Trinity in this game existed the moment they introduced hp and armour value differences between classes.

Why do you see so many warrior and guardians in WvW and dungeon groups, because they have the best survivability and ability to be the most tanky.

So they created tanks, and dps. Healing got kicked out the window. Instead everyone can rez.

A solid healer would make for much better gameplay and better group tactics. Doac easily had the best RvR and tactical gameplay.

Anyone running D/D fresh air builds?

Actually I disagree on many points here.

I’ve been running d/d fresh air for the last month with great results in WvW. The damage bursts are huge and you get great sustain with dagger 1. S/d was more burst, but there was a downtime in damage, and if your foe has the ability to go invis you lose dps. With d/d you can keep that going with dagger 1 spam.

Saying that, i am now back to d/d 0,0,2,6,6 after the patch. It is just so much more survivable against greater odds. The d/d fresh air spec was amazing at 1v1 when played right, but not great when the fight became 2v1. Also d/d really puts you in the thick of things.

What’s truly pathetic about Baruch is you’re settling for second place. You’re happy to be seafarers toady instead of trying to win.

No matter what happens in Deso or what our reputation is we always go for the win. For us second place is a loss ,where as you’re content with sitting at the right hand of SF letting it ruffle your hair.

No one thought that because they didn’t realise Baruch would be suckling at SFs teat which is the only reason they get a sniff at being above deso.

When there was no SF in the picture they were soundly beaten by a huge margin despite having bigger numbers than Deso and they know it.

Also, the test ai mobs are hitting really hard since the patch. Their downed state throws hit for 2k!

Or was an increase in their damage meant to happen?

Don’t you think it’s a bit odd that since the patch multiple people have come out and said ’ I’ve been hit by this illusion/hammer for 8k+damage all of a sudden’ ? The fact this wasn’t happening before the patch shows that maybe…maybe something changed?

Also what are the chances that each person who was hit happened to have 10 unique conditions, 25 stacks of vulnerability and the mesmer casting had achieved 25 stacks of might? Even then it shouldn’t be hitting for that much no matter how you calculate it.

A bit is an understatement. My churning earths don’t hit for that much in pvp.

This does appear to be a new thing.

I was hit by an iwarlock for 8k a few days ago in pvp. I’ve never been hit for 8k by any phantasm pre patch. I only had a couple of conditions on me at most.

It would seem Ai damage appears to have gone nuts.

I was pretty shocked to get hit by an iwarlock for 8k, and I was running celestial trinks. I never ever used to get hit by phantasms that hard pre-patch. They must have upped the damage hugely.

Thief requires serious redesign.

Wow, the stupidity in this thread. Any mention of thieves brings out the same thief players who fail to read the whole post.

The thing is with thieves you can’t kite or wait out abilities or dodge big abilities like you can other classes making the fight a game of chess. Initiative means you can just throw out abilities multiple times until you connect, and if you don’t connect ,port away and come back in when the guy has everything on cooldown.

I played a thief for 6 months, lowest risk class in the game.

I agree on these

Stone heart is good, but i’ve stopped using that setup.

Aquatic benevolence is good, but mostly in zergs.

Others are pretty useless.

The biggest thing this patch did for eles is the new runes and sigils have given us alot of burst damage. Overall i’m happy with the changes

Dude, stone heart is so good.

Thieves/big burst just isnt an issue now, and this was in WvW. My survival is so much better.

ANd in spvp I went celest trinks + healing gear and could easily hold points 1v1 against anything. 2v1 was a slow death, but slow being the operative word.

Just let go of evasive arcana….

Well you could go 0,0,10,30,30 with new healing sigils + runes.

and have 2 eles at each point just sustaining eachother whilst raining down aoes.

I don’t think they’ll be good at killing anyone, but really good at just not dieing.

It’s sad that the pvp nerfs when applied to WvW are so utterly magnified.

Eles are the primary target in a fight, everyone knows you’ll have low armour and hps compared to everyone else so why not go for you. Yet it’s not like we can counter with massive burst.

