I sometimes do not understand ANET. S/P was already the weakest of the thief builds in sPvP or WvW. This just makes it worse.
Q6 : would you like 50 thieves like him on an borderland vs enemy zergs ?
How will you respond?50 thieves vs 50 warriors… or d/d eles.. or ( insert here ).
Id take the 50 warriors TBH.
I’d say 50 eles. They are the current most op class. They did receive an sPvP nerf, but they should still be mostly intact in WvW.
Because like most games, Thieves require zero skill to actually play, only this game has taken it one step further and given them constant in combat stealth so they can reset their “Screw Ups”..
I have a thief, I play my thief, It’s a joke how silly the class is….
It doesn’t require any skill to kill anyone, it doesn’t require any skill to escape a fight, If things go badly, I can easily just reset the fight.
You want to seen an example of a stealther taking skill to play
The things I’ve learned…
1. No one who plays a class comes onto a forum in any game and asks for it to be nerfed or talking about it being no skill.
2. People come to the forums claiming to be a certain class and asking for nerfs seem silly.
3. These same people might roll the class in question, but aren’t very good at it and are jealous of those who are.
Just my observations over time.
Those are NON-COMBAT itens… Stop trying to fight using it…
The no fun committee has spoken.
I’m not a fan of the idea. I prefer more smaller group (10v10) battles
We had more, but look at this, we just wiped the group with half of us using the power suits. This is just OP, Anet needs to nerf this
Ohh. Another nerf thread. You know, I think ANET should just remove all weapons from the game. and armor. and jewelry, and skills. and all classes except for one. Then two people could just stand next to each other and slap each other until one of them wins.
Or people could learn to play.
Please don’t think you are winning your 1v1’s through skill. Most of us could not see you for more than a few seconds and did not have enough aoe to burst you down before you safely disappeared to the other side of the map.
The game engine and your artificially long invisibility are the reason for your wins.
Thieves are pretty easy to beat. Just keep practicing. After you reach level 80, you will probably be in a better situation. If you already are 80, maybe practice in sPvP a bit. It will help with the match-ups
I seriously wonder how many people here have played WvW much. Badges only are a HORRIBLE idea for commander. It is just as bad as 100 gold only. Just because someone did the JP a lot or killed a lot of people does not mean they are good at WvW.
As I’ve mentioned before, commander should be a combination of 100 gold as well as a certain number of achievements. These achievements would be across a number of areas such as kills, captures, and defenses.
Why 100 gold? So that people who spent it already have it as an “ingredient” for commander.
Why 100 gold + achievements? Most commanders will already have a decent number of kills/captures/defenses. Those who have already been leading will keep the title. Those who just troll with their tag on or spend all day in the JP will need to actually earn their title.
Easy solution:
1. PvE commanders cost 100 gold
2. WvW commanders cost 100 gold and need a certain number of achievements. (kills, defense, captures). You want a commander than has shown the ability across all of the areas and not just kills (badges)
It’s always funny when someone comes on here and claims they want their own class nerfed. I call BS. The OP got pwned and now wants to feel better by asking for a nerf.
Personally, I do not do this, but if anyone wants to duel, let them. It is a game. Go have fun.
If you are upset that people are doing it on your current server, go someplace else.
The issue is that thieves are the hardest class to play in a dungeon. It also typically requires a different skill tree than what you’d use in WvW or sPvP. That means that pug thieves are very much hit or miss. Sometimes you get a thief who knows how to dungeon and it works well. A lot of times you will get thieves who try to burst a boss. After the burst, they will have removed 1% of the bosses HP and then not know what to do.
Personally, I suggest using other classes for dungeons and use a thief for WvW or open world PvE. Warriors and guardians are easy mode for dungeons and of course the current state of ele makes them good at everything.
Let’s be honest… There are only so many weeks of playing the same servers before it gets boring. What you typically see on any servers is that week one of the match-up you see the most number of people in WvW and then participation begins to slip. There have been a number of ideas suggested to keep the match-ups more dynamic. All have had arguments in support and against. I’ve been thinking through this and think a different alternative is needed.
1. Keep the current rating system with some tweaks to allow faster movement between levels.
2. Introduce 2 server maps that will compliment the standard 3 server maps.
Match-ups would work like this. Assume all of the rankings stay the same for 2 weeks in a row for simplicity of explanation.
