Perma stealth is the issue. I can literally kill an enemy inside a group of five and never get hit because of permastealth. The enemies swing blindly, and anyone who has synapses knows how to avoid them. Only if I take more risks or make a mistake do I die. It’s hands down the easiest class I’ve ever played in any MMO. Some of us would like a bigger challenge.

Just some advice. If something isn’t a challenge for you, try something else. Oh, and post some of your videos. If everyone sees your insane skills, then maybe ANET will take action.

It’s not really a problem with thieves or mesmers (who have certain specs with tons of stealth) or warriors or any other roaming class spec. The issue is with your set up. The roaming classes are set up for 1v1 type fights. As you mentioned, you are trying to get to a commander. If you are smart, that means you are running a more group focused spec. You really have no chance against someone who is looking for a 1v1. That is actually perfectly fine. Those 1v1 specs would be considered “rally bots” if they were running with the commander.
The solution isn’t a change to classes. The solution is to run in groups back to a commander.
It really comes down to how you want to play WvW.
Team deathmatch? Yes please. It would actually be fun to watch as well.
CTF? No ty. In order to try to balance it, they’d have to start disabling skills (think orb runs) which is not fun.
When they used to follow the manifesto? Yes. Now? No.
Currently thief just can’t beat some builds. Thief is not a good roaming class. Warrior is the OP current 1v1 champion. Mesmer might be second but much slower to roam. Guardian is at LEAST third best roaming class…thief is somewhere around last.

Thief is by far the best roaming class. Good for 1v1 or even fighting outnumbered, you can easily get out of a fight if you decide you can’t handle it, great mobility, high DPS, etc.
Great choice going with thief. If you are still looking for a build (i know it’s 2 months later) I would recommend youtubing “Yishis.” He has great gameplay footage along with his builds and gives full commentary on his tactics and reasoning.
You are both partially right. thief is a good roaming class although, although mesmer is the best 1v1 class.
Fear is not fun to fight against. Of all skills in the game, it is the one that I wish was removed entirely.
@OP: You do not understand the philosophy. They do not intend to balance the game. Instead they want to keep it dynamic.
I’m sure anyone with half a brain knows if balance was the goal, it is a total fail.
Update: Just ran a 4th solo queue. I am now up to 4 4v5 in a row.

What is sad is that the two newest maps that ANET has built are 2 of the 3 worst. There are only 4 good maps right now…. forest, temple, foefire and kyhlo. The rest are just terrible.

you are missing the main point though. That’s why you adjust the recharge. It’s not like someone can plan for 2 backstabs (and not everyone uses dagger mainhand). Sure it could happen once in a while, but it isn’t that big of a deal.
@OP: It is average in WvW. Any opponent with half a brain doesn’t just stand in the circle while doing melee against the thief.
It is strong in PvE type events, but that is most based on the AI design of the NPC.

Eles are by far the worst class in the game at the moment. They most certainly aren’t able to become “virtually unkillable”, even in WvW, and… Sustained burst? Really? Not only does that not qualify as burst, by definition, but that’s completely untrue anyways. You clearly have never played the class before.
No they are not that bad. People have been complaining about eles ever since they got nerfed awhile back. Playing ele at the time was godmode. Now that it is in a decent spot, most people can’t adapt.
If you’ve never played a defensive oriented ele in WvW, I don’t know what to say to you. I watched two GC thieves and one warrior chasing around an ele the other day. They couldn’t kill him. If that isn’t unkillable, I don’t think you have a clue.

