Either come back or don’t. Given that you are posting here, I am guessing you want to come back.
This has definitely been a fun match-up. Props to FA and BG for a lot of great battles.
go tc!
Thieves are easy to counter, here goes:
Against all:
Root/stun
AOEThief is in stealth almost all the time. You can’t target them for root/stun.
Really it’s not that “thieves are unbalanced” it’s that “stealth is unbalanced”, particularly with the way thieves can constantly reapply it.
Give stealth an 8 second cooldown between uses and I think almost all complaints would cease.
Not between all stealth uses. There just needs to be an 8 second cooldown on clock & dagger. That’s where ALL the stealth complaints come from. The other stealth skills aren’t a big deal.
On the flip side, thieves DPS needs to increase to compensate.
I love the Thief is easy to kill posts, clearly the problem is lack of skill by every other class besides the thief.
Not really. It’s just a lack of skill by certain players.
The new culling is horrible. Seriously, who runs WvW at anet? How can they take a system that failed in December, roll it out again now, and think they will end up with a different result? It is crazy.
Give us the old system and just add in a priority for those near you who are coming out of stealth. Great interim solution while you work on the long term.
While queues are not fun, if you are someone who has recently transferred to a tier 1 or tier 2 server, you have no room to complain. Servers in those tiers have pretty good 24/7 coverage and of course you will run into longer queues than a lower ranked server.
The best class for running with a zerg is ele. There is no question on that. Strong aoe damage, speed, and heals. It is the one class that can do it all.
lol @ people who say thief
no habib messed up and anet did too theres no corecting this giant mistake that has been made DRAGON BRAND for life but soon as a new game comes im out to long has this game been kittened with by designers that have no clue or even play months an dmonths of ram glitchs unfair que systems and botch spots for seige weapons and this is only wvw plain and simple this game is really lacking in the fun department
I have no idea what you just said, but wow, that was one long sentence.
I don’t see that as truth at all. The first 48 hours is the weekend when people tend to play more. The reality is that the matchup is decided m-f when people are going to work/school/whatever and coverage comes into play more.
You are partially correct. People do play more more of weekends. That is true. You are wrong though about games being decided Monday-Friday. Look at this week’s match-ups. 5 or 6 out of the 8 match-ups were decided by Sunday night.
The point though is that 48 hours is enough time to determine a winner in most cases. There is no downside to having 48 hour matches.
This has been a great match-up. The good news is that if the week ended right now, the 3 servers would have a rematch next week. The bad news is that it would be in tier 4. Best tier 4 battle ever? haha
Manually adjust?? No way.
Instead have 48 hour matches to rapidly get the rankings back in order.
Yeah, daggerstorm was nerfed as soon as people learned how to press the dodge button.
Completely disagree with your post. The fun of WvW is in having a lot of people on the map. I hate running from one side of the map to the other without seeing anyone.
You mention having coverage on all 4 maps… Instead of reducing the player cap, they should add outmanned buffs. Right now it is xp/karma/etc. Instead, give the outnumbered players power/prec/vit/toughness buffs. The amount of the buff would be based on how outnumbered they are.
As for long queues, those will change over time. Right now, a lot of bandwagoners jumped to higher tier servers. At some point, people on those high tier servers will get tired of the queues and go to the lower populated ones
It is sad that anet tested the culling system in december and it failed and had to be reverted. What is more sad is that they took that same culling system, rolled it out a second time, and expected a different result.
We need 48 hour match-ups. That is the way to get the ratings in order.
Let’s be honest. Most matches are decided by the 48 hour mark. For uneven match-ups that means the servers are just waiting for reset.
I actually like the idea getting to see some new servers. Yeah, some of the matchups will be uneven for a few weeks, but it is worth it to not have to play the same servers constantly.
I definitely agree though that we should have 48 hour matches over the next month or so. Think about it from anet’s perspective. What is the most popular day of the week for WvW? It is Friday reset. Let’s get that excitement more than once a week. The truth is that most matchups are decided by 48 hours anyway.
I do not understand the OP;s question. How can you really determine the best server?
1. Go to a top tier server and wait in long queues but on a positive note you get to feel like you are better player
2. Go to a bottom tier server and play whenever you want to but you feel like you are playing in a development league
3. Go to a middle tier and get a mix.
There is no right answer.
I went 1vs5 thiefs last night and got a kill from it and survived. Im a necro. I was guarding rogues and I got kitten when seeing them because I just upgraded rogues. They retreated to go kill some doylaks, but I caught up to them and backup arrived and they all went down. That said, most thiefs are bad at the game. Thief class is pretty OP. And I agree with the OPs setntiment. Its not to say though, that other classes can’t do an effective job as well.
The thief class is definitely NOT op overall. In fact, a lot of the specs needs buffs. It is the permastealth specs that are the problem for everyone.
My initial thought when I heard the announcement was to agree with the OP. As I’ve thought about it more though, I would be happy to see other servers. Yeah, the matchups will not always be balanced for a while, but it is better than seeing the same servers every week.