Week 1:
1v2 (JQ vs SoR)
3v4v5 (SoS vs BG vs Kain)
6v7 (TC vs FA)
8v9v10 (DB vs Yak vs Mag)
etc…
Week 2:
1v2v3 (JQ vs SoR vs SoS)
4v5 (BG vs Kain)
6v7v8 (TC vs FA vs DB)
9v10 (Yak vs Mag)
etc….
The idea of this model is to keep match-ups tied to existing rankings but give more variety in match-ups. Plus the whole 1v1 concept would require different strategies than 1v1v1.
Personally, I’d be super excited to see some new opponents, especially the current match-ups in my week 1 example above.
I actually agree with everything the OP posted.
I still would like to see more dynamic matches though.
Actually, it is quite the opposite right now. The green color is the easiest side to defend at the moment.
Everyone already knows certain builds for eles are OP. Not really sure the point of more Ele are OP threads.
yawn It is boring to see guilds who like to bandwagon jump to new servers. Looks like Blackgate is the new bandwagon server.
Ohh. I understand here. Only Lopez understands how WvW was intended to be played. Why argue with him?
Or maybe people should just play the game in a way that is fun for them regardless of whether it matches up with what you think is right.
CnD’ing a keep wall to stay invisible is obviously not intended by A-net. You guys can’t be seriously defending this gameplay? This is coming from a thief as well.
Personally, I do not have a problem with players doing this. That said, I would not do it myself because I want to actually be playing the game and not just hitting CnD over and over. It’s a game and people can play it how they want.
ANET, why disable everything. In WvW, I think there should be a simple rule:
1. If it changes your skill bar, disable it (golem, gears, etc)
2. If it is a passive ability, leave it (venom, etc)
Why? It doesn’t change the core gameplay and everyone has access to it if they want. It’s no different than any other food.
It has to be disabled because hackers abuse it
Anet you can thank me later for solving one of major ways to exploit in WvW.
This post made me LOL. If you think typing /sleep is hacking, you must be very new to computers.
Here is a tip for you. Look at their health bar.
1: culling
2: aoe damage capThose are my votes anyways. Death to all zergling sheeple!
Agreed. These are the 2 biggest issues with WvW. In addition, playing the same servers every week is just boring.
Who thought that was a good idea? It isn’t. After all that trouble filling up the map on Tyria, finding out I have to play a mode I don’t like to get the rest kills my motivation.
A lot of us feel the same about leveling. Well, guess what? You don’t need 100% completion. You only need it to get a legendary that has the same stats as an exotic. So, either do the completion or don’t. There is no reason to complain.
Ok, I will respond to the most pointless topic of the day.
The answer? Who cares? It doesn’t matter and there are too many parts to the game for anyone to be the best at all of them.
First off i’d like to say that I don’t consider the thief class to be overpowered, I just want to make that clear. The only problem i have with the class is the fact that shadow refuge grants stealth for a total of 9 seconds. This can be used to revive a downed ally in stealth. Now you might say that you can spam aoe on top of it if hes sitting there reviving his ally which i agree with, but what happens when you throw it down on top of another downed thief? the downed thief can use his teleport and be revived fairly easily in the 9 seconds of stealth with out any danger of being hit by aoe.
I’m not exactly sure how to change this with out completely destroying the ability. Maybe it could be changed so that you revive people at 50% speed while you are in shadow refuge. Another option would be to cut the duration of the skill down to 6 seconds of stealth. I’m not really sure what the best course of action would be but as it stands now this ability is completely broken in WvW.
Seriously? You really need to learn to play if you think this is an issue. AOE in the circle. If you are so worried about them resing someone while in stealth, you will hit them.
Shadow refuge isn’t really a great skill as it stands since the heal amount is pretty low.
What I will never understand is why noobs come onto the forums complaining because a class beat them. Instead of always asking for nerfs to all classes, just learn to play. Enough said.
The gem numbers would be the cost to transfer TO that tier.
Tier 7: 250 gems
Tier 8: FreeIf this system hit, another Kaineng-esk rise in 3… 2…
I have no problems with a Kaineng-esk rise. It keeps things interesting. What I don’t want is to get stuck in a rut of playing the same server 10 weeks in a row.
That would be a great idea.