I play a DPS Guard in sPvP, and while I’m fairly new, the sPvP comunity isn’t helping me to stick to this side of the game. I often encounter the most awful people that I never did before in this game. My conclutions of 2 weeks of sPvP everyday (solo qs) are these:Either I go Bunker with my Guard and people are “less” idiots since they need me
Or I’m DPS like I would like to master (I don’t like being Bunker) and I’m the most useless, the most noob that exists in this game.
Like literally, the first time I got into a solo q I said “playing DPS guys, hi” and the mesmer comes “then you are useless” like what is her/his problem with me?
I feel like I wither g Bunker and don’t enjoy playing with my main class or I better make a new character like and Engi, or Phantasm Mesmer or Minion Master Necro because otherwise I’m a worthless piece of nothing ….What is wrong with you people? Are you that big of a comunity that don’t need any more members so lets insult any new player that comes? Seriously.
The problem is just that…. the FIRST time you went into solo queue. You are being matched with a lot of people who have no idea what they are talking about. Go watch someone like a stunningstyles who plays at the highest levels with a more dps oriented build

sPvP: For fun or to play around with new builds/classes
Solo: Similar to sPvP, but with slightly more team communication
Team: Where you put everything you learned into practice. Need great team communication.
But, just off the top of my head, maybe ANET could throw in something like
New Trait. Deadly Arts (Master): Malicious Daggers – 50% chance to inflict torment with critical strikes from dagger attacks. 2 stacks for 3 seconds. 5 second ICD.
I like it. It might also lead to some more rabid P/D builds vs the generic carrion or dire.
The problem though, is that there still needs to be a new grandmaster trait. Right now, I can’t think of any reason to go 30 points into DA on any weaponset with the possible exception of a venomshare.

This. Single target skills should always hit for more damage than general AOE. It should never even be close. It is way to easy to just pain circles on capture points and doesn’t really take much talent to do so.

btw. welcome to pvp. In this game mode, there are point you need to stand on. Mindless AOE is a good way to make people get off those points. Try it sometime. You’ll see.
I’m not recommending that AOE be removed. It just should have way less damage than single target.

T2 NA has a lot of GvG guilds. T1 doesn’t, as far as I know.
T2 and T3 seems to be where the majority of the NA GvG are held. I just wouldn’t transfer to SoS since 2 of the top NA guilds are there in EP and Agg.
Over the last couple months I’ve stacked dragonite like 3 or 4 times… If it got buffed I’d be out of space lol
Except that you need 6 stacks per armor set and that doesn’t even count the weapons.
Another option would be to eliminate the account bound flag on these materials.

Probably 6 months ago, there was a post from ANET discussing AOE and how it needed to be nerfed. In the time since, AOE has just gotten stronger.
So, whatever happened with this? Fights are a lot more fun when people need to pick a target and attack and not just mindlessly spam AOE in the general area.
Anytime there is actually a quality player on the ele and not just some complainer. The same goes for any class in the game.
Why do eles complain so much? They can already spec in a way to have the highest sustained burst in the game (mostly seen in PvP), and they can also spec completely differently and be virtually unkillable (mostly seen in WvW).
So the question stands…. why do they complain so much?
I think eles should start each match dead. The rest of the team has to rez the ele and try to keep him/her alive for more than 30 seconds. If they can successfully do it, they automatically win the match.

All fear skills should have their cooldown duration increased. It is not a fun skill to fight against.
I am fine with people who stack condi damage. What needs to change though is the distinction between single target condi damage and AOE condi damage. Single target is in a good spot. AOE condi needs to be nerfed hard.

Sacrx and RG were well respected by a portion of the community. Those of us who were sad to see him/them go are very happy they’ve decided to come back on to the scene. They left the scene just as the GvG scene was taking off in NA and a lot of the new faces never got a chance to fight them.
Will definitely be interesting to see if they can adapt to the new meta and then if so, how they do against the top EU and NA GvG groups now.
You can definitely tell the difference between a PvP (way more deaths) person and a WvW (way more kills) person.

Way too many changes to consider all at once. It would completely change the dynamic of the game and ANET would never try to make that massive of a change. The issue is that currently there are only 2 weaponsets that are “good”. D/P and S/D. I personally would not touch those for another balance patch or 2 (with the exception of dagger offhand)
Instead, your list should really focus on the main need areas: dagger offhand (4-5), P/P and P/D (1-3), S/P (1-3). More playstyles would definitely be a good thing.
Oh, and a grandmaster trait in deadly arts that has some value would be nice.

