It’s pretty clear the biggest thing people take issue with is the lack of choice. Having tasks assigned to you, rather than being able to pick and chose what you wish to do
probably an overhyped announcement of something trivial, as tends to be done at these pax events by most game developers
Would be nice to have the bids removed that are below sale price (thick leather >.>)
I assume you mean you are bored, not boring (if not, have a little more self confidence!)
A GW2 youtuber called WoodenPotatoes did a video not too long ago on what he does to keep his enjoyment of GW2. He mentioned creating personal challenges for himself in dungeons, like speed clearing AC with a duo, or placing certain restrictions upon himself to complete content. Create your own goals, whether it’s doing X in dungeon Y, or collecting every single torch skin, etc.
Other than that, there’s the social aspect. In most games I’ve played, the people in the games have kept me there to enjoy the game regardless of how long I’ve been playing or how much/littlke there is left to do
I don’t get lag at all while playing GW2, and I should be more susceptible to it as I play on NA servers from the UK. I suggest checking if your ISP is having issues or doing a traceroute to the GW2 servers to see if there’s a particular node which is causing packet loss for you while playing GW2.
I hcan have GW2 running for weeks at a time and still have less than 2GB RAM use (of 16GB total). It’s not an issue with the client and is likely an issue with the graphical drivers on your system.
Only thing I dislike about the Norn is the fact that if you play a male you have no choice but to have a tree trunk neck.
If it wasn’t for that, all my characters would be norn
I would hardly say that WoW is the first for most MMO players, but Ultima Online’s format (the game WoW copied) has become the “standard” in MMORPG development, so almost everywhere you find the same trinity, the same UI layout, the same gameplay, but that is why GW2 is so great. It breaks the stale mould that MMORPG’s have been stuck in for a decade.
I must disagree. While this is true for Generation Xers, and even Baby Boomers, most Millennials first experience MMOs through World of Warcraft. That game increased the player pool in the millions.
I’m not saying it’s the first MMO or that it’s the first MMO to use a known standard of gameplay, as you imply, but it is the first MMO for most of our younger players.
And that is why newer and younger players are resistant to Guild Wars 2. It follows a different format than World of Warcraft. That’s a big reason for the expansion demand as opposed to free, Living Story updates.
They’re not used to that.
I want an expansion because that’s how GW1 did it. the expansions offered hours upon hours of new content, entire new continents, new classes, etc.
It’s a far more wholesome content addition than the living story (2 years from launch, a few new maps, recycled mechanics, no new classes, no new weapons, feedback going ignored, etc)
they’re used from the wintersday sigils I believe
a huge number of Facebook/other browser games steal screenshots and other content from various successful francishises in an effort to lure players to their games. Facebook and Google adsense know, they just don’t care. It’s been happening for years
Keep in mind, World of Warcraft is the first MMO for a lot of players. So they expect something along those lines and mindsets. Vets, or those who played MMOs before WoW, have more experience and know there were games before Warcraft. They tend to be more open-minded because of their experiences with those other games.
We know, if we want a Warcraft experience with a game, we might as well play Warcraft. And, unfortunately, a lot of dead and dying MMOs who tried to copy, found this out the hard way.
Still, I do agree with almost everything you said, OP. +1 to both posts.

However people in general find change hard to adapt to, which is why there will always be such polarising views on GW2 and it’s casual nature
Being demanded in a dungeon party
…. but only if you come on your Guardian
Had a pretty good break myself, this time of year is one of the few when I get to see my family, a week away from the internet as a whole (with the exception of my phone) has been quite relaxing, though my younger siblings (youngest of which being 4, a 20 year age gap between us) definitely know how to wear me out and seem to see me more as a climbing frame than an older brother.
Hope everyone had a good break and will have a great 2015
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
The NPE is a shambles, GW2 needs better in game guidance on it’s more advanced systems, not dumbing down of basic content.
I’d like under water combat a lot more if things didn’t aggro you from half way across the bloody ocean.
Just saying.
The kicker part is there have been significant additions to classes, mechanics, items, skill, etc. Seems every patch there’s some modification to something.