I would also like commanders to have the ability to unclaim towers/keeps/camps. That way guilds who actually can provide buffs can claim them.
We try to entertaintain the very classy TC defenders by swinging left and right
wvw from yesterday:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsnssSefp0wAnother fun week everyone.
This is awesome. Props to everyone who was doing that. I like!
Maybe look at the plans for WvW in March.
ANET’s mistake when charging for transfers was in basing it on server population. You can always guest on another server for PVE. That means the primary reason for transferring servers is WvW. Transfers should be based on tiers, something like this. The gem numbers would be the cost to transfer TO that tier.
Tier 1: 2500 gems
Tier 2: 2000 gems
Tier 3: 1500 gems
Tier 4: 1000 gems
Tier 5: 750 gems
Tier 6: 500 gems
Tier 7: 250 gems
Tier 8: Free
Good. I do not want new skills. I want the passive type buffs that will encourage smaller group play. Increased supply is a good start. Maybe increased damage against siege equipment when only surrounded by a few people. Maybe increased damage using siege equipment when only surrounded by a few people. Things like that
I think this is good.
It ll kill mono-zerg gameplay.
Or it will just take more strategy out of the game. I guess we will wait and see.
Completely disagree with the OP. Outmanned servers DEFINITELY need buffs. WvW is NOT about 1v1 balance. It is about a server vs a server. The buffs will help a server get back into the fight.
Siege is fine as is. They do not need any buffs.
Because it is fun. Enough said.
Completely disagree with the OP on just about everything other than multiple guilds. I do think there should be a limit of 2 or something like that.
@OP, try playing WvW more often. It addresses many of your issues.
Please don’t implement this, the difference between t1 and t2 is miles apart, after everyone bandwagon’d to the top tier due to the end of free transfers. This would just make it so T2 winner every week would move up for a week lose horribly then move back down. So Winning in the T2 bracket would actually be losing because T2 now is by far the best bracket imho. 24/7 fights but not 24/7 Zergs. The system as it is you only move up if you completely dominate your bracket and therefore should be moved up into the next bracket, but if the match is competitive the matchup stays the same as it SHOULD imho.
Huh? You really think blackgate can’t complete with SoR or the other tier 1 servers? In case you didn’t know, BG beat SoR what? 12 weeks in a row or something. Sure SoR is stronger than they were at the time, but saying BG couldn’t compete is just wrong.
Likewise, there isn’t much difference between TC and FA. So if next week’s matchup was SoS, Kain, and FA, who is to say it would be worse than the blowout in tier 2 this week?
And pigeonhold 2nd place into 2nd place permanently?
Force servers into overmatched fights?
Force servers to fight vastly greater numbers?
Remove an incentive to fight for position?
No thanks.
I seriously have no idea what you are talking about here. Let’s discuss:
1. Remove an incentive to fight for position? Huh? There is a huge incentive in WULD.
2. Force servers to fight vastly great numbers? Umm, that’s the situation today. In WULD at least it is only for 1 week vs multiple weeks in the current model.
Every week would be an even worse curb stomp with your system.
Why do I post fact if no one bothers to look at them?
Why do we bother with numbers if no one is going to read them?
I disproved this fallacy, this myth you cling to is just that, a myth, a fallacy, that the numbers I have shown have disproved time and time again.
This belief that moving out of tier is bad is backed up by nothing more then the weights and merits of old wives and their tales.
If you can show me how it will result in blows out, with cold hard numbers, I’ll look at them, but lets be real here, I am not going to wait for that to arrive in the mail, sort to speak.
I’ve already told you why we ignore your numbers.
Your numbers have the same flaw that glicko does; they do not take transfers into account.Furthermore.
Your numbers are not proof that WULD system would be better than glicko, they are only proof that there is a problem with Glicko.
Which, as I have said before, I don’t think anyone particularly disagrees with.
The WULD model is much better when factoring in transfers. It means if a number of guilds move to a lower ranked server and make that server dominate, they will move through the tiers much more quickly. In the current model, they may need to destroy a particular tier multiple weeks in a row before moving up.
No, the damage is fine in WvW. Remember, WvW is intended to be unbalanced. That will always be the case since players come with their own gear/equipment. It is a good thing.
For people who want balance, they have sPvP.
