Gaile, I think most of us (on the forums, before a certain someone comes at me with an unwelcome passive-aggressive response) just want to cut through NCSoft’s (and I know it’s NCSoft’s, ArenaNet can’t have changed that much since GW1) PR crap and just want to be given the information that so many other titles go completely out of their way to deliver to their customers (Because each and every one of us is, after all, a paying customer).
“Not wanting to raise expectations” is a terrible, terrible excuse for not delivering information. Staying completely silent has a far more adverse effect on the community than a few idiots getting bent out of shape because something mentioned as a development possibility didn’t happen.
Any producer of content, across any industry, absolutely needs to keep their clients/customers/investors/etc informed of their content directions, lest they run the risk of losing those potential investors (which isn’t as much of an issue for GW2 admittedly, with it being buy to play).
There’s absolutely no valid reason for the silence, and if it is your company policy, then that policy needs to change, and change swiftly.
I’m in love with GW2. It’s a beautiful game, an amazing concept, and most importantly an amazing community, but I am quickly losing faith in the developers.
I appreciate Gaile’s input when it happens, but (Having worked in PR myself) I recognise that what Gaile is doing isn’t really communication, rather than attempting to give the illusion of communicating to try to calm the playerbase, instead of actively working on solving the communication issues.
We need to know what direction the game we love is going, plain and simple. If that comes with a few disappointments, then so be it. Following a lit path is much better than being lost in the dark.

No thanks.
So far the only legitimate argument I have seen against mount implementation is potential lag.
But let’s be honest, there will always be people playing on potatoes that lag in zergs regardless. Development should not be limited because of a few people running low end machines
There are mounts and mounts. Let’s first decide on the actual framework around mount usage, in order to make a complete proposal and then we can discuss it.
For example, while I’m for the implementation of mounts in the game, I’m completely against them giving a massive speed boost, while I have no issues with them providing a modest speed boost, like a +25% like the signets or even -maybe more rare mounts- a perma swiftness of +33%.
But I wanted to make clear, that even perma swiftness is like snail’s pace compared to a high mobility character build and I don’t want mounts to rival that.
I find the argument “My character is so slow, I don’t want to use WPs for RP/Immersion/other reasons, so give us mounts to compensate for the lack of speed” to be a very bad argument that is used way too often on Mount threads, because in reality, if you spec for it, your character can actually be blazing fast.
You can spec move speed in a lot of games, they still have mounts.
WP’s are nice, but there’s many people out there that don’t have all the waypoints (I, myself, being relatively new, only have about ~30% map completion) mounts would be useful in exploration, getting places faster, look good, and helpful for resource collecting.
Also, in regards to balance of classes, I am strictly anti-mount for pvp. Mounts should very much be a part of the game, but only in PvE

To solve the problem of zerging, they need to create in depth content that rewards individual skill and contribution, rather than catering to karma trains
I was thinking about how WPing costs money each time, and how mounts would be slightly unbalanced against that
How so? Paying for a waypoint is paying for the convenience of instant travel.
The price of a mount is the price you pay for faster travel than walking.
Yes, we have lots of waypoints, but I don’t see why that should be a factor in whether mounts are included in the game (Almost every game I know has a waypoint/hearth/soulbind/etc system for fast travel, and still uses mounts)
Mounts would be a collectors convenience item, much like the infinite use gathering tools are. It wouldn’t affect people’s gameplay if the mounts were designed with less polygons in mind, and I imagine they would offer a very welcome boost to the gem store’s cash flow.
There are some awesome creatures in game already that could be very easily turned in to mounts

