[PvX] Downed/Stomping - The unwanted feature?

Hey, just passing by, but eles mist form isn’t a guaranted stomp escape, nor mesmers. If you start the stomp animation right as they mistform, you’ll get the stomp successfully by blinking to them. Mesmer is the same, except that there’s a cast time for their 2 abilities so you can just cancel your previous stomp, start again, and get it.

For the actual topic, it does make outnumbered fights harder, but I like the mechanic in itself, it’s something different from other MMOs. I don’t want it removed.

D/P is more dps oriented, so you have to trait into critical strikes for it. Since S/d relies on sigil procs and hard hitting attacks without modifiers, they can trait into acro.

IF they ever nerfed gs to the point it’s useless, you’d just have the “but ax” thought in the back of your head. And if they nerf axe, it’ll be the next damage dealing weapon.

Eviscerate is on a minimum 7 second cooldown. Put a cd on backstab. See, that’s not how it works.

If you do use trooper runes, you’ll need shouts, and if you take shouts in a tanky build like that, better trait them.
Things like 0/2/6/0/6 builds with axe and hammer works, although having a gs for mobility is also a nice choice.

You can’t buy them. The closest thing to tomes of knowledge in game is dungeon buying, you get about 3/4 a level for 2 to 7 gold.

They do contribute to the score. Even if the ppt system has its flaws and PvD should be reworked, they are at least doing something for their world, thus the WwW rank increase. I’m not saying that they should be rewarded as much as they are compared to, for instance, scouts and roamers like myself, but within the point system made by anet, they are sadly the most useful.

Mmh, it’s rather meh. Mixing only soldier and berserker won’t achieve anything. You’ll lack crit chance without an intel sigil. Knight would be better imo, and that way your EHP from adrenaline health and hs goes up. Maybe one of two pieces of zealot could make the deal. I don’t get your utilities. You have only one shout, but you take soldier runes. You have one shout, one physical, one stance. Go either triple stance or 2/3 shouts build. Your best bet as far as runes go is melandru, but they are expensive. Your trait distribution is strange as well. You could either move thos tactics points wich aren’t mandatory to discipline for a F1 oriented build, or move the arms or strenght points to tactics and make a shout heal build.

Thief support exists only in pve, mainly. But you do support your team by helping them killing priority targets, so you got that going for you, wich is nice.

It’s easier to play on EotM because it’s the official farming map. WwW ranks are supposed to be about World versus Word ranks, meaning that someone not fighting for it and just capping points over on over on a dedicated farming map shouldn’t be rewarded for that. Anyway, I won’t bring your success for a rant topic. Still congratulations.

The point of fresh air is attunement switching. Just go fire staff ele, that’s the only meta build camping one attunement in combat. It does pitiful support, and you should still swap out of combat for swiftness/ condi removal, but there you go. What’s the point of playing an elementalist if you don’t like attunements, though?

Thing is, instant casts and fast casting skills are necessary for the fast paced type of combat in gw2. Most of the instant casts ( and I said most) are balanced around their advantages, and doesn’t bring effects as powerful as a 1 sec cast time skill for instance. It does make certain things harder to see, but upping cast times would make the fights less fun to watch, imho.

So you agree that this achievement of yours is only due to the mob following you, and that your sub optimal build would get destroyed in any pvp environment? And in the same time, don’t you think it shows a real flaw with EotM where people just follow a tag around mindlessly and succeed if they are in large numbers, not accounting the individual knowledge nor the teamplay ( because a racial sylvari build isn’t really a team oriented build). Lastly, what do you feel about the rewards in EotM? Do you feel like they are justified?

I’m asking this since you’re a diamond legend and thus have a great knowledge of WwW and its mechanics.

The devs went so fast with fixing this they nearly blinked up, and got stuck. That’s why it’s still there. But don’t worry, they are typing a /dance right now to fix it.

Guardian is the backbone of every PvE group.

1. No, they’re not. You can run several dungeons easily without a guaridan. Good players are the backbone of every PvE group. Good players being people who know that guardians aren’t a necessity for PvE.

2. OP is probably asking about open PvE. And in open PvE you can faceroll pretty much everything with any class.

You can run every dungeons with 5 necros, that doesn’t make them meta. Guardians are powerful in the current meta, and will still be, they are a great addition to most groups, at least for casual runs.

Elementalist in pve

Elementalist is quite easy to level with ice bow and fgs. For solo dungeons, it’s one of the hardest classes to master since they are really squishy and the fgs nerf will make them slower than tankier classes. So, for a solo aspect, they are far behind warrior if you do think there should be a high risk/high reward factor. A mastered ele is a powerful destruction machine, but they are better used in group settings. Their mobility in open world and their burst/dps makes farming 80 zones easier than most classes.

Engi will be meta for pve related content at some point. At least, they are much more useful than some other classes struggling to keep on par. But yeah, the skill cap is really high.

Engineers are pretty good indeed, they’ll get a good relative buffs in pve, are fun in small scale roaming, and in a good spot for pvp. They are pretty average right now, that’s why I forgot to mention them.

According to DnT forums, it is a dps increase. Then again I can’t provide you maths for that, so it’s worth testing. I believe engis are valuable in fractals, arah, se, cm, anything that requires stealth and proj reflection anyway. THey wouldn’t bring much in ac, ta, and coe. Maybe CoF. Still, you shouldn’t bother with GWSC imo. 5 engis will work, but it won’t be the absolute best time, wich is the points of gwsc. Have fun.

Lol, it’s pretty easy to make a d/p Thief with 3k armor, 2.5k power, and almost 20k HP (assuming full guard leech buffs/blood lust). D/p is just as faceroll as P/d.