The arbitrary choice of 30k being a “blowout” seems like a bad choice as well. While that definition would put T2 as a blowout, this week has been anything but a blowout – probably one of the best matchups I’ve experienced.
Ungood did a better job showing the differences between servers. As for T2, I’m not sure how you consider this score even
Blackgate 234k
Kaineng 199k
TC 143k
Also, keep in mind this is week 1 of the match-up. Will scores like that still be fun 3 or more weeks in a row?
Most of the tiers look pretty evenly matched to me, with the exception perhaps of SBI and JQ still filtering down a bit.
Really? Things look evenly matched to you? Lets have a look at the numbers then, humm shall we.
Tier1:
Jade Quarry owns this, nuff said.Tier 2:
Blackgate – 231
Kaineng – 192
Tarnished Coast – 140That is near a 40K difference between 1st and 2nd, and a 90K Difference between Blackgate and Tarnished Coast.
Tier 3:
Fort Aspenwood – 230
Dragonbrand – 194
Maguuma – 140Another 90K spread with a 40K Disparity between 1st and 2nd.
Tier4:
Yak’ Bend -247
Crystal Desert – 182
Stormbluff Isle – 138Gosh, it got WORSE, at Tier 4, with a 110K Spread, and a 65K Difference between 1st and 2nd.
Tier 5:
Ehmry Bay – 302
Devona’s Rest – 131
Isle of janthir – 109WOW that’s even worse then ANY tier above it, with a catastrophic near a 200K Spread this sever, and a staggering 170K Between First and Second
Tier 7:
Darkhaven – 236
Hedge Denvrrai – 165
Gate of Madness – 158Would you look at that, it’s only a 80K blowout, but it’s coupled with a very sweet demoralizing 70K jump from between 1st and 2nd.
Tier 8:
Sorrows Furnace – 330
Ferguson’s Crossing – 130
Eredon Terrace – 109Gosh, look at that 220K spread, with a soul crushing 200K between 1st and 2nd.
7 out of 8 total tiers being steamrolling lop sided matches is “looks pretty evenly matched” to you?
Where do people get the idea that this system should be anything other then scrapped when this is it’s result?
100% agree with your message. As I mentioned in my original message, there is NO WAY to get 3 evenly matched servers together on a week by week basis. In that case, it is way better to keep the match-ups dynamic so that servers at least can face new opponents. No one wants to get blown out by the same server multiple weeks in a row
^^ I disagree with your FA comments. They came in only 17,000 less than TC in tier 2. That is way better than the current tier 2 matchups.
Culling is way worse than before the patch.
@OP
The solution you mentioned will do nothing for night capping. Beyond that, you just need to accept that this is a global game. What you consider night capping is prime time for someone else.
It’s just a game. Trust me, the sun will still rise tomorrow whether your server did well or horribly while you slept.
There really aren’t good arguments against this model. Is it the best model? Probably not. It is better than the current model? Definitely.
Here’s to another week of getting blown out by the same servers! And people wonder why do many players hang out in the eb jp.
I know this has been discussed many times before, but it is time to make a change. The current model is NOT working. Let’s look at the match-ups again this week.
In N/A, there are 8 tiers. In SEVEN of the tiers, the match is a blow out (defined as the winning server ahead by at least 30k). THe situation becomes much worse when you compare the difference in scores between the 1st place server and third.
Only ONE of the tiers has an even match (tier 6). What fun is that for the other 7 tiers? Its not.
Now the only argument against the winner moves up, loser moves down format is that it will create uneven match-ups. Well, guess what? What is the situation we are in today. Look at the projected matchups for next week. Of the eight servers, there will only be 2 new matchups next week. That means for at least FIVE of the tiers, we will have another week of blow outs against the same opponents. Why even play?
The ability to match up 3 servers evenly is just not possible in any format. At least with the winner moves up, loser moves down format, we will get new opponents each week. If the matches are going to be uneven anyway, at least keep it interesting with new match-ups.
@op this is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. I WANT to use the gear/weapons that I have earned. I do NOT want this to be sPvP.
If you want everyone equal, stay in sPvP. WvW is an end game for the rest of us.
Thieves are not ideal for this speed run. 4 warriors and 1 mesmer is the fastest. Warriors are by the far the best regular dungeon class overall (fotm higher levels are different).
