I do not think it matters. Personally, I do not see why people want to move to a higher tier server. The quality of players at higher tiers is not necessarily better than at lower tiers. The main difference is being able to field 24/7 coverage. That also means queues.

In the end this is a game. You can either play it or wait in a queue. Your choice.

I like this idea.

Another idea might be to give significant buffs (power/prec/vit/toughness/etc) to servers fielding a lower number of players. The amount of the buff would be dependent on how outnumbered they are.

You are right that upper tiers are more about zergs. You can still find some small group action, but not as much as on a lower tier.

The other thing to remember… the higher the tier, the longer the queue times. Players in tier 1 aren’t necessarily better than those in tier 5 (in other words there are good players no matter where you go). Higher tiers just have more around the clock coverage.

This definitely needs to change. To earn commander, someone needs to have a certain number of WvW achievements AND pay 100 gold. That would make things much better.

This is just a short term issue. Things will stabilize soon once all the bandwagon jumpers have to start paying to move.

What DOES need to change is the weekly match-ups. The current system is broke. Until we get a system where the winner moves up a tier and the loser moves down a tier, we will always have issues. Recently, BG beat up on SoR for what… 8 weeks in a row? How is that fun?

Unlimited Stealth - No Wall/Gate

Making an unlimited stealth build is more of a detriment then anything, the players you were fighting really weren’t paying attention to you, and they payed the price for it.

You realize the wall wasn’t down? The point is to be able to wait inside of a tower unnoticed until you can recap it. It’s to counter zergs…

If they didn’t notice the huge house, then they simply weren’t paying attention.

I am guessing that you do not play a lot of WvW. What typically happens is that enemies will come into your territory and take a tower. Now it isn’t possible to defend everything so most of the zerg then leaves to move onto other objectives. A thief or 2 can remain hidden and recap once the champ buffs wear off.

No one seems to like the rating system besides ANET. Servers should not need to play against each other more than 2 weeks in a row.

Of course, this would all be solved by the whole winner moves up, loser moves down system that has been discussed so much here already.

The issue is comparable skill. That’s hard to find.

As for the classes, things are pretty well Balance except for maybe the bunker eles. Some classes can escape, some can hold points, some can cause major damage. It is fine.

To your point, two players SHOULD sometimes struggle against one player. It all depends on the specs and how they match up.

Balance is actually pretty good at the moment. Bunker ele is probably the only class that is a little too strong.

The other classes all have their strengths and weaknesses. There isn’t a particular class that worries me except the bunker ele.

Ok guys im getting mixed emotions about this little shindig today. And most of it is really not about the event. Most of it is issues you guys have with the game itself pertaining to WvW. Like big zergs or ppl not rendering fast enough. Look guys I just do come up with events to encourage ppl to play. Is that so bad? Am I doing something wrong? Today every WvW map was on a 1 hour+ que waiting time. Tryna tell me that happens everyday all day? Maybe in T1 idk. from what I saw ppl had a great time and alot of SoR said they have more respect for tarnished coast because of EB battles. Is that bad? Is this game not made for players to play together? So whats all this negativity all about? Someone plz enlighten me I have ppl cussing me out and other people asking when is the next im so confused.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. My earlier message wasn’t a criticism of the event. I just don’t understand how it is different than any other day. You know the basic get as many people as possible and try to take as much as possible. That’s true of all servers in WvW.

No one should be cussing you (except maybe people on your own server who were mad about the queues. haha). New event ideas are good. I still hope we see more 5v5 or zerg vs zerg battles. Maybe a planned time where 2 servers team to attack the third server’s keep. All those are super hard to coordinate of course.

There are two really great things about TC:
1. Fun people. There are always exceptions of course, but overall it’s a great environment.
2. Virtually no queues. Excluding server reset, there is typically 0-5 minute wait time on any server. EB and TBCL are the most popular. The other BL maps rarely have any queue except on Friday reset.

I definitely recommend the server.

Is this the same “fix” that was rolled back because players overwhelming said it didn’t work? Hopefully you were speaking of some other test that I wasn’t a part of.

The first fix was miserable and loaded allies and enemies separately. Essentially if you were running in a zerg, you wouldn’t be able to see your commander and so you had to basically run around in map view.

It was a horrible experience and so hopefully the new change is something different.

Right now Pistol Whip is weaker than the auto attack (Sword/Pistol) and most of us S/P Thieves have no motivation to play gw2. Arenanet, Please fix it !

Agreed. Pistol whip needs some type of a buff. I rarely see that build in WvW anymore.

@OP, I do like many of your ideas but I also agree with the poster who said that it was likely too many changes for anet to make.

