so many peopl eunderestimate the power of stealth it seems…..
stealthing means you can:

Stand still losing ground
Predict a direction with chances to go in the wrong one
That is how a mesmer can easily escape.

Not to mention clones and phantasms….

while into the void that is a strong cc spell

Now there are lot of things on paper you said that sounds good but while in game are quite different.

Did you ever manage to stop a warrior with conditions?
and a mesmer?

And did you forget how eles lack stability?

I already quit my ele after i tested what i said on both fronts…as a mesmer running from D/D and as an ele….
there is really no point today to play an elementalist other than healing agony at maw fotm 48…that is the only use i do of my ex main nowaday

Armor of earth says hello with its 10 seconds of stability with just 60% boon duration. Mesmers have stealth but its not that great tbh.

I have a mesmer I have the most hours on my mesmer me personally have no problem catching a mesmer. Who has for the most part have lackluster condi removal compared to the other classes that excel at roaming. Eles usually run 3 cantrips thats three stun breakers that allow you to move when you use them and give you regen and vigor.

You can fool new players with mesmer antics same with thief but anyone that has a decent understanding of how a mesmer works and is playing a d/d ele should have no problem catching a mesmer.

When I fight a GS mesmer I will usually pop armor of earth as soon as I get on him because he is counting on illusionary wave to knock me back. If he pops into the void I can just lightning flash back to him if I dont dodge roll it then throw a 2 second immobilze with a short cd that will launch me to him and I have 6 seconds to active that gap closer and from what I can tell it has no distance limit I know its at a minimum of 900m for sure.

A d/d ele has as much cc as mesmer’s usually ran stun breaks the normal setup is. Mirror,blink, and insert your choice if its null or feed back then he has pretty much no condi removal at best its menders purity.

A d/d ele has earth 2 cripple, earth 3 immobilize and gap close, earth 4 knockdown, evasive arcana dodge roll cripple. That covers all the memsers usually stun breakers in 1 attunement. Even phase retreat if they are running staff.

Then after all that is RTL, Updraft, shocking aura, fire 3 if you want to count that, water 3, and still have lightning flash.

I am not saying a mesmer can’t roam they can and are decent at it but not better than a ele from my experience. Many of those abilities I listed as CC for ele can be casted while moving and require no target to cast.

I’m calculating a base burst before crit of five hits (Lightning Strike, Electric Discharge, Arcane Wave, Arcane Blast, Ride the Lightning) totalling 5559 damage + sigil of air (can’t crit, roughly 83% chance of triggering during the burst). This is calculated against 2600 armor. All five hits crit – Arcane Power gives 100% crit for precisely that many hits.

Throw in crit damage. This build hits 122% crit damage, so we’ll go with a 2.72 multiplier.

5559 * 2.72 = 15120 (rounded down)

Throw in damage multipliers. There aren’t many, but 10% while attuned to air (already factored in by the build editor), sigil of force (already factored in the build editor) and 5% if the enemy is on fire (can be fixed assuming the target doesn’t react and cleanse within 1 second, thanks to Evasive Arcana fire dodge)

15120 * 1.05 =15876

Sigil of Air will add another 1028 damage or so if it procs, or 1187 if it triggers in air attunement while the target is on fire.

So final damage = 17063 (before 20% from bolt to the heart, might, bloodlust (pushes it 10% higher if the ele farms mob kills somewhere first, with max might+bloodlust the damage is up nearly 50%), vulnerability (of which we’ll get 1-3 stacks during the burst), the additional burning damage and direct damage from the dodge roll at the start, bonuses from other classes…)

That’s 17063 damage which happens almost as fast as the elementalist can hit 5 buttons. Apart from dodging at exactly the right moment when there’s almost no warning, there’s not much that can be done to survive it other than having high enough stats.

Interestingly, Ride the Lightning can be used in an instant-cast burst because it’s also instant-cast and has moderately high damage.

Numerically speaking, the only elementalists that’ll survive the base burst are ones wearing gear with both vitality and toughness, or happen to have protection up when the burst begins -and- have 12k or more base hp. Same goes for thieves and to a degree, guardians.

But it’ll never (except with high might+bloodlust) one-shot any warrior or necromancer with toughness gear. It might get them close, but they’ll have time to react. This kills the now-helpless berserker-elementalist-who-happens-to-be-in-melee-range.

