i know that the prices are set buy players …but if anet raise the drom rate or something..
for example look what happend to “monocle”

all im saying is that an exotic weapon shouldn’t have a price that hight and something should be done about it

peace

IIRC John Smith once said by increasing a drop rate for such an item would actually casuse the price to increase…he had graphs and charts to prove it too

actually he said, that a specific set of occurences, with a specifc timing, and specific means could lead to that effect, not that it would always be the case. He later pointed this out when people brought it up in relation to chaos of lyssa

These are the quotes I was refering to: (took a bit to find)

This is very astute. All evidence we have shows that doubling the precursor drop rate would actually increase the price, not decrease it. The shape of the curve looks something like this (obviously ignoring any actual numbers on the graph).

One more time:
1. “In economics, a shock is an unexpected or unpredictable event that affects an economy” This would be neither. Just because two terms are similar doesn’t mean they can be used interchangeably.
2. I’m not trying to touch on anything in particular, I’m informing you about how life works.
3. It’s not a sine curve, nor is it a supply curve, nor is it lacking a demand curve. It’s a representation of the shape of changing price over time or quantity.
4. You have a good grasp of elasticity, but I’m referring to a more complicated concept here, one that’s specifically visible in virtual economies, but present in other economies as well, depending on the state of the market.
Ensign – this is to your question as well.
We’ve seen before that at certain points in certain markets, changes to the supply side of the equation has resulted in an effect that is opposite of what was expected. We noticed that shifting the supply side equation caused the demand side of the market to shift even further. As people see the changes in the game many of them decide to enter the market. The changes to the in game content, cause a change in individual preferences. The phenomena falls off pretty quickly as you push harder on the supply side, but small changes so far have resulted in increased demand due to changing preferences. That’s why if we were to increase the input by 10 prices would drop, but if we were to increase it only slightly, prices would most likely go up

you guys don’t get do you?
i said that an exotic weapon/item should have a price for an exotic weapon/item
and it doesn’t matter if i want the weapon or its skin or whatever
and if a weapon is used as crafting material should have a price for a crafting material
and i you guys think that its fair for someone to get a weapon for 20 then someone else get it for 1kg or more that’s your opinion

peace

so it would be fair to drop the price back to 20g after thousands of players paid 1000g for it? What about all those who paid more? will they a refund? Or would they just be out 980g?

Again, as it’s been said before, the price isn’t controlled by Anet in the least. It’s controlled by the players. Period. As the item has become much more desirable, (higher demand) the drop rate is still the same (and won’t be changed) (aka Supply) thus resulting in a higher price.

Can someone explain me why still it isn’t? We all know that this is server with the highest Polish population.

We do? That’s news to me.

Yes, we do.

I was not aware of this….hmmm must be a bug….

Don’t be malicious. It’s still isn’t tagged, so you couldn’t know. That’s why we ALL need OFFICIAL tag, so people won’t be confused.

I wasn’t being “malicious”, I was being sarcastic. A claim that “everyone knows” when people clearly don’t really doesn’t help your case. In any event, you can set the language filter to display only Polish if you want, so you don’t need to deal with the english speaking peoples. And as it was pointed out, there are no specific langauge server, and I believe the default language english for all servers anway.

How to fix the bltc forums

in Black Lion Trading Co

pdavis.8031

People get fixated on a belief on how something works, no amount of education or evidence will change their minds.

Very true. However having a gem store 101 and TP 101 sticky might reduce the amount of threads started that claim the gem to gold exchange rate is broke, or TP flipping is OP, or the economy is ruined because I’m a casual player and can’t buy a precurser QQ, etc. As 10% of those threads are just the OP claiming whatever, and the other 90% are saying that it’s not broken and is working as intended until JS shows up, says “it’s not broken, learn to economics”, to which the OP responds JS doesn’t know anything, and the thread gets shut down for the 90% calling the OP a moron.

Having a sticky would allow such threads to be dramatically shorter, as each response from the 90% could just be a link to the sticky, or the section of the sticky. In essence, forcing the OP to either read the sticky or continue to rant by himself. In any event it will certainly free up much of JSs time so he can be doing other things, like his job.

Just saying….

