My opinion? ANET forgot to balance the heal skills. They came up with some cool ideas and just implemented them.
Mesmer skill? Really going to make this class OP? Clearly no thought into that.
Thief skill? Yeah, I’d like to see how many thieves use that. Worthless

I don’t get why ANET introduces new heal skills when they can’t even balance the skills they already have. Just look to the number of changes coming in the Dec 10 balance patch for proof.

What map? I rarely see TC people play defense.
Let’s hope next season the most evenly matched servers are kept together. SoS, Mag, FA, and SBI should never have been separated.

By looking at the leaderboard, it looks like the Glicko ratings have been kept active behind the scenes. So are servers going to be ranked by current ratings like the leaderboard and the matches based on that?

@OP: you win for worst thread. You want to nerf a skill that helps combat the overall condi meta that exists today? You must be a condi spec.
Thieves should not be able to use any weapons. Once a thief looked at me and without attacking me, I received 35k damage. This is with my 30,000 HP and 3,500 toughness.
Why should thieves be able to do so much damage to me without them even attacking????

These were originally intended to be mini dungeons but they keep getting longer. I think each fractal should take no more than maybe 15 minutes to beat. Beyond that it just feels like a grind
Commander system changes:
1. Currently a tag is on or off. A third category would be good: Guild only. When that is selected, the tag is only visible to members of their guild
2. Increase supply check radius
3. Allow commanders to unclaim structures when there are no buffs. For example if a person claims a tower but gives it no buffs, a commander should be able to unclaim it.
4. Make it earnable. It should be a base of 100 gold + a certain number of WvW achievements to use it in WvW or a certain number of PvE achievements to use it there.
5. The tag should be account bound
@Devon- if you were to only make one change initially, I’d say it would be the ability to only show tags to guild members.
The best thing you can do is break them up into 2-4 groups and attack multiple targets at the same time. You’re almost guaranteed to get 1-3 of your targets. With a blob you’re not guaranteed anything. 3-4 acs and a door treb can almost always defend against a blob.
Blobbing is externally admitting that you suck while internally thinking that you’re skilled.
Actually blobbing or not, people tend to be good at one component of the game. I’ve seen the best GvG guilds get run over in open field combat and the best open field guilds get run over in GvG. Why? Totally different fight styles.
It really isn’t possible to have a tie given the number of points involved.
2x a week reset is a better solution. If we implemented the 48 hour that you suggested, servers would play hard for those first 48 hours and then the rest of the week would be a karma train.
less effective yes i totally agree. but i more than get the job done unless its 2 v 1 then i need room to play. its quite viable but there is no thief bunker build better than p/d. there just isnt. but the fact about thief being less effective than EVERY other class to bunker? yep i agree. thief are in bottom 2 classes wanted for tpvp/.
This depends on the spec. For tPvP, thieves only fit into 2 roles: burst, boon steal. Both have a secondary role of res. After the balance patch, probably burst will be the only viable role and quite honestly, I’m not convinced why I’d want a thief vs a burst mesmer.
As for bunker, I think we need to separate defensive from a true bunker. No thief spec is a great bunker. Other classes do that much better. What P/D brings to the table is the ability to engage multiple targets. It is a fun hotjoin spec, but most of the value is for roaming in WvW.
My suggestion for season 2: Only use the first 48 hours of a matchup for the ranking. The first 48 hours are usually the most even hours of a matchup with nightcapping being far less of a problem than during the week when everyone has to go to work or school.
I’d make an adjustment to this…. Have 2 matches per week. Resets would be on Fridays the same time as today, and on Tuesdays at the same time as Friday.
@OP: Horrible idea. You want to merge servers because of blackgate? There is a bigger world out there than just one server you know.
The bigger need is to find ways to balance the population. I know there was a preliminary CDI on that topic and I’ve heard it will be revisited soon.

No, the game meant to be balanced, but we don’t really care or have enough cash miked from our community to get people to work on it. Or had time before game release to get the system checked, tested or immaginatively designed. so we came up with this carcas people still play with and hope to get the game working as intended future. But that would require someone going over the horribly written code and try CPR for a couple of years.

You clearly are new here. WvW was always discussed as unbalanced. That is fine.
As to the OP: I’m sure there will be a way to get everything you need in WvW. What people do not understand is that WvW may not always be the BEST place to get the mats. That is perfectly fine. You’ll eventually earn the same stuff just by playing WvW.
@OP: You act as if overall score really matters. Just find a server where the fights are competitive at the time you play. Beyond that, who cares?

Is is bannable? No
Most importantly, who cares? The only thing rank means is that someone has played a lot. It does not mean they are good or anything else. So in the end, who cares?
I think it is well done by ANET. It is really fun to both watch and participate in fights there. Plus direct access to OS gives people something to do while waiting for the queue.

If it is a P/D condi thief, then a max regen warrior is the counter. You’ll have regen of 800-1000 a second and their condis won’t even hurt you.
now correct me if im wrong here but the last major nerf to pve thieves was -15% damage to pistolwhip nearly a full year ago so why should we be afraid of nerfs?
A bigger nerf was probably when enemies stopping losing track of you when you stealth.
Thieves are good for certain things. They are not one of the stronger dungeon/fractals classes though.

CDI is designed to create mind share and effect design philosophy and therefore will effect development. Personally i think DC covered that pretty well in his post. I would have worded the first sentence slightly differently though:
‘To be clear, this initiative is about discussion and not necessarily about action.’
‘To be clear, this initiative is focused around discussion which in turn will effect how Guild Wars 2 is developed moving forward.’
We will and do talk about ideas put forward to or created by the CDI that we intend to take further, however we won’t be talking about timing around feature deployment etc.