The class I play today, with certain weapons, is nothing like the one I played in open beta. Heck, it’s not even the same after some chances just a few months ago.
But here’s to hoping that Rytlock is a ritualist next year. Blind? Dealing with spirits? Portals to a new land?
I’ll try the new class.
balance changes and slight adjustements that shift meta builds =/= significant content updates
If they don’t release an expansion then they need to start focusing the living world on more extensive changes and updates.
Two years is a long time for any online game to go without significant additions to classes, mechanics, items, skills, etc etc etc.
Look at rift, they’ve been going what… 4 years? In 4 years they’ve added 8 new souls, 2 entire continents, level cap increases, huge new lore and story updates, etc.
There’s really no excuse for ANet to not be doing these things besides simple unwillingness to.
(edited by rapthorne.7345)
New utilities. Give Necro the party support it needs, and new utility skills that consume a portion of their life force pool when cast
I don’t get why people think it’s so great. It’s a rehash of drytop with some PvE mode WvW mechanics
Only time I ever have trouble with mob groups is if I’ve against something with a knockdown (risen brutes, krait hypnos, ettins) and get unlucky with how much they spam it
the collection drop is not guaranteed. don’t forget you can open JP chests on other characters, too. A few of the chests I had to open twice
doesn’t the game boot you out after being inactive for 20 minutes?
throw an invite my way
GW2 is balanced around only having access to your 5 weapon skills, your healing skill, 3 utility skills and your elite, thus there is no need for extra hotkey bars.
I can’t think of any item you would need to hotkey, as 90% of consumables can’t be used in combat, so there’s no reason to not just open your inventory and use them from there
I know, ranger have a wide selection of pets available, but they each have unique stats and skills available to them, thus making many not appropriate depending on the situation.
I’d love to see skins available to change the cosmetic appearance of ranger pets and (especially, at least for me) necromancer minions.
(I love minionmancer, but would it kill you to make my fleshy friends a little less disgusting to look at?)
These skins could range from thematic changes (How about undead knights and spirits for necro?) to novelty (Plush griffon ranger pet anyone?) and be account-wide unlocks
put it here because BLTC forums got archived
A lot of the boxes have fixed contents.
ANet’s design policy of PvP equality negates one of the eastern market’s biggest incentives to play games (ie, the ability to become superior to others through a grind/money spending).
Eastern MMO market =/= western MMO market, this is why “globalised” games never do well across the board. Different markets want different things, and the servers for those markets should cater to that, not try to generalise everything (And alienate one of the markets, as seen here).
Give china their grind, let western servers keep the current play.
Hopefully this will make NCSoft realise they need to loosen the reigns and just let ANet call the shots.
?? Fractal weapons are account bound.
o.o they are?
Well, it’s called a Crystal Guardian on the TP. Thought it was a fractal weapon.
either way I love it’s look
I don’t have much gold, but I sent my match a Crystal Guardian Greatsword (His description said he was a fresh Guardian, and it’s probably my one of my favourite GS skins).
What did you send/have you been sent? :O
Edit: Whoopsie, Crystal Guardian =/= fractal greatsword
(edited by rapthorne.7345)
group wide might stacking and throwing rainbows is fun though
So they took a chess game out….big deal. Many quests were improved. Overall I feel the NPE is a huge improvement. Not everyone agrees with that but the gate does in fact swing both ways. I have leveled 2 characters to level 80 since that patch and have another to level 45. Its really just not as big a deal as some say
Sure it’s not a big deal. The point though is why? It was just one of those little side-activities that gave the world a feeling of life. Of fun. Of flavor. It was conflicting with nothing. It got in nobody’s way, and gave a little grin to people. Why take it away? Surely the New Player Experience is only lessened by removing something that livens up the world. The NPE is not for you. The NPE is for new players. Wouldn’t a new player be more blown away with GW2 if he stumbled across a little side-game of chess he could participate in, than if it were merely static background? ANet takes away from the game when they take stuff away from the game. Even something as trivial as this. And eventually the little things add up.
Alot of the things started to change after the chinese release and it is really not certain if Anet has alot to say in these matters.