We don’t know what their limitations are, or their hack/cheat detection protocols are, or what methods they have available to deal with such things. To say that they are not doing anything about it may not be accurate at all. I would think that instead of just banning the offender, who will come back with another account (hacked and stolen from someone else most likely), they would flag the offender. And by flagging them, and watching them, learn HOW they are doing what they are doing, and the best methods to not only stop them from continuing to do so, but to prevent future exploiters from using the same methods.

Considering many of the hacks we’re talking about have been in-game two years, it’s safe to say Anet’s doing absolutely nothing.

I still maintain that while it may appear nothing is being done, I would suspect things are being done on the back side that we have no knowledge about. Either way there is ZERO evidence to support either claim, and both are a matter of opinion. While some may claim that those hackers are still in operation is evidence that no action, or process, is being taken, on the flip side one could point out that bots and gold sellers (which are a different form of hacking) are being stopped in droves as evidence that something IS being done.

Lore of the Waypoints

in Lore

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

If I remember right, Logan had a conversation with Taimi after the Marionette fight that mentioned waypoints. I can’t seem to find the conversation on the wiki, but Logan was trying to get Taimi back to Rata Sum, and Taimi said something like, “Are you going to pay for the waypoint back?” Logan replies with something like, “There goes my next paycheck.”

So, moral of the story, waypoints might have been implied to be expensive lore-wise. This, combined with the “you can only use waypoints you have actually came across” rule, makes it so that the population of Tyria can’t teleport around willy-nilly.

The small fee that players pay could probably be filed under “game mechanic/gold sink”.

Thats kind of what I understood as well. In the books, and lorewise there is also a rather large fee for using gates, but the players don’t. Thats why you see many of the escort type DEs for supplies and merchants. It’s cheaper to travel by land, although more dangerous and timely. It’s just not worth it for a mechant, or supplier, to take a gate.

airship pass and logging out

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

pdavis.8031

Although I like the idea, from what I understand is that the Airship is an instance. As it is now you con’t log back into an instance. The same mechanic works for dungeons. If you are in a dungeon, and log out, you don’t start back in the dungeon. Otherwise would have people playing through a dungeon, killing the end boss, then logging out. Wait a day, log in at the end boss again, kill the boss, collect reward, log out. Repeat for infinite rewards and a permenantly skippable dungeon path. For those with several alts, all they would need to do is park them at the end bosses of each path in Arah, kill and log out, and earn massive amounts of gold. Something like this would be greatly abused. Now they could make an exemption for the Airship, but it seems like it would be too much work just to avoid a couple of loading screens.

Pff, like a net or ncsoft wanna drop money into that LOL

We all know where ncsoft is putting its money, its time you wake up and smell the coffee.

Edit: terrible spelling.

Right, because Anet hiring more people, pushing out new content and expanding their territory, all for GW2, means that the money is all going elsewhere, and NCSoft isn’t giving anything back to Anet for GW2. Because that makes sense….

It makes perfect sense to NCSoft. Their goal is profit. Not to make a great game.

Actually it is in their best interest to make a great game. Take Squaresoft for example. They were failing, and released Final Fantasy as a last ditch effort before closing their doors. Of course it was a great game, and brought Squaresoft out of the hole, and into almost world wide recognition. Any company, if they want to stay in business, needs to produce a good quality product. If they can’t or won’t produce a good quality product, people will migrate to their competitors, and their profit margin will drop, and if it drops enough, it will put them out of business.

That is completely false.

A company needs to produce a better selling product, not a better product. (Was told this by an engineer years ago. Thought he was exaggerating at the time. But I learned in the business that he was spot on.)

Here are some examples of how quality effects profits (http://smallbusiness.chron.com/four-ways-quality-can-affect-company-21930.html)

I have yet to seen any examples or information that states that a poor quality product doesn’t have a negative impact on sales and profit. However, in an attempt to steer this back on topic, it’s not the product itself that is bad/poor quality. As this game is a computer program, there is not a single computer system/program that is 100% invulnverable to attacks. So while hackers/cheaters are going to exploit those weaknesses, it’s really up to customer service (admins, devs, etc.) to deal with those. Although I have seen and received great customer service from Anet in the past, it would appear that, concerning this issue, there is only so much that they CAN do. Of course any changes made to security in these regards won’t be publically announced on the game change forums, but rather stealth patches that are pushed with regular updates.

