The boon duration buff is enough to keep it in the meta simply because of quickness sharing on chrono.

Dont know why people keep claiming rev is not in top tier dps. It clearly is. Just because it doesnt do as much as extreme aoe abuse from ele and scorched earth abuse doesnt mean its low dps. You cant compare to broken damage and say its not top just because its not AS broken as the others. It comes down to one single truth. An auto attack should not be that strong.

Im in support of shroud becoming a selectable utility slot in the future. Im also in support of elite spec weapons becoming available without the use of elite spec. I dont support giving us access to both shrouds at the same time though.

I believe using weapons freely is essential for long term customisation and appeal on classes, especially when we have multiple elite specs and new weapons to choose from. The shroud choice i think is less important. But it is a nice idea which would help with future build customisation.

Ive still yet to see anyone pull off this so called top tier dps on engi btw. Can someone link me a video.

Ive seen very good dps on engi. But nothing that warrants a nerf due to the skill cap required to pull that level off. And the max level ive seen doesnt seem to be as high as everyone keeps making it out to be.

Yeah see i dont usually advocate nerfs. Because i think a bit of powercreep is good for the game. But lets be honest its a bit much right now. And the powercreep is stacked onto the classes/places which were already strong. Theres only two solutions. Nerf the outliers or buff the rest. Since we already have a lot of powercreep nerfing seems like the only viable option.

Im not lobbying for everyone else to get nerfed. Im lobbying for the clearly over the top factors to get toned down. Id say the same thing for reaper if there was anything that was broken on it but anet have always been very careful with necro (see cast times and cooldowns on reaper compared to revenant). So far the only broken thing on necro is a gimmicky niche usage of epidemic and jagged horrors on Sabetha.

And just to go on record. I would be perfectly fine with revenant achieving as much dps as it does if it had a much greater skill requirement to pull off. Its baffling that people think an auto attack that strong is balanced.

Actually this isnt that strong on classes without burn. Burn is the culprit for over the top condition damage, not condi duration on its own.

Its not terrible dps. Thats some major hyperbole.

Nerf Gravedigger, has more DPS than rev AA, and is easier rotation than revenant AA.

Rev auto and gravedigger do the same purely coefficient wise. Rev has more modifiers and rev auto is more reliable than gravedigger. And it can be used at all times. Gravedigger spam is only below 50% and is easily interrupted which causes major dps loss. But i sense you arent being serious. :P

Ive been suggesting buffs to necro for 3 years. Id continue to do so if i thought it would get anywhere. But history says otherwise. Besides that doesnt really solve the problem for anything other than necro. There would still be major class imbalances. I also dont think reaper dps is in a bad place objectively speaking. I feel its around the level that should be max dps. Shame the rest of the classes also got major power creeps as well.

And looking at the bigger picture. These nerfs would make the enrage timers tighter. Surely thats a good thing for those of us seeking challenge?

AA only dps is terrible and to repeat myself again, yes the class should be more rotational for its dps.

Cant take you seriously when you say something like this. The auto attack alone does better dps than a full reaper rotation. And Reaper doesnt even have bad dps.

And what doesnt show up in the combat log? Conditions, life steal etc all show up.

Your just getting hung up on the fact that i brought up revenant auto dps first. Even though you know im correct in terms of ideal balance philosophies. Revenant is in the top with those others its just as much a target as the others for warranted damage shaves.

You should keep your bias out of these discussions. Saying “nerf these first before you nerf this” is just silly.

PS. One of the main reasons im so against rev auto is because its just that, a disproportionately high damage auto attack. There is no skill requirement for high dps on auto attacks. Obviously you have to do more to get max dps on rev. But if just auto attacking on rev can yield higher dps than full rotations on other classes then theres clearly a problem.

