hot join = a place to try new classes or new builds. Winning or losing isn’t as important
There are lots of builds out there, but one will always be considered “optimal” for any given class. For warrior alone I could name like 5 or 6 builds. It is inevitable that they will be tested, compared, and that one will achieve dominance over the others.
If they keep buffing every time they nerf they will never stop the power creep that is currently very problematic with this game.
In the first ~8 months of the game it was mostly nerfs and bugfixes going out. That was fine. In the last ~6 months they seemed to change their philosophy (based on misguided advice from the playerbase, unfortunately) and started buffing things that were less used. Many of these buffs have turned into something from the Little Shop of Horrors. Spirit changes, necro changes, warrior changes – these buffs all were disastrous. For reasons I do not understand, instead of reverting or toning down the buffs, they have continued on the path of nerfing things unrelated to the buff in an attempt to bring things back into line (spirits OP? lets nerf healing spring. dhumfire OP? lets nerf terror and bleed stacks. Signet OP? lets nerf stun duration on all classes).
The devs need to know when to suck it up and roll back or tone down changes they made instead of spiraling further down into the abyss. They are currently playing the very game of Whack-a-mole they have stated so many times they want to avoid in State of the Game webcasts earlier this year.
It is NOT bad advice to make less used weapon sets and skills more powerful. That adds to a more dynamic game. The issue is that if ANET over buffs or under nerfs items, they do not fix the mistake. Itself they add a whole series of other counters that results in a game that is never balanced.
It is not the thief problem in my opinion, but a way how the game works, this game since its DPS based, full DPS classes (or classes designed to be the main DPS’s) will always be stronger than others that have more support skills no matter how many nerfs possible, all classes need a serious workout wich is a problem that is being hided becouse most only blob and spam 1 key.
Tell that to a regen warrior. They are stronger than any DPS class.
As for the OP: I like the thread. I miss all the thief QQ threads. Unfortunately, most good players can easily beat a thief these days so it is nice to know there are still some people that thieves can beat.
Please make sure that contesting takes a decent sized force before it can become contested.
Kind of stupid one person can fart on a gate and contest the waypoint.
Agreed ^^
First off, I am a supporter of waypoints in WvW. That said, I don’t think they should be used the way they currently can be; as of now, when contested, a waypoint will open up (briefly) between the expiry of one “contest” and start of a new one. Is this working as intended?
In my opinion, allowing this functionality to persist simply encourages WvW’ers to roam the map in huge zergs, knowing that they can waypoint to their keep and defend (within 3 mins) even while contested. I realize that the attacking side can (and should) plan for a quick take, and have the keep taken in less than 3 minutes, but a lot of things have to go right in order for this to happen.
I think that by making waypoints remain contested for the entirety of a keep siege would reduce the amount of “blobbing” we see on the map since forces would have to be spread more evenly across a map in order to defend what they have already taken (also makes it progressively harder to hold things as you acquire more and more real estate on a map). This would hopefully encourage more small group play and reduce server skill lag since battles (on average) should be smaller and less taxing on the servers.
Thoughts?
You are wrong. It will not impact zergs at all. If anything, it will encourage MORE zerging. Why? It is safer in a zerg. Why would I want to roam if that means when I die, I have to run back further than before?
If a zerg dies, everyone just regroups anyway. Again, no impact on the zerg.
Also, you think this will help with defense. All it will do is make this even more of an offense based game. Let’s face it. Defense is boring. Why would I sentry with a few others when I’ll be facing a zerg with no hope of additional defenders coming once the battle begins? Again, this will encourage people to zerg more.
While I understand the idea, it won’t work as you intend.

My guess is healing signet lower HPS but can be improved more with healing power.
Unsuspecting foe moved up.
This would be ideal. I like the idea of the base of healing signet cut by a good amount and a significant boost to its tie with healing power. If a warrior wants to run around in all clerics, they should heal for more than today. If they want to run around in soldiers or zerkers, the heal should be much less.
So I played the opening mission for this week’s update. At one point, the allied NPC becomes an enemy. That made me think… why not do that for players. So, here is my idea:
1. Have a small zone near the tower that when anyone enters, it acts like a hallucinogen.
2. In this one area, players can go and fight each other using their existing gear
3. The zone should be put in an area where it would be completely optional for someone to enter (in other words, doesn’t impact the PvE only people)
I can’t think of a good reason not to do it.