So while it may seem that no one cares, or no one is taking heed, or not watching, as serious as Anet seems to be about cracking down on AU sellers, and automatons, one would reasonably expect them to respond in the same manner about these types of accounts.

No, your understanding of pay to win is flawed. In what pay to win game are you required to do anything?

Pay to Win means “Paying for a competitive advantage to winning the game”. This is an advantage not available to non-paying players. Your understanding of what “P2W” is inherently flawed, because nothing in GW2 falls in this category.

There is a competitive advantage in PVE? Tell me, in PVE WHO are you competing against? Pay to Win was derived from a player being able to pay to win the GAME. And though this, pay to win term, is largely metaphorical it was meant to describe the ability for a player to pay to get to the end achievement of the game. And as I stated previously, since gw2 does not have a gear/stat treadmill, the carrot on the stick is “skins”. Being able to purchase skins, therefor, makes it pay to win.

So you’re saying that skins are the ultimate “end-game” (which offer no competitive edge whatsoever), and that being able to buy them makes this game pay-to-win? If skin collection is the whole of the game, then PvE, PvP, and WvW doesn’t matter. And thus, by that logic, those game modes only serve as a way to get skins, which can be bypassed with a valid credit card.

If skins are your end-game, you might want to look into doing someting else. MMOs in general aren’t about the end game, it’s about the journey your character takes in an ever changing and interactive world. It’s about the story and the game play. It’s basically a 3D computerized version of a table top RPG.

New way to grind Dragonite?

Is there a way of playing WITHOUT grinding dragonite?

Yes, don’t do world bosses, take keeps in EotM, or open chests in Dry Top. And you’ll have no problem not getting Dragonite. Plus it’s only really used for Ascended crafting, and while weapons may be the better than exotics, the armor isn’t much better and really only NEEDED (and not even then) for high level fractals.

As a casual player I didnt see the price of silk an extreme challenge when crafting my ascended armor. Although I farmed most of it by running dungeons amd salvaging, and kill mobs that had a high rate of drops for silk. Same with the other mats I needed. The only thing that makes it difficult for casual players is their lack of patience. I understood that it would take time, lots of it. I played a few hours a day at most and it took about 3 months for me to complete the set. If more casual players actually thought like this, that it will take time to get the shinies that they want and if it takes too long for them, then they can use their moms credit card and go from there, then there will be far less threads like this. Threads that claim the more “hardcore” ways of playing are ruining the game.

Guild wars comes from the series of human wars called “the guild wars”.

There is more circumstantial evidence that points to the opposite conclusion: the game was made with GvG as a core foundational element and the lore was made to coincide. Certainly it makes much more sense this way round to explain the name.

inb4 “anet confirmed name comes from lore!!” — of course they did, 2 years in and they don’t have a pvp offering worth mentioning it’s no wonder they’d like to sweep the GW1 GvG legacy under the rug.

While that may be the case, it doesn’t really matter how the name came about. They could have called the game “Legendary guild death match of awesomeness”. While it certainly is an awesome name, “Guild Wars” has a much better sound to it. Even if they did have GvG in mind as a core part of the game, they created the lore, and named it “Guild Wars” in reference to the series of wars in lore called “The Guild wars”, or created the lore around the name “Guild Wars”, in reference to GvG. But thats not the point I was trying to make. The point is that the name is derived from lore, or the lore derived from the name, doesn’t mean that in GW 2 has to have anything to do with GvG. It’s a continuation of the story, and the lore that was presented in GW1.

If we don’t see them on the forums when the game is sinking to crisis point then we certainly aren’t going to see any in-game. It’s pretty obvious Anets staffing is spread very thin, Even more evidence they couldn’t give a monkeys about this game.

The game isnt sinking to a crisis point. The new numbers for the chine release show 3.8 million new accounts, with 7 million dollars in revenue. The game is just doing terrible!!

@all the others

Im definitely not new, I just dont see the devs, the suppprt team, and everything as horrible and sucking at their jobs like its strongly implied. I’ve recieved wonderful support from the devs, and the support team. I refuse to believe that the game is so far broken, and that a multi million dollar business is doing such a terrible job that issues such as this are ignored. Bots and gold sellers are banned in droves. Just because a FEW hackers havent YET doesnt mean that anet isnt doing anything. It would seem that they are of a lower priority. Besides, how long ago were they reported? Days, weeks, maybe a couple of months at most? There is no way to tell how many out of the millions of players are submitting support tickets. With that many players you could reasonably expect to see THOUSANDS of tickets a day. Yours just may be lower on the queue.

