I’ve been playing it a lot lately in WVW and TBH it doesn’t need much more help now, just tweaking. Agree with others that the Salvation trait line is the biggest problem, it doesn’t play very well with other legends and it’s too narrowly defined in terms of healing.

The biggest issue remaining gameplay-wise is that Ventari is just too easy to focus down in PVP/WVW because of no stunbreak and weak self-healing. I still like the idea of making the elite teleport you to your tablet position and removing the dropped orbs. The dropped orbs don’t work IMHO.

You cannot outrun a half decent warrior, thief, or ranger.

You totally can, it just depends on how much of a headstart they have.

Shiro teleport + cripple and chill on hammer and you’ll catch anything more times than not.

In my preliminary testing, I saw magnetic aura fire while using staff in WVW, unclear whether the boon duration increase worked or not.

My ideal improvement would be to make the elite a teleport skill that swaps your position with the tablet’s position, without destroying the tablet and keeping the knockback, but adding a 45sec CD.

The tablet mechanics are interesting but they need to make the legend a bit more appealing.

45sec cooldown is ridiculous even for this effect, let me remind you that the highest cooldown for regular rev utilities is 10sec and for elites 5sec. Also not really interesting.
A simple way to restore sustain to proper levels is reintroducing the clerics amulet, because of logical reasons I doubt you were talking about WvW or PvE.

I was talking about WVW. A skill that swapped your current position with your tablet would be the best thing ever. CD needs to be long or ventari would be unkillable.

I think thats why sword#5 exists, to pull your opponent away from their pets/clones and make (slightly) better use of #2 or #3.

This would be a fine idea but for the fact that sword #5 never hits anything not completely stationary.

I agree. I had the same thoughts when I opened the game tonight. Not sure they thought this through very well.

Copying condi on legend swap is bad because swapping out of Mallyx with a bunch of condis on you is the last thing you want to do.

Your idea of copying condis on EtD pulse is good. maybe copying condi on elite use might be better in order to work with other legends?

It isn’t specifically the condis but what I find with them is that once their heal pops, they can be spiked or condi downed easily.

The same Rev player on a stance Warrior will perform better as the Warrior build has more condi resistance up time as well as defensive sustain going for about half the fight. The Warrior also has far better mobility.

Disagree on both counts. Vs condis, mallyx rev can have 100 resistance uptime, and with chill/cripple on hammer i can keep up with any nike warr. Mallyx also provides no cd 600 leap for good combat mobility. Good luck CCing a mallyx rev with stability trait.

I roam on a shiro/mallyx hybrid (with herald stab trait + shield) and IMO it’s a great roamer, which is also great in ZVZ. Mallyx makes any condi class who isn’t running good boon strip easy, and shiro provides great mobility and stun break. double stab on dodge addresses Mallyx’s big weakness which is CC. this build is also great vs boon-dependent classes cause of all the boon strip.

Why don’t u go to pvp. The people there use builds specifically for 1v1 or few v few. Plus u get to choose your runes and builds For Free. U don’t even have to spend so much time running back after u die too. U can also try all the classes with minimal effort. The list goes on and on.

Because PVP is player vs point. WVW has better actual PVP.

all fair points IMHO.

I think WVW has been seriously mismanaged from the start. In my view (and the view of many many others playing WVW), WVW is the single best and most differentiated aspect of this game in that GW2 WVW basically has no other real competitors in the gaming industry.

GW2 PVE is quite bland, and GW2 PVP in my view is among the worst of all the MMOs I’ve played. Given that I would normally classify myself as a competitive PVPer, this is saying a lot.

I say mismanaged, but one could equally well argue that WVW has been _un_managed, in that Anet has done very little to capitalise on its initial success, or to address the known issues with the game mode.

Case in point the grassroots GVG scene that was really popular 18 months ago, that Anet went out of their way to kill off/ignore. This was at a time when participation in sPVP (Player vs Point) was basically non-existent. I used to work in a major game company, I can tell you with certainty that other game companies would kill to have a grassroots competitive scene spring up in one of their games and they would have fostered the kitten out of it.

It’s really sad. I still don’t think Anet “gets it” when it comes to WVW – how much of a good position they are in, industry-wise to capitalise/monetise this game mode (WVW/sGVG) as a competitive mode. It’s surprising, because all of the indicators of the potential for success were there: DAOC being a surprise success, far outselling its most ambitious sales forecasts, the initial popularity of Warhammer, which attempted to replicate DAOC’s RVR but fell short, the level of support for CU’s kickstarter, and then the popularity of GW2’s WVW, which Anet has noted on the public record was a surprise.

