A premade on vent facing a pug of players just doing whatever. Not really impressive especially against elementalists in a choke point. You probably would have the same kills in a siege situation. Neither are really brag worthy.
Sounds like jealousy. Were you one of the 30? haha
Personally, I am really looking forward to BG moving to tier 1 (they’ve earned it for sure) and a new server entering tier 2. The reason is about coverage. Right now TC and SoR have their peak times around the same time. BG is definitely strongest during the oceanic time slot. For me, the most fun is when all 3 servers have their peak around the same time. That leads to a much more exciting time for all involved.
Double teams do not work. Any server will attack based on their own interests.
Also, even though someone may feel they are being double teamed, in reality all 3 servers are fighting each other.
Anyone else who feels the same, do like I have done and go play another game. One that actually has competent staff who understand when 50% of the player base is playing a single class, that perhaps you have a problem.
You clearly do not play tPvP which is where the e-sport you mention would live. In the meantime, practice a bit.
The reality is that the reason sPvP/tPvP isn’t as popular is because most people are choosing WvW as their end game.
People are still complaining about thieves? I just played WvW for 7 straight hours. 0 deaths due to thieves. I laugh whenever I see someone try to heartseeker me.
Here are a few hints for everyone. By the nature of the spec, most backstab types thieves do not carry any stun breakers. So stun them. They die fast.
For permastealth thieves, AOE. The damage output of that spec is laughable so you can take a few hits. Just don’t try to run away or they will kill you. Its better to use your dodges and aoe the area. Very soon you will see a thief in the downstate.
Ok, can we now move on to more important balance issues? The only spec that is currently OP in this game is d/d ele.
I really hope TC/SoR focus more on each other and fight for second this time around rather than putting so much focus on BG. You guys won’t win that way. :<
Technically wont win focusing on each other anyways. The idea of focusing on the leader is to deprive them of getting the potential points they need. If we ignored you and went after each other, it more or less means you can do what you want. It makes no sense to focus on each other.
Doesn’t make sense for SoR because you are already in 2nd and want to keep it that way. BUT it does make sense for TC if they actually want to progress and move into 2nd place. Afterall, you have to be 2nd before you can become 1st. TC ignoring SoR only helps SoR hold 2nd place while it guarantees that TC will stay in third.
What ends up happening is 2nd and 3rd fight amongst themselves, allowing 1st to steamroll in potential points. Fighting for 2nd doesn’t work in anyones favour except for 1st place. If both 2nd and 3rd set their sights for 1st, they serve a dual purpose, they not only work on getting themselves potential points, but they deprive 1st from theirs preventing a massive point lead. The 2nd and 3rd place would be smarter to focus on 1st to actually have a chance in a match. It also keeps things much more interesting and competitive.
Easy to say from a second place perspective, but if TC ever wants to progress, they have to focus SoR. What is much more likely is that the people on TC will do what they want because they’re not a hivemind.
You probably play mostly on a BL map. At the time that you wrote this, TC owned a big piece of the blue map in EB.
The truth is thieves are op versus weak players who just started playing and complaining about them. Versus good players and versus actual meta-bunker-game they are unplayable imo.
.
This is quite true. As I’ve said before, thieves are the easiest class to kill. They are great at killing each other, but they are not as good as killing other classes against anyone with above average skills (on a consistent basis. Everyone can get lucky sometimes)
You put a lot of thought into your ideas, but I do not agree with most. Here is the reality… A thief will never beat any good Mesmer, ele, engi, or warrior 1 on 1. Thieves are actually best at killing other thieves. From what I’ve seen, a lot of QQ threads in general are from thieves who got killed by another thief who is more skilled.
Your damage changes wouldn’t change anything. The thief has already seen a lot of nerfs. People hate stealth, and that will always be the case.
The ironic thing is that mesmers and eles are really the OP classes at the moment; thieves are just the most annoying.
Wait noooo. I thought Anet only played <insert qq class of the week>
What PvP rank are you?
I’m rank 30 play a thief condition spec myself and there is nothing i haven’t encountered on my thief that I can’t kill in under 10 seconds. The best bunker guardian with awesome condition removal will crumble before me. I get a 4 second daze from my steal and switch to my pistol’s vs bunkers and burn them down by mixing blind, bleed, and high unload spike dmg while timing my daze with the stolen over the top insane daze for 4 seconds.
My question to you is how little common sense can you have to not realize when your playing something set to monkey easy mode in pvp?
Have you ever won a tournament in another game for real life cash?
Have you ever been ranked by game pro as one of the best pvpers in a game?
Have you come in .01% in the ranking system of any pvp game with over 10 million players?
Because if you have you would never embaress yourself by defending a class this overpowered.
Yawn. Another member pretending to be a thief complaining because he got pwned. Nothing to see here.
The fact that it is ending is the best gift of all.
