I also met my significant other through a game, and now GW2 is “our” game we use to bond
The developers have always been selective with what they include in the patch notes, it’s a bad habit I hope they can break
Let’s not forget the Black Moa quests in Guild Wars 1.
There’s a nod to that in one of the HoT maps
I don’t think GW2 has lost it’s humour.
Has the story gone a little dark? Absolutely, but the jungle and the HoT storyline are littered with humour and references all over, just as core tyria is
I’ll go ahead and throw in the typical anti-exclusive items proponent response.
“I’m sorry that you want to be a special little snowflake, but I don’t think it’s fair that I should have to do content I don’t like for an item I want, therefore I should be able to get any item from any content, exclusive or not, by playing HOW I WANT! I only like running CoF p1 over and over, but I should still be able to get the legendary fractal backpiece!!!!”
My response to this should be I, as a gem purchaser and content player, should be able to sell on my items for profit if I do not want them rather than have an inventory clogged with items that I can only throw away rather than give/sell to someone who actually wants it.
I’m glad they are tradable, there’s already insane limitations on what can and can not be traded as it is
[POLL] Which is your LEAST fav map in HoT?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: rapthorne.7345
TD by far, it’s so confusing to navigate without many landmarks to get used to the area, especially given how the world map tier system works, it makes navigation incredibly tedious
I doubt it, given that all legends seem to be centred around GW1 characters
So I recently decided to do some under water exploration in core Tyria on my herald, only to find that absolutely none of the glint skills are usable under water, not even the heal. Is this intended and, if so, why?
SShiro’s lines imply that he is displeased with being channeled at first, when he says things like “I demand that you release me.”, but this changes, when he says things such as “I have returned, to fight at your side.” which implies Shiro at first dislikes the Revenant, but eventually gains respect for them, when he sees the proficiency in which they use his power.
In my experience thus far, shiro’s lines are completely random and have no sense of “progression” towards acceptance
I feel it needs at least one weapon that doesn’t feel like it’s designed to be exclusively used with one specific legend
‘’ironhammer is ready to strike’’ is something Jalis is saying once in a while.
they have a few lines of dialogue tied to skills, but we were told in the reveal that the legends would actually converse with you, as in your character would get in a conversation/argument/debate with their legend
When revenant was being revealed, we were told that your channelled legend would converse with you, and different races would get different reactions/conversations. I’ve been using my revenant/herald for several days now and I’ve heard absolutely no interaction between myself and my legends.
is this a bug, or was this aspect of the revenant scrapped?

The dead horse is being beaten once again.
Poor little guy.
It appears that every time you use your glider your pet will switch back to the primary one, even if you have the secondary out. is there any way to fix this?
In my opinion I think they found another way to make money!!! Give us more types of wings please haha I’d like it
People these days will buy ANYTHING. Anet didn’t find another way to make money, it was clearly already there. And they made the wrong decision to use it. Because now everyone and their mom has wings. Just like any cheap mmo out there. Soon, if anet accepts the feedback from this thread, players will be flying around with any random device that can be scrapped on ones back. This may include 10 cm long holo wings, or spinal blades, or even this yolotron talking robot. Can you see where this bullkitten is taking us? Exactely, kid town.
Ah, how I miss Aion. Too grindy to get back in to, though
The holographic wings are just light particles.
The standard wing gliders make sense, as they are physically there and aerodynamically suitable for gliding, the holographic wings? not so much
This is still a big issue for those with less than optimal eyesight
This isn’t a bug, you’re supposed to get Canach’s shield and actively deflect, using the 1 power, the stun grenade back at him. Once you do it enough to disable him you can finish the fight as normal.
No shield drops
can confirm this issue, happened 3 times in a row trying to complete it
And here I thought the Casuals were only 1 %
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: rapthorne.7345
GW2 has been a casual MMO for 3 years, that will not change, even if the devs want it to, and they have only themselves and their design directions to blame for it
Currently the only way to access the canopy in VB, without using a pact chopper near the end of the event cycle, is to use the updrafts on high ground.
I love this idea, but the updrafts are insanely difficult to spot in the clouds, even on low settings. Please consider making updrafts stand out a bit more, or perhaps add togglable map marks that show updraft locations when gliding
The reason for HoT's story being so short

