Be careful what you wish for. I think we will get new game modes at some point, but that doesn’t mean it will be a game mode that we want to play.
Give me 5v5 team deathmatch and I’m happy. Custom arenas could change that number from 2 to 8.
Probably because the ‘Red’ servers are technically supposed to be the weaker of the three colours. This is also reflective of the Overlook keep in EB. Definitely the hardest of the three keeps to siege.
If that was the case, then why is green the easiest to defend?
This is definitely a bug. I believe it happens when you try to head to WP in bay or hills as well.
Hopefully it is fixed in the next patch.
@ANET:
Instead of all the different changes that you have discussed, just start with the OP spec for each profession. Tone those down, and then see how things start to play out. This constant random changing of skills is not productive.
—
Any of your other changes are pointless right now. The specs above need the focus.I don’t think their changes are random; they have concise goals to warrant their alterations, however what’s the point of your proposal? It sounds like the very stigma you ascribed for ANet; random changes.
Note that I didn’t say your suggestion is bad, only your post isn’t very constructive if you can’t convey reasoning.
Sigh. I’ll explain again. Each class currently has one spec that is over the top. It does not allow for build diversity. Go ahead and pick any top team out there and tell me which is running a spec not included in my list. Why? Those specs are over the top. Sure there will be a few exceptions, but not too many.
and not sure how you think toning down OP specs is random.
Edit: Actually nevermind. It seems you are running one of the specs that I criticized. That explains why you don’t like my list.

I like this question. As you said, our focus right now is to better integrate sPvP with the rest of the game. This will hopefully do one major thing: Bring more people into sPvP that are already playing Gw2. This will mean more competition, and better matchmaking. The new ladders (which I hope you’re giving feedback for in the CDI thread) should be a good way to gain prestige for being the best.
Apart from competition and prestige, what kind of things are most attractive to the high-level players? Personally I’m not hyper competitive and play all parts of the game, so the rewards overhaul will be amazing for me :P
Evan,
PvPers DON’T WANT more PvErs into PvP.
A good PvP game will attract PvPers, or rather people interested in playing the game in order to win, instead of bringing people who are there simply for the achievement points.
PvP right now needs a serious marketing push with rewards based on ladder position, weekly/monthly automated tournaments with real money involved ( even GEMS would be fine at start) and a huge, HUGE advertising in order to make people come back ( if there’s still a chance to do so).
I don’t want to sound rude, but PvE players majority of times are scrubs in PvP.
Same for WvW players.
We need PvPers, not scrubs.
You are completely wrong. We want as many new players in PvP as possible. You must play at the lower end of a queue, but if you were higher, you’d understand… the higher you get in the ladder, the better the quality of players. Who cares if more new players come in? They will be playing at the bottom of the ladder, and I’ll never see them. Should some of them get better, then I’ll have a chance to face them. More players is a good thing.
This comment is absolutely ignorant and proves that you play very little PvP if not at all.
Team q is the new solo q
Solo q is totally random, the system puts high ranked people with total noobs in order to even teams ( sad part this is a team game so a top 100 guy with 4 scrubs won’t be able to carry them all, and this happens TONS of times, one of the biggest reasons why people afk on their high positions).
I’ve been top 100 eu for months till people kept on playing, now you see always the same people in the queues and only quite late at night ( sizer, collero, skoa, lisey and very few other ones ) while the rest are totally random nabs that became even more nabs thanks to this skill-less meta.
Don’t say stuff you’ve no idea about.
I’m currently around 700-800, quite enjoying staff zerk ele, still i get matched with top 100 people.
here it is your " at the high end, matchmaking is better".
LEL
You are still wrong. Stop talking if you don’t understand what you are talking about. It makes you look silly. Solo queue is NOT completely random. You will play against people at a similar level. You will NOT play against some new random person who loses every match unless you lose every match yourself. A remember again is that your original point was that PvP doesn’t need new people coming into it. You are wrong. Just move along.
And just think before writing.
@OP: Ele is already good in WvW and PvE. In WvW it is one of the three most important classes actually.
It is in PvP where the class is weak.