In a zerg, the cast time does not matter. It is constant red circles anyway. You missed the entire point though, all classes have GC builds.

Legendary weapons have been in the game since launch I think. The grind has always been there from day 1.
There isn’t really much different between ascended and legendaries beyond ascended require a lot less RNG and gold.
Wrong. Ascended is a lot more work than a legendary. Think about it. A legendary is one weapon. Ascended is 6 armor pieces, multiple weapons, and 6 trinkets/back items. It takes a lot of work for those.
Anyway, back to the manifesto, if they actually still believed in it, ascended armor/weapons/trinkets should be sold in the TP. Why should I be forced to grind? Legendaries can be the only grind item in the game that way.

10/30/0/0/30 D/P + SB has been the meta for burst Thief for months now, I’m not sure why you are under the impression that is is only since the 10th Dec patch.
It has been the D/P meta for months. The dec change just made D/P more popular than S/D.
My Server after MONTHS finally get a new match up and thats only because they have been losing bad on purpose to drop down the rankings so they can get to fight other servers…

Downstate does not help the organized 5 man or 10 man. In a zergbusting situation, 9x out of 10 if you go down you die. That is why us skilled players dont rely on rally tactics to win but rather living. If we count a down as a death (esp as a guard, a warrior, a necro or any other CC based 2 ability) then we only have maybe 2 players that can actually have a shot at being rallied (mesmer and ele) I see all these little zergblobers saying oh downstate helps organized groups hurdurhur and frankly im sick of it. Obviously its not going to be changed but can we at least agree that downstate helps the zerg (esp with dumb rally mechanic) far more than it helps a zergbuster group.
We cannot rally our dead from stomped and fully dead, you can blob res them. we cannot afford to sit in AOEs and blob res downed players before a stomp is even possible. YOU can. (well you can try [enter nuke emoji])
Actually skilled players understand the downed mechanic and adapt their strategy. You clearly are not one of them.

reading some of these posts gave me cancer. i really think anet is better off attending to players who have actually proven themselves through tournaments and ‘well known’ players rather than random jibjabs on the forum.

Out of curiosity I ask why, when anyone goes to balance this game, do they nerf the game!?!?! Why not bring classes up like elementalist and mesmer to the current lvl of survivability and damage with the same risk reward as other meta classes. While I want Risk/Reward to be balanced, it makes more sense to up the risk rather than decrease the reward. Team fights at top tier last quite a long time and consist of many of the same builds and classes. That is why rather than nerfing the "meta’ i suggest we Increase the viability of other classes as well as create more build diversity within classes that are meta or not. In all of these recent “documents” all ive seen is nerfs to survivability and damage…. While i agree that some of the builds have too much survivability i think that rather than drastically decreasing some of those classes I strongly think that granting other classes more damage to combat the survivability is a better way to balance the game. Im open to other ideas or opinions about the matter!

Here is a list that ranks professions/specs according to how much influence they have in creating the meta.
S tier—huge impact on both builds and strategies
Burst thief (locks out all other glass builds)
Condi necro (only major player that forces cleansing to be in every build and can aoe pressure)A tier
Bunker guardian (requires some countering/consideration but not from every player on a team)
Bomb/nade engineer (combo of CC and condi spam, but can generally be focused out so has less impact)B tier
Hambow warriors (like a mini engi but cannot be focused)
Spirit ranger/tank warrior (when has anyone said “but how do we handle their spirit rangers!?” You don’t change much when facing them but they have become a benchmark for viability)C tier—minimal influence on meta
Zerk warrior/necro/guard (aoe burst making a comeback as players are running a little less defense. Lich form keeping people honest since beta)
Elementalist (same as above, plus have team healing, cannot overcome thief barrier however)
