Just wondering, as many games with dual wielding do this, does an offhand weapon hand it’s full attack and stat bonus, or is there a modifier for it being in the off hand, rather than main hand?
put the kittens away, please guys. I’m just after advice, I didn’t want to trigger an argument
If it helps, as a nub I will mainly be focusing on PvE, rather than PvP
I am loving ranger, but I’m very indecisive about my equipped secondary (melee) weapon. I use a longbow main and want a melee option for reflects. I enjoy the horn’s might/fury/swiftness and the attack speed of the sword, but the sword skills are very fiddly (have tossed myself off a few cliffs with 2, and 3 rarely lands on it’s target)
Any recommendations?
it’s a thematic/stats thing.
Prety sure heavy armour gets more in the way of defensive stats, cloth in offensive, and leather in the middle ground.
And also, can you imagine a thief in heavy armour? Wouldn’t exactly be very stealthy and agile.
We are not talking about stats, just skins.
Ceremonial Plated Outfit on thief = heavy looking thief. Buy it, wear it.
Heavy armor warrior is way better than thief when it comes to running away, anyone who stepped in WvW can tell you that much.
And also, can you imagine a bow shooting rainbow ponies?
Ah, just talking aesthetics, then I would very much like this.
My ranger’s armour looks dopey as heck, and I’d like to be able to do more than just cover it up with a ninja outfit. I’d very much love to have access to the other armour types for aesthetics.
Sorry, misunderstanding on my part, I thought you meant actually equipped different armour classes at once.

I’m hoping this is a bug, as it really is quite irritating
The moral of the story is: Gambling is bad. I’ve never come across a gambling system in an MMO that isn’t heavily weighted in the house’s favour
But didn’t we used to get look from corpses in Story quests? Is this a glitch or is this working as intended?
looting corpses was too complicated for new players.
GW1 is amazingly great. Such a pity that GW2’s release annihilated the server population.
Still great to play as a single play though, my favourite is Prophecies for story
if this is still an active thing, would love an invite to the guild, please.
Still, dropping “Lv 80 only” is out of question because below level 80 it’s likely you are missing essential skills and/or traits for your planned playstyle.
Why is enabling people to play dungeons of their level range out of the question?
I should not have to be level 80 to run level 35/50 dungeons, plain and simple
Why would you want someone in your party that is a low level? They can’t use skills or traits.
this is the attitude I want to change.
wow that is a huge ripoff of the gw2 personal assistant http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2drawa/introducing_the_gw2_personal_assistant_overlay/
Except there’s about 20 different event timers for GW2 and overwolf have been doing that for a long time
I can almost never get a dungeon party in lfg, due to “lvl 80, zerk, 5k AP” requirements.
This is a massive turn off to me as a newbie for doing one of the majorly fun aspects of MMO’s that I enjoy (Dungeons).
With this in mind, I’d like to propose a dungeon mentoring system, wherein a level 80 character can accompany a level X character (relative to the dungeon) and obtain various rewards for assisting the lower levelled players in getting their daily chests. Perhaps introduce a “mentor point” system, where 80’s can obtain points, similar to the karma system, to redeem for unique rewards
I feel a system like this would help introduce players to dungeons better, and allow new players to actually get in to dungeons without belonging to a guild, rather than the persistent demand for 80’s only.
Consumable items are too complex for new players.
(and come on, why would someone who’s never played an MMO before throw £50 at guild wars 2?)
GW2 is buy to play, people 100% brand new to the MMO genre are most likely not going to buy GW2 to experience their first MMO -
Because it’s free to play? opposed to other subscription based games which people are moving away from.
Your comment about “GW2 is buy to play, people 100% brand new to the MMO genre are most likely not going to buy GW2 to experience their first MMO”
Doesn’t really make sense since lots of player pick it up as their first MMO, it was even the fastest selling MMO and lots of the player base was new
It’s buy to play, not free to play.
There are hundreds of actual F2P MMO’s on the market right now, wherein one can experience an MMORPG without paying out of pocket first.