It is not really a problem with the ele class. I’ve seen eles that are as good as any class. The problem is that the skill cap is so high. An average player using xxx class can beat an average ele.
Good point. I agree with what you say
Builds that need a nerf imo:
sPvP
1. Any build that promotes AI spam like Minion Masters and Spirit Rangers.
2. Decap Engi, because it’s a cheese build.
3. Bunker Guardians because Bunkers are lame and make the game less fun.
4. Minor tweaks to PU Mesmers, D/P Thieves and S/D Thieves.
5. Anything that applies conditions in an AoE should be looked at.
But really, all classes could use some nerfs in some areas.
WvW builds that need a nerf:
1. PU Mesmers
2. Condition spaming Engineers.
3. Warriors in general
4. Dhuumfire Necros
5. D/P Thieves (maybe not after Ferocity)
6. ….
I like this list. I wouldn’t list D/P or S/D thieves though in the PvP section. That’s old meta. The new meta is S/P which is way more difficult to fight against.
1) Is it too much complicated creating a system that balance the various professions in the teams of a battle? ( 3 thiefs, 4 mesmers, 4 warrrios…)
2) Why we have a ladder based on the single player when every match is played in team?
3) What is the sense of a soloQ ladder?
4) Why we have not a GvG system? Guild Wars of what?
5) Why we have to pray you for an update in pvp?(nerf or buff skill)
1. Agreed. This should be obvious to ANET
2. Good question
3. To me this ladder makes more sense than an individual team queue ranking
4. Agreed, but I’d prefer to see this in WvW where there are more weapon/trinket/rune/food options. More strategy is good.
5. good question
@ANET:
Instead of all the different changes that you have discussed, just start with the OP spec for each profession. Tone those down, and then see how things start to play out. This constant random changing of skills is not productive. Below is the list of specs to focus on:
Warrior: hambow
Engi: Decap
Ranger: Spirit
Necro: MM
Mesmer: PU
Thief: S/P
Guardian : Bunker
Ele: Give them one that someday we can add to this list
Any of your other changes are pointless right now. The specs above need the focus.
@OP:
I haven’t seen a thief run hide in shadows in quite some time at upper levels of solo queue. If you play at lower levels, that is fine, but just practice a bit. A thief who uses a lot of stealth in PvP isn’t that great. Stealth is a weakness here since you can’t take or hold points with it.
If this was a WvW conversation, it would be different.

@OP:
It really comes down to whether someone can win the 1v1 or not. If they are great at it, push far. If they are not, don’t.
Yes timing cc on this map is realy importan , thats why this map is made for esport , u need o lot of skill to play is good
and by skill, you mean run a troll spec.
Add this to the broken spec that every class has. All of these need to be adjusted.
hambow, spirit ranger, mm necro, decap engi,s/p thief, pu mesmer, and bunker guard.
The leaderboard definitely needs an overall. I’d like to see a new ranking system and then a wipe of the leaderboards.
OH look another attention seeking “I quit” thread. Trying to buy a couple of sympathy points?
To maximize the full effect of you quitting you should totally post this on the general forums and on reddit.
Actually, most of the people in the community playing competitively prefer to know when the top team for months quits.
As long as they actually quit, then yes. Otherwise, it is just a call for attention.
Elementalists are bad enough and terribad players still wants elementalists to be nerfed.
Whining is not the way to make a class better. Just an fyi. Propose the changes you think should be made.
I will add a fun fact: When rewards were updated in December, PvP saw a 40% growth in player numbers that has stayed solid ever since, the largest single jump in player participation in any game content type as a result of an update we’ve ever seen. This growth was almost entirely players who didn’t play PvP before, who suddenly became interested once it was rewarding, and I’d argue it’s not even that rewarding yet. To discount rewards as meaningless might be true to you as a player, but we consistently hear very different feedback from other players, and they make this very clear in their actions. We need to make sure players who truly care about prestige and being the best are catered to, and we need a way for players who aren’t that yet can become excited and invested and someday potentially become part of the first.