TC is in a transition right now, too. The most dominant guild split about a week ago with more than half of them moving to Sea of Sorrows. We still have a couple of very strong guilds and good commanders, but are seeing plenty of unknowns tag up as well. We are still seeing how things will shake out.
I wouldn’t say they are the most dominant. They were a really skilled tagless roaming guild. Their leader is a fantastic commander, but I think he got tired of the large zerg and wanted smaller, well coordinated fights. They weren’t big enough to change the position of TC as #4.
Sigil of Para was fixed; helped a lot of the stun issue.
You play a thief? S/D only removes ONE boon now…still has 338568238628712985986326532963240960434098760428923523068094782052982986583023762304923609487430698430905834232863209823086936 evades in a row, so no QQ from you is allowed
dude thief is bottom tier now, get with the times.
caed quit
Thief is bottom tier against good players of any other class. It is still good against killing noobs though.
Warrior is not the old D\D ele because even the OP ele had to press dozens of buttons but the current warrior only uses 3 .
^
and not only that, the old D/D ele would be ashamed of today’s warrior, old D/D today would be balanced among all the other OP stuff in the game.
Wrong. The Old D/D ele would still be OP today. I think you forget how many nerfs it has received.
In Oceanic, queues aren’t really a big deal. That said, since this is your first character, I’d select based on the PvE presence. Once you level up, you can always switch at that point.
I posted earlier, but let’s make this really easy
1. WvW server does not need to equal PvE server
2. In January, allow for signups to the 24 new WvW servers (This way a guild can coordinate and all go to the same one)
3. Keep server population the same on all 24 servers (in other words, set a max number, only increase that number when all servers are at capacity)
There. Balanced WvW.
Well people asked for progression in WvW and thats what they got
Did anyone ask for progression? I don’t remember too many players saying it was the biggest issue. I do remember people talking about skill lag, server population, class balancing, lack of new maps, a horrible commander system, hacking, and too much pve in WvW.
There is another thread on this, but I’ll summarize it. Most people think it is a really bad idea. ANET is the exception and the only vote that counts though.
hahahahahahahahahaha. Nice troll thread.
EDIT :
Why can’t Living Story effect WvW? Random events, temporary event themed siege, and incentive to get into wvw regardless if winning or losing. Have events randomly ‘attack’ structures! Just anything that can break up the mundane pace that wvw slips back into during lopsided match ups.Right now, for servers that blow out the score, they get bored of easy matchups, and losing servers just keep dying out or go into a none competitive state of mind (IE Karma Train) which is basically farming in PvE but in WvW.
You should work for ANET since you seem to think alike.
The problem though is that people go to WvW to fight other players. If they want PvE, they can do that.
Speaking of leaving, Why did KH leave? I miss them…
Gold Wars 2?
I doubt it, I hear they went to SoS…or was it mag…I don’t know, hearsay and all…
EP moved to SoS, and KH to Mag. If I were to guess, it was to get out of the queues and skill lag and salvage some fun for the 7 weeks of Season 1. I would not be surprised in the slightest to see them both back on TC when Season 1 is over. I personally hold both guilds in high regard.
Both are great guilds, they just play at different times. EP is an NA primetime guild, and KH plays more overnight.
Bad badbadbabdfbabdadbad
Wave of AFK players incomingInteresting catch, that may be the case. Didn’t think about that…. And what about hot-join is it the same way? It auto places you into a new game… I could potentially AFK all day in one of those and just gain glory… hmmmmmmmmmmm. Needs more investigation.
I seriously hope that ANET has thought through this. If they do not take AFK into account, then this whole system will be a horrible change. If they kick people out of the game after 2 minutes or so of AFK, I like the change.
My other main issue with living story. It feels like the focus now is on quantity vs quality. The two week window is too short for the dev team and it is certainly too short for anyone less than a hardcore player. Let me give an example of the problem….
