I’m just sad that, as a relatively new player, my chances of beta testing are non-existent.
oh god no, massive zergs of cc immune people aren’t as effective any more.
Why is this a bad thing?
Fixed an issue in which players could take repeated falling damage when running down steep inclines.
It’s been how long? Hopefully it’s fully fixed, can’t count the amount of times I’ve dropped dead by simply running down stairs.
I feel like it would definitely bring in a lot more people, but it would also alienate a lot of players who enjoy the dps-fest.
Don’t forget a lot of MMO’s are going in the direction of totally removing support aspects from games. more and more mmo’s are being released without healer classes or tanks, just different types of dps (magic, ranged, melee).
As someone who grew up with the trinity, I really, really hate this change in the formula, but the new generation are lazy and entitled, everyone wants to see big numbers fly so that’s what’s happening

In this thread, speculate as to which weapon our specialisations will get and why you think that (excluding the ones we already know, of course)
I think thief will get longbow, as they are the only class without access to a 1,200 range weapon, and it’s about time they got one

But the metrics said you need to be gated because you’re stupid.
THE METRICS
The home instance is player housing, it just has been given a low priority for being improved. Guild halls were likely given housings entire priority.
Non instanced guild housing is just not feasible in the gw2 engine. The engine is designed more around smooth combat and high end graphics which makes most of the environment static.
Everything you can destroy or interact with is actually an npc behind the scenes. There are definite limitations on how many npcs they can have and show on a map.
Additionally the instanced style of the game would cause major complications for open world housing.
Disclaimer This is purely speculation based on my software engineering and mmo background and observations while playing GW2.
given they can have dropped objects with ownership flags in WvW, there’s 0 reason why housing could not be open world, if the housing is treated as a dropped object.
Having said that, I much prefer instanced housing, gives you a private space to hang out with friends that you can really call your own.
The home instance is totally static and the same for everyone, thus isn’t not a cool place to hang out
There’s no “Pay To Win” aspect to GW2, pretty much everything in the gem store is vanity and convenience items, so there’s no need to worry about being at a disadvantage compared to cash shoppers.
Gems can also be purchased with in game gold at the currency exchange, so even if you don’t buy gems for real money, you can still enjoy the benefits of gems if you swap some gold for them
I’d love a housing system. They really dropped the ball with the home instances. they’re so static and bland.
Yes, they will return. the original advert for the 24 hour sales stated that they are releasing future content early for a limited time, implying they will return at some point. When and at what price, though, I do not know
I want a mini rabbit. it’s not fair that Snrif gets to horde them all
I would suggest ranger.
what games are those?
I feel like an idiot for asking this, but how do you make your summoned spirits follow you? Mine all just stand in place, but I’ve seen a lot of rangers with 4~5 spirits just following their ranger as they move around
I want the mini piglet, the golden pig is a bit meh in my opinion.
I hope at least vanilla players can access guild bases, because it will suck hard if they are going to wilfully segregate guild feature access
Unfortunately, ANet have seen fit to give us abysmally low rates for half decent drops. Some people are just lucky. I know someone playing for 4 days that got a precursor drop, and I know people who have been playing from the start that have never even seen an ascended chest.
This kind of thing happens when you’re dealing with rates in the 0.0X% range
I was a bit miffed to find this, too. I was going to theme my necro around being a fallen angel, but without the wings in death shroud it really detracts from it. I know a huge amount of people are upset about this in game (vanishing in death shroud and while emoting, etc) so I’m hoping that ANet patch it so they stay
quite disappointed that thet vanish in death shroud and while using emotes, but otherwise they look really good
Despite their underdog status, I absolutely adore necromancer. so much fun to play and pretty diverse, too.
Everyone and their mother has a warrior, they’re easy to play, boring and bland.
The most core difference is simple: GW1 is not a true MMORPG, more like an optionally multiplayer roleplaing game where you have a story to work through.