And for sure, when the game was brand spanking new and advertised absolutely everywhere as the holy grail of MMO’s, I’d imagine a lot of people new to the genre got sucked in to the hype, however at this moment in time, there’s very little actual advertising of GW, and it’s carried by reviews and word-of-mouth.
As it stands, I would not recommend GW2 to someone brand new to the genre unless they were doing a free trial. I would recommend them one of the perfect world/similar games so they can get a firm grasp of MMORPG’s, their systems and their structures and then, when they knew a bit more about what was happening, I’d suggest to them “oh hey, come check out GW2 if you have some spare cash”
Anyway, being a part of these forums is certainly like fighting a war. lol
Only when you attempt to force your narrow opinion on everyone and ignore all who disagree.
Anyway, on topic. As a new player to GW2 (but not to MMO’s) I dislike how generic and boring the levelling system (and low level maps) now are.
It takes half an hour or so for most people to solidify their first impression of a game, and that first half an hour in GW2 is now massively restrictive and pretty much the same as most MMO’s out there now.
This new system I could see as being beneficial to someone who has literally never played a PC RPG/MMORPG before, but that’s about it (and come on, why would someone who’s never played an MMO before throw £50 at guild wars 2?)
Unless they are planning to implement some sort of permanent free trial (akin to WoW) or drastically increase the frequency of their trail weekends, I just can’t see these changes as a step in the correct direction, myself.
GW2 is buy to play, people 100% brand new to the MMO genre are most likely not going to buy GW2 to experience their first MMO – GW2’s new player experience should be geared towards people with experience in playing MMO’s, and instead of hand-holding you through basic features should offer more in-depth explanations and tutorials of advanced features (as of the time of typing this, the only in-game explanation of combos is a 1 sentence pop up when you reach roughly level 50 or so)
Well, the mail sent to you by Tybalt when joining the OoW actually suggests you beat it to keep it from falling in to the wrong hands
Proxy currencies are here to stay. It allows companies to simplify their cash shop to world currencies if everything in there is listed with proxy Vs multiple world currencies.
Also by prepackaging proxy amounts it forces the player to buy more than they want and either buy more and get additional items from the shop or convert the remainder to gold thus helping the gold to gem rates. So few seem to hold onto the remainder so they don’t need to convert or buy as much for the next time.
There’s also the legal safety net of companies declaring that their cash shop currency has 0 real world value, which would be thrown out completely by introducing direct cash trading
I totally forgot about that reddit post I made. checked back and 88% approval with 485 upvotes O.O
Surprised, but now more confident that my opinion is shared by a larger audience than some people would like to believe
I just
I
wha..
What the kitten did I just watch and why?
That is really awesome. Might I ask where I need to be to experience the original version in game for comparison’s sake?
I think I saw this in another post: try going to one of the main cities (DR, etc) and talk to the trainer there. That fixed it for the previous poster.
That remedied my issue, guess the starting zone trait npc’s are locked out, and the wording on them is poor
Thank you very much.
What I’m trying to do is turn the shadow assassin outfit from it’s original bluish colour to an actual black, So I guess it’s mostly cloth, but with metal pauldrons?
Abyss looks to be exactly what I’m after, but the current market value of 63 gold is waaaaaaay out of my price range
I have learned over the course of a few weeks to not to bother to engage with Vayne on any level as you will be dismissed unless you agree with him/her.
Why people who have been using this forum for much, much longer than me haven’t learned this valuable and forum experience enhancing lesson, I don’t know.
it’s a bug that’s been reported by a lot of people. to get around it, save your ps until the affected level, as the PS seems to be the only thing that gives the correct amount of exp during the level that is bugged.
After you level past it, it’s all back to normal
I’m 53 and I “need a little more experience” before the trait npc will “help me”
sadness
anyone know what level I need to be to access the NPC?
I got a seiege commander’s spoon, but can’t do anything with it
My god, all the feels. Even feeling sadness for kattaka, an npc I’d never met before and is all of a 10 second sideline for one of my PS missions.
Why do you murder my emotions, ANet?
Now to grind 7 more levels
AND kitten YOU FOR MURDERING MY TYBALT, JERKS ;~;
It’s a way to freely obtain large quantities of cash shop items for minimal effort. Some guildies have told me they farmed 20 keys a day for a while.
