HP's for PoF Elites

HoT release HP amounts caused rage, and if they release PoF with a HP requirement higher than the current, there will also be rage.

Quit for 2 years - bought PoF - CONCERNS

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

rapthorne.7345

ANet have stated that HoT and PoF are independent, there are no HoT mastery requirements (or even HoT mastery bonus content, to my knowledge) in any PoF content.

You will be down in mastery point level (ie, the number shown above your head) but in practical mastery point usage, PoF masteries are totally different to HoT masteries (you can not, for instance, farm HoT mastery points and then spend them on PoF content).

In terms of elite specs, no you will not be at a disadvantage. You can only equip one elite spec at a time, so you can not access greatsword as a weapon or the reaper spec line if you are a scourge and vice-versa, so the only disadvantage you would have in pvp is not having access to reaper as a build yourself

over the top cosmetics are what bring in money in an F2P business model. GW2 has shifted from game sales to gem store sales being their focus. for them to honour their “cosmetic and convenience” only gem store approach, the items in the gem store have to be flashy, visually appealing and make people stand out from non-spenders. this is what gets people to open their wallets in an F2P game where buying your way to the top of WvW/PvP isn’t really an option

Why are melee players punished?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rapthorne.7345

rapthorne.7345

melee players are not punished, but melee players have to be a lot more active in their role to be effective. this is the trade off over range. ranged weapons allow you to sit back and mindlessly button spam for relatively lower dps. melee requires a lot more attention be paid to stay alive, but results in far higher overall dps if you are doing everything as you should be.

I don;t see what the issue is, unless you are treating melee with the same brain-turned-off approach as you can do ranged

Suggestion: Make Multi-Guild Optional

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

rapthorne.7345

I’d like a Guild where friendships form and people level together, do dungeons together and develop into wvw, fractal, raiders and pvpers and keep together. That is all. But if you are in other guilds you will make friendships there to regardless of quality of the guilds. Thus you will spend time criss crossing, and focus split. Some people like that, but even as a player before I even made a Guild I hated that in Guilds in GW2. I am used to other MMOs but I love the other Elements of GW2.

I am active in 3 guilds, I have friends in all of them. do regular events with all of them and am proud to be a part of all of them.

Make your guild welcoming, pleasant to be in and enjoyable to chat to, and friendships will form, content can be done together and your guild will grow with members loyal to it. You don’t need to be the only guild someone is a part of to be a hub for their friendships and interpersonal development, you just need to run a good guild.

If gw2 was launching today..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

rapthorne.7345

Would keep everything about the game as it is, but overhaul the engine for better performance all round. The current game engine is very poorly optimised and it’s performance will only get worse as time goes on.

Other than that, I’d maybe make all gem store items tradable. Would give people more reason to buy gems, stimulate the economy, boost GW2’s revenue and allow free players who are unable to buy gems themselves purchase gem store items from other players

I thought free players could buy gems. They can’t convert gold to gems and can’t buy certain gem store items (like gliders) but they can buy gems with real money.

I mean in terms of people who are unable to afford gem purchases, rather than being restricted from making use of gems.

Having been an unemployed gamer in the past, I know how much it sucks to have so much epicness locked behind a paywall you can’t get around if you enjoy having food and shelter to last you.

So much new tech for the engine

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rapthorne.7345

rapthorne.7345

May I ask what’s in DX11/12 that’s not in DX9 that you think would make a difference?

Far better GPU utilization and multi core support, mainly. When the vast majority of people who game have at minimum a dual core processor with hyperthreading, and pretty much every GPU that’s been manufactured since 2010, integrated or dedicated, has built in support for directx11+, it seems like a very poor decision not to develop these technologies when there’s almost no instances where the end user will not benefit, and a huge amount where the end user will.

I run a modern system (Ryzen 6 core 12 thread, GTX 1070, 16GB ram) and my system’s resources are barely dented by GW2, yet I see terrible frame rates and scene skipping due to how the engine is forced to render objects.

I can play other MMORPGs at much higher latencies than I play GW2 at, and run at 100+ fps maxed out entirely with thousands of objects and millions of particles on display without issue, yet a WvW zerg can have GW2 running at 30fps or lower.

Even if not a DirectX support integration, at the very least there are a vast amount of areas where the game should be optimised for performance where it is clearly lacking.

I love GW2, but bugger me the terrible optimisation and use of resources are jarring

Elonian elite specialization ideas

Elona has been split off from Tyria for 250 years, why not embrace whatever the “new” elona has become, and base the new classes on Elona’s current events, whatever those happen to be.

Partner Program Gem Codes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rapthorne.7345

rapthorne.7345

WP has patreon for people who want to support him directly, and I think that’s a great idea – putting the power (and the money) directly in the hands of the creators. given that gem purchases are done via the in-game clint, and most people that buy gems will do so regardless of whether they watch a content creator or not, I don’t see a good reason to implement this.

having affiliate codes for the expansion is useful for the content creators as don’t forget the base game is now free, so free players might see a WP video/AP stream, and think “kitten yeah, HoT looks kittenloads of fun thanks to this content creator, let’s buy that kitten using this dude’s link”

Is Razer macro for dodge-jump allowed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rapthorne.7345

rapthorne.7345

Here is a hypothetical for you and it’s one that may need to be cleared up with a dev on whether or not it’s allowed.

Arenanet allows for macro’s on the basis of one click one action, therefore you could have a mouse button that would macro to your dodge key. Additionally you are able to set keybinds ingame, if you were to set your secondary jump key to the same mouse button, would that go against terms of service. Specifically, this scenario fulfills requirement 1 of a macro,

“This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.”

As the macro is only programmed to do one action. But it could still be argued that it’s against the ToS as one key press is doing two actions. The wording needs to be a little more clear on Arenanets side.

smartarsery aside, if one key performs multiple fuctions, it’s not allowed, the only exception to this is musical instrument song macroing.

Playing with technicalities is an easy way to get yourself banhammered.

Best rule of thumb: if you have to theorycraft whether it “might” be against the rules, it probably is and just avoid it, for the sake of keeping your account in good standing

Bad FPS on laptop: Will an external SSD help?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: rapthorne.7345

rapthorne.7345

An SSD will have no impact on FPS what so ever unless you are having severe item pop-in issues that lower frame rate, an SSD will improve load times between zones and likely stop any “pop in” objects if you experience them. FPS increases will only be achieved with better hardware, or killing off background processes to free up system resources while you play

GW2 is a very CPU heavy game (relies on CPU for most calculations, rather than efficiently handing off to GPU, this is a major drawback of DX9 engines) and your processor is both very low clock and a low end CPU opverall (only having 2 physical cores with hyperthreading)

The only way you will get any reasonable performance increase is by replacing your laptop. I strongly advise making use of a desktop for gaming purposes as it’s better value for money (you get way more performance from a £500 desktop than you would a £500 laptop). Laptop gaming on low-end laptops tends to lead to severe overheating and can shorten the lifespan of the laptop in general.

Unless you need a laptop for mobility purposes (business on the go, etc), invest in a desktop. Even a low end budget desktop will blast most laptop performance out of the water