Personally, I think we are much more likely to see a longer stealth debuff and the each of the corresponding weapons sets getting a damage buff. In other words, if you are running something like S/D, you wouldn’t be able to permastealth and as a trade off, you would hit harder while visible.

There are 4 tier 1 servers right now, so really it doesn’t matter if SoR moves up or not. We would just need to play against BG again. Personally, I’d rather play against SoR since BG doesn’t have any guilds that have as cool of a name as Choo.

It should NOT be moved to PVE. Instead it should be moved to its own PvP instance. That way people can still fight in it if they want, but it doesn’t impact the regular WvW queues.

I really want other classes to get portals (engineer would be a good choice). Currently, if you play WvW, everyone expects mesmers to have the portal. I’d rather use the slot for other things sometimes.

I’m not sure how long I can take this anymore.

Every time I’ve played WvW over the past few weeks I end up frustrated and cursing the game to hell because of one…single…“feature”.

I play WvW to kill people. I don’t care much for Zergs or rewards. Instead I pick good fights and hope for an interesting combat.

But the downed state and the easy nature of revives makes this the most downright frustrating experience in any video game I’ve played in the last decade. I’ve litterally attacked groups of 3 by myself and downed the same player 3 times. But they just keep on reviving.

It’s so incredibly detrimental to anything resembling skillful play if all it takes is 2 sek. to revive a downed player. Without stability, stealth or Quickness you don’t even need to try and finish someone.

I simply cannot express in words how utterly kittened up this revive/resurrection system is. There is no way this is acceptable in PvP in any form and it will be the prime reason I leave this game behind should good alternatives arise where you can actually kill people in PvP.

I challenge any developer of this game to roam solo or in a small team and not end up wanting to pull out their hair.

Seriously, this is so kittened up.

I used to feel this way. Now I do not mind it and actually enjoy it. It adds some extra excitement. I also not not find it hard to stomp people. Not sure what you are doing wrong.

I still do not understand why there are so many bandwagon jumper guilds. If a guild wants to transfer, that is fine. Why would they transfer to a higher ranked server though? The only difference between higher ranked servers and lower ranked ones are coverage. Why go someplace where they will need to deal with longer queues?

We used to always pound TC into last place on reset nights, but their sustained forces would eventually hold out, we would give up and they would roll us.

Hopefully this fight stays close, and I wouldn’t mind losing because t2 scares the poop out me – we are not nearly ready for that.

since this game has no pve-pve skill changing, this change will make eles op in wvwvw.

Welcome to the game. I am assuming you are quite new. Let me help you. First, there ARE differences between PVE and PVP. Devs are able to make changes to the classes in one or the other. They have done that in the past.

Second, AOE radius is quite small. Again, it is easy to dodge. It doesn’t make anything OP. You mention WvW. You should go try it sometime. What you will see is that a lot of better commanders have people “stack”. That means they stand on one point and only 5 people get hit by any one attack and everyone else is safe. That strategy should not be allowed.

Keep in mind that I am not saying ALL thieves are bad. Given that you are reading these boards, you are probably more dedicated and likely one of the top 5%. The issue is general pug thieves.

The thief is the hardest class to play in higher level fractals. My point is that unless you know a good thief, it is not worth taking a pug thief. I’d rather take a pug guardian or warrior anytime.

You can have an average player do ok in other classes. You cannot have an average player use thief.

Thieves are completely horrible at Fractals of the Mists levels 10 or higher. I just got out of another group that involved needing to constantly revive the thief. It is a complete waste of a team member slot. Personally, I think it is better to just kick the thief before we start.

Now I know some of you are probably good in FotM, but 95% of thieves are not. This class needs some serious help so that there are more than 5% of thieves that are somewhat decent at it.

Daoc did it right. Group with pre-chosen class make up, guildies, and be rewarded for winning fights against other faction opposing guilds. This new prestige ranking system should be based off of killing other players. Keeps and camps should simply be strategy for having a backup (fallback) place when you start to lose a fight.

Zergs have a purpose….Making great videos of small mans dropping triple their number.

Commander tags should be earned with an outstanding number of personal kills. Anet makes it 25,000 kills…would eliminate 99% of the commanders. Interestingly enough 99% of the commanders are commanders based off of one fact…you can BUY the title.

Earn it.

So wrong. Kills are the worst way to determine a valid commander.

Now I do agree with you that commanders need to do more than just pay 100 gold, but kills is definitely not the right way to go.

Paid server transfer is a really bad idea. Why should we have to pay because Anet overlooked an obvious flaw in their game ? I’m new to the game and i picked my server because i thought it would have a good WvW population. Why should i / people new to the game be punished or have to pay to transfer because we have absolutely no way of knowing what servers are active WvW servers other than some ones " opinion " on a random forum ? This game will go into the garbage bin if they implement paid server transfers. Allow free transfers once every 30 days but don’t force us to pay $$$ for Anet’s mistake.