Finally a good thread! Oh, and in addition to ele/mesmer/thief, let me also add the following:
Guard
Warrior
Engi
RangerNow if we could ever get all 7 of those classes into one zerg we would totally be unstoppable!
sigh
I love how you left out the necromancers haha.
Well, they just aren’t any good. jk. That’s the one class I do not play, so I do not know if they are good or not.

The ratings reset will actually cause imbalances for the next 10 weeks until this becomes sorted out again. I do not understand the logic.
That said, what do we really expect? Look at the culling system. The system failed a test in December and was reverted. So what happened? They rolled out the same failed system a second time expecting a different result.
Yeah, the culling is worse now than it ever was. Much worse. I get culling now when just a necro, from my own server, comes into range. I’ve run into supply camps and everyone including the NPCs just up and vanish for a couple seconds. I never had these problems before and rarely even encountered culling.
As for thieves, yes. Something needs to be done, but what? Thieves kind of suck at PvE and yet are rediculous in WvW. The stealth does need looking at, even though I have a thief and for some reason I have a tough time staying in stealth. I’m a pretty bad thief. Perhaps it’s that too many things can be one in stealth? I don’t know, but it needs looking at.
Actually thieves are really only good at the small group fighting within WvW. They aren’t very good in zergs.
So, what are people recommending? A longer stealth debuff and a buff to attack power?
There is definitely a problem in general. There are long queues and missing players in WvW. Something is wrong.
Anet,
When will this new culling system be removed? You got the feedback in December that it didn’t work and now you are hearing again that it doesn’t work. Can you give us an idea on your plans?

Tier 3 is the most exciting for next week. KN vs Mag vs DB? That should be a really great match.
Unfortunately, there are 4 tier 1 servers right now, so BG should have a fun time in tier 2. The real question is how will a greatly improved FA fare against TC.
@OP
Yes, the current weeks matchups are lopsided across a lot of the tiers. In your case though, you should have a really good match-up tomorrow against CD and SBI.
It depends on the situation. If I run around WvW, I like having on SoS. Once I start to fight though, I’d much rather swap it out for a more battle specific utility.
Yeah, the issue is that the culling test failed late last year and was reverted. So I guess ANET decided that maybe if they implemented the failed model a second time, they would get different results.
At the very least, let me be able to tell if someone running towards me is an ally or enemy. Right now, I can see the character model (sometimes) but whether they are friend or foe doesn’t appear until I click on them.
I don’t want to fight SoR ever again. Even though they outnumbered and ground us to a pulp, their forum warriors were much worse than anything they could dish out in game. As much as I don’t want to wish them success, I’d like them to stay in t1 indefinitely .
I wouldn’t mind playing TC again somewhere down the road. Some of the 1s and 2s small group fights I’ve had this week have been some of the best I’ve had. AL has some really good duelists in it and I know most of Caedas has been very appreciative of fight club this week.
As much as this week has been a blowout, I actually like playing against SoR (I am on TC). Some of the battles this week have been truly amazing.
I just think tiers 3 and 4 are the more intriguing for next week. In tier 3, you have 3 servers who all think they deserve to be in tier 2. It will be interesting seeing how they do.
Tier 4 has 3 servers that have lost a lot of members. Hopefully this is a balanced week for them and will lead to some fun wvw.
Also a shout out to tier 2. Will BG go back to dominating this tier, and how will newcomer FA handle the step up.
Personally, I am excited for next week.
I think everyone knows the new system is a fail. Let’s wait and see how ANET addresses it.
Hi all,
Queues are per map, per team – so there is a queue for TC players on the Eternal Battlegrounds and a different queue for TC players on each Borderlands, and a different queue for each of the other teams on each of the maps.
During the time it takes for players to change maps it is possible for there to be a queue even if there are less players in a map than the maximum capacity because the players taking up those empty slots are still “in flight” between maps. It’s also possible for a slot to take a while to fill if e.g. people see the queue pop, wait until the progress bar for the automatic transfer is almost empty, and then choose to renter the queue. At that point the system will move on and look for other players to fill that slot but all of that takes a bit of time. We’ve watched the queue numbers a lot and generally it’s only a few slots that are in this reserved state at any time.
Just to be sure I ran a quick database query for the last few days and all the queue numbers look quite reasonable.
So I don’t know where in the map those players are when you’re looking for them, but they’re definitely in there somewhere!
Perhaps it isn’t a queue issue. Maybe it is a max player issue. Could you look at that?
If it is an organization issue, I can understand that, we are pretty free-spirited generally. I’ve got more tinfoil hat theories, which I won’t bother putting here, because if they are true, it’s just sad, and if they aren’t, there’s no reason to start rumors.
As a player on SoR, I have to say it’s almost definitely an organization issue. I can count at least 4 times in the past week where I’ve been walking alone back to a group or just roaming solo, where a TC zerg finds me and I run to the corner of a map that has no use to anyone, yet 15+ TC (twice a commander followed me as well in this group) chase me down for well over a minute to get a single kill. At the same time, your zerg gets strung out as a large number is chasing me.
