I was doing the story mode on my rev right at launch, with the game fully downloaded. I completed it and joined a friend for torn sky, but after completing it, it set me back to Rally to Maguuma with everything checked off. I can’t reenter the instance and I can’t progress on my story, nor can I get the rewards that are required to make the other specialization stuff.

This is day 3, and clearly I’m not alone since there are bunch of posts here. I don’t want to have to remake my rev since I use up a total makeover kit and dropped a bunch of gold on armor and weapons, and transmutations stones to get a look i wanted.

It wouldn’t even be so bad if there was basically any response acknowledging the issue or that it’s being worked on….

Yup, I have just posted about this issue a bit before you. Very annoying :S

Just came back after a little over a year of not playing(situation forced me to sell my old gaming pc), and find a new thing on here: NPE. I thought “Hey, nifty, a way for new players to get the feel of the game. Maybe it’s good for returning players, too.”

No. It isn’t. Level one: All you get is a basic attack. You can’t sit in your warm up instance and get the first three weapon skills unlocked right away anymore. What’s more is that I can’t bloody die there, either. What kind of bunk is that?

I can say with honesty that I don’t like it. Not in the “It’s new so must be bad” sense, but in the “This is boring, I’m not having fun” sense. I loved and applauded this game, bought copies for all my friends, and don’t regret that at all. This NPE though, it makes me want to just mark all ANet mail as spam.

I do not like the new style of early game training wheels. The fun and unique flavor and gameplay has been replaced with something dull and droll. I got back into the game as a warmup for HoT. As Long as NPE is a thing, I’d rather play anything else.

Yeah, I haven’t been lvling up any alt for 1 year now. Not intending to go through this boring process neither skipping stuff just to reach high lvl (using scrolls. What’s the fun in this?).

I had been having no issues until I tried story and an annoying bug made me waste coins with WP…

I and a friend went to start the HoT story and headed to Red Bastion and we entered the Prologue instance. At first we thought weird that an invite wasn’t sent when my friend entered first but after I entered I saw we both together. Then we followed stuff until the area after Amber Sandfall and my friend entered the instance and I got invited to it.

Then we both played Torn from the Sky together with it being my friend’s instance and then I accepted the progress, then we left the instance. However, my friend was put right at Verdant Brink entrance while I was put back at Red Bastion within Prologue instance, as if I had done nothing! Then I walked all my way back to past Amber Sandfall just to discover that I had no exit thing (that green star floating on ground) and the big portal to next map was blocked, with a huge prohibited sign! I even tried that /stuck command, but it just put me back at Red Bastion again. :S

I had no way out that instance other than waste coins by waypointing to one of the Silverwastes waypoints and I was “lucky” enough to choose a contested one, then I was sent to Camp Resolve Waypoint. And then I had to walk all my way past Amber Sandfall again to reach the portal to Verdant Brink, as I had no waypoint to that map yet -_-

Really really very annoying way to start…

And here we are, 2 days from HoT launch and this dumb NPE still around… I’m still in hope that something might change with HoT launch but who knows…

Meanwhile, I gonna share a real case that just confirms what I said a while back: with game going free to play the NPE would be going to be really tested. When core went free to play I told a friend to come and try it, he was interested for some time now but the price was the barrier for him. Anyway, he still didn’t come but he told me that a few friends of him started playing. I went told him to offer my contact to his friends and add me in-game then we could play or I could offer a help if they needed.

Days later, I asked my friend about them and guess what? Ta-da, he told me that his friends stopped playing. :P When I asked my friend why they stopped the simply answer was: they got bored. I asked for a few more details and I was told they thought it boring, with no much to do, with the same things over and over… I even asked my friend to ask them to write down their experience then I could share it here with more details.

Anyway, it just shows that’s how I expected: if new f2p players dislike it they will simply stop and move on, that would really show how successful or not the NPE has been for newcomers. A paid player wouldn’t give up so easily and would stick around a bit more, their money must worth after all.

One year later and I still hope the devs will really evaluate the impact of these ideas to the first impression the game has been giving now.

Screen goes black for 4-8 seconds and then recovers.