That is a full zerker build lightning blaze dude said its not glass. Which depends on his definition of not glass as a ele.

Just tested this on a drake in wvw it still works if you have another sigil that is proc or weapons swap on one of your other daggers then that could be messing with it activating as they share a ICD.

Recommended Runes for Elementalist Builds?

I can second the recommendation for +boon duration runes. I used 2x Superior Monk, 2x Superior Water, 2x Major Water for a long time with an aura sharing D/D build and they were great.

I also like Runes of Strength, which I’m using in my current build. I have Berserker Armor/Weapons, Valkyrie Trinkets, and I focus on stacking might and keeping it up at all times. These give me +5% damage when I have might, and makes might last 20% longer. For weapons, if I’m going to be in a zone for awhile I have a staff with a Sigil of Bloodlust to stack up an extra 250 power then I switch. If I’m running a dungeon and not worried about stacking buffs I have a staff, scepter, and dagger all with a Sigil of Battle (might on swap). I bring along a Dagger with Sigil of Accuracy (5% Crit Chance) for my offhand.

It has been great with using 0/10/0/30/30 using Evasive Arcana and Cleansing Water as my big traits.

Runes of strength are bugged still.

Oh I have monitored that page forever. Rune of Strength when fixed will be one of the best DPS runes you can get.

I would put them on my mesmer, warrior and possibly my thief.

I run 2 water 2 monk 2 divinity currently. I am contemplating going all divinity but I don’t know. The boons are important

If they ever fix the runes from HOTW I would run those which is suppose to be 2 piece bonus of you guessed it 15% boon duration but right now its chill for some weird reason.

If you run ether renewal then 4 piece altruism and 2 water is good or a full 6 piece altruism.

engi can easily get away due to cc and stuff.

Dunno necros.

But having most professions being able to run from a roamer is BAD.
RTL is what is supposed to prevent that but fails due to new cd.

Ele is the worst roaming profession currently.
(imho)

We are talking specs here elementalist D/D is not the best roaming profession it is Top 3 still imho. A mesmer running GS and Staff with no traited blink isn’t getting away from to many people unless they confuse you on the direction by pulling a mirror or veil juke.

If we look at build to Roam out of the classes I play mesmer, thief, elementalist, and warrior.

1) Thief – its suppose to be less dependent on long cooldowns because of stealth and in combat speed.

2) Warrior and Elementalist – I would be inclined to put the elementalist slightly ahead of the warrior because of condition removal.

3) Mesmer – able to get away through juking not so much its ability to cover large distances of ground quickly out side of blink.

There is another factor in roaming ability and that is condition removal and thief and ele are top on this list. When you are trying to escape cripples, chills, immobs, and stuns are headed your way like no tomorrow. When you are trying to chase down someone you are using those same tactics to catch up to someone.

Yeah, that’s why you remained vague about said build.

That’s because you shouldn’t depend on others telling you all the details about a build and how to play depending on your opponent/s and scenario like daphoenix did with you guys. You got to find that out on your own experience. I’m done here, you guys are just so used to the bunker/healer build and that alone will keep you from becoming more skillful with this profession that has so much potential to be great at various type of builds.

You just revealed yourself there. It wouldn’t have mattered if it was charlie brown who wrote the guide on d/d build. It was being ran before, daphoenix just helped give it more light in WvW. Its the same with many many other builds in this game it starts in s/tPvP then later moves to WvW.

We all know the swap attunement etc part most people that know a little bit about ele know the attacks that are doing the damage. That has nothing to do with learning how to play. The damage that is caused by those attacks is gear based that is what the OP and others in here are trying to figure out. Not how to swap to air and pop arcane skills.

TL/DR you aren’t holding on to some great secret sorry. Some simple testing can reveal how to get access to that damage if it is possible like the op said. Hey at least you can tell your friends I was running this before everyone else was and be cool to them

d/d elementalist is a squishy low range class.

his bunkering, glass or any d/d build available remained powerful because of its mobility (RtL).

Bunkering is not powerful because of mobility rofl. If that was the case then thieves would be the best bunkers in the game and guardians would be one of the worst.

1, because the competitive scene of WvW is gone in 2. Because when my server is suckin, people don’t say we are going to T2, they say there are no tiers.

Nobody will be considered the best server anymore, no more tiers with the new system. The complete e sports feeling is gone as well. I thought GW2 was suppose to be e sports, this new system is going the opposite direction of e sports.