Player moderators would be a good start. Its working well in other games.
I can’t name a single game that I have played in 15 years that has been positively impacted by player moderators outside of only forum moderation.
I’d love to see a text input box for reports, that allows the person reporting to add context to the report option.
Would love to see mounts in the game. Was one of the few things that disappointed me about GW2 when I picked it up (The others being lack of guild bases and lack of personal housing)
I think most people have an issue with the extreme focus on the Living Story, rather than any other aspect of the game (GW2 has been out for over 2 years now. That’s a long time to go without significant updates such as new classes/skills/races/level cap increase/etc).
Too much emphasis here is being put on living story and potential spoilers to it, but I think a lot of us don’t care for LS details, and instead want development feature details.
When will we see new dungeons? When will be get a new race? When will we get some more skills/weapons/professions?
GW2 has such amazing potential, but with so little feature expansion and so much emphasis on the living story as a way to avoid expanding and adding of new features, it’s a bit disappointing (And let’s face it, the new map is just Dry Top MK II. It’s not new, just an existing system with a few changes and some WvW map mechanics)

Quaggan Guardian, because Quaggan will protect you.
Or Skritt Thief, because shinies.
Skrit are our squirrels. Always scampering about, curious and hyper.
I just wish there were more friendly skrit in the game. I feel bad when I have to squish one.
GW2 caters to all players. Even the game staff have said in their CDI’s they won’t tolerate “casual vs hardcore” crap, so just drop it.
We’re all gamers, whether we drop in for a few hours in a very busy life schedule, or play for 12 hours a day religiously. GW2 has found a great balance for all, in my opinion.
many of the changes to the starter zones were only half-done. There’s a large number of heart quests that tell you to do things that you can no longer do
The Silverwastes are an active warzone. You can’t just pop in behind enemy lines.
I like it, the map always has something going on
There will always be unhappy people, many of those complaints are perfectly legitimate and simply poorly worded.
A business should aim to please their customers. Every one of GW2’s players is a paying customer, and they have the rights of a customer to offer feedback and comments on the product they have purchased.
Few people have the gift of offering constructive criticism and feedback without letting emotions run high, that’s just how people are.
Since I have been here (the past few months only, admittedly) the communication has been much improved (even when I made my thread on the topic, Gaile took plenty of time to respond to people’s concerns). I believe much of this is due to – I believe – Gaile now being part of the player communications team, rather than the French something or other person.
There’s definitely room for improvement in terms of development decisions and transparency, but at this point I simply believe that community members (on both sides of the wall) need to learn to respect the opinions of others.
I’ve suggested several things to Gaile through PM that could be done, but in the end, ANet will abide by whatever policy is in their best business interests, and let’s be honest – Guild Wars 2, even with the staff communication barriers, is probably one of the best MMORPG’s on the market.
I think perhaps people forget that GW2 is such a high quality product compared with other games on the market, and this makes them perhaps expect a little more than what is realistically possible.
I’d love that. The glowyness was cool.
anyone?
Just saw what the Vigil Crusader had on his back when talking to trahearne, was wondering if anyone knew what it was and how to get it.
I’d love to have capes and cloaks in the game, not just because of GW1, but because it would fit the game’s medieval thematic.
And because cloaks and capes look awesome
I’d like to point out that Cantha is inspired by Asia. This doesn’t mean that everything they add in game has to be an exact replica of Asian real world design, because Cantha is it’s own place.
Please don’t be that guy, OP. Please no.
Also, as has been pointed out, the in game hat design is prominent in vietnam.
I just join the full berserker groups anyway. Not like they can inspect your gear
As a new player myself (relatively, been around a few months now and still learning the ins and outs) I have absolutely no regrets with regards to my investment in GW2. The community is probably the friendliest I’ve ever seen (bar some pvp elitist ragers and one or two forum members, but that happens everywhere) and the game is engaging enough to be played for hours on end, on top of casual enough to just log in and bugger about if you want.
The best part about pve in GW2 is that reaching cap level isn’t a horrifically boring grind. It can be done casually (real world casually, not WoW’s definition of casual) in a few weeks and you can go at your own pace due to the awesome scaled exp system (the game scales your level down in pve relative to the zone you’re in, granting you exp appropriate for your actual level when participating in events)

as innovative as the occulus rift is, it’s only really seen active use in first person shooters and “heartstopper” horror games.
It’s not really designed for third person perspective games
is this normal?
I can understand a no spoiler policy, but absolutely nothing to go on about the upcoming changes except a teaser video?
Not sure if I like this approach

