Interrupts works for all the party. And you can’t dodge things like berserker abomination enrage. Long lasting cc like frost bow 5 are rewarding to pull out, especially on bosses like ooze in arah P1. The defiant system is good, it allows good parties to interrupt whatever they want, but it’s not a mindless cc spam.
He’s right. For high level pve, necros are dragging down the party. But they are fine in pugs, casual fractals, chilled runs, etc.
The active Signet parts, with the traits that keeps the passive effect (Written in Stone) and the trait reduces signet cooldown.
Keeping the passive part also makes using Signet of Restoration more viable.
Signet of Fire is for high Burning dmg.Again, i am not saying its a good build. I just wanted something different.
That to me seems acceptable for what i wanna do in PvE.
What i meant is, how will signets save you from a difficult situation? If you’re close to being downed, there’s nothing you can do with this build. Get mistform, earth shield, glyph of storms, lightning hammer, arcane shield, and your survivability will go up.
Lol, bosses without defiance would be so easy.
I’m talking about utilities. How will signet of earth, fire, or water boost your survivability. Lh, sandstorm, mist form and arcane shields are defensive. Signets are just passive boosts you take when you have nothing better to put in the slot, wich is never the case with ele.
Problem is the dagger mainhand and the dagger offhand serves opposite purposes. Dagger mainhand is for dps outside of conjures, and dagger offhand is for burst before conjuring. Dagger focus relies on the defensive utilities of the focus and the good dps of dagger mainhand, scepter focus relies on the good burst of scepter, swirling winds before casting hammer, and then the conjures dps, and scepter dagger is the burst heavy set. Dagger/dagger is a non bursty weapon mainhand with a bursty weapon offhand. You’ll also have less blast finishers than d/f or s/x, and using dagger on a full conjure build is indeed a dps loss over scepter.
How is full signet more defensive? You have nothing to defend yourself. And please take fgs.
Do you really think all classes are the same and all meta builds serve the same purpose?
Yeah, no one forces you to be a team player, that still stands. That doesn’t mean you can’t. You see all the condi removal on a meta warrior? No? That’s because they trust the guard/mesmer enough to take points away of personal traitlines. On this regard, gw2 is a great game that promotes teamplay, but you can still get away without because the content is easy. And for that, you’re blaming the combat system, when it’s the lack of new dungeons that hurt.
Thats the point, you all regard team play as “everyone does the same thing” no roles. Its not even worth being on a team if you all do the same thing, but in different animations. There is no struggle. That’s the point, if you can play this game without basic rolls and even solo it because of easy content, whats the point? Unless you don’t like being challenged, has nothing to do with new dungeons. The dungeons now are grotesquely easy. Are all gamers just being so self righteous in a game that lacks no difficulty? Put aside even the trinity factor, there is no difficulty, do you really enjoy a game with skill to it? Are you gamers here that complacent on what gaming in general is?
If and if, they do make new dungeons or content that is difficult, will it become an actual game, but right now its no harder then barbie adventure, with pretty animations.
Do you not want to be pushed as a gamer? Why game at all that involves leveling and team fights? Might as well hang your hat. Go play old games where every move you made mattered, and experience true gaming…
Unless your all satisfied with this. Then I cant complain that majority of gamers (Americans) hold no skill in the virtual world.
That’s funny because you keep talking about skill and you don’t even understand how the game works. No, all classes have different roles. They are all supports, but not in the same way. Eles can’t give aegis, and guards have no banner buffs. Not everyone can solo dungeons. Everyone wants new content, you, me, whiteknights heroes. Trinity on the other hand isn’t something we want. So yeah, if you’re really the god of gamers you claim to be, and if this game is so easy it makes you ill, maybe it’s time to move on. I’m having fun with this game, despite its flaws. Otherwise I would just play something else.
What about " P1 chilled run, underboobs=kick" ?
Cc and boons are the core of high level pve, we already use them.