Unless I am missing something my general feeling is nobody except people in Tier 1 care about the server that is number 1.

Also e-sports is s/tPvP not WvW. I don’t even know how you would e-sport WvW rofl.

Well, the OP is sort of right about the stats that have been left out; namely, the Valkyrie stats. The Ascended Tier of gear almost feels like a nerf on the “Hidden Killer” Thief builds, forcing them to go Berserker with just a tiny bit of Vitality sprinkled in.

Unless someone has spotted full Valkyrie stats at one of the Ascended vendors…

I haven’t spotted one it is like you said zerker with vitality sprinkled in. What would be good is something like infusions that give +20 to a stat and can be extracted and swapped out as you see fit for a bit more customization.

Ok anyone with half a brain can see that the OP created this poll while it favored the old system or at least any system that isn’t the new one. Its not even 72 hours yet.

You have to give it time then make the poll not 48 hours after a big change like this. That only benefits you or others who are like minded. You tried to make it sound like you are being fair and impartial but you are not by presenting the poll this early.

With that said my vote goes to 2.

It will still serve its purpose if they do look at this thread they can see how the votes changed over time.

OP has trouble with words and numbers.

It takes 2 seconds to figure out what is the priorty stat on a piece of gear o.O.

If you go to the ascended vendor scroll to the very bottom there is gear with

precision
toughness
power

Precision is the main stat but thats not knights. Knight’s is represented about half way down at the vendor.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you can read words, but not numbers, given that seems to be the issue here.

A direct comparison of Berserker stats on rings:

Red Ring of Death (Ascended):
One hundred three Power.
Sixty eight Precision.
Eight Critical Damage.

Ruby Orichalcum Ring (Exotic):
Sixty seven plus twenty five -> Ninety two power.
Forty eight plus fifteen -> Sixty three Precision.
Three plus three -> Six Critical Damage.

I hope that clears things up.

SBI, already too small to compete successfully in in Tier 4, you gave us a Tier 2 and a Tier 3 to complete against? I mean, here we are, reset night, and people are already giving up for the week as it’s clearly hopeless as we are completely out-manned on every map. Our 25 man zerg hits their 60+ man zerg and BOOM! Wipe.

Wipe. After wipe. After wipe. After wipe. At least we get the outmanned buff. But it’s a joke. We have ZERO chance to even make a respectable tick. Way to drive people away from WvW… What’s next in the joke match-ups, Ferguson’s Crossing against Sanctum of Rall?

You really should have used a NARROWER/SMALLER random seed to prevent horse-kitten like this. Make the necessary changes, but slowly and incrementally. Instead of so large and over-the-top so a server gets crushed with no hope of competing.

So this guy says use a narrower smaller seed because his server moved up to far.

My server didnt move at all technically since we are fighting the same servers we have been for 3 months. Tier 1 didn’t move at all.

So Narrower or larger which one is correct? The correct one is the one that fits the situation your currently in.

People on my server would want a wider range if it was done again since we got stuck. SBI wants it narrower.

Anyway everyone either has to deal with it or stop playing or something. There is no perfect answer here.

You have 3 possible but all of them take 30 in Arcana. Engineers have 2, Guardians 2, Rangers 2, Necros 1/2, Thieves 3, Mesmer’s 1 maybe 2, Warriors 0.

Now some are stronger than others depending on what the purpose is but mesmer definitely has many builds I know I am missing a few the only trait that is considered a must for mesmer is 5 points in illusions thats it. Everything else is up to you. Some I gave generic names to but it gives just a general idea. Many of those are pretty different than each other as far as traits good. You don’t take phantasms do 15% more damage instead of taking the extra damage for mind wrack if you are shattering as an example.

Yeah, I LOLed. Ele is fine because we have great heals in one build. Ah, well. I guess having one viable build in tPvP is better than having zero (Warrior).

The Ele probably has more viable builds than any other class. Not sure where you’re coming from with this.

3 minute fight with thief in WvW: any tips?

I have a thief played him for many many months. I am new to elementalist. The best advice I can give is to play a thief then you understand how they work. If that is not something you want to do then you can just practice dueiling them and ask friends.

I can’t speak for everyone but many people I know that have played thief alot and now play another class usually go after thieves. Thief is probably the easiest for me to kill on my warrior and my elementalist.