Guild wars comes from the series of human wars called “the guild wars”. If you dont want to run the inexperienced pugs, dont start an lfg, and gather guildies before hand. Its pretty simple really. Challenging PvE in the form of mega bosses? you already got that with Teq, and the three headed jungle wurm. Yes you do need to show up because it requires coordination and planning, and not something everyone can do casually. However if they were to add more such content, itd still be a mindless zerg fest with people just pressing 1, as you say, because anything that requires more than that requires you be there early to plan and coordinate.

There are lots of things you can do as a guild aside from guild mission. Maybe you can come up with guild activities that can be challenging and fun. Like a scavenger hunt, or something. The game isn’t responsible for making you have fun, if you dont find it fun, maybe its time to move on?

RIGHT!?

This actually kinda makes me happy. Grats Anet!! But I can see it as a slap in the face to all the haters who say the game is dying and people are leaving. Thats one major reason they have for the implementation of megaservers, because the game doesn’t have the population to support seperate servers. Oh yeah, also that Anet is losing money because Q3-4 2013 showed total sales were down. Still high in the black, and certainly not up to the level of launch. But 7 million dollars kinda puts that theory out to rest. :P

A lot of the doomsayers really haven’t EVER had a leg to stand on, and I think deep down everyone knew that, even the doomsayers. The financial aspect of the game has always been pretty strong right from release (the game has never at any point been in the red, though there was a moment of concern early on).

But let’s also acknowledge the flipside; just because GW2 has been a success financially doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the greatest game or greatest MMO or even the greatest GW game ever. There’s definitely a lot of people for whom the game just isn’t what they are looking for. And that’s fine. There’s a lot of games out there that are. You don’t have to like GW2 to tip your cap and say, “Hey, not my cup of tea, but congratulations.”

But what it DOES mean is that GW2 clearly appeals to enough people that it has turned a nice profit for the people who make and publish the game. The only people who would earnestly HATE that news are people who wanted to see the game fail for selfish reasons.

Pretty much

Although I found this is one of the best MMOs I’ve played. However I get that it may not be for everybody and thats ok

if you need a different answer, it’s “nothing”

as they have said, in anets eyes it is working as intended.

Working as intended? Only a fool would not see the impending economic disaster this will soon be (should it continue on this trajectory).

Be careful of who you call a fool, especially when you’re the one who doesn’t understand that the Gem Exchange is working as intended. What’s going on is not an economic problem, but rather your own personal one. To resolve this issue, simply purchase Gems with your creditcard, and the exchange rate no longer matters.

Edit – To add to what Zil mentioned, the ratios will self correct, as when it becomes too expensive for players to exchange Gold for Gems, it becomes very attractive for players who want to exchange their Gems for Gold.

Yes and when it is 100g for 1 gem and say a few hundred players decide to cash in w/their credit cards and go on a shopping spree on the BL what then, dear Penguin?

So a few hundred, out of millions, decide to spend a lot of money on gems and convert them to a lot of gold, and buy a bunch of stuff on the TP? Well, what they buy on the TP will make other people rich, but won’t really effect much of anything. The prices aren’t going to suddenly and dramatically increase. Even if they are listed for a ridiculous amount, they aren’t going to sell because the rest of the millions of players aren’t going to be willing to pay a stupid amount for it. And if enough people are buying so much so quickly, all that influx of gold will eventually go away due to the TP tax, so it’s not really a problem.

Oh yeah, also that Anet is losing money because Q3-4 2013 showed total sales were down. Still high in the black, and certainly not up to the level of launch. But 7 million dollars kinda puts that theory out to rest. :P

Why no mods?

Pff, like a net or ncsoft wanna drop money into that LOL

We all know where ncsoft is putting its money, its time you wake up and smell the coffee.

Edit: terrible spelling.

Right, because Anet hiring more people, pushing out new content and expanding their territory, all for GW2, means that the money is all going elsewhere, and NCSoft isn’t giving anything back to Anet for GW2. Because that makes sense….