It wouldn’t be a big thing if it was merely a glitch for me, but in my case it doesn’t come back, my only option is to relog :S

Black Screen of Death

Well, it seems someone necroed an old thread. Anyway, I have been having this black screen issue for months now: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Wth-Constants-disconnects-and-black-screens

Simply that: screen goes black out of nowhere, no signal of lag, no signal of crash coming, no signal of disconnect, no crash report window… just poof, black screen. When it happens I can’t do anything but see the cursor, or hit F11 and enter options or hit Ctrl+F12 to bring up Logout screen, but I can’t log out neither go to Character Selection screen. Also music and ambient sounds keeps playing but for others I’m not there anymore (disconnected). My only option is close the game via Alt+F4 and restart. Very very annoying. :S

dodging doesn’t work while channeling a revive. But everything I mentioned in my post works, and if you’re a necromancer, entering/leaving death shroud will also instantly cancel a revive.

Yup I know, but in my case there are moments that triggering skills or others won’t stop reviving, no idea why.

Bind a key to weapon stow.

This stops all active animations, including revive.

Hmm, stow? You mean like swapping between “ready to combat” and “weapon resting” (on back per ex.)? (Not native english speaker here :P) If so I have a key bind to it but I never used it while reviving. Gonna give it a try.

Not saying this is a “fix” or that it will work for everyone, but this is how I handle it.

If I am reviving a player and need to move I will simply tap my “move backwards” button (or ‘s’ in my case) one time and that cancels the reviving action. I can then move, dodge, attack, w/e easily.

Yup, as you even said it wouldn’t work for everyone. From what I recall I haven’t been able to leave reviving action by moving back, even dodging fails. :S

Using a skill, swapping weapons, or pressing a movement key will cancel the reviving animation. Mashing movement keys doesn’t seem to be as responsive as activating a skill or swapping weapons though.

Not actually. For several times I have tried to cancel reviving by moving away, shooting skills and even dodging, none of them worked. In my case, the most reliable way to cancel it is by jumping or something. It’s really frustrating when you are being attacked but can’t defend you and your ally because the game prioritizes reviving. In fact, it’s unreliable as it can act differently in certain cases.

It’s no use to prioritize reviving when you can be vulnerable to attacks and then making the reviving skill completely useless (how can you help someone if you also get downed?). I think it could prevent you from small movements or hitting skills when having no target while reviving, because those could be done accidentally, but it should prioritize skills when under attack as well dodging without question.

What do you mean with not being able to sell it? My first suspicion is where it is in your inventory. Do you have any invisible bag? If so, check if the item is in it. Items in invisible bags won’t show up in TP and vendors.

And after a little dig in my posts history, I found the first official statement I saw about the issue a while back, explaining it as I did in my first post here:

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the search engine ever worked? If so, when did it stop working? I’m not sure that I recall that it ever worked, but I could be mistaken.

In any case, I’m having a difficult time understanding why exactly the forum search engine would be broken for so long and/or be so difficult to fix. Nearly every forum on the internet has a working search engine; it’s not brand-new cutting-edge technology. Honestly, is ANet doing so poorly financially that it cannot afford to have forum tools that work?

The problem is deep within the technology behind the forum structure itself. Yes, we had a search engine in the beginning, but it was broken by our forum contractor in the course of working on other things. We no longer have a relationship with that contractor or his company, and someone else is not able to step into the system and fix the search engine because (1) our programmers are tasked with other essential work, (2) the forums run on a web framework with which most of our programmers are not familiar and (3) we’re investigating other options for forums and it would not be prudent to pour money into hiring someone to fix this as a short-term solution.

My team agrees that it would be great to share the system that is outlined in the OP, and we’re going to figure out a way to do that. It won’t be as simple as “plumbing” the current search window to go to Google — each of us still will need to input the search manually, but it’s better than the current “poke and prod” to find a particular post!

Because I see nothing saying so. Nothing mentioning who developed it. So I’m thinking it was developed by ANET.

Yes, but it’s not so clear in the source code, but there are evidences. However, if you use the Subscribe option with a RSS reader you will see that it says “Fangamer” in the feed title.