That’s a net loss of massive profit for ANet when you consider key gem costs, and the sheer number of people that “key farm”
thanks guys good to know about the toggling, too
I’m starting to encounter mobs that use reflect damage skills, so would like to be able to stop my character auto attacking when necessary, without facing him away from the enemy I’m attacking to do so.
Up until now, I’ve pretty much exclusively used my jungle stalker pet, but I got asked during an AC run if I had a bear to use for tanking, which got me thinking: What pets are best suited for what situations? I have one pet of every family now (feline, canine, bird, spider, bear, porcine)
and as well as the different uses for each pet, do the different pets within each family have good strengths? (for example, what is the difference between a stalker and a jaguar?)
midnight fire
after previewing that, it comes out quite reddish
that opens up a very smelly legal can of worms, which I’d imagine most MMO’s in the world would want to avoid.
Can you imagine the sheer drama that would explode if a hacked account racked up someone’s credit card bill by a few thousand?
So, black dye is insanely expensive, and I’m a poor simple nublet with little expendable income.
What is a good cheap dye that will get me pretty darn close to a black colour?
So much sadness ;(
poor tybalt, please say he somehow escaped and it waiting for me in 10 levels time. pleeeaaassseeeeeee
“Toon” originated from WoW, in reference to the cartoonish art style (and characters sometimes being referred to as “cartoons”
I’m boring, I just call my characters characters.
Is it truly a random act of kindness if there’s the motivation of having your name plastered for all to see?
Dervish is my absolute favourite GW1 class by miles. It was
so much fun to play and very satisfying to pvp with. I’d make a dervish in the drop of a hat were they to come to GW2
My mistfire wolf skill is working fine on my ranger that just hit 40 and unlocked elites o.o
From what I understand, Lion’s Arch was destroyed as part of the Living Story.
it seems odd to me, given all the technology of the asura, and the architectural marvels that are the race’s cities, that no rebuilding attempt has been made.
I think it would be a wonderful addition to the living story and to the environment of the game as a whole to have (over the course of several months) Lion’s Arch is varying stages of reparation.
A world as diverse and creative as Tyria should be uniting to restore the symbol of their unity, not just leaving it to rot.
You get skill points in chunks every X levels. You get your first batch at 20, where you will receive 8.
You can still get SP from scrolls of knowledge and skill challenges (after level 10) though
If they don’t get detonated, how long will a necromancer staff glyph stay active for?
I just bought the shadow assassin outfit for now
If a process using few Mb of memory and <0.01 Cpu time on average is causing you a negative impact you might want to consider upgrading your potato.
it’s been widely reported that the new TP is quite slow for a lot of people.
Well, as you might have surmised form my post i’m not one of them. Also saying “I have performance problems because x or y” is worth nothing. Provide logs. Show a screenshot with CoherentUI using excessive cpu or memory. Something, anything other than post backed by vacuum.
“Widely reported (by whom and where?) quite slow (not at all relative or subjective especially without a point of reference) for a lot of people (how many is a lot?)” – You sir would make a perfect politician. Saying almost nothing with many words and all that.
Look at the bug report forum. A passing comment was made from a player seeking an answer, not an extensive bug report requiring logs and data. Why be a pedantic kitten just for the sake of being a pedantic kitten .
I have no problems with the TP either, I’m not a kitten to people that are having problems just because I’m not.
Ah, the typical MMO problem of the girls getting all the cool clothes. boo

I’m English, before anyone gets on to me about Armour, not Armor. >.>
Alrighty. I’m really enjoying my ranger, lots of fun and cool pets to go along with it, however one thing I’m not fond of that seems to be (unless I’m mistaken) a huge trend is the large number of “trench coat and feathered hat with a face mask” armour sets that all look exactly the same.
On my guardian, all the armour sets in the game I obtained as I leveled had their own unique feel and look to them, but all medium armour looks exactly the same (and in my own, personal, opinion doesn’t look very visually appealing). Are there any higher levelled medium armour sets that don’t look like this, or will I have to suffer looking like a tit until I can get skins or an outfit?