You said you don’t know much about thieves so I don’t really want to explain how the builds work and playstyle etc for each.

Dagger/Pistol – this will have the most stealth on demand he will put up a cloud of black smoke then leap through it with heartseeker for stealth. Run to the smoke and lay a few of your pbaoe’s into it. Optimally the thief will want to jump through it a few times for longer stealth. Dagger/pistol isnt really bursty like dagger/dagger its more sustained damage.

This is probably what you fought if you didnt do enough damage to kill each other. Mmmm this fight usually is a stalemate unless you are full burst or he is full burst or one of you makes a really big mistake that you can’t cover up. If you ran a bursty scepter build with the air 1 being channeled it would probably be in your favor.

All other builds you really shouldn’t have a problem either making them run or killing them. Thief play is pretty predictable all in all generally if it is a main hand dagger when they hit you with the open pop armor of earth for the prot and stun break lay a cripple or pop Ice armor heal up a bit then go to work. Smart thieves will get you to say 50% then heartseeker you but since we can burst heal up and easy access to prot its usually not a problem.

I usually just kill thieves with drakes breath, lightning whip with shocking aura, ring of fire, use frost armor for control. 9/10 usually drakes breath is very powerful since it has 300 range and you can kit will making them burn which means a fire grab setup.

You are right i need to be more clear:
In WWW you can t chase almost any decent player.

Nor you can escape.

D/D is a roaming profession that lost roaming capabilities.

Differently from any other profession/build it was the only stcuk by design in a single role…and now even that role is gone…

As Always not by intended design but as the usual collateral damage from short sighted PvP Patches.

You can chase and catch anyone decent or not. If they see D/D ele and come to kill you while at the same time blowing important cooldowns then you should be able to catch them easily.

90% of fights in WvW usually come down to heal. You know when you engage a player they will attempt to heal at least 1 time. After the heal is when the point of no return nears. No matter the class you should be able to see the window when you want to apply your immobs, stuns, dots, chills, etc… because you know they are about to bail. Closing out and killing someone is just as important being able to recognize different classes opening burst.

Many encounters with other classes usually have a exit flow to them. A warrior with axe/shield and gs we all know a 100bs attempt will be in there, a shield bash and evis attempt possibly bull charge after that and a heal its whirlwind time outta there at around 50% hp. Thats just 1 example but thieves, mesmers, there is usually a pattern you can see when they are going to try to bail.

They are going to put stun breakers on signets across all professions. Not all signets I would assume but signets will be getting stun breakers just have to see which ones get them.

I think the passive might need to come up in non-healing builds. If I run a clerics tactics build this signet can hold its weight, but it currently has NO place in a berserker build. Not sure it should be as viable in a seeker build, but it needs to see some play in soldiers, and certainly Valk and Shaman builds. Really signets are still going to have a hard time without a stun breaker (particularly in PvP and WvW). Obviously Dolyak signet is the most likely candidate here. Our next balance patch will absolutely be looking at stun breakers and spreading them out on all professions to make more categories of utilities viable. I’ll probably post this in general later as well but this was a larger balance pass and we will likely let this meta sit a bit longer than previous ones while we work towards taking time to push more less effective builds towards viable status.

Also agree lemongrass is amazing I ran it on my warrior for a long time. I run it on my ele I can’t see not running it since everyone and their dog running condi runs +duration food. My alt foods are the mango pie and the omnom cream but lemongrass is first class.

D/D is still good. Even after the nerf, RtL is still a strong skill. I’m not going to say the Focus is bad but it’s more situational.

I dunno, RTL is pretty bad now. Even when using it as a gap closer, one only often need to get ‘close enough’ in order to have a successful gap closer, but then you do not hit the enemy and the timer is 40 seconds. It is one of the, if not the longest, cool down gap closers in the game. 20 seconds was hardly game breaking (I think 15 seconds was OK for that matter, although it is more arguable), it was simply on par with other gap closers. Now we need to use utility for more reliable gap closers. I base this on my experience in WvW and PvE, PvP might be different, but that is why we got skill splits in the first place…

That said D/D is still pretty awesome, the build was not built around RTL. RTL was simply very nice to have in addition.

A warriors bull charge and its 40 sec cd wave hello!
Shadow Step and its 50 sec cd say hello, Steal says hello.
Mesmers Blink and its 30 sec cd say hi.