GW2 is a true MMORPG
I for one would simply settle for a good old fashioned friend confirmation, rather than the followers list, which has a stalky vibe to it (I actually recently found an ex of mine had come to GW2 and saw her on my followers list, which I only checked by accident. She was promptly blocked
I am working towards 100% map completion for my gift of exploration. Will Maguuma also be required to reach 100% map completion when HoT releases (and how will this work for those who aren’t buying the expansion? Just curious).
Just want to know if I need to rush map completion before HoT releases or I can just take it slow
It’s unfortunate you feel as you do, OP. In my opinion GW2 has one of the industry’s most forgiving and gentle levelling experiences, on top of a myriad of ways to gain that experience, as well (most games it’s a case of talk to this guy, kill 200 of these, talk to that guy again, rinse, repeat).
Group events are called group events for a reason.
Conditions can be managed easily in PvE. Every class has some form of condition removal
As for skills and classes, yes, the pve experience is a little bland (until you get to high level fractals and certain dungeons) but in PvP you need to be very aware of what you’re doing and how to do it right.
Also if you just spam random buttons in League of Legends, I dread to think what rank you are.
World Bosses: Yes, most Wb’s are pretty simple, but the fun ones are triple trouble and tequatl, which require map-wide coordination to complete.
Exp gain: I dunno why you think as you do, but leveling and exp gain in GW2 is so easy and simple compared with… well… pretty m,uch every other MMO on the market right now.
It honestly feels like GW2 is your first MMO, and playing GW2 first sets the quality bar kitten high. I’ve been playing MMO’s for 15 years now, and I have to say GW2 has been the most enjoyable experience in those 15 years in terms of gameplay, community and progression. Other MMO’s pale in comparison to GW2’s superior quality and design.
Which character/profession would you rather be?
Human Necromancer (Or Revenant if that counts)
Which game mechanic would you rather not have to contend with?
Agony, no contest
What currently unimplemented game mechanic would you wish was implemented?
Greatsword Necro
Which NPC would you be most likely to seek out and befriend or clobber or ________?
Taimi. She’s so awesome, who wouldn’t want to be her friend?
Which zone would you choose to call home?
Divinity’s Reach. Such a beautiful city, I love it.
It would be nice to have as a casual/social activioty.
GW2 is one of the most social, casual and friendly MMO’s out there, but the total lack of social options within the game is a bit meh. Would be nice to see some social systems added at some point
Peace between the Charr and Humans is very fragile, and many Humans still have not forgotten The Searing, while many Charr have not forgotten than the Humans drove them out of their land in the first place (Charr x Human situation was was similar to the playable races x centaur situation in GW2 now). All around Kryta there are instances of Humans and Charr not getting along, even a few instances in Divinity’s Reach itself.
I like the high cost. It means that only people who actually want to command get the tag, and we don’t have commander tags absolutely all over the place for no reason. I very, very rarely find an eotm instance with no commander unless I’m on at really early hours for america on a weekday, but even then there’s still usually a commander
Oh god I want it. I hope it’s gem store. they can have all my money
all the 100% rep guilds I’ve joined I’ve quickly left because they’re just too pushy, uptight or srsbsns. the decent guilds don’t need to ask for 100% rep, because they make you WANT to rep, not because they need it
I don’t think they are doing that at all, I think they have simply realised that all their meta consists of at the moment is DPS and a large number of people are not happy with it. I’m glad that revenant has some “tank” mechanics to it like taunting
I love the hidden alcove in the grove, it’s so pretty. What’s your favourite hidden nook in the game?
Runner up is probably just chilling out on the raft in the lake in Queensdale, not really hidden, but still pretty
Personal opinion is a grand old thing.
Sounds to me like you’re getting unlucky with your parties. join a guild, do guild groups, screw the elitists who think everyone who dares to step in to a dungeon should know every exploit and shortcut there is.
All the quirks on the low level maps before they genericised them all with the NPE
I’m just more than a little disappointed that they went ahead with it given the large amount of negative feedback received about the program.
Also about the fact that gaile asked us to reply in a thread that we can’t reply in.
two days so far I’ve gained more gold than I’ve spent, and also been able to sell the ram packs for a nice bonus, too.