No way. This was an awesome event. It didn’t take away from the core game at all and gave people some extra things to do if they wanted to.
I can pretty much make it every time I try. My guess is that if you are having trouble, you either have really low frame rates or are trying to use a touchpad on a laptop. Both of those are tough.
Just an update: I just played for about 5 hours in WvW on warrior. I didn’t die once to a thief. Mesmers and Eles are way stronger classes to fight against… at least for me.
So, I’ve heard a lot of people discussing the thief class and the balance. My main has always been a warrior, but I decided to try a thief to give some fair feedback. Also, keep in mind that this will not apply to all thieves. It is just an average. Certain players are very skilled, but that doesn’t mean it is indicative of the class. Anyway, here is what I’ve found.
General Comments: The thief excels attacking opponents who are not ready for it. A thief will die in any fair 1 v 1. In fact, thieves are typically my first target as a warrior since they die the easiest.
sPvP: This is the main area where the thief can be good. The reason is that a lot of people are more focused on glory farming or testing new classes than focusing on the PvP. It is a lot easier for a thief to catch people off guard and get a kill. Verdict: One of the top 3 classes.
tPvP: The thief really isn’t that great except against pug teams. Any team that actually has bunker defenders will laugh as a thief tries to backstab them or kill in some other way. Especially with the mobility gains for the other classes, the thief isn’t that great. Verdict: Bottom half of classes.
WvW: Most WvW is a zerg fest. Thieves are ok with the shortbow, but can’t really handle any of the dps that is usually involved. They can spec to handle it better, but then they lose a lot of DPS. The other time where they can get 1 v1 kills is if they find an opponent out of place. You know, those wondering around the map solo (not smart). A thief can do a decent job there, but it depends on finding a player who is running quickly to get in position with their zerg or just doesn’t understand what to do. Verdict: About an average class overall
Dungeons: I know this one has a lot of debate, but thieves are not that great. Sure, they have their blinds and stealth, but they die quickly. I think that I need to up downed thieves more than any other class in a dungeon. If they spec more for survivability, their DPS is horrible. Verdict: One of the bottom 2 classes.
Overall: Thieves certainly do not need any nerfs and likely could use some buffs in a few areas. In particular, I’d say slightly more damage with the shortbow and less endurance needed for dodging. That would help with some of the issues in dungeons and WvW. Burst damage is fine as is.
Warriors are NOT weak. That said they could use buffs in some areas and nerfs to things like killshot.
I’m not looking for help in beating thieves.
My best achievement was beating 2 thieves at once with no help despite their cheap tactics. Granted they weren’t the best I’ve faced! But it was pretty awesome. The point is, I don’t enjoy the match when I have to play with invisible people. It’s the same reason I never could get into WvW. The culling was just not a good time. In sPvP, it’s a different source of invisible enemies but also not a good time.
You do realize that thieves are the easiest class to kill, right? AOE is your friend.
The bigger issue in general is that it sucks to have a thief on your dungeon team. They are by far the weakest dungeon class.
So wrong that ANet needs to add a -1 feature just for your comment.
You are also a thief so of course you will say they are useful in the dungeons. Ask any non-thief at higher level fractals which class is the weakest and they will say thief or maybe a ranger who can’t control his pet.
My point though is that any thief build, signet or not, will have haters in the dungeons. Sure thieves can bring some things to the table when they aren’t in the downstate, but a team will typically be better suited adding an additional warrior or guardian instead of the thief.
The reality is that the thief has been nerfed too much based on sPvP and now is severely lacking in other parts of the game such as dungeons.
900 games played on my warrior and the first time I downed a rogue 1v1 was today.
Wow, just wow. Thieves are the FIRST class I attack as warrior. They are by far the easiest to kill.
I’m guessing you are in one of the 3 situations:
1. You have a really bad spec.
2. Your do not attack thieves correctly.
3. You are exaggerating to make a point.
That is kind of silly, you’re telling me they cannot organize patch notes in their ALM process?
Oh well, thanks for letting me know kirito
or just read the announcements section.
Disagree completely with the OP. What I like about this game is that as a solo gamer it is easy to find randoms.
hi im searching for a reason why the game
i know ill get a lot of bad responses to this too ….
Look me up sometime. I’ll teach you how to play warrior or guardian. Problem solved.
Serious answer to your question though… the armor isn’t the big part. Its about the skills you select. think about it this way, why are bunker eles, who have light armor, the strongest point holders in the game?
This is a horrible change. The Mesmer portal is a great tool both for offense and defense.
1- Stealth render glitch-
2- Target system while in stealth-
3- Heartseeker- -
I agree with 1 and 2. 3 doesn’t make much sense. No good thief spams heartseeker. You should be happy if a thief does that to you. It means they are wasting their initiative.