Most of these gap closers/escape skills are utilities RTL is a weapon skill. So in line with that would be Rush at 20 secs, Swoop at 12, as a gap closer you could put it in line with those skills as they are all easy to dodge as an escape RTL is on par with utility escapes having long cooldowns.

Knights w/ 6/6 melandru runes and Cavalier ascended trinkets/backpiece.

What this dude is saying. Warriors already have a high health pool. You can go runes of melandru for toughness or you can go runes of hoelbrak for a bit offensive -20 condition duration. Then add lemongrass poultry soup – 40% dogged march.

I run hoelbrak now all knights gear my setup is 10,10,30,0/20

People still running around WvW in all zerker gear o.O smh.

Crystalline Dust

Dust use to be so dirt cheap when people farmed plinx back in the day. People spent alot of time on Cursed to get legendaries and you got alot of dust there. No one really goes to cursed anymore plinx is nerfed. You still have the temples but there really isn’t much farming on cursed anymore as there is less reason to go there.

Part of it can be blamed on the community people whined that they needed more places to go. Why is cursed the end game, we hate risen, cursed is boring, risen are to hard, I can’t get anywhere etc. Enter southsun coast, enter new events that don’t happen on cursed.

I honestly always liked cursed shore the temples are in place for some cool events if they ever decide to use them for any of these living story events.

If this game is going to survive in the MMO arena, ANet needs to get its act together and fix the foundation before adding more fluff.

Never forget that fluff pays for everything else.

If this game was in the same sorry state of balance that it was in beta, and all they had added were a few PvE fixes to keep all the events running, they could still be making boatloads of money just releasing a different color cat mini every month or so.

Fluff and RNG slot-machines exist to make the bottom line look nice. PvP Balance exists because the people who make this game believe in it. But never think that anything as high-minded and abstract as “Balanced PvP Mechanics” will ever outweigh getting the next Infinite Gathering Tool out there for all the collecters to plunk down their $10 on.

Your statement has alot of weight but at the same time the guy that designed and drew the concept art for the Infinite Gathering tool is probably not the same guy who coded it. Just like the people that work on balance issues more than likely aren’t the same people that created the plush quaggan backpack.

Ascended Back Item

Get over it an play Fractals? I got my vial of condensed mists well before I hit fractals 10. In fact, my back piece is the first Ascended item I got.

I have only ever done one fractal, level 10, in my whole life. Don’t plan on going back there.They are just too long. Thankfully I got my one vial. And 3 months later when i got 250 blood at my own casual rate, I crafted it. But this is just one of my 5 characters. I don’t like farming and I don’t like fractals, so how am I going to equip my other characters with an ascended back items? Why are we forced to play a part of the game we genuinely dislike? PVE players complain about having to WvW to craft a legendary, but using double ports in EB JP isn’t WvW’ing.
PS it was my first ascended item too.

Memory is foggy but I seem to remember going around WvW to get vista’s, poi’s, and skill points.

People don’t like to craft have to that one too.

Hey guys.

Having a dilemma playing my ele. I run 0 10 0 30 30. My gear is all ppt with boon duration runes. Half my accs are celestial ascended and half are valkys. Weapons are also ppt.

My issue is 1v1 in pvp. And even small skirmishes. My damage isn’t up to par unless I have full bloodlust and sig of battle stacks up. My surviving ability also seems less than what this build is known for. I’m thinking either I suck or this build doesn’t suit my gameplay. I mainly play a burst thief and shatter mesmer.

I beleive its that im too impatient and suck at cooldown management. love the class and would love it even more to be better at it.

If anyone’s available for duels or comments feel free to reach out. I’m on isle of janthir btw. Ele mentor ftw

I am no pro elementalist I have been playing it about 3 weeks now it is really fun. I also played the other 2 classes you named alot with those specs also. The thing I noticed at first when I started playing ele was that you can get by spamming stuff against bad players. Then I dueled some friends from other servers that I know are good and I was exposed. Eventually as you get use to amount of skills and what they do it starts to slow down for you. You start to just get a feel of what is ready and what you should use.

Im still learning but I really love D/D ele style it was my first character but I stopped leveling him actually and went mesmer and thief.

I am kind of similar in build to you gear wise its a bit different but close to the same. Just my opinion is that you don’t want to invest heavy in vitality because you can’t heal the large health pool. I like 16-17k with around or close to 450-500 healing power. I sit around 16.5 hp and 17.1 with my food and server buffs usually.