Long story short: they are very aware about the issue and are also annoyed by it, but they haven’t been able to fix it or change it because they used a third party software that’s no longer supported, and no one there was able or had chances to learn how stuff works in order to be able to fix it.

Ordinarily this would only ping up any given icon in that area – say you hovered over the vista icon – it would only ping revealed vistas for the map you’re on, i.e. Lions Arch.

As far as I know, the portrait of a character in the party UI is a snapshot of the char from the moment he/she entered a map/instance/the party. This includes transformations and/or the current expression on his/her face, and also slight variations in positioning, depending on where in the idle animation the character currently was.

So “moving” or changing portrait pictures are normal.

Really? I have never noticed any different expression or positions, usually they always look serious and facing the same direction (usually head a little down). I never noticed other expressions like smile, frowning and stuff. Hmm… However, yes I have noticed that booblehead can change how it is displayed.

Lag surely can affect it but it’s not directly related to lag. Lag just makes it worse. There have been cases where I wasn’t having any lag at all, ping was low and stuff and even so I kept being overshot, even then when using that tethering thing that should put me in its exact place.

Yeah I noticed it too. I was in party with a friend and the dot was blue. They swapped chars and then their dot became yellow. It wouldn’t matter if I relog, it would always show as yellow (I crashed several times and when I came back it was the same way). I even took a screenshoot to report it on forums (and to show to my friend as my dot was still blue for them).

I also want to point out that it wasn’t a good change (if intended), that yellow dot is harder to spot than the blue one. Not to mention the known fact that it doesn’t show up when out of minimap range.

From the OP’s comments, it sounds like he/she might have had them as a collector’s item, and likely knows they aren’t of any actual use. It’s certainly not unprecedented for gamers to collect ingame items that are no longer available or used in the game. I know of quite a few people that do this, and even have a few of such items myself.

Yeah, not unusual indeed. Even myself, I still have a few items like stuff from Scarlet events and the battle for LA. I had kept them in hope they could be used in a future trade, but for now they just sit in an alt’s inventory as historic items.

And it seems to be fixed. Main menu now plays custom playlist again. Even better, now it randomizes the first song too (Yup, it played a different song after a relog)

Mesmer

  • Shatter Skills: Updated the description of these skills to include the effects added when Illusionary Persona functionality was made baseline.
  • Arcane Thievery: Updated this skill to transfer blindness.
  • Chaotic Dampening: Increased the recharge reduction from 2% to 2.5%.
  • Duelist’s Discipline: Fixed a bug that prevented this trait from granting a bleeding chance to your Illusionary Duelist. Lowered bleeding stacks applied by this skill from 2 to 1.
  • Fencer’s Finesse: Fixed a bug that caused this trait to apply ferocity when reflecting projectiles. Fixed a bug that could cause the ferocity boon to be applied when attacking with weapons other than swords.
  • Harmonious Mantras: Increased the duration from 8 seconds to 10 seconds.
  • Inspiring Distortion: Updated this trait to prevent the distortion granted from being applied to objects.
  • Null Field: Updated the skill description and skill facts to reflect that this skill removes boons and conditions on pulses.
  • Phantasmal Disenchanter: Reduced the attack recharge by 2 seconds. The attack from this phantasm is now referred to as “Disenchanting Bolt” in the combat log.
  • Portal Entre: Updated this skill to show an icon for the duration that you have to place the exit portal. Fixed a bug that could cause a noninteractable portal entrance to remain in the world if the mesmer died before casting the Portal Exeunt skill.
  • Prismatic Understanding: Fixed a bug that prevented this trait from functioning while downed. Reduced the stealth duration increase from 100% to 50%.
  • Signet of the Ether: Updated this skill to include an additional pulsing heal when no illusions are present.
  • Temporal Curtain: Removed functionality that prevented the swiftness applied by this skill from applying to allies that already had swiftness. Now applies 12 seconds of swiftness to allies the first time they cross the wall and 1 second of swiftness to allies that cross it again after receiving the initial swiftness.
  • The Pledge: Fixed an incorrect skill fact that displayed the recharge reduction as a percentage instead of a duration.
  • Mind Slash: Increased damage by 10%.
  • Mind Gash: Increased damage by 10%.
  • Mind Spike: Increased damage to targets without boons by 10%.