Now on the other hand, if you are dying to some nooby heartseeker spammer, you really need to work on your play style. There is no stun with heartseeker. It is easy enough to avoid.
ArenaNet, did you learn nothing at all from the fiasco that was the Mad King’s Clocktower?
The Winter Wonderland is even worse than the Clocktower. I didn’t think it could be done, but somehow you did it. You made a jumping puzzle that is even more impossible (yes, I know that it’s impossible to be more than impossible, but this is indeed even more impossible). .
Nooo, this puzzle is easier than clock tower for sure and is even easier than the JP from the November event. The difference is that this puzzle is actually fun once you figure it out.
What is it with the limited items, limited everything when it comes to events in GW2? Will you stop it?
You scare me. You really need a second hobby.
This winter event is fun. That’s all that matters. Just enjoy it or if it is not fun for you, then skip the event and do the activities you enjoy. No one is making you take part in the event.
And who would the “vocal minority” be? You and the other 4 who thought the puzzle was too easy or me and the other 40 who thought it is a -beep-?
Well said. This is a fantastic update. There will always be whiners like the OP, but for everyone else this is fun.
Easier than the clocktower yes, but I think it is more fun. Also, one of the 3 paths is harder than the other 2.
It is fun… Just reduce the wait time between attempts.
I only see buffs for thieves and warriors. Should’ve rolled one to 80.
haha, I’m sure you were thinking up that response all day.
Seriously though, it seems like every class got buffed. That is a good thing. I am tired of seeing nerfs all the time. Buffing classes is a much better way to go.
I just hope we see the end of nerfs. It seems as if we need to keep getting better and better gear just to stay where we were prior to the most recent nerf. Not fun.
I don’t really have an issue with stealth as a warrior. Thieves are squishy and the easiest class to kill. I can’t remember the last time one killed me other than maybe if I was on auto run looking at the map.
Mesmers don’t have stealth enough for it to really matter.
I think that as the skill level of players increase, they will find that the stealth classes are not that strong.
If you fought a P/D condition thief you will notice they are in stealth basically every 3-5 seconds. You would have no chance trying to kill something you can’t see.
Sure you can. Just AOE around the area and use dodges if they stealth. They are quite easy to kill.
Now I will admit that if a thief wants to get away they can. That is actually fine with me. In WvW my objective is to either take a point or to defend it. A thief running away is the same threat as a dead thief…. none.

I’m pretty sure someone at ArenaNet stated, in an interview at one point, that they didn’t want thieves to have stealth available at all times, and that’s exactly what they gave them. I noticed in early beta videos at conventions that you choose to play a thief in SPvP, Mr. Peters. ahems
He mains a warrior but nice try.
To me, the long bow is not very valuable in the current state. So I have a few crazy ideas that I think might work.
1. Increase the fire rate for the long bow auto attack
2. Have the long bow reach 1500 by default (Currently this requires Eagle Eye)
3. Modify Eagle eye to allow for a range of up to 1800. The downside is that if someone wants the skill, their movement would be reduced by 50%.
4. For all long bow attacks, keep the power the same as today for attacks where the enemy is at a range of 1000 or less. Increase the damage by 15% if the enemy is between 1000-max range.
I am a member of TC. Personally, I am enjoying the battle with CD and FA. Last night was some of the most fun that I’ve had in WvW. We had a zerg vs zerg standoff with CD for 2+ hours outside QL and Dane. There was siege and counter siege on both sides and no one was really gaining ground. Just a lot of fun.
I hope the great battles keep going.
This class is the most difficult to discuss when it comes to fixes. The reason? Thieves are annoying. I think that is what generates a lot of the hate towards the class. Let’s look at a thief in each scenario:
1. sPVP- They prey on those with no stun-breakers or low health
2. WvW- Usually ranged attacks unless they find someone who isn’t paying attention. Thieves die quickly.
3. Dungeons- I hate when a thief is on my dungeon team. They are virtually always the class that spends the most time in the down state
Like I said earlier, thieves are annoying. That said, if I am playing on my warrior, thieves are my first target because they die the fastest. Also, no thief will ever beat me 1 on 1 if I see them coming. They definitely need the stealth.
Overall, I’d say the thief is an average class and needs buffs in some areas. If I had to make some changes to the class, I’d suggest the following:
1. Reduce the damage on backstab by 10%
2. Increase the damage on cloak & dagger back to what it was before the last nerf
3. Decrease the initiative required for dancing dagger by 1
4. Reduce the amount of endurance needed to dodge
5. Change the sound for heartseeker and death blossom. It is annoying.
People still complain about thiefs? They are by far the easiest class to kill. If I see a thief, that’s my first target.
Appreciate the effort, but please revert back. I had to log out of the game when we were invading SM. Not ideal.
I was also having trouble seeing members of my own zerg when no one else was around us.
The old implementation was better.