Just my experience playing it is that you want to make sure you have fury up as much as possible. Once you pop a aura you should notice its alot easier to keep it up longer.

Fire Grab is odd at first but eventually you get use to how to land it. Most people try to stay away from a D/D ele from my experience use your chill, burning speed, and earth magnetic grasp(earth 3) to stay on top of them. I hardly ever use the second part of earth 3 just the immobilize.

The damage is there the burst is in fire. Churning earth has to be setup pay attention to dodges.

Just my experience d/d ele has pretty much all the tools to fight just about everything. You start to get a feel of when to use what on the different classes. The optimal rtl, updraft, burning speed etc combo isnt always going to work. Just mix it up a bit.

I dont know what heal you use I use signet so that I can keep moving ether is good but easy to interrupt in a duel you can get away with it depending on opponent. Swap in water get the regen, the cleansing wave, or cone and get out.

10 stacks of might should be pretty easy and bloodlust shouldn’t feel like a must. Power is not really a problem with d/d ele imo. I wont go less than 2k power on my warrior or mesmer. I bit less on my thief is ok because its more crit and burst. Definitely not less than 19k. On my ele I am ok with 1850 some play with less than that and put out decent damage still.

Minor Traits suggestions

The best thing I can tell about flame barrier is lingering elements applies to it. Which is pretty much all the 5 pt minor traits are affected by lingering elements. I kind of think that is the design or bonus behind it really. 2s of burning is alot since keeping burning up isn’t really hard but it fits as a good defensive type of trait and is situational.

I don’t think it would be attractive enough to go 30 pts in. 2s of situational burning would be attractive as a 5 pt minor.

@ SAKRAY.3690 Every boon you can produce and every one you receive. Mathematics aside (comparing 3 extra seconds of regeneration to 10 healing) the intuition is simple and it revolves around Bountiful Power. 2% extra damage per boon is granted for as long as you have that boon. So it’s only a 35+ power/condition that a might stack grants you but it also guarantees you 2% extra damage for that extra period that it is active. Of course this has been dropped by daphoenix in his new build in favor of a more defensive approach (specifically in terms of CC-countering). You should watch his video in youtube where he is showcasing this build in detail. here is a link to his channel.

@ haviz.1340 To my knowledge, and I m not going to claim it is any better than yours in this specific subject, a unit increase in power increases potential, raw damage by an equal amount. To that extend, Soldier’s carries 40% more power than Knight’s in stats which considering armor and weapons only is a net increase of 143 power.
Under the same conditions Knights provides 307 critical instead which translates into 20% increase in crit chance. If the above statements are true, in order for the two to break even, Knight’s has to be complemented with roughly 31% increase in crit damage (that is, from 150% base to 181%). If you check both links above the crit damage increase averages on about 51% ( = 201%). So Knight’s makes for the better complimentary to Celestial and Berserker trinkets/pieces in terms of damage increase.

If you want to compare the two in terms of damage as standalones, Soldier’s might be even better but as it is, Knight’s not only stands above, but offers utility too (Arcane VI).

@ oZii.2864 I m not really catching your drift. Unless you wish to wait for daphoenix to answer, help me understand what you are trying to get at.

For the record daphoenix claimed power=crit dmg based on a guide (if my memory isn’t cheating me).

Thanks for reply thats what I didn’t really undestand. He said that power = crit damage and that both are > precision. They way I understand it is Power>Precision>Crit dmg.

If you have to chose a offensive stat and are not sure then power is always the best choice. Crit dmg becomes valuable once you have a good chance to crit but power affects crit and non crit hits. Well basically what I am getting at is Power>Precision>Crit dmg. Crit dmg is directly related to Precision if you have 100 crit damage or 250% damage on crit but you have 10% chance to crit then critical damage is wasted.

I punched it in to get a estimate and I just can’t see going all stats on everything. My plan is to go all stat on accessories only (ascended) Amulet will be clerics (I like to be above 500 healing power) armor is all knights with 1 soldier piece (legs). 1 soldier 1 knight dagger. Back piece soldier and rings will be cavalier.

The power is really low on all stats I dont even know if divinity is better I guess it would be the next best thing to take after boon duration runes though ruby orbs or beryl would be better dps wise.