First, I do think rewards are important, but I wouldn’t say that was the main reason for the increase. In December, it was a perfect storm of :
1. a lackluster holiday update (the one from a year ago was much more exciting given the newness and the multi day event)
2. WvW burnout. This was as a result of the league ending and people taking a break. I’d bet that if you reported the WvW numbers between the december update and the eotm launch, those numbers would show a big drop off
3. People trying to use their glory boosters
That said, I do think that rewards need to be increased. I’m actually VERY worried about removing glory in another 2+ weeks. I don’t think that is a very good idea to remove glory prior to the new rewards being ready.
Everything about Warrior is pretty versatile. Unlike other classes, he doesn’t need to do something like take four traits just to make a weaponset useable. The natural tankiness of the class definitely helps with versatility too, though, since investing in defense becomes a little more of an option and not a necessity.
lol, every viable warrior build needs to have atleast 20 in defense trait combined with 30 in last line and a longbow equiped so you can actually profit from your 20 point in defense traits and not waste it. and have ptv. or you are not viable in high level tournament play. ofc bunker is the only exception because they use warhorn.
You assume a PvP game mode. 30 points in the last line is NOT an ideal WvW build.
Is this for WvW or for PvP. The answers are different depending on which gamemode.
The problem is this…
PvP: Condi damage OP
WvW: Condi damage OP
PvE: Condi damage way underpowered
I’m an ele. 2500 armour.
How can I get hit for 6k each time by a spammable attack.
My churning earth has a 3 1/2 sec cast time and does that damage to soft targets.
It involved absolutely no skill, no sort of setup and it has a gap closer attached. If youre fighting someone else (i was), thief jumps in, presses 2 twice and that much damage?
Attacks which involve no setup, no cooldown and no cast time shoudn’t hit for that much.
Pro-tip:
Dodge
To summarize this thread:
1. Pet is useless
2. Spirit melee builds are lame
3. Range skills need a big buff
Actually this is quite true. I’ve seen eles at upper levels who are insanely good.
How am I bored of this kitten. People are saying this after they get killed by perfecly landed fresh air combo after failing to kill ele for few seconds (mostly because of arcane shield). Well, I wont deny that it looks skilled (quite fast in execution compared to other classes), it may even take some skill (or time) to imprint that combo so you can do it fast and good, but what does it have aside from it? Nothing at all. It is just a one-trick nuclear pony that even works only because on untelegraphed nature of air and arcana.
Remember my words – if ele get more passive defence and thus more space for mistake (and, maybe, shorter cd’s) fresh air will be even dumber than current hambow.
This abomination have nothing to do with real ele issues, balancing class around it is like balancing engi around decap spec.
This is an insult to anyone who is is a good ele. You didn’t quote all of my message either. Stop using this thread to justify your own lack of skill. It is not a good idea to ask for a return to when the ele was completely OP.
What people want is a way to make the profession easier to play. That would make it more comparable to other classes. Right now, it is not comparable for the average player in PvP. It is fine in WvW and PvE.
FOTM is currently hambow, spirit ranger, and decap engi.
Enjoy
It’s always funny when people show up with messages like the OP. I think they work for ANET but are using a different account. Any regular person isn’t going to care about the forums. There is always going to be a mix or good, bad, and indifferent. Get used to it.
Engineer skill cap is high.
Mesmer is doable and can be played easily. It might get a little boring if you run blackwater build.
If you want the most action and challenge, it’s engineer for you. On top of very awesome skill animations and access to funny kits, it is also very hard to play.
this comment shows the difference between pvp and wvw for sure. In pvp, engi is considered the easiest class to play. In WvW, i would agree that it is one of the harder classes to play.
A comment on engi. I don’t think the problem is AR. The real issue is the number of their heals/water fields/blast finishers. The healing is what is OP.
@OP:
Elementalist needs help in PvP. It does NOT need help in WvW. It is already one of the 3 most important classes to groups, and has good roaming skills. If you are getting killed quickly, it is you.
We do not need a return to the days when ele was overly OP. That will just get it nerfed again.
(edited by style.6173)
No, nerf the condi damage first. It is out of control.
@OP:
I wouldn’t call something a healer. That will make it pretty much a non-starter with ANET
Kazo is all TC natives, just reorganized under a new guild tag >_>
Correct. KAZO is mostly CERN running in the EU timezone.