Revenant will be meta even without its broken damage. Dont see why you are so against minor nerfs to bring equality among the other classes. Power creeping the classes to get equality is not going to happen and it shouldnt happen. So the classes that are too high on the damage table need to be brought down a notch especially if they already have indispensable other roles (this goes for all classes in this category, not just revenant). It doesnt make sense to give a class some of the best utility roles and the best damage at the same time. I dont understand why people dont get the logic of this concept.

Look at chronomancer. Its absolutely amazing for utility and unique buffs. But its damage is rather mediocre. Thats perfect balance wise. Its how it should be. The only classes that should be top dps are the ones which have very little utility and group buffing.

Really? Thats news to me since i havent had a problem running it without stun break, ranged weapons etc. Blood fiend allows you to maintain scholar very easily. And you can just sacrifice it and swap out flesh golem to avoid aggro.

This is just a baseline build anyway. You can swap the dagger for an axe and take different utilities for different situations. No idea why you think builds are completely static.

Not really. Works fine in open world as well. For solo stuff everything dies so fast you dont need self buffing. For zerging stuff you should have plenty of buffs anyway.

Im not tunnel visioning. Revenants auto is stronger than any auto in game and its unconditional unlike gravedigger. Thats not right. It needs to be shaved down slightly. If its 1.4 coef per second instead of 1.5 it still beats gravedigger purely on auto attack just because of damage modifiers. Auto-attacks should not be that strong on any class. Gravedigger should be the only exception to this rule since its very conditional, slow and easily rupted causing major dps loss.

Rev would not need buffs elsewhere to bring the class back. My entire point is revenant does too much damage overall considering how useful it is as a buffer and auto-attack is the one part of that which isnt justifiable. Warrior could also do with being dropped down a notch. The only reason i suggest these is because i know for certainty they wont buff necro damage further. They have never once made a change like that to bring classes in line. Its always been nerfs. Im not suggesting huge nerfs. Im suggesting very minor ones. Most players wouldnt even notice the difference.

PS. I dont know if you realise. But most auto-attacks are about 1.2 or lower coeffs per second. Rev sword being 1.5 is huge especially with all the easy big damage modifiers they get. If you ignore rift explosions the auto is still 1.4 per second…

rev auto isnt what makes revenant dps strong and if they nerf it they will have to rework the class entirely.

Well it clearly is a big factor since it has the same coefficient per second as gravedigger and the class has way more damage modifiers….

And i dont see how they would need to rework it. Just tone the numbers down slightly. And reduce the damage modifiers from 7% to 5%. If its brought down to 1.3 per second instead of 1.5 then its still very strong but not brokenly strong on a buffer class.

Berserker gear, scholar runes, force and air sigils (energy instead of air if you want more defence). Traits are Spite (112), Blood(231) and Reaper (232). Use greatsword and dagger/focus, both damaging wells and Signet of Spite or flexible utility if you need something extra. Blood fiend for heal. And elite would be flesh golem most of the time. But you may want to use lich form or CttB in some situations.

Yeah they are pretty balanced on around 2600 armour. But most bosses seem to have more than that.

What’s great is I think they are basing it off of your info from the betas.

I dont think i ever made conclusive statements during beta. Other people were doing that. I provided some numbers saying greatsword needs to be buffed because it wasnt that strong. I dont believe i did any direct comparisons other than for the auto attack (but that doesnt mean anything because greatsword has other skills and i never expected it to have a better auto-attack than dagger). And it was buffed during the next beta anyway. So yeah…. :/

Gorseval has “normal” armour though Sabetha receives a bit less damage from power specs.

Except on gorseval ive noticed much less direct damage than on VG. Im not really sure what “normal” armour is. But the standard 2600 armour i would actually consider as high armour. Especially since condition damage is so good now that a boss has to have “low” armour for direct damage to be a clear winner in non burst situations.

Talk about a “Lack of Sense of Humor.” I just happened across this necro’d thread from a month ago. Is this the mindset of people too dense to see that Anet prided themselves on the relative difficulty of the raids and were making a joke about it causing tears?