Anet takes care of development. Yes, Ncsoft used to give them alot of freedom and they probably still do however Ncsoft as the publisher in addition to chinese publisher can affect the way Anet directs the game. Gaming publishers take care of the profit department and if they require a game taking a specific direction to make more profit, I don’t hink the devs have so much to say about that.
I do agree that GW2 may attract more people if it became easier to understand however getting rid of the mini-games and some of the more casual details in the early zones is a bit hard to understand as it can’t really affect the gameplay in a negative way.
NCSoft isn’t just the publisher, ANet is a subsidiary of NCSoft, unfortunately.

many of the hearts have been massively simplified, in my personal opinion, that’s not an improvement.
Interacting with objects to do things was “too complex”, now we dance with cows instead of feed them and we rub corn better instead of water it.
Might just be me, but if metrics say this is the way to go, then MMO players are getting stupider and stupider
They also killed off a huge amount of the really fun things to do in lowbie zones.
No more golem chess.
Ignore the colours and just look at the order. 1-4 and 6-9 are going from left to right on the board (furthest lest is 1, furthest right is 9). Put your screen angle so it’s a top-down view and put your fingers on 1-4 and 6-9. Easy method to get the achievement. Was very frustrating for me at first, but after making the adjustments to my method that I did, I was able tog et from 0-500 in less than half an hour.
Good luck
One more argument against. The clipping on the capes would make them hideous looking on the charr.
with decent enough coding, that can be avoided.
The best super hero game in the world (RIP CoH ) got capes just perfect
Unfortunately, at this point of the game, Gw2 needs a major overhaul of it’s game format if it wants to keep up &keep it’s player base & get new ones interested. There’s just no buts & why about it. There loosing numbers every month. & in the end, nobody cares about mounts & new weapons skins or even new content if ur character cant get more power. Gw2 lacklusters in the game excitement department… shame!
I disagree. Where are these numbers? People can talk all they want, but if you want to make the claim that an expansion is needed or the game is dead, you better bring some facts. From where I’m standing, everything is going fine, and Anet doesn’t need to reconsider any of their goals. Unfortunately for this discussion, we can’t see their earnings, but taking a look at how the developers and staff that visit the forums are talking, they certainly don’t seem concerned at all.
There’s a viral mindset here on the forums that everything is done for if the vocal minority doesn’t get what they want. I think that sentence itself is sufficient to explain why that mindset is wrong.
Numbers you can find on statistics webpages. Google it! Theres this other thread already talking about the servers in china already merging after 6 month.thats a sign of trouble right there. Players are leaving. As for gear grind i do understand the reluctance of lots of GW2 players. Reason number 2 why i stop playing WoW. But the truth is, WoW has still have a players base of 8to 10 million players despite there losses & bad decisions. Why? let me give you a hint…it’s not the story telling thats for sure.
You’re grasping at straws now. GW2China was a drastically different game compared to what we have. It was no different than the cash shop games on your phone. That’s part of why it failed.
As for wow, it only has players because of E-Stockholme Syndrome. They keep players by constantly putting out expansions you have to pay for, and the “customers” keep buying.
E-Stockholme Syndrome, well it sounds like it’s working. Maybe this game needs some of that. & i agree that china had a different formula on how to pay the game. But they have the same game as us. Play on the same format. Sorry but That still says allot.
Comparing Western and Eastern gamers is like comparing chalk and cheese. They’re very different and want very different things.
There’s a reason why most Asian games that get ported to the west are massive grindfests: Because it;s what the Eastern market enjoys.
As for wow, most stick with it becaus4e they don’t want to lose the time and money and effort invested over 9 years. I still have my sub for wow active even though I’ve not logged in to it in about 5 years.
I have 14,656AP. I’ve done a lot at 10FPS.