For ele my base line is 1850 power, 500 healing, 16.5k hp and 2.7k armor (30% damage mitigation) 30% crit chance. 40-50% crit damage nothing less than these numbers. The damage mitigation from all stat is less than soldier or knights etc. Though EHP is a little better since you get vitality along with it but its not a big jump tbh.

If I read right phoenix said Power=Crit damage > but power does more for your crits than crit damage until you get to a certain crit damage value like 80+ then if you get that high you need the precision to go along with it otherwise its not doing anything for you.

The majority of negative posts that are extremely vocal are by those that think they are the champion for that forum or that class.

Of the classes I played so far..

Mesmer forums – pretty friendly I can’t deny that.

Warrior forums – usually can’t seem to wrap their heads around you don’t have to be all the max damage stats to still do alot of damage. A trait can’t be put into tactics because nobody goes into tactics. All important traits have to be in strength, arms, or only 20 pts in discipline, defense is ok but don’t make it 30 pts. I still can’t figure out warriors mentality yet.

Thief – Everyone seems ok imo its just that most people that play thief know its not as hot as people make it out to be. sPvP hotjoins don’t count, High level tPvP play then I will listen. 1v1 discussion is interesting but the water it holds isn’t very much and shouldn’t have alot of stock put into it. Really after you actually played a thief as in pushed it as far as you can take it then when you play another class you should not have a problem killing a thief especially a bad thief.

Elementalist forums – kind of slow actually most discussion revolves around 0/10/0/ at least 20 water/ 30 arcana. Basically 1 build and most of it has been figured out.

More uses for conjures and signets

I think the passive might need to come up in non-healing builds. If I run a clerics tactics build this signet can hold its weight, but it currently has NO place in a berserker build. Not sure it should be as viable in a seeker build, but it needs to see some play in soldiers, and certainly Valk and Shaman builds. Nah, I think it’s a good balance at the moment. I used to use this constantly and it was a bit too easy to just escape. Now I really need to think about how and when to use it.

Keep it the way it is.

My complaining is about its use as of an engage.You are supposed to get the benefit of 20 sec cd when using it to engage but thats not happening atm.
At the very least make blocks ,blinds ,invuln trigger the low cd.Which is actually what they said in the sotg..but apparently Jonathan and Karl werent 100% informed about it :P

Yea they did state that blocks would register as a hit in the code so it would still give the lower cd. I don’t know about blinds, or invuln nothing registers as a hit in game when blinded or invuln.

Dunno what game you’re playing but currently ele is even less mobile than GS warrior with the real top tier for mobility occupied by thieves, what you and more people like you don’t get is that Anet delivered a series of unjustified nerfs for the whole profession based on a single build

? A gs warrior has always been one of the top tier mobility classes very close to elementalist. That shouldnt be news of a warrior having mobility.

The 1500 range on RTL is what really helped it outpace many classes.

A warrior can have pretty much perma swiftness traited GS would be 1200 range rush 16 sec cd, Whirlwind 450(600 with swiftness) on 8 sec cd and Savage leap on 8 sec cd 600 range (about 900 with swiftness)

After looking at celestial and finding a balance I decided that I will grab 4 pieces of celestial jewelry accessories and rings, cav amulet and soldier backpiece.

This is basically the stat setup I came up with

I like to be around 30% damage mitigation, after playing ele alot the past 2 weeks I feel like -40% condition duration a must for me. So far the main things that get me killed are immob, cripple, and chill. I also feel like I don’t have to spec alot of power since might is pretty easy to get. So 1850 was my goal but 1847 works for me. The hp is a bit high at 18k but its more than I currently have and also more armor than I currently have. The healing is nice and will end up slightly more than I currently have.

Really the biggest difference now and when i finish getting the celestial items is a little less power about 20 pts. I would like to get to 2.00 critical damage mark so I may change a dagger to zerker eventually.

I dropped the 2 major water runes for ruby orbs the 10% boon duration isn’t big imo when I looked at the boons I get often the biggest difference was in soothing disruption but its less than a second difference same with swap into earth for protection.

WWW is not balanced unless you think that sice everybody can use an AC then it is….

WWW is just little less unbalanced that PvE.

PvP is almost balanced maybe and the price for that was destroying other 2 game modes…..
Its clear in any interview that ele NEVER was a WWW issue after release except maybe focus 4….

Aside interview saying that, you can also see strong NERFS in PvE that clearly weren t needed.

I know on this forum people needs to read a thing from 100 players then it becomes the truth….