I think what you say makes a lot of sense. As long as CDI will allow an open discussion on a particular topic and then certain pieces are then turned into action, it is a good thing. I think there is a general perception right now that there is a ANET vision for WvW that is not adjustable. It will be good to see some flexibility on that.

If a T1 server can so manipulate the score to allow a T2 server to beat another T1 server, is the server (being 2v1’d) really a top server anymore?I’ll make it simple for you, at this stage SOR is a T2 server, there you happy?
You guys all miss the point. SoR has one bad week and everyone thinks they are finished as a server? Look at what they did last weekend.
or better yet, go back and look at their history. They will occasionally just have a week where they do not show up. Who knows why and it doesn’t matter. They bounce back.
Removing downed state would be a good start.

I certainly do not speak for the rest of TC, but I prefer being in T2.
TC, SoS, Mag, FA all seem to be more about the fights. T1 is great strategy, but those servers are way too focused on PPT.
The next topic for WvW after skill lag is: Commander mechanics and Commander tag functionality.
Then when is WXP cause that is a definite hot button topic and has been for a long time?

I am only aware of the top three in each area and WXP wasn’t one of them. I would imagine WvW progression was pretty high up though. It is certainly a discussion i would like to see.

The commander system would be a great next topic for WvW. I’ve seen a lot of ideas from the community around that and I think it could make for really good discussion.
There’s a sentiment on JQ that SoR threw week 1 via all-out 2v1 to force us into 3rd place that week, and JQ is trying to bury SoR this week to kick them out of the top 3 as payback.
This is probably true. Also, if people remember a lot of the board chatter prior to the leagues, this was predicted. SoR really had no friends and in a league, working together with other servers at times is important.
That said, I think SoR as a server is fine. Look what they did to us (TC) last week. The difference is this… last week, mag focused more on TC than on SoR. This week, JQ is focusing more on SoR than TC. Every week, something like that happens during any match.
@OP. T3 is nice, but wait until TC, Mag, and SoS get ahold of you.
Oh I can’t wait. Get to stop hearing so much complaining and actually face servers who have numbers.
ANET never should have split FA, SoS, Mag, and SBI. Those were the 4 closest servers in the game.

I have been thinking about this for a few days and believe the major issue would be the overall velocity of the CDI, and the main Pro being that we will have more time to enter into discussions due to only having to focus on one at a time.

I like the proposal, although I would switch it to WvW, then PvP, the PvE. The reason is that during the first CDI, PvE was the most successful. There was great dialog. The PvP thread was second and had a lot of good ideas discussed. The WvW thread was mostly players talking to each other. It would be great to see your presence there discussing a particular topic.
Regarding WvW, I’d either like to see a continuation of the “World Population” thread or a discussion around the amount of PvE in the WvW game mode.

No one would WvW with any type of good gear if that was the case. Not a good idea as it would just make the game lame.

They haven’t ruined the game. they’ve balanced it so that all players can enjoy it. Most thieves still enjoy their thief and will continue to enjoy playing it long after the December 10th patch. As anet said, the init change is a massive buff. You should trust them.
I sometimes wonder if you even play a thief since you don’t make sense most of the time. Initiative change is a buff for certain very specific builds. It is not a massive buff for all as you say.
Should your PvP experience influence other parts of the game? This is not to say you would change the dynamic of “everyone is equal” pvp.
Consider the following as examples:
1) PvP wins provide points for WvW seasons.
2) You can level your characters in pvp all the way to 80.
3) PvP is a way to get key crafting materials, new rune sets etc that you can use outside of PvP.Is the problem with PvP that it sits totally outside the rest of the game?
1. No. WvW is not equal to PvP. They should be influence each other
2. No. Characters are already 80 in PvP. They do not need to be leveled there.
3. Agreed. I like the idea
4. and most important… allow PvP in certain areas of PvE.

So many people in this thread have no clue. Want to know why people zerg? Here is the shocking answer…. because it is the most fun for them. Rewards are not the most important.
Surprise! A lot of people actually like seeing large open field fights.
Saying strongest class is not really the best question since each class has different builds that are stronger than others.
To play along with the thread though, the strongest 1v1 class is mesmer.
I do not think skyhammer needs changes. It is a fun map for sPvP. It just is not a good map for tPvP or for solo queue and should never appear there.
About the same number as you SOR fit on the tc hills vista before having a tea party there for 15mins while not owning anything else on the map. It’s not like you’re not qued on SOR…
Lol kid you have 80 CERN/Pugs under one tag. Thats 35 HEL on vista, and we had 25 HL trying to cause havoc elsewhere to pull the entire TC server out of hills lol. Dont act like youre not running a million people champ.

Skyhammer: Fine for sPvP; Bad for team or solo queue
or get a cleric guard. burst heal and cleanse output is quite a bit larger, except you’re mobile, provide perma prot/swiftness/regen and up to 15s of stability, and dont need water field setup or to waste blast finishers. recent Healing Breeze buff has only made the spec more awesome. Cleric Guard heal/boonbots have existed for well over a year, but very few guilds know how to maximize the spec.
just to give you an idea, the numbers on my cleric guard look something like: 3300, 3300, 3500, 3500, 1800, 1800, 1800, 1500, and 4200 healing breeze , over about 6 seconds on each person, plus constant 320 ticks of regen. not to mention 4.4k healing/sec when i pop my ToC. u dont bring the cleric guard just for heals. i can quickly stack 21 might, cleanse about 15 condis over 3 seconds from each person, and pop other boons if needed. this is all coming from just one guard while on the run.
water field blasting by an organized melee train is superior for its burst heals, but you 1) have to set it up, 2) require a critical mass of frontliners (at least 10), and 3) have to use up your blast finisher. in organized fights, guilds get smashed on the regroup when trying to pull this maneuver off.
How are you calculating this?