GS/ sword focus for general pve, scepter for large hitbox bosses ( lupicus, ac endbosses, etc), hammer for fractal. You should carry all weapons on you to adapt, but those are the one you will be using the most. Staff is meh in pve because the might stacks are too short and overwrite longer might stacks, and you’re stuck with an awful weapon if you switch to it in combat. In www zergs, all 2 handed weapon are good choices, so either gs/hammer, gs/staff, or staff hammer. For roaming, greatsword+ sword focus are a solid choice for meditation but it can be swapped for something else.
You can buy extra character slots in the gemstore. But it’s pretty expensive to convert gold into gems.
Do you really think all classes are the same and all meta builds serve the same purpose?

pve is worthwile. It’s just old. But the starting point of this game is great, and relying on active defenses is just funnier than stacking behind the tank. People are mad because they can’t bring their full nomad ranger to speedruns. But you still can play whatever you want and no one forces you to be a team player, that’s what “all welcomed” LFGs are for.
Edit: Yup, content is easy. That’s why we’re arguing for new content. But we still need the easy dungeons to stay because not everyone is in a speedrun guild.
(edited by oxtred.7658)
Hey guys, guess what, nerf fgs and elementalists are still meta. It’ll have negative effects on some classes (ranger for instance), but ele is still the best dps in this game, dungeons runs are slower, but there are still the same. Ever tried to fgs mossman or Archdiviner at scale 50? I’m playing guardian with my guild, and if i miss an aegis or if i use it 1/2 sec too late, we’re all dead. The best way to get rid of the fgs meta for a while is giving us new content.
Oh nice, yea hopefully we still get invites from dungeon runs.
Not sure what happened but after a year of hiatus, most players became elitists and only wants a single build to run dungeons rather than let people have fun with their own builds.
So even though im not a jerk who wants everything done fast rather than enjoy the company of more people, i still want to go dungeon runs sadly, being in the meta is now a requirement
step 1: post your own lfg
step 2: add “any build welcome, no charrs, P1” in the lfg
step 3: kick anyone not matching your lfg
step 4: do your dungeon
Meta is not a requirement, and every team can complete any dungeon. It’s just that some people enjoy support, and the meta is support oriented.
Guys, it’s a 1 year old post.
Those who can’t live without trinity, time to save up for a WoW monthly fee.
Because that’s the only difference between GW2 and WoW right?
When people say this argument, I always wonder what they think to themselves. “Oh yeah, this is a good’un” like they’re totally blind to how bad an argument it is.
It’s not an argument, it’s an advice. If those guys don’t like how gw2 combat system is done, they’re not tied to this game. It’s not like the game has much to offer for pve players besides that fast paced combat style where my guardian supports everyone in full berserker. Complaining about the absence of trinity in a non-trinity game is kind of stupid.
They are powerful ( hear: average) in all pvp game modes. Their dps is also totally respectable, it’s just a selfish class and there’s no point taking a necro over something else. THat’s a bit less true in fractals ( non speedruns/pugs), because the weakness spam is nice to have. You can main something else in pve and play necro when you want, but i’d advice having a back-up. In case you wonder when to take one, they are great at single target dps, a bit of vuln, and mainly boonstrip/ condition manipulations.
The gs damage nerf won’t hurt banner bots that much, at least not in groups. What may hurt them is the incoming fgs nerf. Less overall party dps= reduced need of stacking banners. Meta will probably still involve a warrior, but it’ll be easier to swap it for something else.
You broke my hearth.
Pve builds don’t perform well in WwW, and WwW builds don’t perform well in pve. The support you’re providing is different in those two. Pve requires a lot of team oriented comps and active defense via consecrations and virtues, and WwW builds are often shout oriented. So, you could take a build for both, but you’ll be underperforming in those two gamemodes.
For WwW, the zerg meta is either x/x/x/6/6 or x/x/6/6/x. The first one is far more team oriented, but loose all the personal survivability from AH, so it’s not a noob friendly build. In solo roaming, meditations builds are good, anything with monk’s focus and the remaining traits are for you to decide.
For pve, the usual group spec is 4/5/0/0/5, it gives you a ton of support via blind spam, aegis, condi removal or stability on virtues, and consecrations. There’s a lot of different specs for solo/ group play to optimize your dps when you don’t need MoC or absolute resolution, but the one above is good pretty much everywhere. In fractals, you want an hammer spec.