For halloween, a new villain was introduced, the bloody prince. That could be exciting. Instead, there was a small opening story, then as a cut screen in the labyrinth, then a small closing story. That’s it? Very disappointing. So much more could have been done.
and it is halloween. Where is the mad king? (yes, I know he is coming for a couple of days to do mad king says). It was a huge wasted opportunity to build on one of the most unique characters in the game.
Also, last year there was a really fun mini dungeon. It didn’t even appear this year. Why? It just feels like a rushed event. The quality was sadly lacking.
Eles aren’t bad. They are just completely overshadowed by warriors and necros right now. So is every other class though.
50 ranks isn’t too bad.
Killing supply dolyaks is grindy as well as the one for merc camp killer. The third annoying achievement is the demolishist one. Typically only traited people do that.
A build template will not help you. You really need to play how you are comfortable. Start with your PvE spec and then modify it based on what you are doing.
Want to zerg? Get more VT
Want to roam? get swiftness or 25% speed increase
See a warrior? Run
Those are three good points.
lag.
I’m really hoping there is some type of fix tomorrow. Right now about the only thing to do is run in a zerg and press 1.
I’ll keep it short:
Changes that I’d make:
1. First and most important: Eliminate the concept of soul bound. Everything we earn should be account bound.
2. Do not buff existing bosses/dragons. The teq change was a bad idea. It was great while it was the focus, but now there is hardly anyone ever there. It also reduces the accessibility to newer players.
3. Add new items to the world. I liked seeing the elections with the new map area that was opened. It was fun and well built. The new teq dynamics would have been great as a new dragon.
4. Allow content that can be enjoyed as a single player or as a group. It should dynamically adjust to however someone wants to play.
Unfortunately, it is definitely still a problem. Hopefully the ANET queue changes fix this.
I’ll take this from a NA perspective. We currently have 24 servers. The end goal should be 24 evenly matched servers. There are multiple ways to handle this:
1. Make transfer price be dynamic based on a server’s current rank. If someone wants to go to T1, make it 3000 gems. If they want to go to T8, make it free. The other tiers would adjust accordingly.
2. Change scoring to reflect map presence. If you outnumber the opponent, you get fewer points.
Ok, so those are the boring two. Here is the much more exciting idea:
1. Create a season 2 league in early 2014.
2. Create 24 open servers with an even number of max players
3. On a particular day, let people sign up for any of those 24 servers (this way guilds can coordinate which one to join)
4. Once all 24 servers reach their max capacity, increase the capacity on all servers by a certain number.
5. This would essentially start us with a league with even numbers. People can still sign up any any point during the league following the same approach.
6. Have one schedule with all 24 teams that would run for 8 weeks. Teams would earn points similar to season 1
7. At the end of the season, there would be one week where 1-3, 4-6, etc could play each other for the final rankings.
@OP:
You miss the point completely. Warriors shouldn’t be worse than every other class. They just shouldn’t be OP. They are currently OP.
I’m in favor of the following:
1. Ranked 1v1 (it will also help determine balance issues if the top of the boards are dominated by one class/spec)
2. Team deathmatch. 5v5 would be ideal with custom arenas allowing for other number options.
What I am not in favor of:
1. GvG. The PvP game mode is too basic to handle that. Selecting an amulet and a sigil is way to basic. I’d rather see GvG build into WvW since there are so many other options such as gear, food, etc. Options = more strategy which is good.
warriors are not OP. you just dont know how to deal with them. these qq threads about warriors are getting old and boring.
next please…
Everyone except for warriors know they are OP
Eles needed nerfs. Everyone except for eles knew that. Just like a year ago thieves needed nerfs. Everyone except for thieves knew that. Just like a couple of months ago, spirit rangers needed nerfs. Everyone except for rangers knew that. Now warriors and necros need nerfs. Hopefully that will be coming.
Another warrior.
This ^^. Currently the only counter.
If your ping is that bad, plan on dying a lot on any class. I’d say your best bet is to go with some type of ranged approach.
I do wonder for next week…. if Mag and TC were to align, could one of them beat JQ?
Agreed. This is a really bad achievement. At the very least, make it so that it counts for either capturing the camp or for “reducing morale” when another server has it capped.
First, it is funny that JQ was basically given the win as a result of the schedule. What’s the most of the league when it was scheduled that way?
