitten.
Implementing this is beyond asinine.
The simple fact people are upset tells you that this is a big deal and trying to belittle that tells me the kind of people some are. Frankly when the state of the game is at stake let people have their say right or wrong let them be heard. That is what this is about.
Yes but people haven’t even tried it. The simple fact is no one besides Anet knows how it’s going to work exactly, at this point. People only have very inaccurate assumption to base their complaints on right now.
You are right, no other game has introduced a new tier of gear with greater stats before.
No other successful PvP game has done this through a gear treadmill.
This is a PvP game, kitten off go to WoW stop kittening with every MMO that has been released in the last 8 years you carebear kittens.
Gone are the days when developers design their games for their consumers. WoW, Diablo, farmville and the like proved you can entertain through addiction now everyone wants a piece of the pie.
Corporate greed at its best.
Pity their shortsighted approach to the future of this game will be the death of it.
This should have just been brought into the game like infusion was in the first game with being able to add the infusion to your currently existing exotics without raising the stat level. As it sets they are just going to ruin there game as the only game to thrive on the treadmill has been WoW. Every other game has crashed and burned when these changes have started.
Very bland and blanket based statements based upon what proof?
Just about every other game that has crashed and burned is still running, with minimal population and this, could just as well been planned in thier forcast for the games life span.
The question people like yourself needs to ask is, how many people are gaming companies willing to cater too before they pull the plug on the servers? This we will never know, but if a game is still floating and releasing content, clearly, they are not crashing and burning.
On top of this, no, that game you mention which we will not speak of is not the only game to thrive on a gear grind treadmill, many are still thriving on it and are still releasing content.
The failure is, people like yourself who only choose to compaire everything to that mmorpg. That is the only problem.
Are you seriously trying to say they planned for this game to crash and burn with minimal population?
Many are not “still thriving on it” please list one. From what I have seen every MMO that has tried to compete with WoW is doing anything and everything in their power to stay afloat and keep the few remaining players they have.
Guild Wars 2 already has the PvP playerbase and they have no competitors aside from EVE and darkfall.
They are throwing this away to appease the WoW players who love to gear treadmill.
Yes, the people who bought this game and believed ArenaNet when they said this would be a PvP + vanity hunting game are getting extremely frustrated right now.
Anyways I’m seeing a lot of tears so I’m heading out, stop complaining about treadmills it will do NO good, they are coming deal with it, and maybe send a thank you to anet for ensuring the longevity of your game.
“Here’s a bunch of facts I made up. Okay, bye guys!”
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Everything I have stated is factual, Anet is not a democracy it’s a business, if they are making a descision this game impacting best believe it’s to make money, they clearly realize this will make people angry but overall it’s going to get them more customers, google anything I’ve said if you need facts.
The sooner you realize this the sooner you will stop making these threads.
Nothing you said is factual.
All this talk about treadmill being the only way to make MMO’s sounds like gen Y kittenry to me.