Guys, it’s a 1 year old post.
Those who can’t live without trinity, time to save up for a WoW monthly fee.
Thing is, if you ever do high level fractals or speedruns, ascended is required. And yeah, it’s grindy, just like every other game.
Guard isn’t good at might stacking on its own. If you’re not confident in full zerker, try with knight/ zealot first and then switch out when needed.
Nah, keep then in marksmanship, spotter is great.
For sigils, force+ fire or air+fire are great for bursting, and then energy+ whatever on greatsword. I can’t think of something better right now.
It’s a health percentage, so it’s actually one of the least threatening things to classes that get one shot by almost everything.
Like Mesmer.
Mesmers are one of the easiest class to play melee, though. Mesmer is nothing compared to ele or thief.
You can do pretty much everything while in stealth ( except attacking, obviously), but remember that stealth doesn’t equal to out of combat, be careful to no blind/ damage a foe when stealthing. And yeah, bow can tag things, but not as much as a staff guard, and the damage is low.
Isn’t this lag?
Mesmers and thieves’ downed ability #2 doesn’t save them for a stomp, though. You can stomp an ele after mist form but it requires perfect timing, except if you’re lucky and he has quickness on. Just sayin’
Yeah, I know what OP wants. But it would be far too overpowered.
At least you have the opportunity to do the zhaitan fight again, it’s the best endboss i’ve ever seen.. Oh wait.
Yeah, it sucks, I did story 9 times and it’s still boring. I never got trolled by the new ls thing though, I feel your pain.
Don’t lie, everyone got excited for a second with that red thread before reading the title and realizing it’s 1 year old.
The easiest and laziest way to stack stealth is to sit in a shadow refuge. Leaving before the full duration will reveal you, but staying gives you about 8 sec of stealth. The most efficient way to solo stack stealth is to put a shadowscreen first, blast it with shortbow 2 until it’s gone, move your way through the mobs, and put a sr (shadow refuge) when stealth is about to end. If you’re having trouble you can respec and spend 3 points in shadow arts for longer stealth.
Thief is a good pve class, with the 2nd single target dps and an insane burst. For dungeons they are wanted in trash-heavies path like cm or arah. For open world, they are great for soloing content, but tagging in DE isn’t that efficient with a thief, their range weapon is kinda weak.
Hope this helps.
No, it’s unbalanced, thief should have cooldowns as well.
/sarcasm
Are you for real?
We use in combat stacking against long bosses, maybe that’s not common in pugs though. It’s not a matter of DPS, It’s a matter of burst. Most bosses will be dead just when you drop your 3rd symbol, and you need to re stack might for the others. Also, the best dps for guardian is scepter. But yeah, hammer is a great weapon. It’s just not suited for dungeons.
Or total condition immunity, great stability uptime and 10 sec direct damage immunity on the highest hp class? Don’t get me wrong, I think warrior will be in a good spot after the nerf in pvp and it was unjustified for pve, but you can’t really complain about that one change, it’s the only one that makes sense.
This change will transform warriors into one weapon slot profession because longbow will now be mandatory for sPvP.
It was already the case.
Unfortunately i still lack a Us account and you can’t play across regions. There’s some stickies on this forum, you could start with that, I didn’t read them but they should be up to date. Good luck with the game, and welcome!

Sometimes you just feel like playing something, it’s unexpainable. Generally, I bring ele/guard for group dungeons, guard/thief for casual solos, warrior for buisness solos, thief and mesmer for roaming, ele for zerg, engi for pvp… etc, depends a lot.
You can still buy a second account, or say you were drunk. Or just don’t care at all.
/pointless advices
Are you really surprised?
Wow, you are rewarded for hitting your foe, what a nonsense!
The game isn’t balanced around solo.
“Kiss my tail!”
Hello, I’m back ingame tommorow evening, so assuming you’re eu, i can show you some things or two. Just say if you’re EU or NA.
In open world pve, any class will succeed.
Engis.
/fifteenchars
It’s in a selfish traitline.
Healing signet is great, and please don’t use adrenal health in pve. With the new adrenaline changes, it’s hard to say if healing surge will be more used though.