Please remember that ANet specifically stated that we’re going to see progression via a third living world season
How many Hero Points has everyone earned?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: rapthorne.7345
Not many. Due to the timezone I’m in, getting people to help slay the champion hero points has proven almost impossible
Assuming we can use Southsun Cove as an example (as, in regards to Anet creating content that is specifically designed for grind, it is rather similar) the answer is: No.
This ship is sinking and most of the players that loved Guild Wars left a long time ago. The rest of us will be leaving soon as well. I’d say the rats should flee the sinking ship, but Anet has them all hooked up to Skinner Boxes.
That seems overly negative. GW2 is consistently rated as one of the top MMORPG’s in the world and has a good population.
My point was mainly aimed at the natural progression of the player population. Sooner or later people will move on to other maps and the champion hero points are pretty much impossible to solo, as are many of the events in HoT
You chose to engage in third party key trading, it’s not Anet’s problem, and it is actually against their ToS to resell keys and accounts (which remain Anet’s property) unless you are listed as an official retailer with them.
Sylvari only achievement required for meta
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: rapthorne.7345
You can enter the story step with a sylvari lead and get the achievement that way.
HoT is centred around sylvari, the devs gave everyone months of warning that rolling a sylvari for the expansion would be a good idea
Many games now are actually allowing interaction with various game props and scenery, such as interactions with benches to sit on them, beds to sleep in them, and so on.
Interactable scenery would be fantastic for both the RP and casual “sit around and chat a lot” community.
Interactive guild hall decorations would be epic
I have to raise one major point of concern with the expansion:
Once the hype dies and map activity isn’t as high, players seeking to complete HoT content are going to be facing an absolute nightmare unless they can get other people to help them from their guild/friends list. Solo unfriendly events, champions at hero points and poor low population scaling on just about everything will mean people that start HoT in the months and years to follow will be in for an incredibly tough time ahead.
Will anything be done to address this for the sake of the long term health of the HoT content?
Anyone not buying HoT and still playing ?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: rapthorne.7345
While I do have the expansion I will still most definitely be adventuring in core Tyria, both as a mentor for newbies and to work on other Tyrian mastery tracks
You can contact support for a refund, I know a few of my guildies have sadly already refunded their HoT purchases due to all the content gating
I’m enjoying it, but the constant grind gates are a massive tedium, especially for someone like me who works every day and can only get on for a few hours each day.
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: rapthorne.7345
Pretty sure ANet didn’t force you to buy a new rig. If you act on something without knowing the full details, only you are to blame for any regrets to come.
What would the point be in having an elite specialisation if it was just all open and available immediately.
I agree that the pacing of unlocking the elite specs needs some work, as currently you need to have full core map completion and all the hero points on two maps minimum to unlock the full elite spec.
See you after you message support to roll back your account in the next few days.
You know you can just quit the game without deleting everything, unless you genuinely lack any form of self control.
HoT plot discussion and opinions thus far
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

So I absolutely am in shock that they GRRM’d us with Eir. Wow… I am genuinely angry and upset about it, as I really liked her character and I was not expecting them to kill off any of the original DE crew, but now I personally have a motivator to murder the kitten out of Mordremoth
That mordrem Faolain, though
So where do you think we will go from here and what are your thoughts on this particular story direction?
Don’t forget to discuss spoilers with a [spoiler] tag
I say risk it. If it goes wrong, extend the halloween event, doesn’t take much to come to that conclusion
It’s been in need of a nerf since last year. perhaps now we’ll have far less rage at people accidentally killing an ambient creature.
Good on you, ANet
I like how ele and warrior, the two strongest classes in all game modes, are crying that their elite spec isn’t stupidly OP and actually has some level of balance to it.
Why on earth are these skins black lion claims? These should be random finds as drops around the jungle or something, NOT black lion tickets.
I was expecting an epic new weapon set to celebrate HoT with, not this joke weapon set.
Why Anet?
With the condi cap in it’s current state, facing the lich labyrinth boss means having to deal with 50+ bleed stacks when ever he summons skeletons. is there any way this can be addressed?
As to whether we will face a very large patch or simply a small “activation” patch, I do not know. I know the dataminers have been more reserved than usual and patches of late have been much bigger, so it may not necessarily be a case of downloading GB’s of data before being able to play.
We shall see
This is a bad article for several reasons.
It takes broad, sweeping generalisations of negative feedback about certain areas of game development, and just supplies the PR from the game company that is designed to reduce the impact of such criticism.
Every game company is different, every game suffers from it’s own issues, every development studio does things in a different way. The issues of one studio (EA: Greed, poor QA, constant DRM pushes) are not universal (ANet: Lack of decent developer/community interaction until the HoT lead up), so getting some random PR response to generalised criticism/misconceptions about game development really doesn’t do anything useful.
But then that’s why I pay no attention to anything Kotaku publishes
I’ve been playing over a year now, but my oldest character is about 9 months, as I tend to delete and remake a hell of a lot.
I played an MMO called Swordsman Online for a while, it had toggleable action combat mode or “traditional” tab target mode, along with a weird hyrid of the two.
It was great to be able to chose how you control your character, but action mode players did have a very clear advantage in PK/PvP
There’s going to be a lot of problems if the raid is tweaked according to the top 1% of players… Meaning that the two guilds and others similar will only be capable of even completing the raid. Cause that makes the raid all but impossible for anyone not at their level.
See where I’m going with this?
Expecting a lot of complaining and raid nerfing in the near future. Are you incapable of improving yourself?
Raids are meant to be hard content, a type GW2 has been sorely lacking. There will always be SW-like maps for people who aren’t good and have no desire to get better.
This sort of attitude is the type I’m sad to start seeing when it comes to raiding. Toxicity stemming from elitism is something that has never been a huge issue in GW2, but after raid content I fear it will be rampant
eh, balancing raids around the opinions of people that only adhere to the metagame is going to result in incredibly crap raids.
Given the name of the staff is Nevermore, I’m guessing the birds are Ravens, not crows.
Props to Anet for the EAP references
Just felt like sharing this guy’s RP, made being in DR quite enjoyable and fun to watch/join in with.