@OP

Can you give a specific example of someone using a hack or cheat? Not the methods used, but the effects of the hack? Just because they appear to be doing something that makes them “win” doesn’t mean they are hackers. In PvP and WvW is really the only place where one would use such things anyway. In PvE it doesn’t really matter. There are also glitches and using those to ones advantage isn’t a hack, or a cheat per se, but it is cheap nonetheless.

And I have to side with Lordkrall on this. I’ve seen ANET tags turn off before going into certain areas, and turn on in potentially hostile situations. Heck I’ve run dungeons with Anet tags, who shut them off before the rest of the PUG showed up. They were quick to calm people down when they started getting kittenish because of a wipe. Just because they don’t announce themselves as a moderator doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I am sure many play strictly incognito just for that very purpose.

But whatever, believe what you want about the support system, and moderators, and how evil Anet is, and how the game is basically dead.

Lore of the Waypoints

Having an interesting discussion about waypoints and how they fit into lore. I’ve been able to find VERY few things about them. Only that they are Asuran and they are everywhere. Just wanted to hear the Lore communities thoughts.

My comments on the matter:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Technician_Penn

I also found this in an interview with Angel McCoy:
Esprits d’Orr : Should waypoints be considered from a roleplay perspective? If so, how do they function?

Angel McCoy : Absolutely! Waypoints are asuran devices, and all the money you spend to use them goes straight into the coffers at Rata Sum. The asura have been developing these magi-matter-transportive devices for centuries and have seeded them across the world. They’re often contested if creatures or bad guys disrupt the traffic coming through them, but the asura work hard to maintain this money-making web of mini-gates. The fee, in case you wondered, is automatically separated from your person and transported directly into a guarded room in Rata Sum. The coins drop in and pile up there, and workers put them in carts and carry them to the vaults.

I haven’t had too much difficulty running it Ubuntu 13.10?. I was using Play on linux as the front end for wine, and didn’t have over heating, or slow issues. But I did have a wierd graphic anomoly, kinda like a “fog of war” look to it. But other than that I was getting better frame rates than in windows (was dual booting ubuntu)

I alos really like this game. I’ve tried to get into other MMOs but just couldn’t I love the natrual progession and organic feel that this offers. I don’t need to spend money to get BiS, or spend a stupid amount of time killing 15,000 sewer rats to complete a quest. It’s fantastic!! Love it!! Keep it up!!

If you don’t think there is any lore, or that the existing lore changes on a whim, just talk to Konig in the Lore sub-forum. You can pretty find his work in almost every thread. He is considered to be one of the player “lore masters” by many. I’m actually surprised he hasn’t shown up yet in this thread…

If you are concerned about your addiction that is a good sign. However, just speaking generally about the issue of addiction, might help others who are in such a situation be able to find help. But rest assured there IS help out there if it’s become too much of a problem and health, relationships, and work are being effected.

Check out this site: http://www.video-game-addiction.org/video-game-addiction-treatment.html. It offers some great advice and what to watch out for if you fear you are becoming addicted.

Save GW2: turn WxWxW in GxGxG.

in WvW

pdavis.8031

Friends, this is not a “debate”. It is only a kind of “outburst” to wake up devs.

“Megaserver” is just a pun for “Mergeservers”.
You know that the population of GW2 is falling instead of rising.

Ok, if GW2 is a game of few and still is a blessing for some, fine.

It’s been my experience that the server in each bracket with the highest WvW population wins. There is very little real doubt about who is going to win week to week, or each bracket of the tourney’s. Five defenders have no chance of stopping a 20+ man zerg. Servers are buying and selling guilds in order to “load” their server with overwhelming odds. Servers that have lower WvW populations are giving up. People who might otherwise compete either “join the bandwagon”, or find other content, or quit rather than become bags in an unequal “competition”.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/WvW-Population-Balance

Again with the population of the game. There is no proof one way or another that the game is losing players. Period. Also using anothers person OPINION of server populations and WvW isn’t proof. Yes, while some guilds MAY transfer servers for WvW, just means that WvW is still very alive and active, and not dying at all. “Most” players only really encompasses the players that you see when YOU are online. I don’t do much WvW, but everytime I log in and see what people are doing, most of the time the answer is “WvW”. Everytime I’ve jumped in to WvW, even during non peak hours, and my server wasn’t doing that well, I’ve only gotten the “Out numbered” buff a couple of times. It may just be the server you are on, but that certainly doesn’t include “MOST” players, or even a small fraction of players.