No. It’s just many people dislike when jokes are being made at their expense.

Then they should get good so they aren’t the punchline.

That being I don’t even do Raids, not because they are too hard but because I have no interest.

I have done Fractals and have the Dungeon Master Title (big whoopee lol) and have completed them (not purchased paths that is robbing yourself of the fun).

Necro needs damage buff

First of all Silv is talking complete bull about damage above and below 50%. Below 50% you have gravedigger auto and other priority skills such as wells and nightfall are still worth casting at all times. Then above 50% dagger auto is equal to greatsword auto in direct damage. If you take deathly chill then greatsword wins out. Even with more lifesteal procs on dagger. If you then factor in gravedigger every 8 seconds and nightfall greatsword is better than dagger even above 50%.

But you should be using both above 50% health. A full rotation with dagger/focus, greatsword and shroud yields the best results above 50%.

Second there is definitely some truth to this concern. Direct damage Reaper feels like it hits hard and it does sort of. Except its not quite good enough. Personally i think the sustained dps is not far off. I would however suggest increasing burst. And to do this it would mean buffing damage on skills like nightfall, Well of Suffering and Well of Corruption. But that might have to come with a PvP split for obvious reasons.

Although my ideal solution would be to give us aoes that deal damage like meteor shower and icestorm. But i dont see that coming without a new elite spec. Shadow storm anyone?

Another way to solve the problem would be to give us more damage modifiers. The only reason an auto attacking sword rev/herald out dps’s everything is because the devs were generous enough to give them so many damage modifiers. Yet necro has always been and has remained one of the classes with the weakest and fewest damage modifiers.

They should have just added more agony slots (infused/attuned amulets and accessories could work) or reduced the agony requirement forfractal 100 or reduced the cost on crafting larger agony infusions.

I dont see them rectifying this anytime soon so im going to just try get get as much agony stacked on the attuned rings and backpiece so i can use +5 omni infusions in the future.

Well its nice that you have friends that havent cleared the raid on the first day. The only people we have that havent cleared it are those that want to. So someone who hasnt capped shards has to sit out.

A reset makes sense though. Rewards are capped. I dont know why we cant manually reset like in almost every other MMO with raids.

Hitting the shard cap is voluntarily and not mandatory. It isn’t grind to put in additional rewards for additional clears. I’m not sure what the big deal is.

The fact that you cant just reset and clear it again without swapping players. Some are always going to get the short end of the stick until we can manually reset.

Has to be human for aesthetics. Sylvari is second best option in that regard. But the human racial skills are also pretty decent. And the starter story is a bit more detailed for humans. Plus its the only race from gw1. So theres the whole heritage thing.

Asuras are glorfied rats with ugly animations. And you cant see their armour or weapons properly. Complete waste of a race. Norns feel slow and sluggish and their size limits the types of armour which look good on them. Charr have clipping issues and who the hell wants to be a giant smelly fat cat. And then sylvari are ok but then you have to deal with being a vegetable.

Disclaimer: No offense meant to any rats, vegetables, fat cats or boisterous oafs.

Valk gives no gain over zerk if you are using budget consumables. Zerk is better on the split phases for vale and gorseval. Also better for cannons if you are doing that (no idea why you wouldnt play condi on sabetha though).

Valk is only worth investing in if you plan to use furious maintenance oil and have an organised group that will keep you fully buffed at all times. Very few groups fit this criteria. Hence it is a rather silly idea to recommend that most players take valk gear just because precision is wasted some of the time.

Valkyrie is only worth taking in organised groups that will ensure 100% vuln up time and other precision buffs. I would always recommend berserkers for the majority of players and situations.

And then Vipers is best for condi obviously. Currently it seems condi reaper is better in raids so this might be what you want to go for. Its a little disappointing for me as power reaper is so much more fun to play. But I guess i should just be happy that reapers are now finally in a decent spot for groups.

