“we have also decided to release updated rank point rewards early so players can start earning increased rewards at the time that glory is removed.”
Now as to what those will be… who knows…
I just hope they do not follow the WvW model. Hey look there is a rank 3600 player. Lame.
I hope ANET figures something out. A few options:
1. Allow these to be traded back in for gems.
2. Allow these boosters to be exchanged for other boosters
3. Allow boosters to be exchanged for gold
I hope ANET does the right thing here and takes care of people.
anet is too proud to give in.
I think they are worried. Let’s be honest, their 3 newest maps, spirit watch, skyhammer, and eotm in wvw are all focused around gimmcks vs good gameplay.
Infantry, I’ll tell you the same thing, put some thought into the posts otherwise it’s pointless to bother writing them. Every PvP map has a “gimmick”, just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it should be removed.
If you don’t realize that this map is over the top bad, then maybe YOU should think about why so many people dislike it.
+1.
Allie posted that the love/hate for skyhammer is 50/50. even if we believe this. which other map is hated by 50% of the community?
Lol. I seriously doubt anyone would think it was 50%. Unless, they count the ANET team as 1000 each. Then maybe it is a good split.
Yes, but not until the Points-per-tick system is revised.
This ^^
Yes. I’d like to see it all about achievements and individual playtime. Server ranking is pretty much predetermined.
A guild group should ALWAYS win fights as long as the enemy has less than twice as many.
EOTM is also very new. Give it more time before implementing stuff from there into actual WvW.
Agreed.
@Chris: I suggest picking a different topic for the next CDI. eotm is too new at this point.
How about rewards for the spring tourney as the topic? This way you can get actual feedback and then implement it vs some of the harder to do items.
1. Warrior
2. Necro
3. Mesmer
I definitely didn’t mention ele. So many threads about them lately and given the upcoming changes, it probably makes sense to wait a bit on them.
@ All, you ask what classes ANET plays. It probably would be more interesting to know what classes the BALANCE team plays.
@OP: Your post is wrong in so many ways.
1. Stealth is spammable? Maybe if you have an initiative pool of 50. Let me know how to get that.
2. Give S/P access to stealth? This spec doesn’t need anymore help. In fact, a lot of the top thieves are switching over to it. In another month or two, people are going to be saying how OP it is even with no changes.
3. If you can’t predict the location of a thief after a bp/hs combo, that’s more on you. You can see the way they jump.
Quick fix for solo q would be to cut down points granted from orb or make the orb to appear only like 4 times in 15 mins.
That’s another good idea as well. What if the orb only spawned twice a game, but was worth 50 points for a cap?
This are fake. Someone at ANET would be crazy to even consider it. As for thieves, if they added a new elite, it should be a signet.
That’s what I thought as well, but in all honesty, if the new trap launched the opponent a significant distance (900, more than guardian banish) and had AoE potential I could start to see it being relatively useful, especially if it had a ~60s CD that would be traited down to kitten with Quick Traps.
I still can’t see anyone ever use it except in one of two places:
— skyhammer
—trolling in eotm
In every other situation, one of the existing elites would be better.
I still think thieves need a signet elite.
There are no problems to solve. People are playing as they want. Let it go. If you enjoy beating on doors and are motivated by ppt, go to regular wvw. If you enjoy killing enemies go to Eotm. Simple. Please don’t invent problems that don’t exist.
You are my hero bro if you are getting EoTM instances about fights….I have joined that cesspool over 20 times and it was always a karma training pvdoorfest…
Assuming you don’t mean 50v50 fights…theres plenty of that zergy garbage I guess.
Yeah, he is just plain wrong (as with a lot of his posts). eotm is about PvE and zerging. It is not about fights.
It’s bad in team arena, can be effective in solo, though. For team, just run a “decap” thief instead. 4 stab war counters the build, just test it. Jin just go duel Wakkey, you won’t full cap before death and you need to full cap for it to be worth running the build otherwise you are a negative point investment.
So in other words, if a team has a warrior as good as wakkey, they can beat the decap engi? If not they will lose?
Wouldn’t you say he is one of the top 5 warriors in NA? If so, it doesn’t prove anything. For example, I saw an ele yesterday who absolutely dominated a top 1000 solo queue. Does that mean the ele is ok, or was it just a really good player?
I would actually like to see Stealth removed from abilities like Cloak and Dagger or Black Powder and instead moved to become a general class skill like Steal.
This would give every Thief build access to some form of Stealth.
However, unlike the current implementation using F2 Stealth would consume Initiative so that you can’t stealth indefinitely and stealth comes at the expense of your offensive abilities. You might need to reduce the cost of our weapon-skills slightly to accommodate this change but overall I think it would work better than what we currently have.
TL,DR:
- Make stealth a class skill like Steal and remove stealth components from Cloak and Dagger and Black Powder.
- Stealth now consumes 1 Initiative per second.
- Reduce cost of most weapon-skills.
- Utility stealth skills like Shadow Refuge can remain unaffected by this change.
This would make S/? way too powerful and kill the D/? and P/D builds.
@OP:
Think about what you post before posting. Those are horrible suggestions.