But as i predicted most things happened (see ranger state, confusion nerf and stuffs like those) a lot before…..now ele is becoming every day less accepted in organized WWW.

Even with that boring buffbot build……(dps is not welcome any more it seems).

Oh well we still can kill AC behind walls with scepter DT ….until next patch

Guardian isn’t uber moble if it is this “Organized” WvW as you put it then class deficiencies are covered up by the group and accounted for. Whatever you feel a ele doesn’t bring in this “organized” WvW those people you play with should get “organized”

All stat items(celestial, Div) vs Specialized

I wanted to know what the general consensus from elementalist on the all stat vs specialized items.

Some prefer all divinity others prefer specialized like cavalier, or knights or zerker. The reason why I am wondering is that on many other classes I have played and forums I read most people will only grab divinity runes but most do not think all stats are worth it because you aren’t good at any particular thing just medicore at many.

Phantasm Mesmer no chance if they know what they are doing. I just can’t see how you can possibly beat a Phantasm Mesmer as a D/D ele in a duel I just started playing D/D ele but I have had a mesmer for a long time. I have never had a problem with D/D ele’s on my mesmer.

Shatter is different and I feel definitely doable.

What you’re talking about is unusual behavior. Most people do not study combat logs, optimize and tweak builds to death, or analyze combat encounters in minute detail until they know both what they did wrong and what their opponent did right. Most people do not level up an alt for the sole purpose of learning how the class ticks so they can know how to beat them in PvP. What you’re talking about requires time and mental energy that most people have dedicated elsewhere.

Also, I think the classes are generally balanced. However, and this has been a topic of conversation since release, some of the classes are remarkably easier to play at a mediocre level. I think all classes have a relatively high skill-ceiling, but I think a chosen few classes have a low skill floor that makes them seem a bit OP when two players of average skill confront each other and one wipes the floor with the other. I bring this up because it’s far more interesting than whining about which class is OP and needs adjusting. Elementalist was considered an incredibly complex class until daphoenix (and others) started churning out D/D guides and videos. It turns out almost anyone can be taught, and the complex part was fitting it all together in the first place.

I never look at combat logs really unless I get killshot or I want to see what damage I did. I feel like there is a skill cap difference between classes but I also think there is a component of conventional vs unconventional for some classes that give the appearance that one class is easier than another.

Conventional would be Warrior as an example on the surface its pretty straight forward.

Unconventional would be thief, elementalist, mesmer (usually the most complained about classes)

The other classes I havent played to see how "straight forward’ they are in terms of conventional MMO style play for their profession archetype. My experience in game is I will study another class when trial and error doesn’t seem to work or I can’t get by on that alone. Mesmer and thief are the 2 classes I would say where most people may have to seek outside sources on help defeating because on the surface they can seem unbeatable because they capitalize heavily on the enemy being confused.

I remember when d/d bunker eles first popped up in WvW against my server and I was in Team Speak. People from my guild where talking about 2 elementalist hacking because they had every boon in the game etc. I had never seen one so I went to take a look and their I saw elementalist fighting about 8-9 people. I didnt think hax my GL linked daphoenix’s Excala episode 3 I believe and I did some reading on them. Eventually more people learned how to fight d/d elementalist those that still complained are the ones that will chase a elementalist half way across the map.

Sorry for quoting a small excerpt, but the original post was rather large.

First revert rtl’s cool down it was silly to do what they did in the first pace. Second, lower base healing and increase the healing power scaling. Third, improve auto attack DPS across all weapon sets save Air 1 scepter. Fourth, do a completely overhaul of lines 1 and 2 in traits.

I agree with this… RTL nerf does nothing to balance D/D bunker. IMHO, the real problem with D/D bunker is the healing. You can pop back up in health rather quickly when cycling through water. I think ANet should have focused on the healing aspect instead.

Your idea about lowering base healing and increasing the effects of healing power is interesting. It would force bunkers into the healing stat if they want to have the same healing as before — resulting in lower DPS (from loss of another stat).

Another possibility is change Dagger-2 so it doesn’t not self heal, instead just healing players in the AoE cone. Also the water 15pt trait could be changed to something other than a heal. There are more changes around water and healing that could be examined as well.

From my understanding don’t many of the elementalist healing abilities scale pretty well with healing power? Regen doesn’t scale great with healing power but that is for all classes.
