why kits are still statless?

I absolutely agree. People always tell me “be patient, it’s an MMO, be patient they are busy”.

Is till plan to be patient. Being a programmer by trade and having directly worked in this industry I know for a fact how much of a pain in the kitten even a seemingly minor change can be. With that said I think that they’re failing to do proper communication on the matter and its that lack of communication and acknowledgement which is making people unhappy and distraught.

Agreed, but their priorities are a bit skewed at the moment, and their methods of balancing is questionable at least.

When its blatantly obvious that some classes get far more attention for polish than others, and those classes are the ones that are already rather polished it begs the question how competent the development team actually is.

what about your condition damage? Critical? Armor? etc? To balance the bonuses they would have to nerf all kits to balance the stats given by your weapons. Are you seriously arguing that you should get bonuses from weapons you are no longer holding?

Right, because kits are so OP in SPvP.

Kits aren’t useless, they are just sub-par to what they should be. With the sole exception being grenades.

why kits are still statless?

in Engineer

nofo.8469

How hard can it be to store in a variable the stats of your main weapon, its level and its rarity. Then apply that to kits whenever you equip them?

It would not be difficult to implement in any programming language. Unless this game was written in a scripting language or something (even then, most of those would allow this) this shouldn’t have made it out of beta in its current state.

God Arenanet I know you have quality programmers this is a 1 hr fix max.

Wait…so…OP goes from praising the dark side of the new content, asking for a “gear check or Gear Score” mechanic, to this? I believe there is meme about a movie called “Tropic Thunder” for this situation…

Hey man I can’t wait to fully experience the new progression content.

I just don’t want to do it with a broken class.

Still not seeing any “progression”. I just see another tier that had better be the last. Expanding your character and their skills is the progression we want. We don’t want this gear treadmill. Too many MMO’s are already like that, and GW2 is supposed to be different.

My warrior friend seems to find warrior doing much better than Necro, Ele, or Ranger. Try one of those 3 classes! I am sure you will do just fine with your Warrior.

Just for emphasis, no gear treadmills, no gear check, and someone please help the devs trying to balance this game. -_-

Another tier = more stats = more power = progression.

Ranger so easy just stick pet on target and auto attack. Warrior needs to time and combo skills to do anything worthwhile.

Nah, Fix Warriors like they do the Mesmer.

Nerf the damage, nerf the CDs, nerf the delay between attacks on your good skills, fix anything that benefits the class, “fix” one broken item but the fix doesn’t work, fix the tooltips that show better results then actual by changing the tooltips, introduce further restrictions on skills so that they fail more often with no results, and then call it a patch.

Well kitten looks like I won’t be rerolling mesmer, sucks to be you guys.

But I’ll reroll something else unless ANet fixes this broken class.

Ok, Yeah warriors do crazy damage, but that is literally all we do after the latest gamebreaking nerfs.

With the latest healing cap nerf it affects us the most as the only non DPS build we have was a healing build and now its garbage in WvW and Orr.

On top of that, in PvP all of our attacks are choreographed like some form of kung fu movie so anyone with half a brain can easily dodge or counter them.

We still have broken stuff like rifle being useless in SPvP and bolas not working on Z axis.

ArenaNet stop with these tiny buffs and fix us please. Like you fixed thief by making their sword spec awesome, elementalist summoned weapons OP and engineer magnet pull ridiculous.

and after that we can add the pandas!

it’s brilliant.

I actually would like some more animalistic races that are cute. I mean we have charr and asura which kind of resemble dogs and monkeys respectively, but what about cute cat people and such?

Charr look more like dogs than cats??? Have you even LOOKED at the female Charrs? They’re definitely the ‘cat people’ of Guild Wars. They’re just not scrawny like Khajiits.

That being said, I’d love more animalistic races too…well, any type of additional race would please me so long as it wasn’t too similar to any existing race (or a Panda). GW2 has all other fantasy MMORPGs beat in the race department as far as I’m concerned. Sure, some people think Slyvari and Asura are the respective equivalent of Elves and Gnomes because of their cultures, but at least Anet DID make an effort to do something different.

Personally, I’d love to see Centaurs be added to the playable races. Although if they allowed customization of the horse part of the body as well, I’m guessing some people would attempt to make it like My Little Pony.