Stealth breaking on damage doesn’t make sense for the gameplay of GW2.
There are multiple channeled skills which make such a “solution” unwieldy. Even without channeled skill Stealths key thing is that target break straight out removes the target requiring or target dependant skills from hitting, more so than its invisibility. As well as often you can fire a skill immediately after someone stealths and it will fly to them as if you had the target. Include a rapid hit skill like shortbow 1 for more shenanigans.Breaking on CC is also well awkward given the application of many stuns requiring a target making most “tools” redundant to begin with.
Stealth is fine in gw2 on a base level. In the context of conquest it can’t contest the primary objective. That doesn’t actually make it bad in conquest but its limitation requires you expose yourself at some point since it will do nothing to the opposition if you don’t eventually do so.
Frequent application of stealth does feel a bit off given GW2’s “large” skillpool means you can have multiple stealth skills available to link together with Stealth only having an effective cooldown on offense. There was a period of time were they were going to put reveal regardless of whether you attacked or not. I thought this would have been interesting. However to really look at things S/D Isn’t a heavy stealth user in the slightest especially since 2012. P/D loves to stealth, but it lets players take the objective from him, even if they take significant damage to do so. D/D isn’t a real “bruiser” in melee even when it attempts to be, so if he tries to continually CnD or utility stealth on the point he’s still going to feel the limitations of his defense due to cleave and aoe. This game isn’t all that friendly to melee and while Warrior may of recieved many buffs to improve his ability to stay in that range, for everyone else, Melee can still be something you want to be in only momentarily which means for a D/D thief…revealing themself after a burst and then leaving, not that I’ve seen a D/D in awhile.
Finally their is D/P who uses stealth as a cover up for otherwise weak defenses that are all to obvious as soon as you look at P/P and see how much /P is subject to range assault otherwise with no inherit ability to target break. I wouldn’t mind changing this but it’s the love of most thieves since D/D was nerfed in ’12.
However really when it comes to stealth and Conquest it is strong but its limitations restrict it. For another game mode it might be more problematic but Anet would probably take the same standpoint with any game mode that most games and they themselves have taken before. “we balance for our main gametype, not sides”.
Not sure this is the in the right thread, but I want to comment on one position thieves take and that is “you cannot cap while stealth”. I think it is long understood that the thief profession doesn’t make for a great bunker (at this point), so their role on a team is not to hold a point, but to assault it. In those situations, stealth is very effective as a thief moves in and out of stealth, they easily force people off a point and can get a neut in short order.
Yeah, this needs to be moved to the stealth break thread.
I could see something like 1200 badges+3 laurels+10 Gold for Shoulders, Gloves, and boots. 1500 badges+4 laurels+15 golds for Helm and Pants. 1800 badges+5 Laurels+20 gold for Chest and Weapons.
I like this
Well Eotm is build for zerging, door hp alone is a good example for that.
This ^^.
Also, WvW is in trouble. Why? This forum has given a ton of good ideas. A main rep for ANET (not allie) came and said we do not represent what people want and so most of those ideas are disregarded.
A perfect example of the CDI that was done here recently on population balance. There were a ton of ideas given. ANET barely responded and when they did, it was to ask about changing the transfer rate based on WvW population. That was pretty much it.
ANET has a vision for WvW. Unfortunately, it will be a vision that only they end up playing. Hint ANET: PvE is not the solution.
The problem with ele is actually the player base. Let me explain. There are some fantastic eles out there. I’ve seen some in matches recently. In general though, these are few. Why? It is because other classes are easier to play.
So, the challenge… How to make the class more accessible to more people without making it completely OP to those who are already good eles.
Stop arguing for something that is obviously a bug.
I know a lot of people say that skyhammer isn’t a good competitive map, but spirit watch is just as bad. It is not balanced. Right now certain classes are way too good at running orbs.
So, two options:
1. Remove this from solo queue
2. Remove all skill usage from the person who is carrying the orb.
I personally like #2. Even though the map itself isn’t a lot of fun, at least this will force teams to defend the orb carrier.
@OP: Not deathmatch…. team deathmatch. That adds a lot of strategy
Countless is a tool. They deserve no respect. Sounds more like someone who is jealous of BLU tbh.
I think he does a fine job of shoutcasting. I really like the weekly 2v2 tournaments. The regular conquest tournaments are boring to watch, but no shout caster is going to make those fun. It’s just the game mode.
Rebalance aimed at high skill cap play.
If you want high skill cap play, they need to do the following:
1. Nerf all AOE damage (condi and direct)
2. Increase single target damage (condi and direct)
3. Reduce the effectiveness of passive buffs
Because it is already easy to have perma-swiftness as a guard.
As for the speed boost, all classes have access to the rune of speed or rune of the traveler. Use those if speed is that important.
This are fake. Someone at ANET would be crazy to even consider it. As for thieves, if they added a new elite, it should be a signet.
Because for zerg fights, you don’t really need any classes other than guards, warriors, and eles. An occasional mesmer for veils and necro for marks helps.