Second, ANET should have listened to the forums. 1-3 should have been by themselves for this league. 4-9 or 4-12 should have been together. The best matchups of SoS, Mag, FA, and SBI cannot even happen right now. I understand why ANET wanted the league, but at least make it competitive. Right now it is not.
Wow. It is great to see a thread like this. Ever since the thief has been nerfed into the ground, they don’t get to kill many people anymore. I miss all the QQ threads.
Glad to see there are still a few noobs who die.
Looking forward to a fun reset night and not looking forward to what happens overnight!
Still plenty of guilds on TC worth mentioning.
For fights, RoT EXS CERN and GF when they raid.
For WvW, NOPE PiNk, FLUX, TTC are all solid guilds, plus the unaffiliated players that contribute to these guilds’ efforts. DIS deserves a mention here as well as the REx players and the hopeful revival of MU.Now that Nightlight is back, fighting TC is going to be even more fun. Best of luck TC!
Personally, I hope EP is back to TC at some point. Some guilds just transfer all over the place. EP has been on TC since launch though and that says something.
You can see this coming a mile away. L2dodge
Or try WvW sometime. Dodging is great when you are playing against someone one on one. In WvW, you often need to fight multiple. Dodges are needed for the people who you are fighting against in melee range.
Anyway, give WvW a try sometime. You’ll understand then.
I don’t like your build, I don’t like your video, I don’t even like your playstyle ^_^
Moreover, the simple fact that you think P/D is a difficult build to play with makes me laugh. It’s like, you know, 5 – 1 – 1 – 1 repeat. With the occasional use of utilities (poison venom? YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!)
Ohhh. Another member of the bitter club. Show your amazing skill if you are going to criticize others. If you can’t, then it is better not to make a fool of yourself.
There is nothing entertaining about watching Pistol/Dagger cheese singling out individuals who have very little they can do to stop you, while making no real effective contribution to overall WvW.
P/D is a one-trick pony, and while that trick is undoubtedly very effective, the build has so many fail-safes you’d have to be a toddler not to prevail.
There’s a good reason to use fast-forward and beating music while showing off P/D footage because seeing it in real time would be a bloody snooze-fest.
This is no criticism of your play-style, skill or footage. It’s just that P/D is cheese…and simple cheese as that.
Bitter much?
Was good fights this week will be happy to see you guys again in six weeks. I already miss EP. You guys will be missed…
Your signature made me lol.
“EP left TC for SoS? – Me
Yea cuz we hurt their feelings – Map chat”
I think in general though it is more that people are getting tired of queues.
KH and EP gone over to the other T2 servers.
If they decided to stay things could get really interesting in the future.
Both guilds are really talented, but neither are big enough to sway the 4-6 rankings. EP+Agg does give SoS a NA presence though.
Really? Perplexity, p/d, thieves guild thief in a 1v1? Could you possibly have any less faith in your own skill?
I swear, maguuma is the worst server to solo roam against. Barely anybody is willing to fight on their own merit and most of the ones that do hide behind perplexity.
This post is funny because TC/SoS never solo roam.
Its fairy rare on all 3 servers unfortunately. When I solo roam, I tend to run into small groups a lot.
Another bad post. If no one likes blobs, why do they blob? Because that’s how a lot of people want to play.
@OP. This whole post makes me lol. It is a really great post for October 2012.
I haven’t heard anyone complaining about HS in awhile? Why? Because spamming it doesn’t work against anyone except the worst of players anymore.
I don’t do not get why you want to take a fairly weak class at this point and make it even worse.
@TexRob:
Actually no. It increases strategy. Imagine having a guild run. You can ensure that you have your treb person, your flame ram person, etc etc. People can spec the way they are needed for that day. It’s the same with your regular build. Good players adjust them.
Increasing strategy is always a good thing.
What has the 4 warrior team got to do with it?
You simply got lucky with the same ‘winning’ team due to the lack players. Warriors are sure OP in term of mace & hammer burst skills but stop portraying them as ‘unbeatable gods, the most OP class in gw2 history.’ It only shows you’re a whiny bad yourself.
Go do a 5 man warrior against an organised team que – and get back to us
Lol. A 5 man solo queue team against an organized team? Not sure your point.
It’s pretty much obvious to everyone that warriors are OP right now.