Please no pink or purple color options, Anet. XD

The charr race isn’t even remotely cute or appealing. I don’t know why anyone would play them.

We need some cute animal races that actually have some form of appeal. Pandas would be ok but it would be a bit of a ripoff, maybe something similar though.

Get those bear people already in game and make them cuter perhaps. The ones that talk slowly and have strange names.

Don’t get me started on the salad people.

my charr is cute and fuzzy and noms salad people XD. but yeah the Kodan ( i believe you were referring to) would be an awesome addition as a playable race, as well as the largos, er whatever those underwater people are called.

Fuzzy but cute is stretching it And yes I can see charr nomming salad people

Kodan are the ones I was thinking about and also largos too, but they aren’t really appealing enough to be playable races as they stand currently.

With a few modifications they would be wonderful playable races.

Can’t wait

Anyway I gotta go afk for 10 mins be back soon to continue this conversation.

So we are going to need some form of gear score, publicly viewable agony resistance or inspect. What is your plan to address this ANet?

Also, what kind of player number cap are you putting on these dungeons? I mean 5 players is all well and good but it doesn’t feel anything like as epic as killing a mighty dragon with say, 25 or 40 people.

Why not just call it WOW as well. Put in your changes and people like you can stand yelling “LFG. Come to Lion Arch for inspection” and “LFG, Gear Score 2000 required”

When will you people realise that the vast majority don’t want that type of crap anymore and we found it here. Until now!

Thanks for reading, and thankyou arenanet for finally listening to the community ^^

They did the opposite.

Majority of people don’t want this kind of content?

How many people play WoW?

How many people play guild wars?

People standing in the middle of LA asking for inspection is just a natural part of any progression based game, no sense in fighting it.

We want to brainstorm ideas on how to even further improve the excellent direction this game is taking.

Yes because of the 5000 people that play it today really compares to the 300,000 that played it in its prime, also known as the time before ToA. This so called idea might be excellent to you, but to me its pure crap. This idea needs to be flushed down the toilet along with the moron who came up with it.

I remember ToA, exploring the ocean depths and raiding those mighty ML encounters was fun and extremely epic.

I remember when I got my axe of malice to level 10 I felt like a walking god. That’s what this game needs, ascendant and legendary weapons and armor to level off killing a specific kind of monster or player.

Also master levels would be great, imagine having even more awesome and unique abilities to gain after you hit level 80.

The agony system is really going to require a level of resistance which its mandatory for group leaders to know what kind of gear their members have in order to form successful groups or raids.

So we are going to need some form of gear score, publicly viewable agony resistance or inspect. What is your plan to address this ANet?

Feel free to give input as well people.

Gear score is what I would like to avoid.

I don’t like telling people that they can’t join me or that I can’t join others because they/I don’t have a certain type of gear, or some other requirement, so we can just try and enjoy the content of the game. I am pretty sure you wouldn’t like that either.

No gearscore, ever s’il vous plait, and let this be the last tier.

Well, I would like to enjoy the content with everyone as well. But if there is someone without agony resistance then I will need to filter them out so I can enjoy the content.

It’s a downside really but it is a necessary evil in order to enjoy this wonderful content ANet has made for us.

There we go: “What? U dont have FOTM equip? Go away Noob!”

Yeah, I know that I for one, don’t like doing this to people. I also have 2 lower level friends who just started playing. They will be “side kicked” up to 80 for this weekend, but after that I am not going to tell them that they can’t join me because they don’t have fully slotted Ascended gear.

We would all like to do the dungeons for a challenge, but this Agony is just gating people from enjoying content. There shouldn’t be this “necessary evil”.

“How are you to know capabilities of everyone without GS/inspect or something else?” <- This a horrible mindset. Gear shouldn’t determine capability.

Some people may not like this sure, but agony system does make gear strongly tied to capability.

Besides it wasn’t much different before, running CoF for example with a full exo group was like 20x faster than running with a full masterwork group.

The highest you can set your scaling level for the fractals is always the highest common difficulty level for all 5 members. If someone doesn’t have agony resistance gear you’ll know about it because you won’t be able to select the correct difficulty scaling.

Instead of inclusive DE-kind of content, we have this exclusive elitist dungeon-style of content.

Because ANet stated themselves progression content is happening.