Rangers, thieves, and engis are not needed for zergs.
eotm is a great map if you love the zerg and if you love PvE and want to kill people while doing it. If you want to fight players, it isn’t as great.
seriously – you say wvw don´t get enough attentition and spvp too much?
even read patch notes?
arenanet devs don´t care for spvp while WvW get all the new shiny things
Wrong. PvP AND WvW are like forgotten step children. PvP received 3 new maps since launch and that’s about it. WvW received OS, eotm, and a rank system.
Compare either of those to the amount of PvE content. PvE is the love child.
uh….what? in pvp stealth is huge disadvantage as you can’t hold points while stealthed…
wvw forums this way ->
^^ This. Stealth isn’t a big deal in PvP because being in stealth is a disadvantage.
Hambow, shout guardians, spirit rangers, MM necro, and bunker/decap engi.
gg
@OP:
i don’t think eotm will be the end of WvW. It is new and so people are checking it out. I personally do not enjoy eotm as much as regular WvW for the following reasons:
1. eotm is a bunch of randoms. i like recognizing the names of the people i fight with.
2. eotm is a zerg fest. It is always big groups running around. If you like smaller scale fighting, this is not the place to be
3. Too much PvE. I want to fight people, not random buffs and PvE events.
No thank you. A lot of people enjoying fighting for their own server. Each server has its own personality in terms of how people treat each other, ppt vs fights, and overall seriousness. You lose that in eotm and it isn’t as fun.
@OP:
I personally have no problem with PvE. I just don’t think there should be PvE elements in WvW.
@OP: This seems like a bug. ALL aoe should have a circle. ANET, please add to the bug list.
Direct condi damage is fine. What needs to be nerfed is AOE condi damage. It is skill-less. Same goes with AOE power.
Just saw team with 2 eles win. Eles played correctly are quite strong. The problem is that I do not see all that many good ele players.
The challenge that ANET has is that if they buff too much, those good players will become insanely strong.
The idea of throwing everyone into 3 fractions is not a good longer term idea. I like the current server set up of WvW. That said, for the next league, I would like to see 24 balanced servers. Let people sign up for any server they want, but all have the same pop cap. That would be a lot more fun and balanced.
How did FA get weaker after the addition of SoR guilds? It makes no sense. They must have lost guilds at the same time.
They didn’t. They also got guilds from other servers. They did put up a pretty decent fight a few weeks back, but IMO that was their new transfers working hard to establish themselves.
I don’t think it was the new guilds. If you look at FA, they came out of the leagues really strong. They quickly established themselves as #5 and beat TC (#4) one week. Since that time, they’ve gotten much weaker.
Probably the best fight right now would be SoR, TC, and SoS. Unfortunately that will never happen and whoever gets stuck as #3 each will just get wrecked by JQ and BG.
The game cannot ever be balanced. Here is the reason why:
THE DIFFERENT GAME MODES FAVOR DIFFERENT SPECS
Think about it this way. They would need to balance separately between:
1. Open world PvE
2. Fractals – low level
3. Fractals – high level
4. sPvP
5. Solo Queue
6. tPvP
7. WvW – Roaming
8. WvW – Small roaming groups
9. WvW – Zergs
3. Condi dmg is negligible in larger scale organized combat where power based dmg shines.
Wrong. It is the exact opposite. Large groups are forced into specing for AOE condi cleanse. The power specs are much less of a threat with all of the protection, stability, dodges, and blasting water fields to heal back up quickly.
I’m fine with single target condi damage. I think that AOE condi damage is just skill-less play though. Same goes for regular AOE damage. It needs to be nerfed.
As far as condis go, there needs to be better defense against them. In particular, I think every class should have a way to spec into transferring condis back to the attacker. Think of it as retal for condi.
Thing is, in WvW, there is almost NO way to survive if two, good, zerker thieves (be them D/D or D/P) decide to gank you. No matter how hard you try, unless you are a thief yourself and you see it coming, or unless you are a PU mesmer or a super-tanky warrior/guardian, you will die. I roam with all the classes you see below, usually alone. And no matter how hard I try, if I’m fighting and 2 thieves join the fight, I die. Simple as that.
But I won’t complain. Not just because I play a thief myself, but mostly because I have accepted the fact that thieves are good at this. I mean, warriors are good at swinging their hammers, Eles are good at support, Necros are good at putting condi pressure… every class shines in a specific role, both in WvW and in sPvP. Thieves excel at killing weakened foes.
People must start to accept this fact.If you’re jumped by two equally skilled players regardless of the classes involved you should expect to wind up dead. If that wasn’t the case then whatever class you’re on that’s able to take that on is OP and in need of a nerf… or is a very… VERY hard counter (ex dia skin ele vs 2 dire).
This ^^. Someone should never live against a 2v1. The 1 will either die or run away.
@OP:
If there is an increase in revealed, then the thief needs a big increase in damage. Less stealth attacks mean they need to be stronger when they happen.
I love how people think Mesmers are godmode in 1v1.
Well, not bad mesmers, but anyone who is at least average is godmode.
I have to agree with a lot of the others here. If you haven’t learned how to play against shadow refuge by now, I don’t know what to say. It is the easiest utility to counter. Easy to knock people out of and if they thief leaves early, they lose stealth. Easy kill.