I think the better solution is that everyone gets 1 free transfer and then after that you need to pay. That resolves the issue you mentioned and minimizes server jumpers.

Portal bombs are a really fun aspect of the game. I like them a lot.

One thing I would change though is the logic that AOE only hits 5 characters. What I do not like is an entire group stacking on one point. If they want to stack a point, that is fine, but have everyone get hit by AOE damage.

My first character was a thief, leveled him to 30, and then abandoned him. My main is a guardian, and my first alt is an engie. Every time I entered WvW, I absolutely dreaded fighting thieves. I couldn’t out damage them as an engie, and I couldn’t out speed them as a guardian. Every other class, I had some sort of strategy to, but the thieves, I just couldn’t get down.

And then I decided to get that 30 thief to 80. From then on, my perception of thieves changed. They are annoying as absolute hell, I will agree with that. But they are in absolutely NO WAY OP.

The reason they are annoying is obvious – They have an extreme amount of mobility. They can get to you and get away incredibly quickly. I have no experience with high spike thieves, and I can only speak for condition thieves, but yes, I will agree that our speed and stealth is an extreme annoyance. However, that IS our class. We’re thieves. Just the word “thief” means speed and stealth.

The reason people think they are “OP” is because they don’t know how to handle a thief. As a thief with full exotics, I absolutely fear going into zergs of 3 or more. Not because of the damage. The damage is an issue, but the main reason I get nervous in big groups is because one of those players will pull out a stun, cripple, or an ability to knock me out of my stealth.

Thieves are an incredibly fragile class. People want them nerfed, but what those people do not realize is that if you take away our spike damage, we are extremely crippled. Thieves need to get in and get out quickly, as even with high vitality, we cannot survive long fights. If our mobility is nerfed, however, our class is virtually useless. We run away because we have to. Most view it as an act of cowardice to stealth and run, but the fact is that if we run away, we don’t die and you don’t die. And EVERY player, regardless of class, is going to try to run once they get on low health. We’re just better at it. That is what our class is GOOD at, just like other classes have things they are good at. There is a reason why most dungeons don’t want thieves – We have troubles surviving.

Want to combat a thief? Look at what your skills do. Every class has something that can combat a thief. We’re a tough class to nail down a strategy for, but we are an extremely fragile class. Especially glass cannon thieves. Take away high dps thieves’ speed, and the class is useless.

tl;dr: Thieves are in no way OP. They are EXTREMELY annoying, I will agree. But if you learn how to actually combat them, they aren’t as extreme of an issue

Sigh… While you are right with everything you said, people will still complain. The issue is that thieves tend to pick on people who don’t understand how to play the game. That’s the same group that then comes on here and complains about thieves being op. It’s a lot easier to say a class is op than to admit their own skills are subpar. Once they practice a bit, they will realize that thieves are the first class that should be targeted because they are the easiest to kill.

The class as a whole takes little to no skill with the current culling issues, so theres really no such thing as the best thief. What you should have asked is “Who is the least terrible thief”

Don’t feel bad. Thieves pick on newer players a lot. You will get better with practice.

While the video is entertaining, it is not indicative of WvW in general. Every video like this shows a thief picking of some noob who is out of place.

I’d rather see more videos of thieves operating in a zerg or in a group of 5. That’s more of how WvW is much of the time. Instead we get videos of thieves killing people who know nothing about WvW which causes more people to complain.

I can play for hours on my warrior and never die to a thief. Why? Because thieves are not a challenge to those who know how to play WvW.

Blackgate going Tier1 again

Sigh. For lack of a better phrase, haters are going to hate. We have hardly gotten “stacked”. Winning in this game requires the best coverage you can put out around the clock. Because we win, it becomes easy to dismiss this as “Oceanic PvDoor”. When your server puts out the total points of more than the other servers combined, I think that coverage can’t possibly be the only thing that enabled you to win. I am waiting for people to learn how to lose gracefully instead of trashing on a server for having more players, because we totally have control over our population.

I am on TC and just wanted to mostly agree with your message. I will say that blackgate tends to have some of the best tactics that I have seen in this game and hope you do well in tier 1.

A lot of us in TC are more focused on the fun of the battles than the score. I would rather face servers that have peak times at the same time. Imagine Friday night reset style battles all week. Hopefully in tier 1 you find other servers that match up better with you coverage wise.

Because thieves are more fun to play than certain other classes. Personally, I use different classes depending on sPvP, dungeons, or WvW. I choose based on my own playstyle and which is the most fun. The balance across the classes overall is pretty good.