Character Teleporting randomly

Usually, when the game crashed or loses connection with servers due whatever reason during a teleport or map changes it may cause the server to get lost on where your last position was, in this case, you are usually put at a default location, that can be some map entrance or even the center of map (once I happened to be put in the exact center of Lion’s Arch). What I mean is that what can be happening is the server isn’t having time to store your last position or it’s not storing it for who knows reason, then it tries to “guess” where you were and is unable to then it puts you on one of those default locations. Or even more, it can assume that a teleport or map change failed (like attempting to go to a contested WP) and then it takes you to the nearest WP.

Not crashing here but update is slow as a snail. Also, how big is this update? At 34 Mb it was still 0% with 60,000 files left? O.o Not to mention the download stops every and then :S

I’ve sent this request through in-game already a couple of weeks ago with no response. I was trying to get to a point of interest on top of some boxes in the Grand plaza, had to log off suddenly and when I came back I’ve fallen through and was stuck in the box (have used waypoint to escape cough

Oh true. I had only custom songs for Main menu, then I had only a MainMenu.wpl file, and after latest patch my custom songs for menu stopped, the default ones played instead. After reading these posts I renamed it to Ambient.wpl and voila, the custom songs played on Main Menu.

So confirmed, MainMenu.wpl is ignored and it uses Ambient.wpl if there is such file. :S

Hard to tell by the message but new hardware can cause issues at times, then just for testing sake I would suggest to unplug it for now and see if the issue is gone. If not then it’s not the culprit.

However I admit I never saw such error then I can’t think about any suggestions right away. Possibly overclocking problem as mentioned, but if you never did such thing then gotta think of something else.

Blue Screening?

Hmm, 8 Gb RAM on a 64 bits system… not my first suspect then. And yeah, without knowing what the blue screen says we can just guess and do several troubleshoots in order to find a reason.

Did it show up to quickly so you could see it? If so, try to disable restarting on system failure: Just after you turn on comp (just after that BIOS screen and before the OS logo shows up), keep pressing F8 until a menu shows up. In that menu choose something like “disable restart on system failure” (can’t recall properly, but something like that). Next time a blue screen happens the system won’t restart but stay in the blue screen time enough for you to read it, you would need to restart manually in this case.

Firstly, let’s know your environment. What OS are you using? Is it 32 or 64 bits? How much of RAM? Can you get what the blue screen says?

Blue screen usually means hardware issues, mostly memory related. I wouldn’t say it’s connection related then let’s put it aside for now.

At least if they said “hey, we know, not important” it would be nice.

I wouldn’t hold my breath hoping that. Usually they don’t come just to say “yes, we know that” unless it’s a critical issue or demands some more explanation. But also it doesn’t mean they aren’t aware, there have been several issues with threads and threads with no dev response and the issue got fixed occasionally.

It’s not a bug. When you complete a story step with another player, it asks if you wish to accept progress and advance to “name of next story step.” If you want to keep playing with that other player and accept progress, it will move you both to the next step together, even if your character normally wouldn’t follow that storyline. The alternate would be to NEVER allow you to accept progress, which would make playing co-op rather annoying, since you’d have to play each story step once for every player.

Here we go again… Could someone please tell me wth was it designed this way? I still can’t understand why messing up with player’s story arc just for co-op sake. What happens if progress isn’t accepted? Would the player need to play that step again (in their story arc of course)? Why forcing players to be put on someone’s story arc even if temporarily? Really, I still don’t get why it was designed this way.

Also, couldn’t that prompt be more user friendly and tell exactly what’s going to happen when you accept progress (big texts, warning and stuff, not merely an almost missable text)? Don’t all these threads and reports tell how confusing is this feature? If a player wants to follow someone else’s in their next story step they can simply join them again in the next instance, simply put. Simple rule for any software design: never expect the user will do and guess exactly what you think they should do or know.

Auto-focus was a workaround for some technical limitations that we believe are fixed, so yes, we should be able to remove it sometime here.