The original ele sustain was designed for a class with low armour and low health. You removed that and what’s left?

At least I can kite a warrior to a degree.

Heartseekers which hit for 4-5k and are spammable with a lovely attached gap closer make it a little unfair.

Funny that the first kill in that video is against a D/P thief when he’s just got D/. Actually, rewatching the video, most of his kills are against thieves.

What this tells me is that this player outdoes his opponents via the merits of the player, moreso than his class. The video isn’t very useful for showcasing balance, unless you’re trying to argue that no-offhand thief is better than other thief builds.

Actually the video showcases how strong stealth is and how initiative just doesn’t work. It allows for far to much spamming of high damage abilities.

Not really, that answer is completely illogical. It implies no matter the skill of the thief, if you play your class well, you’ll always win.

I played a thief, it’s the best roaming class in the game, stealth is just so strong and confers so many benefits to the user.

Now the guy is a very good player, but really, it shows when used well stealth (and everything that comes with it) is just insanely strong. A thief in the right hands far outshines other professions due to its mechanics.

So after looking at possible condition builds to work in conjunction with the new trait changes with the stat builder at 2k condi damage Drake’s breath comes out as about 20k damage, burning 6 1/2 seconds.

Now can someone explain to me how the 20k number will actually occur. Because i’m pretty sure it’ll give about a 900 a tick burn, so how is the 20k relevant?

Also to have a much better chance at avoiding damage, constantly turn your character around. They get double damage with Backstab if they hit your back. So try to get hit in the front if they hit you.

Yup, just remember to get hit in the front by that invisible player.

Better advice is when they stealth strafe at a 45 degree angle backwards. Backstab should actually be called ‘Side and backstab’ as the angle which you have to hit to get it is basically a 160 degree arc behind you. Don’t turn your character around as this infact makes it easier to hit you in the zone.

Nono! I stand down on this, you’re clearly right.

Frostbow 5 is just far too strong, they should make basilisk venom a 5 second stun as well, because i’m sick and tired of all these frostbow elementalists I see all over the place owning faces.

I can’t count the number of times I venture out and get Fb5’d to the face and burst down, it’s just such a common occurence.

You mean the Frostbow 5 skill with a 1 1/2 sec cast time which misses 9/10 times.

No one, and I mean no one bases an attack sequence reliant on Fb 5. If you find it to be an issue i suggest you walk sideways to avoid it. Yes, you don’t even have to dodge, just walk sideways and it’ll miss you.

Elementalist is extremely fun to play, but is the most skill reliant and unforgiving class in the game.

I do well in WvW and can generally hold my own. The big frustration is generally being insta gibbed by thieves.

You’ll be fighting some other guy and some thief will steal/c+d/mug then backstab you for 100 percent of your health and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I can’t go back to playing anything else now and I played a thief for a year, and had zero issues killing elementalists of all types. Thief is easymode on easymode compared to playing an ele.

Immobilise changes needed.

It’s such a disabling condition. And it stacks.

Either make it the priority condition cleared by condi clears or make stun breakers clear it as well. It’s just a completely frustrating condition to be hit with.

I’d like to add to this, engis and eles really are getting shafted with the stacking signet changes.

We’re the only two classes who won’t get to stack without giving up a slot.

The issue is. they go stealth, and there’s no counter play. I can blow cooldowns/dodges trying to avoid the incoming damage, but they just stealth again if they don’t get the attack resetting the fight in their favour and your manouveres achieved nothing.

To people who say ‘You can predict where they are in stealth!’. Don’t, I mained a thief for a year, and if you’re any good on one your oponent has no idea where you are.

Stealth should break on attack.

If I put up arcane shield on my mesmer, it will absorb all three attacks without the thief breaking stealth.

Why call it stealth when in fact it’s just unbreakable invisibility. It confers such massive advantages and damage increases yet has absolutely no trade offs.