Meanwhile, I have time to let everyone know over map chat where a large group of TC is and give a pretty accurate number as I have no allies that affect culling. I’m not stupid enough to suicide into a group of 15 TC no matter how survivable my build is and I pose an extremely small risk to your group. As you chase me, the strung out zerg makes very easy pickings for reinforcements when they do come.
This is not intended in any way to bash on TC, but I did want to put my input into this thread to know what it looks like from the other side. I love fighting against you guys and wish you all the best of luck in future weeks. With more organization, you guys can be a real force in WvW.
This unfortunately is too true. I’ve seen that a number of times just today. Commanders become more like baby sitters asking people not to chase.
TC does have its hardcore WvW guilds, but we also have a lot of people who are happy just standing in front of some keep pvping with randoms.
That said, it does seem as if our max population has been a bit low lately. At times in EB we’ve had a queue and yet have trouble getting 15 people together in a zerg.
They promised us that Jan+Feb update = Expension worth.
Jan Pve update is plain joke.
Im gonna quit GW2 if the wVw update sucks.
For sure.
Bye.
For everyone else, WvW is actually a lot of fun. Yeah they need to make some changes to keep it fresh but this is really a great end game feature.
Well, what did you expect when they decided to roll out a system a second time that failed previously.
First, a big thank you for changing the system. In its current state, it is not working for anyone.
Second, this has been discussed multiple times, but why have a “rating” system at all? Just follow the winner moves up, loser moves down methodology. Regardless of how even the match is, it is boring to play the same server more than 2 weeks in a row.
Third, this has also been discussed earlier in the thread, but definitely change the outmanned buffs approach. Instead of giving increased karma/xp, give increased power/prec/vit/tough/etc. The amount of the buff would be based on how outnumbered the server is.

The combo killer has been removed from the weekly rotation, clearly not working as intended.
Yay! Thanks!
You’re suggesting changing your build in order to get a daily achievement? Sorry, this one’s broken. And, it was an easy one to foresee being broken. It just leaves you scratching your head.
Change your build? Hardly. Just swap a couple of skills. If you aren’t already swapping skills on a regular basis to match the needs of the situation, you’re doing it wrong (or at least inefficiently).
But yes, this one needs looked at.
That’s called a build. I don’t use that skill because it has no place in a shout build. If you are swapping your utilities with no thought of build synergy you are doing it wrong.
Agreed. This daily needs to be removed. ANET is telling you there is only one way to play the game. That goes against all of their earlier manifesto notes.
Just change this daily so that it works when multiple people damage and then kill a certain target. Needing to use combo fields is dumb. Don’t ask people to play the game a certain way.
Definitely doesn’t work as intended. It’s good to see ANET is looking into it.
Regardless, this isn’t something that should be in a daily. Forcing people to kill a certain way? This seems to violate ANET’s “fun” manifesto.
o.O here it is almost 1 pm EST and nothing I thought for sure there would be a release sometime this morning.
For everyone who is new to the game…. ANET releases updates later in the day. For someone in EST, that usually is somewhere between 7-9pm.
Lost Shore – 12pm (noon) PST. Stop spreading false truths. We dont know, it will probably afternoon to evening, but you cannot say with certainty.
Hence the word “usually”. That said, feel free to come back here later today and tell me I am right.
btw, for the event that you mention, the patch came out in the same time period that I mentioned. The actual event started the next day at 12 PST.

@Anet. I am just happy all of you are active in the forums. While I understand that a lot of people are super excited about updates and want to learn more ASAP, I think you have the right approach of only giving specific details when they are ready.
In my opinion, some AoE does too much damage, i would rather have it hit more targets, like 7-8 maybe even 10 but with less damage, it would correct the fact that if you are unfortunate to be hit with 3-4 AoE in a zerg you would probaly die and don’t even see it. Major problem in zerg fights is by far culling thou. That is the thing that should be fixed asap if possible.
I go a step further here. If someone is in the red circle, they should be hit. How many times do you see entire zergs stacking on a point? They should ALL be hit by AOE if they want to use that tactic.
I’m embarrassed by some of the TC posters recently. Let’s show some better sportsmanship.
As for the score, yes, it is completely lopsided. That said, there are still some great fights to find. For example on Saturday night US eastern time, SoR had knocked down our keep’s outer and inner wall in EB. There was a fight between the walls and in the lord room for well over 1 hour. I have to say that battle was one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had in WvW.
Here’s hoping for more fun battles the rest of this week and that the poor sports on any server just go away.
Go TC!
100% disagree with the OP. This is actually a fun part of the game. Any commander worth his tag knows how to kill the siege there anyway.
Great idea! I like the idea of 48 hour matches. Currently, the most fun of the week is on Friday night reset when everyone is fighting for position.
I also suggest randomizing the colors. Instead of 1st being green, 2nd blue, and 3rd red, randomly assign servers to the colors each week. That would add a new dynamic as well.