I thought we were speaking of meta builds, where a D/P thief will have both critical strikes and trickery maxed out. That’s 14k health in full berserker with stacks, and about 16-17 in a tankier ( read: less effective in what it’s supposed to do) build.

Yeah, I’m just giving thought to improve. Also the op stated speedrun in his post, wich could be confusing for any reader. Anyway back on topic: Bunker down is a dps increase, and you want to take it if you’re maximizing your dps, but even if it’s really good on paper, it requires good positioning. Reflects are indeed reliants on rng, since the tossed elixir closer to the boss will be taken into account not accounting the others behind, you can’t spam 5 and hope for a wall. Stacking mights before a fight is most of the time a time loss, especially since some engi blasts ( mainly BOB and eg4, be careful with BOB though) are a dps increase. The rotation should be: 5 grenade barrages, one engi camp nades, 3 camp bomb aa, 1 uses bomb 2, blasts, etc, or something around that. I’d like to participate as well, but I’m EU. For bleed damage, you’ll cap 25 bleeds pretty fast even without nade spamming, so bomb will be a dps gain over grenade aa. You still want to use shrapnel and freeze in between, possibly when restacking might, every 20 seconds or so.

If you want to be a good player overall you need a good knowledge of your class obviously, but also of the other classes. I’m not a great player myself, i’ve bad reflexes, but I know every single attack in this game, with its cooldown, expected damages, effects, radius, as well as traits. That way, you’re not surprised by anything, and you can judge what do doge and what to not dodge. Then it’s a matter of positioning and playing with the opponent’s brain, especially as a thief. That said, your goal in tpvp/spvp is to cap points, and a thief role is to steal unguarded points with its good mobility, and help win teamfights by bursting the squishies, you want to avoid 1v1. There’s a lof ot advices really, start reading around the forums and watch high level streamers to see how they react.

For pve that’s another story, you’re expected to bring blind spam, stealth, single target dps and single target spike, and surviving comes down to knowing the boss mechanics.

Keep in mind that tiers are situational and there’s a lot of situations where this doesn’t apply, but for now:
pve:
ele, engi,guardian, warrior are in a good/great spot, both in pugs and guild runs
thief, ranger, mesmer are situational/ rather meh
necro still lacks support

www:
GWEN is still the zerg meta
thieves and mesmers are still great roamers
rangers and condi mesmers will shift, med guards are buffed, slight deserved nerf to warriors
pvp: we may see more power rangers ( go go!), dps guard will probably be viable at higher levels, maybe the warrior stack will end a bit, not sure

Your reflects are also rng based. But it’s like asking why is 4war1mes suboptimal since you have banners, timewarp, vuln, might, and fury. Engineer on paper dps and burst are cool, but it relies on bunker down, and in a speedrun you just don’t take something with good dps, you take the absolute best possible (=eles for now). That’s for speedruns though, not “casual” daily tours. For tours I still like having a guard for aegis when i don’t feel like dodging, and eles for dem pretty conjures. So, engi has a lot of things, but since they are not the best in it, taking more than 1 or 2 hinder their potential. 2 engis is already 25 vuln, about max. might depending on your utilities, 30-40% reflect uptime, and far enough stealth for any run section. Even 1 engi is already 25 vuln, 9-12 might, 20% reflect uptime, and stealth. So the problem is that 5 engis are only a bit more useful than a single one.

yeah, i was referring to bountiful theft. And no, at least for me 1vx aren’t stealth backstab, reset and come back. But anyway yeah, back on topic: I don’t think traiting 6 points for a trait like that is any good. You already have at least one breakstun and plenty of blinds on both d/p and p/d, and since most control skills are also hard hittings they are usually avoided. IMO, if a stomp is so insecured that you need stability even when stealthed, it’s probably a stomp you won’t get at all, so it’s really situational.

Just like everything else, stacking 5x the same class is obviously suboptimal. Even if engineers are versatile, having more than 2 is really crippling. You can do a 5 engineer team, but it won’t be close to a speedrun. That said, i don’t think you need a specific running build, etc. 5 meta engis will have 5 smoke fields, 5 toss elixir s, and a ton of blasts. Even more than 1 engi is already too much, at least for now. 2 engis/2 eles/1 war, maybe?

d/p isn’t that great in 1v1 for an average player. You need to time your skills carefully, and play cautious, wich isn’t the case for condis. d/p still get destroyed by some specs ( med guards, engineers), and has weakness. Condi doesn’t. d/p requires a good knowledge of the game mechanics (boon stealing, interrupt). Condi doesn’t. Recovering from a mistake as a d/p thief is insanely hard provided you’re not traiting in sa. So yes, D/P isn’t the best 1v1 set. Except if you’re fighting those warriors spamming aa in a blinding power and then asking for a nerf.

No. D/P is great in small groups and can work in 1v1, but condi P/D are just unkillables in the hands of a good player. a d/P power doesn’t have 20k health and a ton of toughness. Thing is, those two specs have opposite roles. Condi is a troll spec for either inexperienced players or people wanting to 1vX easily. It is built for attrition and huge survivability, and you can make a lot of mistakes. D/P is not about attrition at all. It’s a single target squishy dps with lot of pressure coming from blind spam and interrupt. But if you ever take a backstab or an evisc, you’re on the floor. D/P is powerful, but its advantages aren’t selfish, thus it’s harder to survive on your own.

You usually solo/duo a path and sell the other spots. Selling was a good thing few months ago but now that the prices dropped it’s not money-efficient anymore.
