If a mesmer loses to a thief, then the mesmer is just plain bad. Mesmer is by far the best 1v1 class.

The matches only last for 4 hours each, so the servers assigned to each color do not matter as much. You are also random put into a eotm instance, so you won’t see big guild groups dominate it.

The reason D/P is so prolific is because it is a low risk play style in a target rich environment. Virtually every other thief build requires a moderate amount of skill to survive with even with a toughened up build.

As I have said before the problem lies with Heartseeker in the same weapon set as Blinding Powder. Switching Death Blossom and Heartseeker would effectively “fix” the D/P issue most players have grown to hate.

Course two sigils in two handers are going to make a melee thief’s life more difficult.

Actually death blossom should be removed from D/D. A condi attack does not fit into a weaponset that also has the biggest burst.

Dedicated EOTM Roamers

PPT doesnt matter, EoTM or no EoTM doesnt change that. A new map filled with pve mobs sounds amazing for pvp… oh wait, not really that much.

Time will tell I guess. Everything else ANET has done has been absolute garbage, I guess I lost my hope somewhere along the way.

There are no PvE mobs in EotM at all, save for the occasional sentry, guards, and of course the objective champions (keep lords, etc).

Now, I suppose there are a few aetherblades in there for the introduction of the map, but they’ll be gone in a few weeks.

You didn’t mention the other PvE events that allow you to gain buffs for your side. There are also a lot of other types of mobs running around such as words, etc.

Well, you see, everything is a PvE event in some way. Capturing a keep, tower, supply camp, those could all be considered PvE events. I have (jokingly) described WvW as “PvE with other players trying to stop you.”

When people say they have a problem with “PvE in WvW”, they don’t really mean they have a problem with events in WvW … WvW is all events. They have a problem with the way some of these Living Story events have been implemented, which I agree has been handled rather badly.

The new events in EotM have been designed as WvW events though (not just events from PvE maps copy/pasted in), and I believe they fit in well in a competitive environment.

Still feel the amount of PvE in the mists map is ok?

The problem with this whole change is that ANET is trying to solve for the wrong problem. The issue is with zerker gear and warriors in PvE. No one ever asks for 5 GC mesmers to run a dungeon. The problem is the damage/defense ratio of the warrior. They can go all zerker and still be fine defensively.

Fix the warrior. Don’t mess around with crit damage. At the end of this change, you’ll still have zerker warriors be the king of PvE. Know what that means? This whole ferocity change is a fail.

The problem is that ANET has to figure out how to buff kits in PvE (where they are lacking) and nerf them in PvP (where anyone with 30 minutes of practice can dominate on a bunker spec).

You mesmers should be happy that you are the best 1v1 class in the game. Yes, ANET could buff certain things about the Mesmer, but it would also require a nerf to your 1v1 skills. Can’t be great at everything. To me, it balances right now. Best 1v1. Worst group support.

You are on SoS? Ask one of the EP guys for some other server contact names. Especially in this matchup, there are a lot of guilds on TC and FA who GvG.

If you want to do 10v10, especially look for the GF guys on TC. They are great at that.

I agree eles need buffs, but they also need the two changes above as well.

They are removing tornado+meteor shower, you can stop complaining about it now.

and that still doesn’t resolve the no circle issue. Anyway, this skill is fine in WvW and PvE, but needs a nerf in conquest. It takes zero still to sit far away and launch meteor shower against someone who is defending a point.

The ferocity decision is possibly the worst decision made by ANET to date. It is basically them saying that they added too much power creep to the game and now want to nerf it back to where it was. Bad idea.

You are trying to solve a PvE warrior zerker issue. No one ever says “Hey, I’m looking for 5 zerker mesmers to run COF”. Fix the warrior issue. Not the crit damage.

Agreed. I think that even bringing WvW into the PvP variant would be helpful since most of the balance is done around PvP in this game. The OP skills that kill players in PvP that had to be nerfed need to be treated very similarly in WvW.

That was a long OP for something they already do.

Where you are completely wrong is PvP vs WvW. In WvW, the current OP classes are guard, warrior, ele for group fights.

In PvP, the current OP classes are warrior, necro minions, and bunker engis.

The point is that specs that work in one do not necessarily work in the other.

The good news is we have something to look forward to at least.

These last few “balance” updates have completely missed the mark.

It’s ridiculous that Rangers are still the bottom of the barrel, that Guardians are still pigeon holed into 1 playstyle, that thieves still have perma stealth and very low Risk/Reward Ratios, that Ele’s still have issues since their initial big nerf last year… the list goes on and on.

I’m not sure how much more “Constructive Feedback” you want Anet… we’ve been giving it to you since Beta and you still haven’t gotten it right, in the eyes of the general population… er, I mean, your forum community, for which you continually ask for our feedback then tell us we’re the minority and our opinions don’t matter.

This really has the potential to be an amazing update. If people are mixed together randomly (think overflow concept) and the 3 sides are fighting each other while trying to be the one side to claim the LS objective, this has the chance to the best release in the history of the game.

Overall though, I think these types of events are a bad idea. @Josh, you mention seeing people cheer others on. Yes, that happens until the server starts failing. These types of events only work if people are on a similar skill level. This is never going to be the case. We’ve found that a ton of people still do not know how to dodge (i don’t get how it is possible to be killed on the platforms). One goes down, others try to res. They go down and then the platform fails.