Not sure what punishing of old players you are talking about. Of course an expansion is going to cost money. They just offered a good deal to new players to entice them. Its selfish entitlement to feel bitter about that.

And no i dont regret it at all. I was on the brink of quitting due to overwhelming boredom. I had actually pretty much quit before release. I was only logging on to check how things were going and following the news. HoT has brought me back to a relatively motivated state. I dont have the time to play much anymore but i do actually want to. So i cant say it was a bad expansion.

Could there have been more? Yes. Could some things have been done better? Of course yes. Am i disappointed with some changes and new directions? Yes, definitely. But overall its brought me back to a point where i can enjoy the game again. So no i do not regret buying HoT and staying. And i do think the expansion was needed and a good thing.

Obviously the ones where no stats have been chosen are the best.

Items with selectable stats don’t have separate item IDs as far as I know, so it shouldn’t matter whether the stats were selected or not. Put it in the MF, spit out an attuned ring with selectable stats, just like they did with ring infusion. I honestly don’t see what the problem is aside from someone doing a half- kitten d job.

I’d rather see data on how many of them still exist. Fairly certain the numbers put the issue at the very bottom of the list.

Enough that there are plenty of people complaining about it, but it doesn’t matter if I was the only player in the game affected by it. An issue is an issue.

Except the mystic forge destroys what you put in and spits out a new item. I severely doubt anet are going to create new attuned versions of ancient rings.

Its not like you cant keep using those rings. You dont need AR for raids. Just put stat infusions in them for non fractal content and get a new set of rings for fractals.

What I meant is that it would convert your unique light band with berserker stats into an attuned crystalline band. So you lose any evidence you ever had one of those old rings. I’m pretty sure you don’t want that based on your op.

I assume you are talking about the old discontinued magic find rings which got turned into 1 time stat selection rings. It doesnt surprise me that they didnt fix those. And to be honest it wouldnt surprise me if they couldnt fix them without them being converted into generic stat related attuned rings. So you are better off sucking it up and keeping those for non fractal stuff and using new ones for fractals.

Gorseval for the reason Nike stated and also because its just a much more fun and engaging fight. Also the most visually awesome boss of the three.

Vale has so much room for error i cant say it gave any satisfaction other than “finally! We should have beaten that much sooner”. Plus we already knew about it from beta.

Sabetha just feels too much like a fight against the arena rather than a boss. The boss needs to take a bit more centre stage for it to be fun. Plus we never had dps problems on that fight so the satisfaction wasnt there since initial failures were just because people were missing launches or getting firewalled stupidly. Not because the enrage was tight or the mechanics were particularly challenging.

Why? You have quickening thirst/locust signet/speed of shadows and potentially a lot of swiftness. Ive never understood why some necros still go for movement speed runes. It makes sense on some classes for QoL. But not on necro.

Even if you cant maintain the scholar bonus for much at all. Its still one of the best choices. Its the only runeset that has no wasted stats for necro and a damage modifier.

Strength runes are also fine. But the might duration is kind of useless in a group and you lose ferocity. Plus strength runes are over the top expensive.

Tanking as a necro

Yes. I’ve tanked on gorse with both Condi and power. I used death magic for the toughness. So I lost blood. I could have kept it if I went base necro Condi. But I think even with blood you lack sustain as Condi tank. I was very reliant on our druid. Whereas on power I was completely self sufficient as berserker tank (didn’t use death, just had food or toughness infusion).

I wouldn’t recommend it for anything but well coordinated players and a healer that has the freedom to heal you a little more than usual.

Because i was not aware of furious maintenance oil and that it was creating an advantage over toxic sharpening stones. You still dont “need” the extra vitality. It only serves the purpose of a dps increase in this case. For the general player i would still recommend berserker though.

Im always open to new ideas. But the arguements people always made for valkyrie never had any real grounds for convincing me. Regular Sharpening stones dont create an advantage and i didnt know furious maintenance oil existed until recently (blame that on partial inactivity).