Many of you are focused on this 1 achievement as if it exists in a vacuum. It doesn’t, it is part of a larger achievement where is an absolute requirement to complete. It is not 1 of a number of options to complete. As someone above mentioned, they revamped the dailies to not only encourage people to try other things but to widen the number of options people can pick from to complete the daily. Ya, some people don’t like it because they don’t have map access to some areas or Maw doesn’t spawn in their play window and they refuse to do PvP or WvW, but they have lots of options to pick from, I think at L80 its 12 and they only need to do 3? And dailies happen every day. This is for a meta achievement that last 2 weeks and has no options as to doing this achievement and not that one. Anet wants to leave the bells in year round, Ill withdraw my argument. Then I can do a note or 2 a day and get it done without spending all my time in there. Otherwise this is a mini-game that has no connection to anything else. it is not part of a storyline, it is not part of a sequence of events. It is just something someone in ANET likes and wants to promote so they made it a required part of the meta achievement so people would do it. They didn’t do that with the other mini-games. They didn’t give people the option of completing 1 or more of the 4 mini-games. No, they singled out this 1. That is the root complaint.
I encourage you to try the method I noted above. It makes it much easier and, like I said, after some frustration with the game originally, I worked out my technique and wernt from 0-500 notes in less than half an hour.
Good luck!
I was very frustrated with it at first, but I got in to a technique and went from 0 to 500 in about 30 minutes.
Move camera so it’s a bird’s eye view, and place fingers on 1-4 and 6-9. ring note only after it passes through the white line (Order on hotkeys is identical to order on the board)
proceed to own everything and rake in kittens of gift boxes.
That’s the best lamp ever. Would buy
Many new – and some older – games are doing monthly product manager/community manager/ceo/etc/whatever blogs to the community (Including a direct B2P competitor, TSW). These addresses detail current directions, focuses and aims of the staff, as well as address the month’s concerns and feedback.
It’s long been stated that ANet’s communication to it’s player base is absolutely horrendous, and I think a regular address to the community as a whole would really help in this regard.
Points of interest really doesn’t count, as they don’t address community concerns or feedback, and focus mainly on recent changes, not upcoming changes
This might be the new forum folks, give em a break, maybe?
nah, we were specifically told the forum experts or whatever wouldn’t get anet tags
Seems like we are just ending with another ‘’OMG, THE GAME IS DYING’’ thread.
Good luck. I fancy such useless threads because of all the rubbish.
I don’t feel like the game is dying, but then I’ve not played any games with as high population as GW2 other than wow, so I might just not have a good enough background for comparison
It looks like gw2 is at it’s lowest it’s ever been on raptr and google trends. I don’t put much value into these, but some people here have said they do.
Maybe things slowing down for them on all front will force them to produce lengthy content, like an expansion.
http://caas.raptr.com/most-played-pc-games-november-2014-dragon-age-and-call-of-duty-debut-world-of-warcraft-resurgent/
Unfortunately, most game producers simply lay off staff and change nothing about their actual production process when things get bad.
Integration, not segregation
I can’t believe somebody created this topic. And somebody followed up by saying he/she had arthritis and is painful to click.
I suggest you sue Anet for the amount of clicking they are forcing upon your hand. Because they ARE clearly forcing you to do that.
That right there is violation upon your human rights. Those kittens forcing you to click causing you pain
not at all what I was getting at, I’m just genuinely surprised by the lack of a “use multiple” context button for consumable stacks.
So to sum up…
‘I have to click on things?? Waaaaah!’
I have arthritis in my arms and wrists and suffer from carpal tunnel. I have had to set up an auto clicker just to use my luck items because it is physically painful for me to click the amount of times needed to use things. Especially with the sheer amount of luck consumables the presents are offering.
they really do need a “use multiple” option somewhere, yeah. nothing more annoying than standing there giving yourself RSI consuming luck
1. Nothing stops you from equiping other gear sets.
2. Nothing stops you from changing your build, including skils and traits.
3. Nothing stops you from finding a group of likeminded individuals via the LFG tool.
4. Nothing stops you from making friends in game to hang together.Nothing stops you, only yourself.
ps: There is a huge thread already about a similar topic, please merge/delete the thread.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/This-Meta-has-to-end
I’m not addressing popularity of the build and whether I can party with people when not using a berserker set (I use Soldier as a guardian) but rather addressing the fact that nothing has been done by ANet to make other builds as effective as berserker in pve