Now onto a few things, I have some questions/ideas about game direction and would appreciate it if other people helped brainstorm.

Ok you are adding this content which gradually gets harder and takes a long time to get new gear to keep us preoccupied and that is really great, but how are we supposed to form groups to progress through content if we don’t know what kind of gear other people are wearing?

i’m getting really sick of all the people shouting that gw2 will turn into wow, it simply won’t.
i like the idea of better gear, it’s another goal for me in the game to get it. dungeons work fine with exotics so there will be enough people that don’t mind at all that you’re not in full ascended.
WvW ofcourse you will have little higher stats then your enemy. but it really is more about the player then the stats when there is such a small diffirence, and it doesnt really matter if you have stronger gear then the rest when there is a zerg of 50 players coming at you.

all the whining and jabbering on and on about how this will ruin the game is uncalled for, just see it as your next goal in the game.

You are correct, it will never be as good a gear grind as WoW is sadly, simply due to less funding. Really regrettable since ANet just squandered the rest of their playerbase.

Small difference? Have you even seen the new items, it will be at the very least 100 stat points minimum.

Won’t become WoW? It is scheduled to take more grinding than WoW to achieve this set. 5 tokens per run, 15-30 mins per run, 500 tokens per item roughly = 25 hours minimum per item.

Not changing, Asura and engineer were the whole draw for me to this game. Terribly disappointed that after getting through what felt like some very difficult leveling, and finally starting to feel good about the class again to read these notes though. But like everyone said, things will change. Maybe in another 3 months? Still the best game I’ve played in a long time. Just hope A-net doesn’t go the same route that Activision/Blizzard.

Every time they nerf they don’t even come close to addressing any issues. This is not just talking about engineers. Grenades being nerfed in SPvP when it is only useful against immobilised or snared opponents while it is overused in PvE and currently our only source of mid/long range dps while also being some of the best AoE and close range dps, thief pistolwhip being nerfed to the point of being obsolete while haste doesn’t get touched etc.

These guys have no idea what they are doing.

They are introducing grind content that would make Diablo3’s and WoW’s lovechild feel insecure. (50+ hrs for a new ring, estimated around 75 atm)

Things might change, but the sheer incompetence of the designers of this game make me feel as though Actiblizzard would be a straight upgrade from them in every aspect.

@Elaezyair:

Exactly what part do you wish to take into account?

The part where they admit to not properly staffing despite the massive initial sales? No sympathy here, you’re a business, staff appropriately.

The part where some classes are deemed more important than others, when all are incomplete or were not given their due attention to launch in a stable, working state?
Again, no sympathy, you sold it, it should be working to a minimum level of completion.

The part where he’s saying for us to be patient and wait for the next patch, regardless of our play preferences, because more fixes are coming?
Once more, it’s 3 months into the games lifespan and things are not working as they ought, and not in insignificant ways. We’re not talking balance here either, we’re talking fundamental breaks in core functions (Kits being woefully considered in current implementation is arguably a bug versus feature choice failing; by all means, choose whichever you feel is less kitten to give benefit of doubt)

I for one am sick to death of the precept that game designers or game publishers are somehow rockstar people who should be judged by different standards than those who generate and create in other fields or mediums. They are, indeed, just people and I AM sympathetic for the wealth of misery that gets visited upon them from unhappy customers over truly bizarre things.

But expecting things to work or deliver as advertised is not one of those cases and while I feel for the poor guys on the front lines, then the message of discontent and distemper must be communicated to their decision makers as a clear message that they need to allocate resources appropriately.

A-net was understaffed in support too on launch and that was a massive failing. So the excuse now for the updates and corrections is that they learned nothing and continue to under-staff game design (or by extension, code resources, to bug fix)?

By all means I’m taking those statements into account and Jon, if you are reading, I feel for you if you are critically under resourced like that, truly. I’ve been there and it’s terrible and I deeply wish you better support.

But from the point of getting the experience and satisfactory delivery for my faith and dollar as a consumer?

No one cares if you are understaffed, they care about the results provided, just like in every other business transaction they spend money for every day.

We feel sympathy for you the person, good sir, but we feel no remorse for a company that took money and failed to deliver.

At least I don’t. The opinions of others may vary.

Agreed.

I don’t care if Arenanet is understaffed, this patch is unsatisfactory on every level.