Players are pretty kitten disillusioned now, and many would-be WVW players have moved onto other games or game modes because of the lack of attention.

For me, the reasons I WVW are the same as when I first started: the quality of fights are still higher, more varied, and more interesting than in Player vs Point.

Not really. Even if you manage to CC, he can just use any of 3 stunbreaks. I don’t see how and good thief can lose. Even if the opponent has mad CC, AOE and/or burst, a good thief will just stunbreak and SF away.

Yep, no matter what they say, this is a pay2win game, by design.

It is a fundamental shortcoming of the B2P model that companies will always create new ways to force you to spend more money while not really improving the stuff you’ve already paid for.

It is also why things like class balance & fixing bugs are very low priority in GW2 – they don’t bring in new income.

Case in point: the sheer number of bugs still in the game since release, nearly 4 years ago, eg: Ele skill Ride the Lightning overshooting even stationary targets:

Yep, condi D/D Dodge daredevil. Fought one yesterday in an allied camp full of veterans and he still managed to kill everything cause couldn’t land anything. All he did was spam dodges and dagger #3, and stunbreaked my only hard cc.

Firstly, thank <deity> that there will be a mix of BLs. What a relief.

The logical question to ask now is what should be the 3rd BL?

Could EOTM (or a modified version of it) be it? An expanded version of Obsidian Sanctum? Or should it be another entirely new map?

My ideal version of WVW from a map design POV would have been how the original DAOC did it — with 3 geographically unique maps that were distinct parts of a larger land mass, united by a common central map (which could be existing EB).

Second choice would be a new map based on obsidian sanctum, ie: undergound, with large cavern areas, and supported gliding.

Other ideas?

Dire mesmers are more than WORTHLESS in WvW. Do you honestly think your garbage dueling/roaming builds accomplish anything in a format all about large groups of people taking keeps and towers?

WvW should NEVER be based on duelist/5v5 builds. We’re balancing for zerg play in this format, and mesmer AoE is utter garbage as is their illusion/shatter mechanic in any large scale engagement.

One of the reasons why WVW succeeds is that it offers a wider range of challenges and experiences compared to sPVP (sh1tPVP)/PVE. In my experience, dire mesmers, while crappy for the zvz clash, are great at harrassing, picking off stragglers and reinforcements, not to mention key skills like veils/portals.

back on topic: yes every class has utilities or traits that continue to suck in all 3 game modes and yes it’s pretty appalling for this still to be the case in an almost-4yo game.

e.g. Ele conjures are a utility group that have had loads and loads of negative feedback and good suggestions over the years, all of which has been studiously ignored by Anet.

Arguably, Rev is in the worst position, being the newest and therefore, least mature class. e.g. the whole Ventari legend and traitline are still very beta.

Or maybe they should give us an option to disable both the effects and the sound; that way everyboy is happy.

I really want this option. The visual effect bothers me, but not as much as the “organ” music that goes with an active facet bothers me. I typically have the player instrument volume slider down to zero to disable the organ music, but then I miss the other instrument sounds that I do want to hear. I’d love to see an option to specifically disable/enable the Herald ground effect and accompanying sound.

Yep, this irritates the kitten out of me and a bunch of others as well, as evidenced by other threads complaining about the herald “drone”. It’s irritating as kitten and makes me not want to play the game.

Irritated me so much I stopped playing herald. My new spec only uses Facet of Nature for the boons.

I agree some aspects of the class are certainly below the acceptable quality mark, but without specifics, your concerns are just going to be ignored.

My list of things about the class that are unreasonably poor/unfinished:

  • only 3 utilities per legend is poor, class feels like it lacks choice.
  • Ventari heal. the heal via move mechanic is cool but it’s unusably clunky (re-summon on legend switch is super tedious, CD/aftercast on #1 is too long, tablet move speed is to slow, AOE of #1 is too small, the heal is too weak, no self-healing)
  • Salvation trait Daze on elite when ventari elite is a knockback (and shiro elite is a stun) makes no sense.
  • excessive emphasis on healing and particularly outgoing heal% in Salvation traitline generally

agree mallyx is the way to go for roaming and zvz, the condi removal isn’t good enough to do it any other way.

I prefer the 2x stab trait, and more celestial for the hybrid condi/direct dmg, paired with shiro for the cc, teleport and stun break.

the biggest drawback of mallyx is vulnerability to boon stripping/stealing.

Hmm for me ventari is the most broken legend. The heal is clunky and affects toi small an area, and the traits are just terrible, eg daze on elite when the elite is already a knockback. 3 separate traits for outgoing heal %, healing power to toughness conversion…. just terrible.