E. Social Gamer.
While I play the game actively and do what I can to advance my characters, I mainly play games for their communities and the social aspect, but I have no interest in roleplay or anything like that
(edited by rapthorne.7345)
run dungeons, do daily world bosses, salvage everything I get, sell for about 20-30g depending on globs
God forbid they should want to promote people actually purchasing gems with money, not gold.
The game needs microtransactions to survive, and I beliegve it’s been explained that the gem/gold and gold/gem ratios are dependant on the in game economy and number of gems and gold in circulation.
I highly doubt ANet are tampering with the conversion, but if they are, good on them. If you like the game enough, help support it and pay a little cash every now and then, rather than feeling entitled to getting gems cheap in game and taking advantage of sales intended for gem purchasers that use cash
It is an unfortunate truth that the unhappy minority tend to be the most vocal. People that are content usually remain silent, rather than actively praise the game so forum traffic is usually mostly negative in the majority of MMO’s.
There’s also the fact that very few people actually make use of the GW2 forums, compared to how many play the game.
(edited by rapthorne.7345)
the combat in the game certainly needs to be made more challenging, but not by splitting the server populations
Raids should absolutely not be guild content. This forces the idea that to successfully complete an event, you HAVE NO CHOICE but to join a huge guild.
There’s already some element of this with tequatl/triple trouble, in that it’s very difficult to get credit/even get on a map without joining a specific guild that only does these two events..
Should raiding guilds be viable? Absolutely. Should they be mandatory? No.
I’d love to see content that is deliberately designed to be un-trivialise-able.
Every single dungeon in the game, from AC to fractals, is a boring sequence of stack here, run here, do this, do that, which makes the dungeons seem more a chore than an actual fun task. (admittedly, this is mainly the fault of the players, but design flaws are what makes it possible)
If raids become a thing, I’d like to see them designed specifically to prevent this trivialisation occurring. Either with random mechanics, massive displacement to prevent stacking, or other such things.
I’d like a challenge rather than a chore, in short.
“gatchas” are a staple item in almost every MMORPG. they bring in a lot of money from the addicts/people with large expendable incomes who just shell out non stop.
It’s an unfortunately truth and fatal flaw in the micro-transaction business model, that the system is more designed to take advantage of a small number of massive spenders, rather than the larger pool of casual spenders
Why is this thread still here.
Anyone who regularly uses the forums should know by now that attempting to argue/debate/correct the OP is about as productive as headbutting a reinforced concrete wall
Living Story continuation is on November 4th, and they’re being pretty silent aboout what’s involved, so I’d say save your judgement until the 4th
I disagree completely with your statement about community distruction, but I’d love instanced housing, rather than just a “home” instance with the only personalisation being adding nodes to it
No one can tell you what you will enjoy. All the classes are appealing in different ways.
If you like engineer, I might suggest ranger or thief as a second class, but really no class is alike, so just try a few out until you find one you feel you can stick with
Do want.
I do like the look of the female version, but I don’t play female characters The male version is a bit meh, but hey, seasonal, time-limited perm account unlock, so why not?
do you get diminishing returns on bags?
bye then o/
Anything else from the merchant worth getting? don’t see a reason to buy the pails, I already have 18 slot bags
no pls. Outfits + armour skins at most.
I enjoy wearing things that aren’t in my “armour type”
The UI is far less cluttered here than in other games (ever played wow?)
calling for a mod to lock this thread, there’s nothing constructive going on and just a whole lot of arguing back and forth
I see a lot of people thinks quantaty means quality which i’m sorry to read. Nicky minaj has about 300 milion views on her music videos, does that make her a quality musician? Nope.
depends on your, personal, opinion.
I personally hate Nikki Minaj’s music. Does that mean it’s bad? Not at all, just that I don’t like it. If her music was universally bad or low quality, I doubt she’d generate the traffic she does or be as wealthy and successful as she is.
There’s something about humans that seems to make it almost impossible for most people to accept different points of view on a subject, rather than only their opinion being correct, and it’s one of the things I hate most about people as a whole.
It’s got your name stitched on to it. It’s not just for anyone