It is just not a good experience. If you want to make it better for the community, allow people to jump between platforms as needed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stood around for 45 seconds waiting for others to try to complete their platforms. Let people help each other.

I think part of the problem is also people are able to guest onto a different server and piggyback on their server for these events instead of re-examine their strategies and builds. There is really no incentive to successfully completing these kind of events as a main server.

This ^^. Personally, I don’t think people should be able to guest to a map if there is a big LS event. Why should I get locked out of my home server map because of others guesting? If someone is guesting, they should automatically go to an overflow.

Go all offensive traits plus 10 points in shadow arts for skill 6. That blinds opponents every time you stealth. so for a PvE mob, it is CnD, backstab, auto attack chain, and then repeat. You won’t even take much damage.

I don’t think that is true. Done correctly, it will be a roamer heaven, and allow the regular WvW maps to continue to be zerg focused.

Sea of Sorrows has closed recruitment for NA and Oceanic, if you are a NA or oceanic guild please considor Tarnished Coast and Fort Aspenwood, both have great communities and both are extremely stable servers.

Yes, I’d recommend T3. SoS is all set right now. TC is off in PvE land, and FA is FA. Next week any server could win the matchup and so balance is in a good place.

One of the ways we plan to change matchmaking, not the MMR system, is to match on more than just MMR. E.g. ranks, ladder tier, etc..

This should improve the quality of matches and should also make MMR more accurate.

I’m not sure this is a good idea. After all, this is a ladder. Outside factors such as your overall PvP level should not be included. The ladder should be the only factor for matchmaking. I’ve seen plenty of rank 40 people who gained that through sPvP who are horrible in solo queue. Similarly, I’ve seen rank 10 people who are amazing. Again, the matches needs to be based on the ladder.

The changes that need to be made to matchmaking are to ensure games do not start with a 4v5. There also needs to be faster moves up and down the ladder.

Defense is already ridiculously easy in this game. A group of 5 defenders who know what they are doing can easily hold off a group of 25 for a long time.

The problem is that you want zerg AND havoc. There isn’t a best choice for both of those.

For zergs, you are not there for DPS. You are there to provide support, both boons and healing. You need to help disrupt your opponent. I personally prefer sentinel armor because as others have mentioned, there are no ascended trinket versions of that. You can get the heal power from trinkets and your weapon.

The problem is that bunker engi is probably the easiest class to play right now. A good engi can hold a point against a 2v1 indefinitely.

Time for a frank discussion, developers.

Warriors are broken, and have been for 5 months now. You refuse to acknowledge the issue except to say you want to buff HS before you nerf it.

Guardians have been in the meta since BETA, with no other profession as a viable alternative. APEX PREDATOR much?

Thieves have dominated the roamer role for about 8 months now, with no sign of any good buffs for elementalists and only nerfs for mesmers. Again APEX PREDATOR much?

Are you going to fix your PvP in the immediate future, or is GW2 simply another candidate for a post-mortem?

You lost all respect when you said mesmers only get nerfs. They are the best 1v1 class in the game.

Im predicting that there will either be

1.) A PvE EOTM instance and a WvW EOTM instance

or

2.) a PvE only EOTM instance for the next 2-4 weeks, and a WvW EOTM release later in March.

Either of these options will be very disappointing. I want to kill people doing a living story. and why not? It makes perfect sense in the context of the scarlett story.

I’m fine with giving mesmers better group support, but it needs to come at the expense of nerfing their 1v1 abilities.

it doesn’t require nerfing if done right.. as in going for a group oriented spec would automaticly nerf the 1v1 power by just traits themselves

Atm, like said probably at least 10 times in this thread, we are way too superior in roaming. You can almost faceroll any 1v1 and 1v3’s and pretty easy to do too. This only is caused by 1 trait, whereas we don’t really have much else to invest on because the rest is just getting nerfed.
The fact that people are using roaming builds in raids is already a sign there’s no teamplay build good enough to compete with the roaming build. Whereas roaming builds would be useless in raids, so are teambuilds too for mesmer.

If you wanna buff something, you gotta nerf the other. Warrior is a perfect example of where they didn’t do that, and let’s be honest, who isn’t qqing about warrior being a kittened class atm?

That’s not really what we want with mesmer, at least I don’t. Taking away some aspects of roaming for mesmer by slightly nerfing them, doens’t make us totally not viable in roaming. We wouldn’t probably be better than thieves, but hey, thieves are far from useful in raids nowadays.

Mesmer should be balanced on teamplay- and raoming gameplay Imo, and I’m sure also for arenanet seeing their first video’s about mesmer. Mesmer was supposed to be both: a supporter and illusionist plus a solo player. Atm we are only the solo part.

No other class can do that much raw damage with that much mobility and still bunker points 3v1 for large periods of time.

Some things that could be looked at to balance it.

1. Too much damage (I feel like this one is never brought up but the amount of raw damage an S/D thief can do is insane, and none of it is on a cooldown. Their burst and consistent damage are all the same thing, they are constantly doing both.)
2. Too much dodging
3. Lyssa runes

Bring up whatever else you think could be looked at balance wise for an S/D thief.

You are about 3 months too late with this post. Most people have moved onto S/P.