Just make the spirits work just like Necromancer’s Flesh Wurm, complete with ground targeting, as well as activation into stun break and shadowstep (in addition to passives/active effects unique to each spirit).

Would be super fun to use with SB and it’s flanking bonuses.

yep, I think the solution is ground targeting, and/or making the spirits invulnerable to AOE damage, and/or making teleport targets (and re-balancing their effects accordingly).

why? the damage from axe on a power build is abysmal (dmg coeff on #1 is 0.5, the second worst of any autoattack, even Ele air staff which also bounces to 3 targets is 0.66). might as well make axe a full condi weapon.

When it comes to Honed Axes – 1st of all I believe some of the suggestions should just become baseline. The AoE on #3 could / should become baseline. As well as #5 cast on the move. What I personally think the trait could do is plain and simple swap of Ferocity into Precision (synergy with Sharpened Edges) with a feel of an active or trigger effect on it (if you hit more than 1 target with an Axe skill, your movement and attack speed is increased by 5% for 3 seconds, stacks up to 5 times). This is just a suggestion. Numbers are not important.

Agree, axe #3 being AOE should be baseline, that makes a lot of sense. Axe is crap without it, and Honed Axes is crap as a GM trait. I’d venture that axe #1 should have a bleed as well, and remove the might.

It’s fallen out of favour after healing spring was hardcore nerfed. The #5 is still fine, maybe a little uninspiring, but fine, the #4 is meh.

Disagree about the anti-AOE sentiment — one of the biggest issues with ranger (from a WVW perspective) is the lack of ranged AOE.

While pets are always the number 1 issue with ranger, there are also some synergy problems that do not allow lean builds to prosper.

Take condition builds for instance:
- trap traits conflict with sharpened edges, you have to pick one or the other
- traps offer no utility and thus you are forced into things that is not a condition build essentially
- Wilderness survival has 2 condition traits that should essentially be 1 trait

To be honest, we should probably take a page from the Dragon Hunter trap book on how to make trap offer utility alongside damage, yet still not be overpowered. This would go hand in hand with some trait re alignment in the Skirmishing line:

Skirmishing traits:
- Sharpened edges made an adept minor
- Hidden barbs made into a master minor
- Hunters tactics changed into 10% extra crit chance on bleeding foes instead of when flanking
- Furious grip and tailwind merged into a single trait at the master level
- Striders defense moved to adept tier
- New trait : Preparedness – drop a spike trap when CCed.

Trap changes:
- every trap will offer some utility and/or boon alongside its current effects
- Flame trap pulses 5 seconds of 2 stacks of might
- Spike trap is a Stun break, cast time removed. CD reduced from 45 seconds to 35 seconds
- Frost trap CD reduced to 25 seconds. Pulses 1s of resistance and protection on activation
- Vipers nest pulses 2 seconds of fury.

This, or something similar, would close off traps as a valid utility group. They have been left alone for so long and have significantly fallen off in terms of viability. Dragon hunter traps are amazing in concept, and it really does not matter whether DH are OP or UP.

Yep. Traps were much better when they could be thrown 600, and even then they were kinda weak.

The only reason anyone ever uses traps is for the stealth with the runes. The traps are useless except versus the student-grade AI in this game.

If you are looking for people to duel look around SM, just watch out for the blobs. Most people will be cool but their has been a rise in kittens that will interrupt lately.

The bl’s offer better roaming fights than ebg. Just go flip a few camps or throw up a cata for a tower and defenders will come running.

I really hate DBL but I voted to keep it for the sole reason that the wording strongly implied that no further BLs would be created if DBL were ditched. I suspect a large segment of the keep-DBL vote feels the same way.

What I actually want is 3 distinct BLs, whether it’s ABL + DBL + EOTM, or ABL + DBL + new map, I don’t mind, I just think it’s incredibly weak that 3 years into the game there isn’t already 3 unique BLs.

They will probably fix all revenant bugs when the next expansion hits.

that’s the major problem with GW2’s B2P model: once they have your money (ie: you buy the game/expac), they cease to give a kitten about fixing stuff, because it doesn’t directly impact their bottom line, whereas in a subscription game, if they leave stuff broken for 2+ years, people will unsubscribe.

In fact it’s worse than that, in GW2 they are better off not fixing things as it will make people stop playing, which actually saves them money (server time, network bandwidth).

Basically the entire B2P model wants you to buy the game, and buy stuff from the TP or frustrate you into stop playing, until the next expac hits, then repeat the cycle.

That’s why bugs aren’t fixed, and why there are so many skills/traits left to rot.