Nerf pistolwhip ANET! You said you don’t want stunspamm in this game? Well there you go, spamming 3 for win, while having an OP port which goes horizontal and vertikal, which makes it impossible to escape AND having an immobilize on it??
PW build uses #3 the whole time, to evade and do dmg, maybe one or two spammed dazes as well, but that’s it and everybody rerolls it now, even bad thieves do a lot of serious damage with it. Even if you breakstun and you go out of range the pistolwhip still hits you for at least 5k?!Sword/pistol was already nerfed beyond recognition it is not even viable anymore. The stun is now only a quarter of a second, the cast time takes forever, and it does 25% less damage than before and uses more initiative. They don’t need to nerf it anymore.
I’m guessing you haven’t played in a year. What you said was certainly true early 2013, but isn’t true now
so? Not sure your point. All I said is that people who play eles write a lot of threads. That is true.
All they need to do is make it impossible to solo join team queue. I don’t understand why they even have solo queue if you can solo join team queue for double the rewards and even get the same as a win if you lose.
Good point, although I still think solo queue and team queue should have the same rewards. Actually, it is easier to win in team queue. Get a few of your friends together, and you’ll pretty easily beat any of the PUG teams.
In solo queue, winning comes down to being lucky and/or playing an OP spec.
At this point, I’m sure a lot of people play multiple classes.
The problem with Ele is that it’s balanced around peak performance, not average performance, and the difference between how the class performs at low vs high skill levels is really large.
IMO the base performance of the class as a whole needs to be raised and the ceiling brought down if needed.
Put another way, the gradient of the performance to skill curve needs to be flattened towards the skill axis slightly.
Actually this is quite true. I’ve seen eles at upper levels who are insanely good. The problem is that the skill curve to get there is probably the highest in the game, and most people who play ele will never get there. Definitely need a way to make the average players better without making the already good players OP.
People who play ele sure do write a lot of threads.
So, we were asked about choke points.
My take on choke points is twofold. First, they are strategic. Second, they do not make for fun gameplay. In other words, I think some are a good idea, but not too many.
I’m definitely glad to hear Devon talk about choke points instead of bridges though. The bridges are one of my least favorite part of eotm. Good for trolling? Yes. Good for fun fights? No.
eotm is for karma training, not for roamers.
in 2 or 3 years, here is what will happen. People will come on the forums and say:
1. They love/hate zergs
2. Server xxxx buys guilds
3. Nightcapping blah blah
4. Melee train makes me cry
5. People will still be asking for a new WvW map (not the karma train eotm)
Don’t underestimate BG. They have a large PvE population and when the LS ends in March, I think you’ll see them back.
I think you will see JQ, BG, and TC for a long time. SoS will fall a bit when people start getting bored dominating T2. Just my prediction. Who knows.
@OP:
What you do not understand is that part of the frustration is ANET’s own fault. The problem in general is their balance methodology. Their approach is as follows:
1. They see something in the meta that they want to change.
2. They make the change but end up over nerfing or over buffing something.
So, what is the logical next step? In the ANET world, it is not to fix #2. Instead they:
3. Change a whole series of other skills in order to compensate for the mistake in #2.
The issue is that balance will never be achieved with this methodology. Players start screaming on the forums for a fix to #2, but ANET doesn’t listen.
In other words, the criticisms are valid.
@OP: You don’t say which part of PvP you are struggling.
Hot join: If you struggle here, it is you
solo queue: bunker eles or gc eles do pretty well. Just don’t plan to run around solo
team queue: find a different class
What’s the point of these bags?
I just spent 20g on mats only to find out that I can’t get the final back piece item because I haven’t farmed PvE like the rest of ANet’s favorite lemmings.
Why the kitten are you giving us meaningless stuff we can’t use?
I want my 20g worth of mats back.
Everyone knows you can’t get ascended gear without doing PvE. Why is this a surprise to you?
Protip: Follow the dulfy guide in the future. It walks you through everything you need ahead of time.
eotm is not about defense. it is about having a karma train.
@OP:
Protip: dodge. I rarely ever die to a hammer train.