A lot of world bosses are like this. everyone just stands in one massive zerg and dps’s, there’s no tactics involved
ANet staff have a lot of flaws when it comes to how they deal with communication and community relations, but GW2’s customer service is by far the best I have ever experienced in any MMO in over 15 years
The dragon mask is likely going to be gem store
it may be that some items are specifically designed to compliment existing armour sets, rather than be a part of their own full set.
Thanks for all info
the game started patching now….it seems like there is about 10gb of patches to do :O
the initial download is about 14GB if you just downloaded the installer, yes. Unless you have very speedy net I’d suggest overnighting it.
Server doesn’t have a huge impact unless you are going to play World vs World, as the game uses a megaserver system to allow everyone to play together, but I hear Desolation is pretty popular.
All classes are pretty easy to get used to, but warrior and ranger are often seen as the simpliest classes to play and easiest to get used to the game with (I started with ranger, myself).
The armour set is per-character, but you will unlock the armour skins for your account to apply the look of the armour you select to the same type of armour of the same armour class (light, medium, heavy)
The best thing I can suggest is don’t be afraid to ask questions in map chat, most people playing GW2 are very friendly and willing to help, and the game has a fair few features not seen anywhere else, as well as not the grandest direction and guidance.
The /wiki command will also be a good friend to you. if ever there’s something you’re unsure about (like an item/skill/etc) type /wiki item name to bring up the wiki page for that particular thing
unfortunately, GS is the best dps weapon for every single class that can use it.
You’ll likely see necros also rocking greatswords when HoT comes out (when not in DS of course), because it’s bound to blow all other weapons out of the water in terms of dps.
Doesn’t count as a world boss, but the vinewrath kills everyone in the area if all 15 of the siege beasts are destroyed
Outfits have 4 dye channels and once you buy one it’s unlocked for your account forever. Free to apply and change whenever. They’re great for leveling.
My personal favorites are the chef’s outfit on sylvari and the pirate outfit.
that’s cool! What do you mean buy them? I have earned a bunch of dyes from black lion boxes and ones guildmembers gave me. Do i need to buy outfit dyes from the gem store? from an in game store?
Yes, most outfits are gem store items. Some like the Hex outfit we could buy with candy corn cobs during Halloween. But it’s a one time purchase and I think it’s quite worth the cost to get at least one. I don’t know of any others that were not gem store besides the Hex outfit.
As others have said you can convert in-game gold to gems so you don’t have to use real-world money. I’m at work so I can’t see how much it would cost in gold to buy an outfit. The second tab you see when you press “O” is where you convert gems to gold and gold to gems. There is some tiny text near the bottom for “custom” exchange where you can get the exact amount of gems you want rather than their one size fits all exchange that you first see.
The outfits seem like 10$(which is the same for LoL skins, so I am ok with that) so I am definitely going to get one
I did see a dreamthistle greatsword skin on the AH though.. it was 1kg, and by gem prices thats 140$ O.o.
I mean i’m all for supporting the game but holy geez. Idk about that one.
Some skins are from older content, or take a large number of black lion tickets, which means their prices are higher. Every game has their rare/limited edition items which are expensive on the gold market.
It’s a wise idea to not compare the gold price of something to the potential gem price (converting gems to gold is a very bad way to get money unless you have a very high credit card limit)
I mean like…that skin is pretty BAMF. Not gunna lai. Is there a better way to pay for gold in a way that won’t jeopardize my account, or credit card? I only looked at it that was as it was an in game system that was legitimate.
If there’s a better way, maybe i’ll be for it, maybe i will just have to farm and hope it stays there?
There’s no way outside gem conversion to buy gold with real money without exposing you to potential credit and identity fraud, as well as a game account ban (ie, third party gold sellers). Farming gold doesn’t take too much effort once you hit 80, there’s many methods.
Like I said, don’t worry about the cosmetic side of things until you’re 80 and geared up, otherwise you’ll be wasting a whole lot of resources on things you’ll just replace pretty quickly