Killing WvW because you don’t like it for whatever reason, in favor of GvG, is certainly not a solution. If you want to GvG, Join sPvP with your guildies. Or bring your guild into WvW and do things apart from the “Zerg”. defend points, cause havoc, etc.

Enter in you Credit Card information into the gem store, buy gems, convert to gold, buy precurser of your choice.

No matter how many hours you’ve played, how many alts you have, how much MF you have, how much farming/forging you do this is ALWAYS be the best way to get one. 100% drop rate.

Better hurry before this gets nerfed. Good luck!!

Why have the gods become inactive?

in Lore

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

Well maybe they left for an entirely different reason? As humans progressed, and began discovering technology and advancing, they became less dependant on the gods, and in time the gods just became old stories and legends and myths. Humans eventually stopped believing in the gods, so not being wanted anymore they just left.
Still the general idea of the gods still remains, but more out of tradition than anything. How many humans are still devout followers of the gods? The names are more used as oaths and curses than anything.

At least thats how I see thats why the gods left.

i just got an infraction for one of my posts on this topic. now someone please explain to me how am i to actually get help or find a solution?

You can report such people in game for griefing, or violations. You can also submit a ticket here for in game violations, and present your case there.

Although I do agree with Anets policy about accusing players on the forums for griefing, trolling, etc. (because it would be widely abused by griefers and trolls….ironic huh?) I do think there needs to be a better system to report such things. However submit a report, and just report when it happens, taking screen shots of the names for YOUR use and when filing a report. I believe that Anet does take such things seriously, and while they may not tell you what actions they took, they will do something.

Also such things would be at the very end of a long list of things they “need” to add. Precursor crafting, new legendaries, nerfing OP warrior into the ground, more dungeons, easier dungeon paths, “fixing” the “broken” economy, and nerfing combat, the TP, gold and minis.

The only issues ive had with random people kicking others is because the kicker thought things should be done a certain way and was expecting an experienced zerker groups in my “any welcome” LFG. However there are numerous reports about being kicked at the end for guildies/friends to join in and collect the spoils. I would think that if griefers are going to grief, a 1 min timer isnt going to stop them. They’ll still kick after the 1 minute is up. I would suggest , maybe having the final confirmation of the kick be to the party leader (the one who started the LFG) Of course you’ll still have the issue of people kicking just to be kittens and trying to kick at the end.

No, the gods left Tyria because the cries of “ZERK only or GTFO!!!!11” became too loud for them to bear. They got fed up with zerg parties mindlessly running around, and people complaing that the economy is broken and rampant inflation is taking over.

I have to agree with Maha. (I know right!?) If you are creating your own LFG it isn’t even an issue. I rarely run Arah anyway, but just because someone is selling a path doesn’t mean anyone HAS to buy it. People who are impatient, don’t want to run it, etc. are willing to pay, and they get what they paid for, and the seller gets his money. It’s a win-win.

As far as being in a big guild, I don’t see what that has to do with anything. They generally are doing it solo up until the end. So being in any size guild isn’t really a factor.

@ Evon Skyfyre

Also, if season 1 was as bad as everyone says, why would you want to go back and replay it? But as it’s been said several times already, season 1 is not available, and we don’t even know IF it will be available. If it does become available, I could see them following the same model as season 2, if you were there, you unlock it for free. All they need to do is check your achievments. But if you weren’t there for it to begin with, charging 200 gems ($2.50 USD) per episode would not be out of line. New players won’t think of it as “unfair” that they didn’t get it for free. My wife, being a new player, certainly doesn’t feel like she “deserves” anything because she started playing AFTER season 1. Either way, I am beginning to think you are trolling by throwing out a “concern” that doesn’t even exist, and may never exist.

Just last night had 2 level 61s in AC, and one guy wanted to kick them, or have them switch to 80s. I told him no, and he ended up leaving. But yeah, thats the big problem with pugs. It’s a gamble at best, sometime you win, other times you get kicked.
